Above is a pastebin of games you can play while waiting for SC and E:D to become playable.

It would become the meta before it's even out. Or alternatively, if each slot can hold 2 gladiators, have 6 gladiators and 12 m50s. Now you can harass any fighters and also fuck up medium-large ships.

It wouldn't be six slots, each slot is one ship layout example. Bigger ships would need bigger tools, ammos and spare parts in the hangar therefore reducing the number of ships you can put in one hangar even if they fit.

All the ships in SC seem to have all this unnecessary shit hanging off of them, also most of them suffer from "space plane" design.

The ships in Elite have a much more sleek design that makes more sense. They look more believable.

SC ships look like somebody just took a bunch of different plane wings and smushed them together to make some kind of ugly space hulk.

I'd argue that SC ships look like 50's sci fi, space planes with rocket pods and everything needs to be manned, while ED ships look like 80's sci fi, space shuttles which still have windows but there's remotely operated equipment.

The main thing I like about ED is that the thrusters are inside the hulls, which means that the ships can be maintained while out in space. Thrusters in engine pods hanging off wings means the ships need to land somewhere and have a spaceport maintenace crew fix it.
>>
>>153753810
You could also EVA fix.
>>
>>153753691
Aerodynamic shapes like triangles are a better design for doing something like entering a planets atmosphere.

Half the ships in SC would Blow up/Burn up if they tried Reentry because they have all these unnecessary extra wings and doodad shit hanging off them in every direction, slowing them down and causing drag.

You can't blame the people who DDoS the voting page so that the gay pigeon ship won, for the Avenger looking like a triangular penguin. Sorry, but as bad as the gay pigeon is, you can't blame it for that.

And as for re-used assets for a ship that pumps out military designs, that's a non-argument. I have absolutely zero problem with retalliators and buccaneers (or whatever) having re-used assets, i.e. using the same style guide.

>Keep in mind every ship with engineered pulse lasers had to give him tea.
That reminds me how I hate the lack of economic simulation in ED, goods are only available at the station producing them, if that.
Look at CMM Composites, only available at planetside factories, now CMM Composites should be cheap at the factory that produces them, 25-50% more expensive in the stations that in that system, and every arbitrary distance the price doubles until it's 10x-100x the price to buy a CMM Composite. Even Sothis Newhome station 400ly from the civilization bubble should have /some/ Magnetic Emitter Coils in it, even if it's in the station's maintenance storage bay or in some guy's private storage locker. So there'd be 2-5 tons or something in the commodity market for 1million a ton, reprisenting the player shoving a truck worth of cash for them. More or less the equivalent of the player creating their own missions "5 tons of Magnetic Emitter Coils for 5 millioncr, in 25 minutes, peddler trade rank required."

they could make that shit in the game when it releases, anon. Apparently that crashed starfarer scene was made in a single day per RtV with the guy who did it. It gives more power to organized players to influence the game, thus creating situations where it's more than just GMs and NPCs driving the action. It forces players to do shit, and then others have to react to it. To continue with the theme, if this happened on a lawless planet that was basically Mad Max in nature, it would be us to our own devices to do whatever the fuck we wanted to.

EVE? That's literally the only reason the game still exists. Giving players the ability to achieve and fight for something great like a location or an "economic node" of sorts makes us actually care about doing those things since we can have a form of attachment to them rather than being cogs in an NPC machine with the same, unchanging shit being thrown at us that has no effect on our gameplay whatsoever.

Those are just the concept models.

Also, it takes a whole lot more to get a ship flight ready than a 3D model, even if the 3D model is the finished one. Not only that, but these ships are specifically made for mass cargo transportation, so it wouldn't make sense to make a ship that can't even function properly without the game mechanic it relies on.

Mod tools and private servers are different in scope from a singleplayer game. Sure, you can go give yourself a server, but you'll have to continue downloading the regular updates CIG will be putting out for the Persistent Universe in order to get the new stuff they're going to be stuffing in the game. Back in the X series, X3:TC X3:AP, tourism contracts had the player fly to differnt star systems with bonuses for getting close to interesting things like asteroids or planets or going through nebulas, penalites for getting into combat or using turbo boost. Had to fly back to the launch point to unload the passengers and get paid.

It also had "luxury" passenger missions that were A to B but required doing in an actual passenger ship and had very tight deadlines, like executive will pay millions to be flown a dozen systems away in a luxury liner and he needs to get there in 20 minutes.

