Let me post all the issues I have with storyshift:
>Chara's characterisation, complete with obligatory guilt tripping about people who interpret their canon self different than the author.
>Asriel's Flowey depth being removed for him for the sake of turning him into a generic cute kid character.
>3/5 of the bosses not actually antagonists, Papyrus is skelemom, Asriel is just playing, Toriel is also mom. There is no dramatic tension. At least in canon, it was just Toriel that had your best interests in mind, and that was fine, because she was the very first boss.
>the plaques in waterfall talking about the persecution of human magician when monsterrs shouldn't give a shit, just to give Chara magic powers and a sob story
>the fact that chara lives in the underground, is a human, and doesn't get attacked while frisk is.

storyshift is cruising almost entirely off goodwill from the Snowdin section when people were interested in the novelty of Chara as an actual character and Asriel not being dead (because this is back when save-the-goat stuff was still in full swing)

then Chara got progressively more whiny and took up more and more of the plot while the rest was clogged by the vague domestic problems of the perfect and lovable goat family

the writer ran out of steam in a really big way after Snowdin and it shows

in the latest update chara's restaurant monologue is about ten times longer, in terms of raw text, than sans at his wordiest, the phone calls mostly consist of them haranguing you for being human, and the backstory is literally rewritten to further justify their angst. it's a complete mess

the problem with the Dreemurrs in storyshift isn't that there's too much of them, it's that there's too much with no identifiable conflict. in the actual game Undyne was out for your soul, Alphys was a conniving emotional wreck, Mettaton was undermining her at every turn, and the shadow of Asgore loomed over everything. in storyshift Toriel is basically just out to hug you really aggressively, Asgore is way more well-adjusted and mostly keeps Undyne in check, and Sans is barely mentioned at all so there's no looming conflict at the end of the story.

basically chara and the dreemurrs combined are constantly pulling storyshift in two opposite directions. the dreemurrs keep trying to make it into a lighter and softer version of undertale and chara's angst keeps shoving it back into tedious edginess

They're edgy, and angsty, and self righteous. They are supposed to be cute and sassy, but unlike Sans' goofiness, that come off as endearing, they just seem smug and smarmy. And their angst is not as subtle as Sans', either, they literally tell you their whole life story in the hotel. Their whole existence seems like one big, long Chara defense squad member ranting about how people interpret their canon self differently than them.

I probably would have stood a chance at liking Storyshift if it wasn't for Chara.
