Okay guys, explain something to me because I've played Civ 4 and 5 but not at a high level, so I was never very good at specializing my cities as great people farms, science farms, trade hubs or what have you.

On Civ 6, is it a good strategy for every single one of your cities to have every single district type? Or is this a terrible idea? And which districts should you prioritize?

For example: I'm in a Sumeria game. I settled 3 cities, and they're all close to mountains - so it would make sense to get Campuses on all of them right? But what about encampments, holy sites, entertainment districts, etc? Which are most important, which should I build first or ignore, etc?

I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff you can be building at anyone time, and I quickly lose grasp of what should be my priority or how I should be specializing my cities. Earlier than that, I even have trouble deciding whether I want a builder, a monument, a granary, or what first.

Pls advice

>On Civ 6, is it a good strategy for every single one of your cities to have every single district type?

Terrible idea unless you're going "Civ6-tall" and only have 4 or so cities.

Campuses are always generally useful because science is always good. I tend to only build one (Maybe two) encampments in high production cities so I can shit out units with a single strategic resource because they're so rare now. Holy sites I have no idea on since I've been ignoring religion, entertainment districts seem like mostly useless garbage but maybe they have more utility for larger empires with fewer luxuries.

As for when you build shit that varies from game to game. Since you get campuses fairly quickly they tend to be my first district, but after that it depends on what kind of game I'm playing. If I'm leaning heavily on war I usually won't even build an encampment any time soon since I'll be prioritizing cranking out more immediate units. Follow your heart, anon.

Okay. Thank you for answering

I'll ask one more thing:

How do you know when you've over committed to a war?
I got into a war with a neighbor near the end of my ancient age and it only ended after I began medieval age. The incurring war weariness penalty, I feel, probably fucked me over big time. I took their capital though, along with the pyramids.

Should I try to fight Blitz-like wars when I'm planning on conquering someone's capital, instead of something that drawn out? Or should I try to fight small wars to poke at their military power and then gradually escalate to the big one in a couple of centuries?

I have no idea how you madmen get away with declaring war and conquering cities in Ancient era. How do you even find the time as you're settling and doing stuff of your own?
>>
When you take over someones capital and they funded a religion, and you have none...can't you just take their religion?

>>

>>
>>158324126

>>158323192
I lived in a house with a bunch of dudes in college and we had a civ 5 lan party once. Turns out that combat came down to who was the quickest clicker, but got really fucking awkward because the unit cycling never let you use the units you wanted to use first. Needless to say we never tried it again.

>>

They don't focus on other things.

The idea is you invest in massacring someone off the map so you have extra room to make up the deficit in your empire later. Early wars are investments in future prosperity.

Knowing when you're over committed to a war is another general thing. War weariness can fuck you up (Especially if it makes your cities so pissed they start rebelling) but it might be worth it if you're gaining ground/cities on your opponent. Taking a capital with a wonder is a pretty good prize and is generally worth it, and is absolutely worth it if you're going for domination.

Going to war when you've got a plan and an army all lined up for a fast push is the ideal way to war in civ6. War weariness isn't gained strictly by being in war itself, it's gained by fighting battles, and is increased by fighting battles in enemy territory and increased even more by losing units. It reduces even during war if no battles are happening, it just reduces slower than if you're at peace. Small wars to poke military power is basically never worth it, especially if you're playing on anything above prince since the AI will be getting cheat-bonuses anyway.

Conquering stuff in the ancient era is mostly a conscious decision as opposed to expanding hard on your own. Instead of building a settler and shit you build a strong early military and take a pre-made city or two with some buildings already made. Some civs are obviously way better at doing that than others (Aztecs, Sumeria, etc) but even the other civs can pull it off if it's part of your plan. Otherwise you'll just want enough of a standing military to protect your own shit and guard settlers as you're expending.

Hope this helps.

so theoretically you can get 126 extra production in a single city as a normal civ or 144 extra production in a city as japan from 6 tile bonus production off of factories+power plants (18 cities, not including the centre); assuming you're going for maximum bonus to a single city instead of maximum total bonus anyway

you get 1 city at the centre; 6 surrounding it; and another 12 surrounding them before the boost stops being in range
the 6 furthest cities are kinda fucked though; they only get 2 boosts when they're being build (so 14/16 production; bit shit)

I just don't know anymore. It's rustling my jimmies hard that I have to wait this long to get into a game and that I can't even alt tab. It has stalled on me a few times, too, and just stayed loading forever.

