Yea sure, they totally know how much fun mining on goon is, just like how much they play on the server.

I make more money by fucking off into space to get gold bars from the random spawn lootboxes. If they port the mining magnet then the first thing the miners will do is fuck off into space, just like all my coworkers did when I played on goon, before I realized that it is 1000000000 times more productive and fun than sitting at the magnet for jack shit.

Also the material system on goon is shit as well. Its a half finished piece of shit that hasn't been touched in decades that barely works. Just a brain child of a coder that got abandoned.
Just like how the rest of goon code is.

I was mining on Goon since before they even had ore, and I can say flat-out, without a shadow of a doubt, bringing the mining work back to the station itself was the single worst decision they ever made from a "is it fun" standpoint. Instead of having a job you and a handful of other folks could enjoy with relatively little interruption save the many, many, many environmental hazards and the occasional antag murdering you where you'd never be found, it was always fun. I loved nothing more than getting a mining pod out to tool around the asteroid field. It was never NOT exciting, because you had to be careful not to trigger the explosive bits. You could still contribute to the station because you could teleport crates back without even having to leave the roid. I got anxious whenever I saw anyone who WASN'T a miner, because they were almost always a ling.

So when they made it so you started out on the station, and got rid of the mining station, it was a kick in the teeth. It felt like there was no reason to even do the job anymore. I could be any other job I wanted to and still go out into space. The mining was just another station job. There was no adventure left.

That's the point of it. It's the adventure job. Don't take the adventure out of it.

You need to use special goggles that reveal 2 tiles away from open turf ores that can be found.
Speed up the pick ax to compensate.
Increase asteroid size, but also increase the amount of natural caves.

See look. I just fixed mining.
You can mine faster by using the more abundant caves to reveal more ore. But doing so puts you at risk of getting your ass tore by aliens.
Now mining is an adventure and not a chore. The mining magnet would make it the worst fucking chore ever.
