So, did we even get a single fucking official word from the lead designers, Civ's PR team or Firaxis on the state of the game, or is all the "game journalism" shilling hiding to them the fact their game is broken to shit ?

I heard Pete Murray took an unexpected vacation too, coincidentally for just after the game's release

they should drop the hidden agenda bullshit. The open agendas are bad enough and they trigger practically immediately after you meet a civ.

For example Cleopatra will always be #triggered because a human player will never have bigger army score than AI unless you buy unnecessary units like an idiot

They should either patch the agendas so they are ONLY positive ones ("likes you if X", without "dislikes you if Y" part) or that you seriously need to fuck up to trigger the diplomatic penalty.

Can someone tell me how to properly progress? I always tend to make too much or too little troops.
In my previous game I was immediately beset by a horde of barbarians so I had too spend many turns producing troops to hold them at bay and eventually destroy them. By that time I was too far behind.

In other events I had a peaceful start and a civ will always declare war at you at one point in the game. I feel like I am missing the balance between progress and protection.

They are one of the non standard factions, yeah. Basically all EL factions are unique, but for some it's bonuses on top of standard gameplay, for others it's a radical alteration there of. Forgotten are among the later category, it's not black and white, but generally you should avoid cult and BL too. If you are newcomer to the game two factions you should start with are vaulters or wild walkers, former is more geared towards tall, later towards wide. Once you've gotten a good grasp on basics you can pick any faction and it will be less overwhelming. Thing is - EL mechanics are intuitive, but they are many, and they interlock, so when dealing with something like forgotten, you have to use most of the games systems for complete expirience, meanwhile in WW/Vaulter game you can avoid ever opening espionage tab and lose almost nothing by it.

So in Civ 5 I could turn out units in my big production cities pretty quickly, but from what I am reading that's not really possible in 6? I honestly didn't wage war in 6 until the medieval period due to lack of units, and only because I could buy them with faith. Seems like the lack of war mongering in the early eras is completely wasted.

Also district cost scales with the amount of cities you have? Sheiiiiiiiiiit

>>
>>158300646

use chopchop if you want to war in ancient era

after that its better to settle down and build up your empire than try to conquer
>>
Tall or Wide? Why?
I've read that wide is worse since the disctrict production cost increases dramatically the more you build in your empire, but I've also had people say Wide is the only way to go.
>>
>>158301069

Create cheap production unit with Agoge, sell unit for 50 % of cash value (which is a fuckload as you may have noticed), use money to buy buildings, Traders

The second part of the glitch is that used Builders still sell for full. So you use all but one charge of your Builder and then immediately sell the fucker. Basically you pay half a builder's normal cost for 2/3rd at the start, up to 5/6th with Pyramids and Serfdom

Finally, this works outside your borders, so if a unit is about to be killed you literally just sell it. This also works if the unit has spent all its movement points for the turn, since delete is a free action
>>
Is there a place to check my current warmonger status?
>>
>>158301267

unlike civ 5 there's no arbitrary number to follow for what can be considered "tall" or "wide" (in civ 5 tradition vs liberty policies and global happiness dictated expansion)

just fill out the space you have available between 4-8 cities. Beyond that districts get too expensive.

Personally I prefer Tall super cities since I get to chop more trees per city and getting lots of districts > cities imo
>>
Anyone got the combat formula yet? I can't wrap my head around it. 5 damage seems bonus seems like a shitload but it seems kinda underwhelming too depending on the era.

Do the tutorial.
Then start a game in the earliest possible age, with 0 empires and 0 pirates. You'll get to discover stuff very slowly instead of being overwhelmed.
>>
Endless space 2 early access worth the 30 bucks? Or should i just spend it on Endless Legend
>>
So is settling your cities 6 tiles apart from each other the best thing you can do?
Is there any downside to just plopping down as many cities as you want?
>>
Some things that need fixing.

Barbarian scouts should be able to steal your workers, settlers and pillage your improvements and trade routes (they do that sometimes, but only by coincidence)
When fortifying or healing, that action should occur at the end of the turn (so if you change your mind you can give your units different orders).
Skipping away from the screen without being prompted to, particularly after putting an unit to sleep or whatever and jumping to the next unit without orders.

