Civ6: Someone else get extremely long turn times somewhere in the early midgame? It like almost crashes, more like a freeze, but you can tell windows to wait for an answer and then it will continue normally until you start the next turn.
I checked the taskmanager and it shows me that the game is running on lower than normal for processor priority, if I try to change it, I can tab back into the game, the Turn plays out without a problem and fast THEN it freezes again and after a while it plays the turn again. If you check it reverted back to lower than normal as processor priority.

Relevant Hardware:

What would you say are the least damaging negative traits in Stellaris?

I said no to them once and that caused a -200 opinion change because that is totally reasonable considering the fuck all options I have to fix that.

I'm of the opinion that technology progresses too fast in comparison to the rate of production in Civ VI. By the time you trigger the Industrial era, you're lucky if you've managed to update your units and buildings to the modern era.

I'm about to to edit this and make tech progress much more slowly.

How slow do you think it needs to be in order to balance out tech progress with production? 10%? 25%? 50%? 100%?
>>
>>158207556
Lets use civ5:
>Tall
>Between 3-5 cities

Civ 6 is way different, i'd say that 8 cities is Tall and 12+ is Wide

It has lots of content, but after like 3 games you've seen it all and there's very little replayability.
Because there's no real win condition or end date games just last as long as you can be bothered to keep going. Mine are usually about 50 hours but I think that's longer than usual 'cos I play slooooooow and larpy.

What map type are you playing on? I'm looking for a map sort of like that, with largish islands that you can settle a few cities on. From personal experience, the islands map type always makes super small islands that barely fit one city, let alone 3-5.

One of the problems with Stellaris (why, indeed, it isn't very replayable) is that all the governments and ethoses play almost exactly the same. The differences are 95% cosmetic, so to be honest I'd just recommend going with the one that sounds most fun.

I think if you're minmaxing the consensus is that Irenic Monarchy is best, although that was before the new update, they might have rebalanced shit now.

iirc leddit said that there was some production penalties to expanding loads - but apperently it's minor

The only real penalty is the Amenity, with 1 resource only going to 4 cities - so try and multiply every luxury by 4 when expanding
Or pick up some policies that give you some

Doesn't work, every surplus luxury copy won't be used for anything but trade. Someone on leddit tested it. So a luxury gives amenities to 4 cities, no matter how many copies you have.

Also you like tripple the production cost of districts if you have 4 cities. RIP.

While technically distinct, they all require you to do almost exactly the same thing in terms of gameplay. So too with Stellaris: all 3 of those victories require massive fleet-based conquests.
>>
What kind of starting build order?
If I want a prophet, where should I inject a district into it?
How to hit 6 pop with all this so I can begin settler spam?
Should I be building settlers even before I the 50% bonus production?

>Yeah, I'm so glad the game made it abundantly clear clicking that Decline button is basically the same as quitting to menu and starting a new game.
Not him but its not. You were not paying attention to diplomatic relations with different factions and you got burned for it. You dont have to follow what FEs say, but you should have known that that FE didnt like you and saying no would piss them off even more

This is 100% your fault. Also, dont bitch about a feature you can turn off. If you dont like FEs dont play with them.
>>
>>158208794
No, its like saying VI has the exact same victory conditions because it all falls down to spamming a purple, white or blue building until you win.

If you want to say the victory conditions are lame go head, but hold every 4X game to the same standard, they all have shitty victory conditions.

And for the record only the military conquest requires a fleet. You can legitimately finish the game without warfare.
>>
What the fuck are bonus resources for?
Are they useless?
>>
>>158208794

In this case I observed Spain's AI for most of the game.
It build units, moved towards Montezuma to attack. Then Montezuma completed a district, and his score went up, and Spain's AI decided he is too strong for them, so they moved back.
The continued building units to prepare for their attack, and when they had a few more they moved in. But then Montezuma finished conquering a city state, so his score went up, so Spain AI decided he is too strong, and moved back, to build more units.
Now a player would know that in the first place Monty had a smaller unit, since he invested in districts, and in the second his army is far away. But in this game a civilization's war ability is tied to some score that goes up doing things that don't have to do with military might necessarily.
In the third attempt to move on Monty I saw they moved back when he founded a city. How does Montezuma founding a city make it less likely for Spain's attack to succeed? I don't know, but Spain moved back on the turn after Monty founded that city, and he kept building more units.