ALRIGHT BOYOS

Give me your try-harding early game build orders please.
You can specify if it's for strong eco start, for going wide early, or for going conquering early.

Admittedly I'm a King-difficulty baddie, but this is what I've been using so far:

>Scout (use warrior and starting scout to look for goodie huts and city states like a madman, but sent warrior home relatively early for defense - maybe I get lucky with an extra scout or something like that)
>Slinger (or War Cart if I'm Sumeria)
>Settler
>Builder
>Monument
>>
>>158329147

>>
>>158329026
Aztecs are the single best civ, followed by Scythia, then China, Greece (both) and Sumeria
All the others are irrelevant
>>
>>158328702

Russia is shit, tundra start means there's likely to be a whole lot of uninhabitable tundra/snow right by your capital which is a fantastic fog covered barbarian spawning ground. Extra tiles don't help with that much unless you have a coast right by. In a game that feels like constant raging barbs on, that's a dealbreaker.

On the top of that, trade bonus is iffy.

I won some money on fantasy football this week and am debating buying Civ VI.

Do the AI ever get...smarter?

I'm admittedly playing on low difficulties (Prince atm) but the AI is a fucking joke. Once you build a few archers and whittle down their army, they cant do shit. They dont fight defensively, they dont commit to (counter)attacks, they dont hold high ground...I often will defeat a civilization without losing a single unit.

Still learning it myself, but I can share a few tips from what I've picked up so far.

-Multiple designs for each type of ship are almost a requirement now; I like having three, but you can probably get away with only having two different builds of each ship.
-Missiles and Torpedoes have been heavily nerfed. Torpedoes now require their own slot, have had their range cut almost in half, and enemies- even AI enemies- have point defense far more regularly than before.
-different types of ships behave differently. Corvettes charge in as usual, destroyers hang back as far as they can, Cruisers also charge in but more slowly, ect. Keep that in consideration when building.
-Strike Craft are still very effective, as their range doesn't seem to have been nerfed like it was for missiles and torps.

Can someone explain why decimals in Civ VI?

You have .5 bonuses for districts, you have .x for gold income, you have .5 for movement. Why? What can you do with 0.5 movement? It's not even enough to pillage. And why do you have fractional Gold Per Turn and Faith Per Turn instead of just rounding up? What purpose does it serve?

I don't get it. It takes 4 turns to pop out a worker on Quick, then you only get three charges to chop down forests which might be dozens of tiles away. How is that efficient?

I preferred vanilla Civ V to IVBTS because I really, really hated stacks of doom. It was annoying as hell to see that the AI had built a stack of more than 20 units, while I only had a stack of like 8, yet they were getting knocked off one by one because I was so far ahead.

Quick question for CivVI
Do aqueducts make up for lack of fresh water? Or does it add more water to however much the tile already had?
Like, if I had a +3 tile and built an aqueduct, would it add more to +5 housing? Or would it not change since I already have access to fresh water?
And on the flipside, if I have a +0 tile, it would change to +2 right?

Stellaris is shit lads.

It lacks the roleplaying fun of games like CK, it lacks the explosive, action packed matches of HoI, it literally has less inter-factional diplomatic options than fucking civ.

The only thing it really has going for it is randomly generated factions and customization, but even then there never really seems to be that much variety in how AI factions behave save for the odd pacifist faction here and there. Winning or losing just boils down to who has the bigger/more advanced fleet every single time.

Having so much variety in government ethics and species traits doesn't mean jack shit when the game forces everyone to reach for the same goal anyway.

I figured this was the case but I was hoping it was less-shit after 3 big patches and a DLC. Thus far CK2 is the only Paradox game to really click with me due to the roleplaying like you said. Just map painting in CK2 is pretty goddamn easy, but building and collapsing empires based on how your characters end up is surprisingly enjoyable. Just a shame there aren't any particularly good horrible fetishy rapey mods for it.

EU4 seems like not-shit Stellaris. It's still 99% map painting but even so there's more interesting shit going on, better diplomacy, and amazingly enough even more unique flavor with events and such. Getting an event to build Versailles is cooler than almost everything in Stellaris. Makes me sad.

second is up for grabs, but might have to do with corporations from civ 4. or random events. or naval warfare. I can bet they will put in some more upgrades in those expansions though, like civ 5, which put in things like longswordsmen/composite bowmen.

