It's actually a little contrived. Charms were on some sort of tick system (ticks per second, or seconds per tick?), and you could track where on the table you were by the charms you got at the end of the quest. You could use this information to manipulate what charm you got by ending the gathering quest faster or slower, depending on where on the table you wanted the charms to be from. There's probably youtube videos that explain it better.

Where should I be doing postgame grinding in Stories? I've got a shiny new pinecone to get up to par.

I can tell you that he's piss easy with GS. There's always an opening for a charge when he stomps, which often ends up being after his weird bite charge attack. Slash his legs while he's not enraged, and slash his chest when he is. For an easy shot at the chest you can move with him when he's starting up his dragon breath and charge right under him.

They are belong in well defined tiers, each having a set knock back and damage reduction rating.
* SnS is the lowest, with G+1 it gets to GS level, with G+2 it gets to La/GL level.
* GS and unbuffed CB are mid-tier, where G+1 gets it to La/GL level and G+2 gets it to La/GL with G+1.
* La/GL and buffed CB are high tier, and G+ only gets that even higher.

I feel like a huge part of what's wrong with Gathering rooms is that the monster just dies too fuckin fast. It's a snoozefest if everyone waltzes in with a Light & Courage set and the monster just staggers twenty times then falls over. Optimizing your character at endgame is fun, but we don't have anything close to a 140 to be worth optimizing for.

Would a joke weapon meta be fun? Take the garbage-tier silly stuff and hyper number crunch to make it as 'optimal' as possible on a normal, endgame hunt.

Wyvern Egg football.