Also, is there any way to take screens from the game? Because I always get a black screen with PRT.
>>
>>158301606
>doesn't have a single archer on the border of his nation

>>
>>158301626

Each district made GLOBALLY

There's no winning it, although settling early makes all the difference in the world

Another theory is that it scales on Civics researched. Needs some testing, clearly. Can you play Solo if you disable all victories but Time ?
>>
>>158301530
i dont even understand how they could overlook this when it was impossible to sell units outside of your borders in 5.

Also you can literally soft lock your game if you have an apostle near an enemy city and he has a carpet of military around it. If he happens to create a unit and it spawns on your apostle (because there is no other place for it) you cannot end your turn since the game wants you to move but every direction is blocked by military and you cant sell apostles so you cannot press the end turn button.
>>
>>158301532
>>158301626
I just googled and found a reddit post that says it scales with tech/civic advancement rather than with each district.
Also it costs 25% less if you have less of that district than the average player.
>>

>>158301557
Oh yeah, I forgot about this.
TURN OFF AUTOMATONS.

You think it's helping by taking some tedious stuff away from you, TURN IT ALL OFF until you understand precisely what they do.
Otherwise, you'll end up with your ships moving around without getting orders and it'll be annoying as fuck.

Other than that, what I said in >>158301651, starts in the earlier age, with some neutral planets, but no empire and no pirates. In Distant Worlds, you have a shitload of ressources to take in consideration, and a quick start can have you neglecting important ressources, so start slowly. AND DO THE TUTORIAL.
>>
>>158301870
You should have a minimum of one ranged unit at the borders of your empire AT ANY COST. The gain you get from having it on the front cannot even compare to the gain you get from preventing a district(s) from being plundered and having to repair it later
>>
>>158301286
>>Create cheap production unit with Agoge, sell unit for 50 % of cash value (which is a fuckload as you may have noticed)

I'd honestly wait for patches (LOL) or expansion/DLC.

The game has:
- Horrible balance issues
- The worst AI in Civ history
- A really cumbersome UI thats hard to visually understand
- Boring as hell midgame made worse by having to manually deal with traders and spies.
>>
>>158302068
Play wild walkers first they are the most vanilla.

Read all the techs and what they do but realize you can't and won't need to get all of them. Get the stuff you want and experiment but get at least one armor or weapon upgrade tech per age.
>>
>>158302192

good core but a lot of stuff was obviously not tested thoroughly, left unpolished, rushed out the door etc. Tree chopping is broken, tech and civics trees need a lot of work and Religious victory is extremely 1 dimensional and fundamentally impossible to achieve in a MP game.

Much better than CiV was at launch. Once the launch issues are fixed it will probably be slightly worse than CiV was when Gods & Kings was released. Much of the stuff that was introduced in the expansion packs is there (spies, trade, religion) but either a very barebones level. As far as the game goes its quite fun up to the modern era/atomic era (eureka moments make the game more active and discourage min/max strats) but then it becomes a slog. Brave New World style improvements are very much needed for the mid/late game.
>>
>>158302120
I launched Distant Worlds twice. For a total of 17 hours. I'm scared of launching it now because of that, because I usually play 30-50 minutes at best.

The reward is... Well, I'd say it's great. The automatons are a pain in the ass, because I came out of Star Ruler and its "lol units will break formations to refuel", so when my ships started making fleets by themselves, I was very annoyed and considered a refund.
Then I turned off automatons, and it became really fun, if really slow.
I started on a normal system, built a space port, build a scout, a construction ship, looked at my empire to see what ressources I needed, and built a gas mining station to get Cesium (fuel). Then I found a warp drive, and I finally became able to explore outside of my solar system.

The game is pretty forgiving (ships that run out of fuel don't die like in Star Ruler), and the economy works like in Total War : there's a private sector with insane revenue, and you can grab up to 50% of it, but it'll cripple your economy, so it's better to have low taxes for better growth.
But what I like with Distant Worlds is that your decision will influence your empire economy. For example, if you build a space ports, private contractors will use it to build private freighters and move goods and people from one planet to another. And YOU get paid, since the space port belongs to you, so YOU get paid by your citizens to build them stuff.
And you can build some really fun stuff : a science station near a black hole, mining stations...