The final type were just courier missions that required passenger life support and could be done in a freighter, just get from A to B. Paid more than regular courier missions but weren't any different beyond the life support requirement.

Clearly p2w.

Combat aside, when it comes to p2w for what SC will eventually be, it's hard to say something is p2w when they have different roles, so some ships will be better at those roles than others, and those ships have larger upgrades that are harder to manage and pay for, like Prospect - Orion, or Hull A - Hull B. In ED, you literally cannot even compete when someone else has engineers so it forces you to either buy engineers to get rekt.

Fucking hell. How fucking poor are you? I make $8 an hour at a god damn pizza hut and have an x52, just bought a new desk so I can use the HOTAS more comfortably, and I'm also saving up for a 1080. After that, Vive.

As far as:

>Go fuck yourself kid. This is an expansion pack.

Horizons gives you:

>Player customization
>Ship launched fighters
>AI partners
>Landing on non-atmospheric planets
>more ships
>Module mods.
>Surface mining
>Surface bases.

Basiclly, there's a shit load of stuff in the expancion.

You're so fucking dense that you can't understand how big this is. It's not traditional, meaning there's no new zones/story like traditional MMOs. That's why you tiny shit stick of a brain thinks you're getting ripped off.

None of this is in the game. Engineers is pay 2 win RNG garbage. Surface mining? Is this supposed to be good content? Surface bases were cool for a whole five minutes before I stopped giving a fuck about them. The SRV allegedly needs to be driven backwards just so it's not shit.

We have to get to the point those things are in the game first. If you're going to do an expansion pack to an already released game, you can't just package all your old promises during development as a "new" thing. That's not how it works, or should work.

The FDL is in need of some serious QoL buffs

There's an old argument in the Homeworld manual on whether or not a core of larger ships with massive fighter cover or a mass of capital ships with a little bit of fighter protection is better. It's a similar idea, and I actually fancy the thought experiment:

Which is better: A lot of smaller ships with lesser crew requirements per, so you can make significantly more of them in a shorter time and staff them, or humongous ships with massive crew requirement and armaments but significantly less of them?

I've always wanted to join some group of dedicated pilots who wish to go into Vanduul space and hunt them down, and knowing that it's only a little larger than the Idris makes me believe that it won't be impossible to destroy.

Not that guy, but it's a misunderstanding of what's going on in the game lore. Terra is trying to supplant Earth as the center of humanity. Thus, they named themselves what amounts to "Earth II, the Earthening" and started advocating to be the center of the UEE. They're trying to replace Earth in the minds of the people, so they name themselves the same thing and call it a day to cement their reputation.

Right but they didn't call it Earth II, they just called it Earth. In many different languages. And it had that name BEFORE it became a new political centre to be like a second Earth.

Nova Terra would've been a better name, that would've pushed the Rome thing more, or literally anything that isn't both a freehand term for Earth and the actual word for Earth in multiple languages. Just zero thought went into it.

Wtf are the stars next to the boost and after burner? How do I activate them?

Sometimes I press it once or mutiple times and nothing happens, other times when I turn off the thrusters and turn them back on i shoot forward like a fucking rocket.

>>
>>153786601
Get the base game when it's on a sale. It's alright for 15-30.-

You'll get a few hours out of it and then it just becomes a sort of grind for newer parts and ships that feel samey. But it's fun just for a bit of bounty hunting every now and then.

It's a special mix of lazy and confusing, which is why it is so irritating. Plenty of systems just use the naming convention "Latin word for system's theme" to make them sound sci fi and exotic, except they did this one without thinking.

It's not the same as colonial towns being named after home towns, it's more like the USA being called "Britain".

So I just checked the wiki and the full name of the system actually seems to be Terra Nova, while the planet's official name is Terra III, it's just that noone can be bothered to use the full name and also to push the fact that Terra III is trying to take Earth's place as the center of the empire.
>>
>>153787806
Most in-universe lores stories refer to Terra as "Terra Prime", even when not refering to the city but the planet it's self.

Someone earlier mentioned that skins and an editor for them would be part of SC.

Personally I just hope we get to edit some texture files and templates as well.
>>
>>153787993
In-game colour customization is just going to be a ingame cost going to a fancy paint station to decorate your ship.

