Even after killing the crew and engines, the cargo would still be inside the ship. Shooting the ship's hull itself to make a big enough hole would probably destroy the cargo.

These do make sense, the limpet drills a hole into the ship and extracts a cargo container. If space legs ever become a thing for ED, I could see shooting out the cockpit and then boarding the ship to release the cargo.

As for heat causing a cargo hatch to malfunction and cargo leaking out, I'd have made it so heat itself can destroy cargo. Hard to destroy 200 tons of platinum but 200 tons of liquid hydrogen canisters will burst if it gets too hot.

How will SC deal with piracy? Disable the ship, board it and hand-haul the crates to your ship?

Given that nothing is final who knows. Issue with the 350R is that it has all the excess space that's unusable compared to the other 300s.

If they were gonna remove the cargo space entirely they could've just made the cockpit sleaker alltogether instead of just adding another engine to the 300 frame.

I don't really mind either, but I just want to up this Argo to an M50.

He's partially right in that balance is a tricky equation and I doubt there are many examples of it done right. Still, I think Star Citizen's ships are better suited to a myriad of roles than, for instance, ED.

There will always be ships that do better at a certain task than others, but I think once we get mining, trade, and bounty hunting in we'll see a lot more utility for ships of all stripes and kinds, even ships like the poor Cutlass or Reliant, which both suffer from the same problem.

We live in a material world, not idealistic one. Developers are like "we balance this, we balance that, now all seems to work just fine". Then they give it away to the public, and in N time it all goes to shit.

Its a MMO game, thus, there are lots of people. Not matter how hard you try, other players break the balance even of your solo play. You go explore on your Terrapin - say hi to pvp-scholars who would just group up in order to grack open that flying garbage can, no differnce given between you trying to stick some role or just thriving to survive.

As long as we dont have a released game with a big persistent universe, we wouldnt get even a slight amount of a real balance. Fighter would have broken stats, trader ships would have too small/too much amount for cargo, etc, etc.

Oh... Given that Terrapin is a front-line explorer ship, what should you do? Go out there and explore, in the most dangerous areas, since that's what your ship is designed for. When you will try to explore, you will be terminated by other players just for reasons. Because the design, the idea of this ship is a very hard one to be balanced. If they cant make AC - place for one-seat fighters - a good place without a dominance from Sabres and something like that, how can we speak about final state balance? That's why you need a good pilot. For all the arguments about turrets in SC the #1 problem is actually shitty pilots.

An attentive pilot would put the gunners in a position to do damage. Shitty ones fly around like they're in a M50. Makes me mad. Not to pat my own ass but I can take a Constellation with two gunners and a shield operator all the way through the ICC missions.

Weapons have max ranges. 3-4KM depending. More if engineer modded for long range but nobody does that because the range is meaningless if you can't actually hit the target 5-6KM out or if they drop off your sensors.

Boost immediately, even if you're spinning. You're a harder target to hit while tumbling away and the boost helps your ship reorient itself.

I used to run one beam and one cannon before large multis were a thing. Used the beam to burn down shields and then sniped powerplants with the cannon, supplemented by the beam as WEP cap allowed. The multicannon would probably be more satisfying to use now though.

The Python's better at pretty much everything except jump range, but it's a big difference in jump range. If that's the main reason you like the Asp, stick with it. Otherwise you're probably gonna like the Python more.

Alternatively save up more money and keep both. Just be aware that a stock Python is garbage and takes tens of millions to start getting good. Maxes out well over 100m.

Is so, Turret is usable on the large hardpoints.

I advise two turreted beam lasers on the medium hardpoints and three gimballed multicannons on the large if you're looking for out-right damage. Reverse this setup for a more "I'm going to shoot you, and I will never stop shooting you" setup. Just keep in mind that Turrets do shit for damage unless their tracking works 100%. (Ships with chaff are hell)

If you're in ANY ship other than an Anaconda, Cutter, or Python, turrets just don't do enough DPS to be justified.