I remember that last time I played the game, I built a resort station near a supernova, for sceneries bonuses. I made so much dosh I cut all taxes down to 0%.
And if you don't like playing a nice empire, you can play as fucking space pirates, and they play very differently.

I'm going to stop talking about it now, because otherwise I'll launch it again and wake up in 6 hours, dehydrated and hungry.

diplo victory was literally just throw money at city states and the UN was silly

it was probably just being reworked but they didn't have a finished model for it before release so its been bookmarked for DLC I'd guess

Religious victory needs a rework, it's literally just shitting out apostles from the moment you get them until you win and it has literally no answer for someone declaring war on you besides going and conquering them, at which point you're just doing domination and not religion

Individualist, materialist, (any other ethos but I prefer xenophile for more happiness or militarist for better warfare). Direct democracy, make sure you get the communal and conformist trait.

Direct democracy gives a permanent happiness modifier (doubled after you rea search advanced government forms), communal gives a permanent happiness modifier, conformist helps with ethics divergence. Democracy gives you a couple free leaders every election. Society research gives you shit to increase habitability and happiness with xenophile exclusive buildings. Paradise dome gives a planet wide happiness and habitability boost and produces food.

I recommend liberating planets and making them your vassel as opposed to directly taking them because the ethics divergence might fuck you.

Fanatic spiritualist and divine mandate is also OP with a -50% ethics divergence modifier if you're just a warmonger

I always get enthusiastic with games I like. Seven Kingdoms 2, Distant Worlds...

To my great shame, I played that game for 17 hours, but I honestly can't say how diplomacy or spying works. I know spying is based on missions, the shorter the mission is, the greater are the risks, but I never tried it against an empire, only against pirates. And you shouldn't provoke pirates, they're stronger than you when the game starts, and they're advantaged when it comes to hit-n-run.

However, they're themselves extremely vulnerable against attacks, so if you find their constructor ship, you can fuck them up.

>What would you say are the main differences between EL and Civ? Just to prepare myself for the different mindset.
6 shares quite a few more similarities with EL than 5 ever did, but main points are as follows:
>No workers
This means tile improvements aren't a thing. There is one district that improves anomalies with shifters, and probably something else that I don't remember/know, but positioning of your city is key to it's success. What to look for will depend on a faction you are playing, but high total fidsi, space to expand (look up optimal city pattens and keep them in mind when settling, they are simple) and production are essencial to good early game.
>Tech bubbles
You don't research all techs for any given era, meaning you pick and chose what to skip and also when to research an outdated tech despite penalties (cost of research goes up based on number of techs researched)
>Meaningful combat
Unit equipment/composition management have a greater role than civ.
>Heroes
Pmuch everything that has to do with them.

It depends on how you want to start learning. Normal will try to kick your ass and see if you can handle it, easy will let you explore the system but at a price of teaching you next to nothing about how to play smart.

I forgot to mention quests, they are very important, there are even quests that are competitive like wonders in civ called legendary deeds. Like be first to activate 4 lux resources, or be first to defeat 10 armies. That give wonder esque empire wide bonuses for completion. But normal quests, most of which you will gain by using "parley" (unlocked by era 1 tech) on minor facions can get you a strong early game boost, or reward you with a free tech/units.

horses for days, but they also have the 50 hp heal on kill for ANY unit regardless of era
>aztecs
bonus amenities for city sprawl, warriors beat anything up in early eras for free workers (that can also rush districts, making them a powerhouse for that)
>sumeria
early game advantage out the ass, barbarian exterminators, ez warmongering
>rome
just all around solid, free monuments in every city for city sprawl+roads and trading posts to all of them, swordsman doesn't need iron to build, better aqueduct
>>158305181
less expensive to produce
bigger bonuses
and it doesn't seem like they even count toward the district limit

Russia isn't the true tundra nation. Congo is.

Flat, featureless tundra is permanently stuck at one food, with no other modifier. You can't make any improvements with builders. Not even farms. The only thing you can do is plant woods on them and then put a lumber mill on those woods.

Unless you're Kongo.

If you're Kongo, once you've planted woods, you can build a Mbanza on the wooded tundra tile. This replaces the Neighborhood district so you can place as many of them as you like.