They get shafted hard on housing unless the first things you build are a granary and an aquaduct. Good luck with an aquaduct though you need a mountain, river, or oasis within two squares of your center.
>>
>>158347696

You need land to build districts, and the only ocean district is a harbor (which is ironically the worst district). Coastal resources offer ZERO production, meaning for every piece of water you're fucked more in the long run.

Also, you can increase the percentage of their resource production that goes to you and not their sector; the default is 50%, but you can increase it to 75%. Just make sure that isn't putting your sector in the red.

Yeah, that much I know. I think the issue is, like I said, the sector was devoting so many tiles to Research that it couldn't support itself OR my empire.

Basically, the AI is set to consider Score first when it comes to Domination victory. Not number of cities or conquered capitals, but military score. And the way it's programmed, it sees that Ancient-era units are the cheapest to maintain and can spam them to get a high score. It doesn't matter that they're ineffective; it's the number of units, not their strength, that matters.

What is the secret of getting the AI to accept a delegation?

Presumably it's because civ6 is pulling in new people, and since it doesn't have Denuvo animeposters are actually capable of playing it. Give it time. Eventually it'll be nothing but game discussion again until something causes the autism at /gsg/ to flare up.
>>
>>158352538
send it on the turn you meet them / have them like you a lot for whatever reason / luck

if they dislike you at all they won't accept it ever so it's a preemptive diplomatic thing

Petra is complete. I think it's a pretty nice city now. Seems much more productive than my 2nd city.

So glad I didn't buy this new garbage.

Help me decide, go back to II or IV?

WARNING
WARNING

The city governor AI is retarded.

Despite having an Orange tile with 3 food and 1 hammer, it wants to work a 1 food 3 hammer or 2 food 1 hammer tile by default when the city is just starting up.

Also holy shit the AI is retarded. Literally find other civs as fast as you can and park a scout outside for when they pop out a worker or a settler, and steal it for free.
>>
>>158352645
Yeah but you can't exploit desert with farms and shit like in civ V so it's still kinda shit

>>
>>158352672
Someone did some calculations

due to how ameneties or w/e cause bonus production on your resources, more often than not production is valued more than food because food doesn't get bonus production and hammers do. If you set it to equal food/hammers you have to go lock tiles anyway due to this

>>
Alright, can someone explain how citizens in districts work? I'd assume it's like specialists in 5 but I'm not seeing any way to assign them.
>>
>>158352645
Petra is only good if you have a desert. Otherwise it's no good.
>>
>>158352850
it's specialists
buildings let you add more specialists to a district, you can't add any at first I think
clicking once adds one. clicking again adds more. once the district is at cap, clicking will return it to zero
>>
>>158352707
Look at all that production tho.

Almost as good as my capital but I kinda got a shitty production start because I'm in flatland grasslands.

I'm happy with my little desert civ. Maybe I'll expand further north to get dat dead sea wonder.
>>
>>158352135

After several games of giving us generic boring Pocahontas-land, the Shoshone were refreshing and original and I doubt they will ever appear again because it actually took research to get them in over "hey guys what if all the Native American tribes were a hypothetical civ ran by Sitting Bull/A fictional character!?"
>>
>>158352584
I suppose it's a way to keep her ability relevant.

Anything not Tank was always Light Cavalry.

I'm surprised Helicopters count though.

>either have one native american tribe led by sitting bull
>or a hundred of them taking up slots with only 1-2 of them being unique or fun

i like the shoshone and want them to return but i don't think firaxis wants to single out a tribe and stick with them as opposed to littering the game with 5 of the fuckers

Can you control what tiles are being worked? Yeah. It's a little awkward but you can.
>>
>>158352752
>>158353371
yeah you can

because there's no more "not working citizens" though you have to purposefully lock citizens

I took feed the world, now I'm debating whether I should take Gurdwara or Meeting House. Food, faith, production. Or just max food and faith. Help me decide.

Some anon in one of these threads said he managed to get a great admiral to sail onto the land using some escort glitch. Given how buggy this game is, you should be able to spend a turn making a tireme there and reproduce it somehow.

>>158353582
I've always found that my cities spend a whole lot of time housing capped, so more food isn't as useful as it could be.

Have you guys noticed that the female leaders seem to glance a your crotch a fair bit? I've met cleopatra and Victoria so far, and they both did this in the opening animation

generally the game announces that you are nearing your housing limit when it only has 1 house left, so gives you time to open up
