Nigger i think you dont understand how fucking fucked my situation is.

I cant capture shit because Sparta (the city which is spawning around 4 OP barbarian units) is in the center between my cities and their cities.

We are fighting with stones and sticks trying to catpure each other cities before we get raped by the barbarians, then the reinforcements get raped if they try to get into their localization.

I dont want to give in and make peace because she is going to come back and rape my ass, Caesar meanwhile is chilling in the west coast with Japan.

You need to capture more Amenities so Sparta doesn't spawn wildlings. That's the only solution. Otherwise, kill the production queue for one city and build an Entertainment District stat, because you need to free up some other amenities.

Forget the Barbarians; you can repair tiles later. It's not like they can take Sparta away from you.

So do I. It's really difficult to find a fun RTS.
The old games are pretty deep, but have shitty AI and lame pathfinding, and the recent games are shallow and too fast4you, to cater to the e-sport audience.

Cossacks 3, Age of Empires 2 HD and Supreme Commander : FA are the only exceptions I know, and two of them are fairly old already.

Well, how tall are we talking? Pretty sure industrial has 4 specialist slots once you get a power plant, probably other districts aren't much off that, though I don't think all of them have 4 slots. I don't get how you get size 15 as the optimal one out of it.
>>
>>158185294
I dislike having to get the officer a drummer organised with every unit (I know you don't need them but they are very beneficial), especially when you are basically constantly building troops. Found it lacking any real tactics, it's just pump out troops asap and overwhelm enemy. I didn't try it out for long. Couple games so I could be wrong. Just wasn't for me I guess.
>>

>>
When wasteful wars
>>
I feel like the AI doesn't even try to act like it's not all teaming up against you at every point in the game. I had Victoria declare war on me(Sumeria) on turn 46 of Epic, so I just had to build 3 war-carts and then I conquered her in like 10 turns. I think the AI just did it to stall me so Trajan could build up a little bit, but he never really did anything with that gap Victoria bought him with her life. China also decided to just not settle more than two cities for some reason and gave Trajan like 3/5 of the continent. Maybe I'm just forgetting, but I don't remember it being that blatant in V.
>>
>>158185508
Ha yes. The formations can easily be fucked if you play against someone who know what he's doing.
That's a real problem, I'm not going to lie.

Same for the spam troops thing, it's also a problem. In fact, it's very easy to rush the enemy and use formations to get the advantage.

But to be honest, Cossacks 3 is one of these games where you're supposed to have a peacetime of 20-30 minutes and only start the fight once everyone has an army.
It's pretty shallow if you just play it normally.

It doesn't really help that the AI cheats and has no fog of war.
>>

>Rome is my best bud
>Trajan phones me up to tell me I'm a fucker because I didn't convert to the light of islam

My brother got civ6 yesterday and he's been showing me how to play since I've never played any grand strategy in my life except Romance of the three kingdoms on SNES.

We're taking a break, but right now I'm leading in Science and Domination even though his city is way bigger and mines is fucked up. I started sandwiched between 3 other nations and 2 of them declared war on me. He just took over some weaker person.

Any way I somehow managed to get ahead in terms of technology, but it takes forever to build shit. My citizens also revolted because I don't have a lot of amenities. I'm at war with him, but I don't know what to do. I'm holding him off because I have superior units, but he has a ton of units. I've just kind of been building whatever takes the least amount of time. He thinks I'm way ahead, but once he kills my units he'll see I'm fucked.

You have to organize your armies into left flank, center flank, right flank. If you just dump all your dudes in the middle the opponents left and right flanks can attack you for more damage while taking significantly less themselves.
There's also different tactics based off the situation. If you are archer heavy and the opponent is infantry heavy you can do shit like skirmish that increases archer damage while decreasing infantry damage and commanders can gain personalities that unlock different tactics. You can also do shit like berserker charge if you are a scandinavian culture or an ambush attack if you are defending in forest with a smaller force.

[Civ 6] I feel like I'm doing something wrong when settling new cities

Newish player. I notice that when settling a new city it takes like 40 turns to build the most simple thing, even though the city's production seems pretty much the same as your capital's when you start. I normally send workers to cut down nearby trees for a quick production boost, and later I set up trade routes between my cities to increase production more, until I can eventually set down an industrial zone district.

Am I doing this right? Is it normal that new cities are such an uphill battle?
>>
>>158187305
Nah it's fine. There's like a 60 turn wait when you try to win sciencely since you have to build all these things that cost a ton of production and are right at the end of the tree and you have to do them one at a time.
>>
>Starting on plans hill is a 50% Production boost over starting on any other tile

In SEVEN KINGDOMS 2, it's perfectly possible for a spy to cause a war between two countries.

It happens to every AI with a mod. they will all sit around -60 something and be unable to get out more than a handful of units.

I'd like to see the AI here play without the ability to spam units form nowhere.

And if a human cannot get a positive GPT, then they are failing to learn the basic rule of Civ that is bothering to manage your shit. I feel most new players can get into a negative GPT when they are unaware that things cost, and leave the management of citizens up to the game.

