3.) What if it was like it is now but instead of a pet, you have a special ability aspected to each primal that you can use every 15/30/45/60 seconds, based on the power of the ability? You could summon Ifrit for a huge Hellfire AOE blast on a 60 second cooldown or summon Garuda to rain razor plumes down on an enemy and give you an extra dot, etc. Something explosive, cool, but not always out?

Is it normal that I haven't received more than about 13k experience from anything besides the MSQ since level 17?
exp rates have literally flatlined while I continue to need way, way more.

XP of pre-50 main quest was buffed significantly after HW so that people don't need to spend as much time doing sidequests/dungeons to get to HW. between the dungeons you need to run for main quest, roulette, and main quest XP, you should be fine without needing to do much else and can just cruise along.

Summoners in most Final Fantasy games for example, not X is literally just a thematically-different Black Mage. Or sometimes their summons do support things.

But outside of characters who were hybrids outright (Rydia), being a summoner in an ordinary final fantasy game is literally

There are 2 types of summoners in the game.
The groups of people that summon primals (the actual representation of eidolons)
The representation of the classic FF job Summoner, which uses an essence of a primal called Egi.
They're still Summoners whether you like it or not since they do control/call forth an eidolon's essence.

So I played 14 for the trial period about around when realm reborn came out.
Hit level cap in summoner and also got miner and fisher to max as well. Don't even really remember why I left. Maybe it was because summoner did bad dps at the time. I liked that one "raid" at the end of the main questline with the ultima weapon.
Thinking of buying a new account and ditching my old miqo'te for new Au Ra hotness.
Any advice in starting the game fresh?

It can be rough. I learned to deal with the animations, the biggest issue is everything fucking clips unless you use short hair (which is fine with me because short hair is unf), not to mention textures getting stretched and whatnot. I usually just use full sets or flirty shit depending on my mood. It would be easier on a smaller race definitely, but I still love her, though.

1.) Why the fuck would you start over? If you're unsure about stuff that happened in the game just use the Unending Journey book in an Inn to review cutscenes.
2.) SMN is good now. There's lots of Trials like Ultima Weapon and you even have chances to go back and see Ultima Weapon via Wondrous Tails since it asks people to go back and do older content for various rewards.
3.) Miqo'te and Au Ra are overdone, but honestly whatever makes you happy.
4.) Why the fuck would you buy a new account and start over? Honestly. Asking twice. You can level every job on one character and you get an EXP bonus for any secondary jobs below the level of your highest job. That bonus is doubled for 1-50.

Game's a lot easier to level in now on account of HW's release making ARR content give more exp, and also the Palace of the Dead which a little dungeon crawl thing that becomes available after you do Tam Tara Deepcroft normal that helps break up any monotony you might be experiencing.

Summoner at 60 is a lot more powerful than Summoner at 50 if that helps, they added the ability to let Bahamut inside you and explode the living shit out of everything.

Fair warning the trip from ARR to HW is a bit of a morale sapper with some of the earlier inane shit the game gets you to do.