The vanity "Skins" for sale on the website are more accurately just decals and logos.
>>
>>153787993
AFAIK basic ship customization (ship split up into parts, pick colours for each part) is going to be a thing.
>>
>>153788019
Exactly, it's not called New Earth, or even Nova Terra, it is just Terra. Prime is the capital city of the planet Terra.
>>
>>153787993
0.

If they do follow their word and not sell pledge ships after launch, I guarantee they will have a metric fuckload of cosmetic items to sell for money, like skins specifically.

It'd make sense for them to have people pay real money to have something like their org logo on their ship, and maybe even more money for a full ship skin, and possibly "premium" for a unique, custom skin. I think I'm turning jewish.

I'd like the ability to just mod my own ship so I can see whatever I want to. But the best option would be something like APB: Reloaded where you can put all sorts of decorations and mods on your ship and everyone can see them.

They could have given us an Idris then, at least that one is designed for combat which is kinda the only thing you can do right now. Plus it's bigger and would have also shown how landing inside other ships would work.

War Thunder does this, however only you can see the edited texture. It would be a substantial amount of files being uploaded to CIG servers if they allowed edited ship textures to be visible by everyone.
>>
>>153788838
>given us the Idris

U fkin wot. They're saving that for S42 since it's like the main ship you're on, and it also has a lot of shit that probably isn't ready since it's like 10x as much ship and stuff as some small tanker.

I also doubt that, with the current old CryEngine netcode, we'd be able to do anything with it in a multiplayer setting. We also don't have a high enough playercount or even NPCs to fulfill the spots it needs for full effectiveness or general use.

>>
>>153788348

Nah, they have always promised that everything sold for real money will be available in game. Even all of the models and posters and flair items now will be in the universe to buy if you can find them.

They don't need to sell exclusive items to make money. First of all there are "only" one million backers, this is a lot for an early project but a long way short of what a AAA game will normally want to sell. If the retail price is $60 and the game is actually good, then there will be hundreds of millions in revenue after launch.

They are also going to sell limited amounts UEC, this is how they will generate income from the player base. The idea behind this is that it allows people who play casually to have some money and stay interested in the game.

They are also going to sell single-player expansions to SQ42.

If I was CIG, I'd do all that, but I'd also sell at the very least, organizational tags to the largest orgs (20k players+ (I assume many more people are going to join orgs when they become fun and relevant) and have each individual pilot pay something for it on their ship.

I say this because I'm holding onto the promise of major SC expansions post release with leftover money, so if they made 120mil off of 2 mil people buying the game after launch, they'd be able to keep all of their studios and make the most impressive expansions to have ever graced this world and maybe be able to create their own custom engine completely as a big FUCK YOU to Cyrtek which held back development with infinite refactors

They wanted him to move to LA with the other creative directors but he preferred to stay in Austin. As far as we know he left on good terms with CIG, but was actually banned from the forums later for advertising his new company.

I have nothing at all against the guy but it seems like the restructuring really helped CIG and that the Austin studio is working really well under Zurovek.

>>
>>153791632

I'd say that a large portion of traditional space-sim fans have got a pledge, but there will be plenty of holdouts who are waiting for bullet-proof evidence of it getting finished.

Then there are the people who will play anything with their friends, maybe they are stuck on WoW or EVE or whatever else: one space-sim fan in the group gets it and then they'll all get it to play together once it is actually playable.

Then there are the people, maybe at the younger end, who have probably never played a real space game and want to try it.

There are people who will buy the package just for SQ42. There are people who will play whatever is popular or new.

If SC lives up to a good chunk of expectations then I would expect it to sell at least 2 million units within 12 months of release.

One thing they're excited to be able to do is to build and release ships straight into the game post-release, with new models of all the ships coming out every few years and the older models becoming "classis" like old cars.

Only thing they've considered doing as a paid expansion is a full Xi'an/Vandul SQ42-esque campaign that when you finish let's you play in the PU as a character of that race. But if this is happening, it's faaaaaaaaaar away.

Big update to HUD and MFDs, a new map for fighting, a new track for racing (asteroids I think?).

Looking at the data scrapes for 2.5 I think Pirate Swarm is quite likely. Lots of bug fixes of course, hopefully some improvements to the party and matchmaking systems.

Maybe a solid balance pass if we are lucky. On new Vanduul ships however I think that they might add the Blade at some point, but they want to keep all of the bigger ones a surprise for SQ42. Also I bet the AI is nowhere near ready to fly multi-crew ships.