I'm really not loving it. From the lacking options both in regards to game setup and to just UI and other shit like the tooltip delay, to horses being stupidly OP, to civs being ridiculously unbalanced, to a lot of stuff where districts just grate on everything else.

Honestly gonna need a biiiiiiig overhaul patch or first expansion to really hold my interest.

Doubt they'll change the tech quotes to non-meme ones, make the Civpedia non-snarky (and often completely incorrect while being snarky) and actually helpful or replace Sean Bean with someone that's actually good at the whole quote stuff, though.

>>158191276
Civ games always improve to good via 2 expansions. Civ 5 basically was a "proof of concept" that you could make a Civ game with hexes when it released. It had fucking nothing.

Civ VI has significantly more stuff, but is still gonna need at least ONE big overhaul to really make sense.

There's also decisions that are just gonna turn into wasted dev time once the most basic mods hit, like the Access level agenda shit, since you can still tell their agendas and other stuff from dialogue and their actions, so there'll be a mod that will just put that info out for you once a human could have deduced the agenda from the information visible to you.

BE stands at the "why aren't you just playing Alpha Centauri" tier. It's a bad, bad, bad knockoff that didn't understand anything at all about what it was trying to copy other than at the most shallow level, made baffling balance and other decisions and sometimes just fails at logic. Such as when there's no airfields for your airplanes to refuel so they're only useful directly around cities, but since you can built Aircraft Carrier ships somehow your planes can dominate the seas. I'm glad Civ 6 at least gave us the military engineer with the airstrip stuff.

Yeah and the Civpedia is absolute garbage tier if you actually click on Tell Me More.

I remember an anon posting an article about the three kingdoms from it where they spent most of it just making fun of sinologists, wrongly, aswell, saying they just "came up" with the name Three Kingdoms Era because they're so "creative", except for the fact that a guy who lived in the era wrote the most famous record of it and titled it with Three Kingdoms in its name thousands of years ago.

Clearly Firaxis shouldn't try informal writing, EVER. All the tech quotes are meme-tier too.

>>
>>158192046

>>
>>158191835

>>
>>158192007
You get all his cities, growth and all.
>>
>>158192196
>BE was unbelievably garbage, made worse by the fact that Firaxis didn't even attempt to salvage it.
I think really the thing to keep in mind is that you cannot ever trust a game that Firaxis releases to be playtested in any sensible way.

Civ 6 literally has issues that become obvious within minutes of first playing to anyone, like the eternal wait for tooltips as the only way to actually fully analyze a tile, especially when the fog of war effect makes it absolutely necessary to actually tell what a covered tile is. And then the options menu doesn't even have a tooltip delay option.

If anyone who was remotely of the same mindset as anyone here had playtested that shit you'd never see it.

So basically just assume that no Firaxis game will EVER be good on release, because it has not yet made contact with any real people.

The problem with BE was that they tried to emulate something they clearly didn't understand in any way and then when it encountered reality it was so fucked they just threw their hands in the air.

Trying deity and every single game so far has been lost because of religion and always within 150 turns. It's so fucking dumb I don't know how it got through playtesting balance. The only counter is to just declare war and mow down religious units

I've constantly had Kalinka Kalinka as my only music while playing as Rome, because Russia was my neighbor apparently. Even after Russia had been eliminated from the game.

Can't make apostles without a holy district. If you have a holy district then you aren't ignoring it. Having to invest into a holy district as a mandatory way to not lose is retarded. You don't need to invest in any other district the same way as holy.

Civ 6, while good, seriously is making me want to try the stellaris expansion instead. Civ is just so goddamn slow now. Everything after the renaissance feels like a chore.
>>
>>158192982
No. If you ignore religion completely you will 100% lose unless you are going domination victory (the only one that can out-race religious victory on any mop but duel, on duel map religion is seriously fucktarded)
>>
>>158193168
IMO requiring that your city center be coastal to make a harbor is even worse, considering how much you fuck yourself in terms of district, improvement and wonder placement by going coastal with the center. There's way too many mid-to-lategame wonders that require placement adjacent to City Center too that are just fucking BS because who has a whole like that at that point.
>>
>>158193168
Thats what Im saying you cant just ignore religion.
Its now an active victory condition and if you want to prevent somebody from achieving it you have to stop him yourself.

I'm kinda sorta okay with this because that's always been the case with military aswell. You can't NOT have an army to defend yourself, so now you can't not produce culture to defend yourself either. I feel like that was the intent of Tourism in 5 aswell. It's meant to throw a wrench into just rolling out a domination victory.

Merchant Republic has 1 military slot and thats all you need to save money, just switch the right policy in whenever you need it.

ie. the upgrading cost reduction one when your about to upgrade your army
>>
>>158194192
Horsemen are a classical era tech though. Currently barbs are getting them from the start of the game, long before anyone else researches them. At least in 5 barbs were restricted by tech level of civs instead of getting free military techs from an era ahead.

>>158194253
I'm not arguing about merchant republic being the best, but military cards are far from useless, 50% discount on upgrades right around the time you get crossbows and knights is godly.