So now Montezuma has several cities, founded and conquered from city states, and a good size army, and Spain hasn't expanded yet, or built any districts other than the military one, and they continue pursuing their early game strategy of bum rushing him, hundreds of turns later, with their army so large it covers the entire peninsula, but still not large enough to compete with Monty's overall score, and thus Spain still doesn't consider itself ready for war, and builds more shitty outdated units.

>>158209072
Seems like you can harvest them for instant food or whatever, or just improve them for good gains.
>>
>>158208963
As far as 1.2 goes, it has these two

Conquest: requires to conquer or subjugate all other empires.
Domination: requires to colonize/conquer 40% of all colonizable planets; planets owned by vassals count but those owned by allies and Federation members do not.

I guess they also added a Federation victory condition in 1.3.

Try and tell me how do you "win" with those conditions without ever waging war.
>>
>>158207163
There's a spacewar mp patch though that works only with other people who have it installed
>>
>>158209072
The UI does a terrible job making it clear. Bonus resources typically give +1 food, production, or +2 gold on the tile. Luxury resources in comparison give bonuses as well as that coveted +4 amenity.
>>
>>158208831

I have no fucking means to know how powerful the FEs are, I have no idea how displeased they will become when I disagree one fucking offer. Considering that every other demand for vassalization causes -20 penalty to relations, getting a fucking -200 penalty to a faction that you can't interract with is certainly not something I can know before I click decline. Also, what the fuck is seriously the point of giving me an option in this when I cannot say anything but yes if I want to continue playing the game.

>>158208824
Yeah, that's really descriptive and fully explains that if I make one option it'll make me forcibly lose the game.

>>158208739
>having one AI dislike you is the same as quitting the game

Yeah, it fucking literally is. I can't stop FE from stomping my shit, I can't interract with them diplomatically to make up for that -200 fucking relation penalty, I can't defeat them militarily, I can't ask to become their vassal anymore after refusing once.

That's literally the same as quitting the game since you are forced to lose anyway.
>>

The number of empires in stellaris is so fucking huge that you'll never have 40% of colonizable planets without ever fighting anyone.

Federation victory is basically the same thing, only it counts all the empires that are a part of a Federation. They still would have to fight to get to the 40% mark.

And you can do literally nothing else. You can't make your empire the economic center of the galaxy, you can't make it a huge tourist resort, you can't invent some neat tech.

I'm looking for YouTube channels or Twitch streamers that are actually good at Civ 6, so I can learn how to play decently.

I had more than enough influence because I had elections every 5 years and 150 to 250 influence per election promise, as well as rushing early gain influence increases. You also get a lot from researching new races which I also rushed by sending out scouts.

Unfortunately for you, I know you only play 1 playstyle and pretend its the only way to play. Get some imagination and ingenuity.

Yes, the game tells me that they are powerful, what it doesn't tell me is that they are so shallow and one dimensional that you can literally not do anything but say yes and give up any empire building ambitions you have and diplomatic options or just end the game and decline them. I thought they might be options to do something about them and that there would be options to fucking interact with them after I decline them. It does not say that this will literally end the game and there's nothing you can do about it.

>>158209534
Yes, overwhelming like many other AI's who I can still resist. This is exactly why I hate those comparisons. They should be crude fucking statistics, not some vague adjectives.

Yes, they can destroy me but why would they destroy me when their original request was to make me a vassal and they can just force me to do that?

Oh yes, it's because they have no fucking penalties for expansion so they don't have to worry about revolting planets like everyone else so might as well take all of them.
>>
>>158210131
Because Civ VI might not be optimized like garbage and it'd make better use of the districts system since C2C has the chronic problem of 100000000000 buildings.

Oh then fair enough
>>
>>158209898

It stops players taking planets far away, it doesnt stop you taking lots of planets that are close

Its only 30 influence per planet if its close which is nothing. Combined with massive food increases which means more pops which means more border growth you can minimize the influence cost pretty much entirely.