If you haven't decided what you like to do get a cobra mk3, it's multirole. Actually at 600k cr you might want to look at the adder, which is better in every way to the sidewinder. Viper is a good dedicated LIGHT combat ship with terrible jump range.

The Viper is purely a fighter, but the best fighter in the price range.
The Cobra is certainly capable of fighting but is more rounded, with a longer jump range and more room for whatever internals you want.
If you're going to hang out in one general area and focus on bounty hunting, get a Viper. If you prefer to do some trading or just cruise around taking missions as you go, you want a Cobra.

I actually read most of this.

tl;dr:

It starts off as a semi-interesting piece about the history of Wing Commander, Freelancer and the Wing Commander movie, and how the latter two were pretty much disasters.

However the article is continually stretching to blame CR personally for everything that went wrong. It is honestly not hard to imagine CR being difficult to work with, but this article is a hit piece, and it becomes very clear as it moves onto Star Citizen.

After a brief overview it rapidly descends into discarding and disparaging all of the work CIG have done on SC. It gets a lot of facts wrong about the early stages, such as how and why the scope of the project expanded.

It is inconsistent and hypocritical: it attacks CIG for the early community shows which offered no insight at all into development, and also attacks CIG for doing interviews with programmers and artists who could otherwise be working on the game.

It attacks CIG for the volume of media they publish on the website. It attacks CIG for having a website that is a shop. It attacks CIG for hiring former Crytek employees: accusing them of "poaching" without acknowledging that Crytek has was in financial meltdown in 2014 with missed wages, massive layoffs and the UK studio being closed completely.

The article is pushing a several lines that everyone has heard before: "SC is technically impossible", "SC is financially impossible", "CR is a megalomaniac who will drive everyone out", "CR is a crook who never intended to deliver".

In the end however this article doesn't go anywhere. There is no big revelation of criminal conspiracy, there is no evidence for any of the interesting claims, there is quite simply nothing in this article that is new. It is composed entirely of regurgitated claims from the Escapist article a while back.

I haven't even seen the Polaris but it will certainly be a fan favorite as a cheaper "capital" (it's really sub-capital) for their little fleets, so it could be a command ship that isn't as huge and retarded to use as the Idris or Javelin while having more maneuverability at the cost of not being as powerful, and possibly being torpedo bait.

I'm also a fan of small-but-large military vessels, though I doubt I'll even consider buying one.

An unengineered Corvette still wrecks house when all guns can be brought to bear. I have an engineered Corvette with standard drives (5000ly to unlock fuck me) and I just have to get crafty with boosting and flipping FA off to nail tougher NPCs.

If you are just looking for fighters then this guy >>153749510 has got it. For more of a split between fighting and doing some other stuff I would say that you want a Hornet and a Cutlass.

>Both are good value compared to other ships
>Both very modular for other jobs
>Can both carry at least a bit of cargo
>Cutlass can be operated with 1, 2 or 3 players
>Cutlass has room for passengers

With these ships together you can do anything to some extent but the focus is still on fighting.

The Hornet is getting at least some work done to it and the Cutlass is getting a complete remodel, so don't let the shitty interior of that one put you off.

It would be nice if we had a pocket carrier able to carry 3 up-to-Avenger-sized ships. Something with mediocre weaponry and manoeuvrability but some decent armor to protect the three ships.

Snub fighters are decent, in particular when combined with the ship they launch from. The smaller the ship the more they are dependant upon actual skill though, or you will just get eaten up by better players.

Also everyone seems to forget that 90% of your encounters will always be with NPCs.

Fighting.

The Sabre is for fighting, or at the very most it is for sneaking up real close and then fighting.

It has no utility, no flexibility, no capacity for anything other than fighting.

It is the best pure fighter in the game, and will probably get better as the stealth and detection mechanics come into play.