The Xi'an and Banu withheld information on them until they fucked the UEE, and apparently the Banu sometimes trade with them. The Xi'an are also apparently in a holy war with some alien race called the Kr'thak or something and they won't tell the UEE anything about it. I think the UEE originally was attacked because we decided to build shit on a system they declared theres hundreds of years before but periodically checked on.
>>

>Compared to 1.3 and even the pre-1.0 game the current flight mechanics are smoother but slower.

Well they're objectively not slower, m8.

Back in v0.8 the Hornet's top speed was 100m/s, which is a cap in any direction including strafing.

They are not bordering with Vanduul and they prefer not to get involved with the UEE/Vanduul conflict too much. Xi'an are warring with some other alien race that they try hard to keep from contacting UEE. Banu are neutral and just want to trade. There is also Tevarin race, which are like space indians. UEE got into their star syster, fucked them up and forced them into reservations under Messer rule. They gradually integrated, but there is still growing underground rebellion terrorist movement.

Nothing puts me in more of a worse mood than thinking to what ships I own in this game.

I have a gladius game package and a Caterpillar + dual dragonfly combo.

The gladius is so unfun to fly and so weak, and the caterpillar isnt even out despite a bunch of ships being concepted AFTER it now being flight ready.

The only solution I see is to melt the gladius package, upgrade the caterpillar to a Carrack for the extra $10-20, but then I'm sans game package and have to spend another $60.

I'm so frustrated over having picked the Gladius early on. I should have stuck with my Weekend Warrior package and had the super hornet + game package and just been set with that.

I'd say hold on to the Caterpillar, it is shaping up to be absolutely gorgeous.

As for the Gladius it flies like a demon in 2.5 but it is still woefully under-gunned. Maybe switch that to a Buccaneer or a regular Hornet, or even a Sabre if you want the very best fighter.

3 x S3 would put it on the same level as a Hornet but as a smaller, faster target. It would have to be fairly weak to compensate as the Gladius is supposed to be the near-obsolete Light Fighter.

Personally I would give it the double nose mount in the the original concept and give it 4 x S2 guns overall, or alternatively give it dual S2 guns on each wing for 5 x S2 total. It could keep its nice missile loadout and get a bit of a buff to toughness as well.

This would keep it lighter than the Hornet, but would make it a genuinely dangerous dogfighter.

Speaking very vaguely the smaller weapons have have higher projectile velocities, but the larger weapons have longer range.

>>
>>153799421
>but the larger weapons have longer range.

Technically they do, but in practice smaller weapons can hit further out than larger ones. The projectiles might have a longer lifetime, but they're moving slow enough that you can dodge them far more easily. Ergo you need to wait until people are closer.

I would choose 5 x S2 over 3 x S3 regardless of if they were fixed or gimballed. Against smaller targets (and even larger ones really) you end up hitting more, further out, and keeping up damage more easily.

Sabre- 4xS3 guns, 6xS2 missiles. Supposedly has some sort of radar reduction feature that's not in game yet.

Wrong. There's 6 guns in total, and it's stupid how the nose mount only allows a size 1 and a size 2 meaning they aren't symmetrical.

You can rent a gun to put on the nose. You can also rent bigger guns for the wings if you want. Though you'll have to remove the gimbals for that. Also you can rent better missiles, since stock ones are fucking terrible. Can't change out the shield right now though.

Best load out for the hornet in my opinion is 3x S2 Tarantulas for gimbal loadout, or 3x S3 Broadswords for a fixed loadout.

Why would I remove 2 gimballed repeaters in favor of 1 gun I can't aim as well? Not sensible to me. I may give it a try when the game becomes more fun and less buggy, though.
>>
>>153802006

Looks kind of like something H.R. Giger would come up with, only with less creepy sex.
>>

I imagine all the different environment are why it takes so long to design AI for SQ42. It must function equally well in regular gravity, no gravity, low gravity, pilot ships, FPS combat, navigate in all 3 dimensions equally well, shit must be complicated as fuck.

S2 Tarantulas. Why can't any other S2 compete?
>>
>>153802298
>Why would I remove 2 gimballed repeaters in favor of 1 gun I can't aim as well?

From a damage standpoint, that single S3 is doing ~122.7% of the damage of both those S1s.
>>
>>153802298
Because the nose turret is fragile as fuck. If you're using a stick, a single S3 gun is > 2xS1 guns And if you're using a mouse it's easier to have all S2 guns than try to pair different size guns together.