No citizens are needed to work the tile once you've made it a Mbanza. It just passively provides +5 Housing, +2 Food and +4 Gold.

Congo, the dindu buttfuck Africans, are apparently the masters of turning tundra into something useful. Step aside, Russia.

Vaulters and Ardent are my favourites. Vaulters provide nice overall bonuses, are simple to utilise and very versatile in my expirience. Ardent, aren't someone I'd recoomend to a newbie, despite not being radically unique, their game tends to be somewhat snowbally, they start weak compared to others, with glass cannon units and meh economic bonuses, but once they get rolling they can truly become absurd. WW vs Vaulters for newbies is a long standing debate, and it comes down to personal preference in my opinion.

I have a free DW protyip: redisgn your mining stations so they have some armor or shield and a couple basic guns. Make the old design obsolete and only produce the armed model from there on out. This will fend off the nuisance level pirate escorts and buy more time for your police escorts to get there.
You DID set up all your escorts in a couple of anti pirate fleets with defense orderas and then set them on automate, right? That way you can focus on building up your warfleet and minmaxing it while your escort blob chases pirates and space critters.

I'll disagree with others here. Either my computer is bad or the game has really long turns. Because of that I got bored of it. Had the turns been shorter it would be addictive as hell tho
>>
What i want, aside from the obvious balance fixes for all the exploit shit, is a better pin system.

I want pins that are like "ghost districts". What i mean by that is i want to put a marker on the map that always tells me current adjacency bonus for whatever district i want to build there in the future. They always say you have to plan your cities but don't give you the tools to do actual planning.

Even just an overlay where i can plop down all districts and play around to find a good setup would be great.

i just put down pins myself like when settling as germany i make sure i can have each hansa touching at least two commercial hubs for +5 production in a diamond formation between the two cities

Works on my machine. Where V would take literal minutes to process a late-game turn, VI just needs a few seconds.

I can't believe they actually gave Gandhi the nuclear meme agenda as his second one.

Between that shit, the snarky as fuck but often wrong Civpedia and the mocking "worker captured" popup when not even one of your cites being capped produces a popup otherwise it feels like this shit was made by the Borderlands team or something.

Not to mention the actual gameplay issues like districts destroying tiles that would've turned out to have your only copy of a key strategic resource 200 turns later when you could actually see it.

God, yes. I've played 30 hours over the last 3,5 days.

I've been looking at civ 6's xml and sql definitions and so far it looks like the game has been somewhat rushed and also has some feautres scrapped.

Things like game speeds are much less configurable, in civ 5 there where 24 fields for options in the sql definition, in civ 6 there seem to be only 4(WTF?) if the rest of the game is this hardcoded, moding will be quite a hassle.

There is the ocasional comment... "<!--Phillip gets these, though they should be tied to Spain's trait instead, as soon as I implement that-->"

Military unit stacking can be activated, the ui supports it but i can't prevent units from swapping places if they have moves left.

The game doesn't seem to break if i push huge maps to be 50% larger (150*94), but it takes 3 times as long to load.

Really the problem is that with everything being compartmentalized into districts except for food, luxuries and strategics (even though Neighborhoods come FAR FAR FAR too late to matter and should really start way earlier but only scale up slowly in how much they do over the ages) is that essentially you need real big, solid food tiles that you'll keep forever, and very little else, other than maybe adjacency bonuses and the mentioned luxury/strategics. And Water basically does nothing and costs you space for all the districts and wonders you now MUST sacrifice a tile for. The only worthwhile boosts from water are resource tiles which are good anyway, or cliffs which boost said neighborhoods that come way too late.

By the way, playing a Civ 6 game right now where I've arrived in modern era, am bordering several heavily religious Civs, didn't found my own religion, just a pantheon...... and no one has spread a religion to my cities. Neighborhoods should start Classical or Medieval but have significantly less effect (and maybe no buildings yet) that slowly improve over time as you get more techs that make close-quarters habitation of many humans at the same time more viable, like Sanitation and Refrigeration, kinda upgrading them like the roads upgrade, and eventually get their buildings aswell.