The game didn't hint in any shape or form that these FE's have fleets more powerful than the rest of galaxy combined. Can anyone give me tips?

I'm going as Hon hon to get a Cultural Victory.

I managed to spawn in this little corner of the map with these mountains helping me turtle myself in.

Are these future cities properly planned?

What is the sweet spot for the number of cities in a Cultural Victory in CIV VI?

Yes, each ship has two or three specific roles in a sort of rock/paper/scissors combo now. You cant rush have battleships + lances and kill everything.

Is there any way to control how traders go towards cities? I got a city on a peninsula I want to build a road from but the traders just embark onto the water.

OOOOOOOOOOOH SHAKA
>>
>>158212462
Cockblock and third city are too close to paris. Each city has a 3 tile radius it takes up.

Fourth and second are perfect.
>>
>>158212462
>What is the sweet spot for the number of cities in a Cultural Victory in CIV VI?
As many as possible.
Cockblock city is pointless, it doesn't have water, nor can it build an aqueduct there, so no housing. It's also near tundra so I doubt anyone will be coming from there anytime soon, it's probably the edge of the map.
Your second city should probably be on the other side of the river, to make room for a city on the lower river there.
>>
What conditions do you like to have met before you start making your first few settlers? Do you start making them on turn x, or only once your capital has x pop, or is it just as early as your build order permits? And once you settle your second or third cities, how do you get their production off the ground? Waiting double digit turns to get a monument on standard speed sucks dick.
Also, what are some 'must haves' for a good settling spot?
t. civ shitter
>>
>>158212618
I wish they would let us customize the route. Road building is really convenient now but at the same time I still want to have a semblance of control.
>>
>>158212804

You can manually build roads with Military Engineers.
>>
>>158212618
No, the trader system needs some major improvements to its functionality and UI design.

>>
>>158212897
Prince/King difficulty
>>
>>158212787

I don't really have a preset condition, I just look at what (and who) is around me, if I see particularly juicy spots to expand to then I'll make it a priority. If there's a lot of city-states or capitals nearby then I'll just conquer them instead of expanding, if it turns out I'm in a lot of empty land then I'll expand. If I see a good cockblock spot or a really great luxury/science/production spot then I'll prioritize expanding there.
>>
>>158212775

2nd move NW, W coastal is detrimental to major cities if there is a river, grab the whatle with another one and purchase stone as soon as you settle.
3rd good

>>
>>158212804
>>158212889
Theres a lot of really nice improvements, instant build workers, the traders building roads, districts add some more depth to city planning, etc. There are a TON of quality of life things that need to be fixed or added though.

Sakura Factory Japan Strategy

Pick Superior Japan.
Build 4-5 cities orbiting around a central district hub
Build 4-5 industrial districts, upgrade to electrical factory + power plant (+8 production, +4 culture, to all cities within 6 tiles of them)

Once you have this industrial hub, make new cities of 1 population (They will start with 32-40 bonus production). Don't grow them. Build more electrical plants and power plants with them. Until you have 8+ cities. Now you have 64+ bonus production in all cities, and the 1 population cities have 64+ production.

Create some huge army and steam roll capitals

It kind of feels like Xenophobes and Collectivists have an extreme advantage over the other ethics, only for the fact that they can purge.

Taking worlds as any other ethos is a huge drag because you have to deal with the native populations that still live on the planet. Whereas purge able ethos can just purge them and move there own people in. Any other ethos can't do that so they're forced to take territory through other means (Vassalize/Induct or just take the planet and hope you can deal with the divergence that comes with the planets population)

So what's the deal with religion in Civ 6 now?

I just read the condition for Religious victory and it seems ridiculous.

Can you pull off wins super early in the game thanks to it?

religious victory is literally just shitting out apostles from when you get them until you win the game

it's also probably the hardest victory in the game because 50% of the AI in a game will be doing the same

but yeah, the religious beliefs are all quite terribly weak, and in a game where production is so valuable having to shit out Holy Site districts and Shrines/Temples/Belief Building is just too much investment for absolutely marginal benefits you get

So how do you win a cultural victory? Should you be prioritizing getting great writers/artists/musicians from the early game, or should you be focusing more on tech/production for key buildings later on? The civilopedia doesn't exactly list all the ways to boost tourism.