1x size 1
1x size 2
Both gimballed

Now what is the % difference? You can't tell me how much damage I'd be doing if my hit chance will drastically increase with gimbal. I'll have literally 6 weapons firing at the pip, instead of trying to aim my ship towards it at the same time.
>>
>>153802719
just lock all your gimbals
>>
>>153802464

In a word... not really The Apoc mass drivers also work but with their slow rate of fire you need to be much more careful about aiming

Isn't that from Halo Reach?

If you really can attach 1xS1, 1xS2 to the chin turret, thats a bug. Its meant to be 2xS1.

I mean the Buccaneer does too, hell you could say the Apollo from Freespace 1 looks like it too.
>>
>>153804036
as someone who's looking at these two things for the first time, I don't really see the resemblence.

The halo ship has a more Black Bird look, with the forward facing wings all the way in the back there, but the SC ship has the wings in the center, and look like they're variable-sweep wings. The fuselage of the ship also really undulates as you go across it, while the SC ship is flat. Not even mentioning the completely different placement and look of the engines (I do really like the split look of the SC one, but I really like engines being far out on the Halo one). The SC ship is also much flatter nosed, it's not nearly as long

They really look nothing alike, why do people say they do?
>>
>>153804036
I think the Jackal from IW looks more like the Sabre. It even has the retracting wings and Aegis bubble cockpit
>>
>>153804410

I'm not the first one to draw that comparison? Sorry.
They share some similarities and have the same name, is what I meant. I'm not saying it's a rip-off or anything.

I also like how the CoD people had the sense to describe how their ships' gimbals work to stop the "muh WWII fighters!" crowd from bitching about how it's too videogame-y and not realistic.

I really wish Infinite Warfare wasn't a CoD game so it would have a chance of being good.

probably going for a 'the love child of a F-22 and F-117' design. And then they added retracting wings because game designers don't understand that those have been obsolete for over 20 fucking years.
>>
new thread when
>>
>>153805389
F-117 works because it isn't really intended to do much manouvering or high AOA work.

In a fighter its retarded, especially one that is meant to exit the atmosphere, which implies extreme AOA.
>>
>>153805685
As far as I understand, with F-117 Lockheed developed radar dissipating shape first, and then attempted to make it fly with dubious results.
>>
>>153805329
one of the longest threads on SC's forums is people butthurt about how gimbals allow a 30 dollar mouse to compete with their three hundred HOTAS set up and that gimbals are the worst game decision the developers ever made, how it's way more realistic for 20 ton ship in the year 29XX to waste fuel moving the entire ship around to aim instead of sticking it's guns on a motorized ball joint, and so on.
>>
>>153805953
Thats got little to do with realism and more to do with how shitty it makes gameplay.
>>
>>153805389
>retracting wings
>Obsolete

Eh? You gotta store the plane somehow.
>>
>>153805953
Did they ever think of, maybe learning to be more maneuverable, since HOTAS lends itself better for it? Isn't the whole point of HOTAS not to automatically be better, but the IMMERSION and fun factor? that's why I bought it, at least.
>>
>>153806189
I'm assuming he means variable sweep wings.

Naval fighters just have the wings fold upwards in half, rather than moving the whole wing geometry.

The former is extremely expensive and hard to maintain. The latter is just a hinge.
>>
>>153806189
Those aren't the same things though. Wings that retracted and expanded during flight were a concept from 70s/80s fighter plane design. They were used because at the time wide wings might rip off at super sonic speeds, Eventually this problem was fixed and that's why you don't see any ship from the last 30 years using the concept. But the F-14 is iconic, so game developers love using it anyway.

Planes with fold up wings just have locking joints on the wings so that ground crews can fold them to store the plane.
>>
>>153753162
the funny thing is that spaceships can actually land on water and used as naval ships (given you have propellers) because they are lighter than water and watertight
>>
>>153806725
I wasn't aware that planes had retractable/expandable wings during flight in the past. Just assumed it was for storage purposes in these designs.
>>
>>153806242
Nope. A lot of them bought super expensive high end HOTAS to have an advantage over the poor peasants using a 30 dollar Logitech stick with cheap, inaccurate chinese potentiometers.

Letting mouse users get the better of them make them look like suckers who wasted money

I like player interaction and contextual pvp but I don't like to open myself up to people who just run kill squads for no reason but for the sport of it when I'm in something that sucks for pvp

What do? I like SC and ED and I'm speaking generally here