Yes, but LotR is actually, you know, a renowned classic of literature that has merits on its own, not just because it's popular. Naruto has nothing. It's an bland, empty, banal story. It's like the Hunger Games.

The equivalent to LotR when it comes to /a/ should be something like the original Gundam from '79. Just like LotR, it's a classic piece that has codified its entire genre, and affected the entire medium, though some might find it difficult to enjoy.

Nobody brings it up, ever. The point is that you need to know the ones everyone is going to compare to if you're going to talk about manga.

When it comes to /a/ you need to have read a page-long list of certain manga and watched a long-ass list of certain anime to not come off as a massive newfag because nobody bothers lurking for 2 years anymore and probably never did and even lurking won't help you if you don't know something considered basic.

>just like the hunger games
If you're going to going to discuss similar stories you should know about HG, just like you should have read Twilight not because it is good but because it's so bad that people will actively compare poorly written stories or parts of stories to Twilight as having ticked just about every literary 'do not do this'.

Not the ONE thing. Don't forget the music. And that's not talking about with the expansion which made BE tolerably playable.

My biggest disappointment with BE is despite the heavy war focus (Basically every victory condition involves war, just depends if you're on offense or defense) they didn't gear the rest of the game around it. Would've been quite happy with a simple combat-focus civ5 in space along the lines of the old strategy game Deadlock or whatever.

With the unit production pantheon and the cavalry policy it's insane and now that you can capture settlers intact you can just send a few horses to the surrounding areas and capture other peoples settlers and use them to settle for yourself.

I feel like there is no need to min max ( apart from using the right policies ), that you can just make a city in a good spot and develop it naturally according to the surroundings, and that will get you slowly ahead of the AI.

I'm not very good at civ5, usually play on king, I started with civ4 years ago and I think I had a lot of bad habits.

But with 6 I feel like I could take on emperor easily if only the constant wars didnt make it so annoying at some point.

I like the changes regarding cities, its weird but I find city management more complex but also more accessible at first than civ5 where I constantly fuck up no matter what I'm trying to focus on.

Ah.
>>
>>158320336
You get a pantheon by generating 25 faith, it's functionally very similar to civ 5.
But to get a religion running you need something else - great prophet points. You get them either by building a holy site, taking a special wildcard policy card or building a stonehenge, which allows you to instantly get a religion. After you got a religion you won't be able to generate great prophet points anymore, you'll need a shrine in your holy site to hire missionaries and TEMPLE (this is important to know, therefore caps) to hire apostles, which let you evangelize and add 2 more traits to your religion. Apostles can also engage in religious combat, which is kinda like normal combat, but after it ends the winner's religion gets a huge boost in a decent AOE. Another one of their abilities is inquisition, you can only hire actual inquisitors after using it once with an Apostle.
Also religious buildings are significantly worse now because you need the aforementioned Temple to even start building them.

>>158320898
they do give pretty nice bonuses though. I'm fond of the production and housing religious buildings. You want at least one holy site with a temple regardless of your victory goal so you can get inquisitors and purge religion. In my current game i'm smack dab in the middle of arabia, rome and tommy who all come together in kyoto every once in a while to do huge religious battles over kyoto. I'm basically barrens crossroads where everyone meets.. Whenever they are done i just get an inquisitor from fukuoka and undo like 20 spreads and a couple of combats with a single purge.

Okay guys, explain something to me because I've played Civ 4 and 5 but not at a high level, so I was never very good at specializing my cities as great people farms, science farms, trade hubs or what have you.

On Civ 6, is it a good strategy for every single one of your cities to have every single district type? Or is this a terrible idea?
And which districts should you prioritize?

For example: I'm in a Sumeria game. I settled 3 cities, and they're all close to mountains - so it would make sense to get Campuses on all of them right? But what about encampments, holy sites, entertainment districts, etc?

I feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff you can be building at anyone time, and I quickly lose grasp of what should be my priority or how I should be specializing my cities. Earlier than that, I even have trouble deciding whether I want a builder, a monument, a granary, or what first.

Pls advice

industrial zones are by far the most important and you should try to get one in your cities as soon as possible.

The neighborhood and entertainment districts become vital mid-game if you want to grow your city's population past 10. The other districts are situational based on the geography around your cities and what type of victory you are going for.
