I like the idea JSF put out, which implies the bodies are being harvested and burned in Hemwick, however, if you cross it over with Redgraves theory that the coffins are being taken to yahar ghul by the Mensis, burning corpses wouldn't make much sense.

The positioning of the graves in Hemwick had me wondering though.

What if there's a massive grave robbing operation under way in hemwick.

The tombstones are all lined up at the corners, as if they had been stored there, and quite old corpses are lying all over the place.

I wager that mensis has begun graverobbing all the graveyards outside yharnam, or even possibly the labyrinths underneath it.

But then what about the coffins in Yharnam? Well, I suppose the Church is responsible for the dead in yharnam, and they are being taken to Hemwick for actually being burned.

Yeah. Even in tricked mode the split is like .98/.9, and phys is always like 150 points higher than Arcane.

It just pisses me off ...a lot, because, not only do I not want to level past 98, I don't think phys damage when I think about the Moonlight.

But, yeah, there seems to be very little reason not to 25/25 and use Nourishing.

I just really don't want to.

25/50 gets real good use out of the HMLS.

For what it's worth, the moonbeams do 100% of the listed Arc damage. So if you want to be a space laser machine, stack Arc. Landing a fully charged R2 with 25/50 and stacked nourishings (or full Arc setup) does great damage since you hit for 100% of the arc and then whatever the modifier is on the physical swing itself.

With your setup you are better off just using the HMS as a projectile weapon and ignoring anything but tricked-R2's. Using arc only gems and having no STR/SKL means the actual sword swings will be pathetic.

The only way to do a proper HMS build at 98 is to have a whopping 10 vitality. The damage becomes insane, but it requires very heavy investment into 3 stats.

I did a rough estimate of damage testing just now on the werewolves in Isz.

Once with ~+300 phys and ~+100 arc
500 damage Moonbeam
1300 damage Moonbeam + R2
1030 damage L2
~250 or so per swing
~220 untricked, didn't test anything else

Then I tried ~+100 Phys, +250 Arc
700 damage moonbeam
1030 damage R2+Moonbeam
1030 damage L2
~250 per swing
~190 per swing untricked

So that's a quick look at where the distribution of phys/arc goes.
Nourishings are a happy medium for 25/50 but since your str is 16 you'll get better returns on arc gems than on anything else.
A fully connected R2 and L1 combo will do about the same damage, give or take 50-100

(I did 300 more on the phys setup but I also had a total of 50 more AR)

Also, no one can deal with unlocked rolls in this game. If I roll (not dash) away from someone then R1 and 180 the attack by flicking the stick they run into it EVERY SINGLE TIME, often running or attacking as well so I get counter damage bonus.

I beat one guy by doing nothing but roll away from him and reverse attack,

What is it that makes Bloodborne's edge good but other kinds of edge silly?

I feel like Bloodborne's edge is appropriate and makes plenty of sense. It's not edgy for the sake of being cool, dark, and mysterious. The "edge" is well supported by the lore and Lovecraftian inspiration.

The game also has amazing art and sound direction, and the "edginess" is actually very well built upon. It never feels out of place because of its consistency.

It's not just an edgelord's wet dream but also has a lovecraft like great one pantheon and people like Djura or the fact that you can't save Gas' daughter to slow your edgemeter down. The general style is also elegant, the game may have loads of blood but you can't cut of limps for example. It's art, not some deviantart tier bullshit.

Bear with me here.

Edgy is what 'kids' (and I'll use kids for my explanation, but it can mean teens or even dumbasses in their mid 20s or 30s) think is dark, or mature, or serious, but in reality is wholly divorced from those concepts. Edginess is shallow maturity. Edginess is a result of a bunch of things and is a pretty modern concept, I think. It starts big time with 90s comics, when comics were becoming a more adult medium after the 80s made Killing Joke, Watchmen, that kind of stuff, and underground comics exploded and Image Comics exploded on the market and was legitimately novel and new for the time. Cable, Spawn, The Darkness, big dudes with big weapons killing other big guys with big weapons. Same thing happened to videogames when we got Doom in '93 and videogames got huge and more people with more ideas got involved and medium matured. Edginess is a 90s reaction to the excessive heroism and over the top-ness of the 80s. It's also part of a weird mindset that still exists (especially in fantasy nowadays) where darker and grittier = more realistic and more realistic = better. It's all part of a reaction to previous things.

