It just occurred to me. Why is it that Mitsuru's father, Ikutsuki and some of the researchers were able to experience the Dark Hour, despite not having Personas? I understand that in P4 Arena, Mitsuru's story mode reveals that she had designed special rings that allow normal people to experience the Dark Hour but I think those rings were a fairly recent invention with regards to that particular entry in the series.

In a P4 cutscene, Naoto confronts the group with his theory of what's going on. Naoto argues that there was nothing of intrinsic value about the victims, that the victims of the murders were simply people who had recently appeared on TV. After their appearance, they mysteriously went missing and were presumed to be kidnapped. Naoto argues that looking into it further, Yukiko, Kanji and Rise all similarly went missing for a while but they came back without dying. What this would imply then, to Naoto is that they either escaped death or they "diverted attention from themselves". That makes no sense.

How would disappearing divert attention AWAY from them? People would put more focus on a missing person, surely? Or was it to divert attention away from the group? Not that the group were getting much attention, outside of Adachi, Dojima and Naoto. Faking kidnappings and using the publicity offered by the media as a distraction seems a bit too far though.

I think being able to experience the Dark Hour was about having potential. Perhaps Takeharu, Ikutsuki and Natsuki all just failed to develop that potential (either by choice or lack of will). Naoto, being a nerd who likes old-school pulp entertainment, is trying the old "Provoke and confront" routine to get you all to slip up. Given the average IQ and social skills of your team versus Naoto, this is actually a smart play by Naoto.

2. While I love P4, Atlus failed spectacularly in almost every aspect of the plot pertaining to the central mystery. They needed scenes where Kanji looked like he was dangerous (Which they failed at because Kanji doesn't even pretend to be threatening.) and they needed scenes where Naoto looked dangerous in a different manner (Again, total failure, as the stakes aren't there.) but they sure aren't going to whiz these scenes as it is the only tension and drama they have.

The Dark Hour was created when Yukari's dad blew the whole thing up. The reason that Mitsuru's father and Ikutsuki and such can experience the Dark Hour is that they had some kind of idea of their "meaning of life". Of course, they never had a chance of finding their "meaning of life" 100% like the MC, but the fact they had some kind of start could be a reason why they can experience it.

Takeharu's dedicated his life to vanquish The Dark Hour/Tartersauce in order to protect the people and his daughter. Ikutsuki dedicated his life to somehow get power from Tartarus and summon Nyx since the experiment blew up.

Notice how both had some kind of strong reason to their living, or their "meaning to life". You can say the same for this for SEES.

The needs of drama demand that Naoto not show up and immediately be the team's friend. The team is trying to stay low from the police. Objectively, the team has done nothing wrong. Quite the opposite. In fact, all the evidence pointing to the team is that they've disappeared for probably two or three days but come back just fine. But they're all so close to the case that if the police think they're related, they really have no recourse.

Naoto can't display mad deductive prowess against the villain. That would end the game. The drama is served better if she shows up and fingers the team as suspicious pretty early on, only to learn the truth the hard way and then we get a sweet boss fight and a hard-won friendship out of the deal.

But, it is still as you said, the only stuff Naoto has is "They disappeared for a while." Which isn't an act any thinking villain would do. There has been no murders since the original, and the pattern of the team's behavior doesn't match anything relating to the ACTUAL murders.

This guy basically nailed it on the head. As much as the mystery aspect of the plot can be improved, it is a very excellent way to push the theme of P4 forward: having the friends fight through dungeons to witness the person to be saved face themselves.

This is what makes me believe that P4 handles its theme better than P3. Unlike in P3 where there were already people with Personas, P4 has the Investigation Team discover their Personas together. In fact, like I said, they witness facing themselves, even when their unconscious is blurting out everything about a specific person (ie. Yukiko's Shadow to Chie). This really pushes that important concept of friendship and bond-building while also still focusing on being oneself.

Shadows could pull people out into the Dark Hour by calling to them, which is how they got their vicitms. If these people were saved they'd forget all about the Dark Hour.

Mitsuru's father and Ikutsuki used a method the Kirijo group developed to enter the dark hour and remember what happens without needing the potential. However they have no Persona and can't fight Shadows, so they're vulnerable, which is why Ikutsuki never leaves the dorm during the Dark Hour.

There's really nothing to say about that. They almost certainly did it to make things easy on the player rather than having to rank her up the last 3 times regularly when there was only about a month left of coop time.

It was likely the same with Goro. You'd probably have to rank him up once or twice for the month he was in the party, otherwise it wouldn't max out at his boss fight, like Adachi and Ryoji but they decided to give the player a break and just give it to them.

If you're referring to 1a, it's actually right after Magician, which does make me think it was a placeholder or that the Magician card perhaps had a different design they decided not to use.

Gaining the Personas wasn't as important as having them as tools in P3. P3 didn't need to have the central cast grow closer in the same way because most of your links are outside of the group. There is a lot of group tension but people grow to accept their flaws and weaknesses as they push through hardships.

P3's central themes were around death/tragedy and acceptance, whereas P4's were facing the truth and the search for it. P4 did a relatively good job with these by having the shadow dungeons and the whole search for the real killer, but P3 did a good job by having several tragic events (including character deaths that hit close to the characters and the revelation that they were furthering the villain's plan for half of the game) and then having them overcome them with internal emotional struggles and insight from others.

Yeah I've been trying to, problem is that the dialogues only trigger if you're actually moving around the map, so it takes a long time to write them all down. Then from what I've seen, most dialogues seem to have at least 3 different replies from different characters, so add all of this up and it's a really time-consuming task.

I wouldn't mind translating them but I don't really have the time rn, so if anyone wants what I've got so far just ask and I'll upload it.

Basically along the lines of "You are me and i am you. We are one" type of shit about how they are connected and then they say something that relates to why they have awakened like "you now have the power to take back your reveneg against your prosecutor".

From what i have noticed its basically a chant that kind of summons them or makes a contract.

They are basically devils/demons agreeing to lend you there power

The dialogue disappears so fast it's really hard to grab a picture of too, especially since pausing, attacking anything, bashing open walls or opening treasures stops the dialogue entirely.

Don't the cognitive existences work pretty similarly to shadows, come to think of it? Okumura's version of his fiancee turned into a variant of one of the robot-like shadows once he turned hostile, for example, and Futaba was definitely able to pick up on the previous cognitive existences.

I always figured she counted Shidou-Goro as one of the shadows/small fry in that line because of that, so it wouldn't really be too odd if it's only Goro she couldn't sense (and that's how the line before that seemed to me too) because of Loki's concealment ability. If Shidou-Goro's presence really was unnoticeable to her too, then that's... pretty odd considering none of the other cognitive existences up to that point had that, as far as we know.