I was with you a couple of games ago, but then I got gud. You literally chop/eat everything around your new cities with builders except luxuries. Agendas are ass and the majority of them you can't do nothing about whether you're violating them or not, plus a lot of it depends on their own standing and if they suck you're always gonna piss them off or always please them, depending on which way the agenda swings.

Then when industrial age comes along everyone plays nice. It's bizarre.

Why is religion so overpowered? I mean religions themselves are dogshit but religion as a way to win is completely fucked. Same goes to a lesser extent for tourism but once the religion train gets going there is NOTHING you can do to stop it besides completely eradicating that Civ from the face of the earth. There is no non-violent way to beat it unless you were also going religious victory and also happen to be producing enough faith to produce as much as them. But then you get into the most tedious shit ever put into this game. Enjoy micro battling 30 fucking inquisitors every goddamn turn.

Also there is way more micro in this game that persists until the end of the game. Just trying to close out the last 100 turns is physically painful it's so slow.

I think Civ 6 is a huge step forward compared to 5, especially the potential, but I even think Stellaris has more lasting appeal just because of the pacing and micro. I mean you can seriously play Civ for like 2 hours in atomic era and accomplish almost nothing in that time if you are in a standard or bigger map. It's insane.

Is it even worth focusing on science in Stellaris?

I have ships that are twice as powerful as the enemy ships but I have like three to four times fewer ships because my mineral production is shit. Most planets are full of labs so I'm relying on a handful of planets and system resources to for my minerals.

>>
>>158201905
Fresh water, nearby resources, potential proximity district modifiers like mountains, potential wonder placement conditions, since they are very specific this time around. Theoretically you should consider placement of wonders you'll unlock in info era while building districts in ancient era, tile fuckery got a lot more important in this game.
Suggested locations can be shitty, so just think for yourself.

How to play Rome:
1. Hope you spawned close to someone else
2. Find the bastard
3. Research Legions, Archers, and Ram
4. Build those fuckers
5. Fuck that bastard right in his/her face

Works every time. In this game I had France and Scythia spawn close to me so I forward settled France to piss them off, and to make it easier to attack them. In reply, they started to build a shit ton of warriors - just the most warriors you've ever seen. So I made a B-line for legions and managed to get 3 of them out before France made their attack. If you got 20 planets then maybe you can fight them if you go over your force limit quite a bit, but it's a fools arrand to fight them without having a 150k fleet. In your case it looks like they were even bigger.

I only fight them when there is nearly nothing else to fight.

>>158204459
>arrand
>>
>>158204302
I understand that they have to be powerful, but why the fuck do they ask you to cede everything and why the fuck are their armies and basically everything so OP to the point that you cannot do shit. You should be able to resist them to some point so they can't just tell the entire galaxy whatever they fuck they want because curb stomp fucking everyone with impunity because they don't even have to worry about maintenance, fleet caps or anything that limits a regular empire.

Even if you have half the fucking galaxy spanning late game empire, it;s fucking absurd you have to probably pool all resources to defeat one stupid two system empire.

>>158204420
It's ok if they are powerful but this is fucking dumb as shit considering how you can do absolutely fucking nothing to or with the FEs. You might as well have a fucking pop up telling you whatever the FE wants and then that happens because you don't have any fucking choice when it comes to anything they ask.

I am Council of Ssh at the top-left side.

It'd really make more sense imo if every civilization got a guarenteed river next to them

Yeah but Fallen Empires being literally unstoppable demigod nations is a good mechanic because that's the entire point of their existence. It could be improved if you could somehow rope in another Fallen Empire to help you against this one but otherwise no, they should be unstoppable and you should be made to play around them until you're ready to fuck with them, it's like being an OPM next to France.

Oh, damn! Then making my species Industrious and Thrifty when I have most of my worlds in a gigantic research-focused Sector is a big mistake; I should swap them out for Intelligent and something else.

Does the Repugnant trait apply to alien empires, or the happiness of alien Pops sharing planets with your species?

Which is less damaging, Fleeting or Slow Breeders?

The traits apply to the tiles worked by a pop with that trait. So if your a xenophile empire you can have tiles optimised by having the best species for the job on each tile.

I wanted warfare to be more fleshed out, and for them to fix how warmongering worked.

This happened, but with two added downsides: 1) the AI cheats more than ever with how it spawns units to make up for the fact that the player has several more tactical options.
2) The warmongering options might as well not exist with how hellbent all the AI are on murdering you. I have yet to play a single game without several AI civs finding a reason to violently attack me.

I wanted a better reward for going after barbarians, and that was done at the expense of barbarians now coming in waves. They don't matter if you militarize and take fuck all to defend against, but it's as if raging barbarians is constantly on.

I wanted a more fleshed out city system, and districts along with the new happiness system is one of the strongest improvements this game has over 5, but at the same time, districts and wonder spam take up disgusting amounts of land while growth hasn't changed.

It's better than EU4, not as good as CK2. It still needs another year or so to reach its potential, but it doesn't have a lot of major problems other than just being really similar on each playthrough and sector AI being stupid.