Here's how I understand trade routes and trading posts. Let me know if I'm wrong.

1. You can only trade with cities within a certain radius of your cities.
2. "Completing" a trade route places a trading post in the city you traded with.
3. That trading post acts as hub to send new traders from, allowing you to now trade with any city within range of the trading post.

Am I correct?

I don't understand how people enjoy wide. It gets really tedious having to constantly set production, trade routes, etc for 10+ cities. I found it annoying even back in Civ 4 where you didn't have to worry about trade route spam and you could at least set your cities to permanently make science/culture/whatever rather than having to manually select the project everytime it finishes like in 6.

Not to mention how aggressive the barbs are in 6 making it even more of a pain in the ass.

those new yield icons are fucking trash. look at these ones. You can immediately make out which one is 5. Even if you couldn't read the exact number for some reason (which you could since it was a white number on a black dot) you could tell immediately "this yield is 5 or more, that is good!"

The AI on immortal doesn't have to deal with barbars, because they start with a free army. Heading off scouts doesn't matter, if they come close to any tile they can start a raid. You can take your warrior to clear out camps, but more than likely a scout will spot your shit and start a raid before you can even get back to it. Competitive Pokemon is basically you choose any six pokemon at any level you like, the pokemon are divided into tiers (basically how overpowered they are), you give them whatever moves you want, you give them whatever items and abilities you want (obviously they have to actually have the ability and moves), then you go up against someone online doing the same.
So basically you can choose to have level 100
Jellicent
Reuniclus
Gengar
Ferrothorn
Rotom-W
Azumarill
And choose moves and abilities, of these six the highest ones are ranked OU tier so when you fight someone their highest ranked pokemon can be OU tier at maximum
It's actually super hard and the meta keeps changing all the time.

Nigga you should be building a slinger for city defense before your worker. Sure slingers are shit but they will get a kill when barbs inevitably come to town and that boosts archery which lets them upgrade into something useful.

I haven't really checked or compared them fully, but i believe larger kinetic weapons penetrate armor very easily as well as doing serious damage to shields as they penetrate them.

Lasers on the other hand penetrate armor easily but get shit on by any shielding, something like a quarter reduced damage against shields.

Kinetic artillery deals massive armor pen. as well as having range on par with lances and slightly buffed aim.

Right now, if the weapon actually hits, kinetics deal more damage in all situations, the difference being that lasers are more accurate.

So, lasers are more accurate but have limited range and kinetics have longer ranges but are less accurate. Pretty close to reality really.

Missiles are basically the same other than a couple minor changes.

First is that they CAN miss now, they can be evaded.

Torpedoes are now limited to specialised torpedo hardpoints, only corvettes, cruisers and battleships have hardpoints for them. (same for Point Defense slots)
Swarmer missiles and other similar types now actually have a use, in which they are impossible to be shot down by point defence.

As for being viable, I always use at least some torpedo boats and medium/small missiles to get reliable hits against enemy corvettes and to deal big upfront damage to shielded capital ships. Though I guess now that missiles can be evaded, even they aren't that great against corvettes.

Well, missiles are still going to hit more often than kinetics or lasers because their hit rating is 100% baseline.

At least I think, I don't know really though because I'm not 100% sure what the 'tracking' statistic does on weapons. Larger weapons have lower tracking and lasers have the best tracking. I'm assuming it helps with shorter range accuracy and at countering evasion but that's basically guesswork.

If you're comparing different weapon types, then there's something you've missed.

Before 1.3, Tachyon Lances and Kinetic Artillery were both L-class only long range variations of lasers/railguns.

Now, Kinetics kind of has it's own niche as being the L-class long ranged weapon. (as well as having an XL variation with large penetration.)

Lances now occupy XL-slots on battleships along with Mega Cannons and torpedoes are restricted to torpedo hardpoints.

Unfortunately XL slots aren't that fantastic because overall they deal less damage than two L-slot weapons and the range doesn't really see much use apart from in the encounter battle before the melee starts.