Bloodborne isn't edgy. Bloodborne is stylized, and consistently so. All those long dark trench coats and wide brimmed hats, all inspired by real world fashion from the 18th and 19th centuries, look up Georgian and Edwardian frock coats and tricorns, it's all real fashion once worn by real people, and the world of Bloodborne is meant to directly mirror those periods. All this blood and horror and death are elements found in its inspirational material from Gothic horror novels of the early to mid 1800s and the cosmic horror of Lovecraft, and again, is all tonally consistent with the setting, it's not a haphazard mess of clashing ideas, none of it is ever in your face about what it is. It simply is.

I miss bloodborne being the active game, it was so much better than dark souls 3, atmosphere wise and everything, and then DLC hit and everything got 100 times better. Dark Souls 3 was a massive let down compared to bloodborne.

It's all about attitude. The trench coats all fit the aesthetic of the setting and aren't some dark unique thing but commonplace. Blood is treated like an everyday thing. The characters who aren't silent enemies are largely pretty decent people; Eileen's job is to hunt and kill others but she offers advice and gives you a gift on meeting you and thanks you for helping her, Alfred (whose goal is finishing off a genocide) is a fukken bro, and even Gascoigne whose gone completely nuts had a wife and daughter and by all accounts was a good man before it all, they're not just all dark and brooding dickheads. Things like jellied fetuses tie into all the themes and plots of the game, and just like the fucked up enemies they all serve a specific purpose rather than just being random horrible shit for the sake of random horrible shit.

It is a fine line between something being dark and just plain edgy, and Bloodborne definitely walks that line, but for the most part it stays in the good side of it. And the parts that slip into being edge are definitely made fun of.

yes yes I know they are called Great Ones, but the game is very liberal with the term Great Ones, Ebrietas, Kos, the Moon Presence, all specimen decleared Great Ones at some point, but after a closer look do tend to appear more as Kin than actual Great Ones, Odeon being the only one so far actually having the characteristics of an ascended great one.

Ebrietas appears to be a celestial child, Kos appears to be a sapient mix akin to ebrietas, the Moon Presence remains elusive but doesn't really strike me as what the Scholars had in mind with enlightenment and great ones.

Now the Amygdalae are the odd ones.

Despite being clearly present all around Yharnam, they don't seem to be beckoned by anyone, they don't seem to be considered viable for reproduction or as divine as even Ebrietas or Kos.

And the most interesting point is, they seem to have an agenda, and loyalties. They appear to me as if assisting and supporting the School of Mensis, they are depicted as guardians in the grand cathedral, and especially the stone one in the Hypogean Gaol seems to be some kind of Sage or Inspirational figure, like a saint or hero, with lesser half-celestials surroundig it in prayer like poses.

Yet the presence of the One Reborn implies the Amygdalae were neither the Great Ones the Mensis wanted, nor, if my theory proves to have merit, be the absolute goal of a mensis member.

The six fingers are driving me crazy, it seems to be the key to this, celestial emmisaries also have six fingers, amygdalae have six fingers on each hand.

Also the heads, bloated, as if both the choir and the mensis were trying to achieve the same thing with different means.

I'm heavily propping this theory on the brain of mensis, a brain lined with eyes, but without focus it went out of control, perhaps that's where the cages came into the mix, to focus the efforts.

There is one Amygdala, which is whom we fight in Nightmare Frontier/Chalice Dungeons. We can surmise this because Patches gets upset at you killing his god when you kill Amygdala and he runs away to find a new god in the Chalice Dungeons, despite there being loads of the (for lack of any other name) Lesser Amygdalae still around Yharnam.

The Lesser Amygdalae are likely Amygdala's worshippers who ascend to that state; Patches and the apostle's in the Nightmare of Mensis are clearly evolving into something, and have eight limbs.

Are you fucking high? The entire situation in Yharnam is because of two things, the blood and the moon. The full moon rises, those who imbibe the blood go insane or become beasts. The blood moon descends and everything is turned up to eleven. The moon is the single most powerful and influential entity we witness in-game, and even before we arrived it had countless hunters doing its bidding, and even before the dream was conceived it was playing this game (you think Ludwig being the leader of the hunters and listening to his, "Guiding Moonlight," isn't connected to it?).

Moon Presence is provably the most powerful Great One we're aware of, even if the boss battle itself didn't quite reflect this. The only possible contender is Oedon if you subscribe to the theory that Oedon lives in and is the old blood which is fucking retarded.

The Moon Presence can control reality and mortal minds, that's not too uncommon, seeing how amygdalas can teleport you all over the place, and Odeon just created beings within hours, is just as impressive.

There's also the problems of continuity, we do not know what actually caused the situation in yharnam, wether it was the mensis ritual, or the moon presence beckoning (which probably happened before Ludwig created the church hunters) The Moon Presence need not be the cause of it.

But that's a discussion of today, the Moon Presence's level of greatness does not directly influence the status of the Amygdala, but what I'm implying is, that even if something is proclaimed a great one in the game initially, it's not a given that will stay true under detailed scrutiny.

The Blood Moon never struck me as the cause of any events in Yharnam, it only ever seemed to me as an indicator of truth.

When you destroy Rom, it is never implied you caused anything, or any time passed, but that the events already unfolding, or the actual state of events, is revealed to you the player.

Anything previously hidden becomes visible at that point, and with how the insight works, things you can't percieve, can't affect you, except the Amygdalas. But you do see them when they affect you.

This too, is a theory for another day, but I think the "Waking World" is not actual real world yharnam, it is the version closest to the real world, but still another layer in the dream realms.

The Game World itself does not support it, my theory is that Yharnam is eternally trapped in a cycle reliving the night before the mensis ritual, while also being after the mensis ritual simultaneously.

What we do matters to us and the characters in our playthrough, much like the blood moon reveals the true situation to us, it also reveals it to the "sane" NPCs trapped on our instance, making them mad.

Yharnam Ends in our Night. I think what we do is preenting Yharnam from ending, for us.

Besides, it's fairly obvious the Mensis Ritual is the cause of the Eldritch abominations in Yharnam, coinciding with the descent of the Blood Moon, which represents the merging of the happenings in the cosmos with Yharnam.

No, the "Waking World" is not actual real world Yharnam, but that's because there is no one actual real world Yharnam. The game is Lovecraftian: "worlds" are multi-layered, and not even stacked on top of one another. They're connected in a disjointed, awkward fashion, where parts of the "Nightmare" are embedded into parts of the "real world", chunks of which can be transported to any of the other realms. In Lovecraft lore, Dreamlands are just as real as any other plane, and in fact the consciousness of a human being is moved to the Dreamland every time he or she dreams.

You're both half-right about Rom. Killing him reveals the unseen, but doesn't explicitly cause everything that happens after.

For example, insight (eyes on the inside) reveal the truth of the Amygdalas infesting Yharnam, just as killing Rom will. However, in terms of game progression, Rom's death triggers the appearance blood moon, but it was always there, and as it descents, the line between man and beast blurs. Again, this is a linear effect, and killing Rom doesn't worsen anything that wasn't already happening.

Breeding an army of oversized Autismos obviously didn't achieve anything, and perhaps even caused many Mensis members to be trapped in the Nightmare instead.

The One Reborn and Kos worship then would be an obvious change of direction, I'm still not sure what the One Reborn does, or if it is a Mensis Project at all, but Kos is probably the Mensis attempt of achieving true ascendency through Kos' ways.

Now here's where things get interesting. There is no fake Iosefka. She has a split personality, shown by the change in her voice. This opens up another possibility: If Annalise is imprisoned behind an illusion, how did she get a letter out to be delivered? And that's why I believe that Iosefka is also Annalise herself, because who else would be able to do it?

And then we add to the mix that Logarius is standing guard for his love, Annalise, who is Iosefka. But if Iosefka, who is Annalise, got out of the illusion, it could mean only one thing: Logarius is also Annalise, who is also Iosefka.

I take it "real world Yharnam" goes along with the idea that the game is just a nightmare and once the hunter wakes up, he or she is back in the real world and the nightmare wasn't real or true in any way, just a bad dream.
