If it doesn't have a general, post it here; just don't get upset about sharing. If it DOES have a general, please go. We don't need your baggage.
Above is a pastebin of games you can play while waiting for SC and E:D to become playable.

What's CIG's lore justifications for sweep wings? I've always been more of a style > realism guy anyway, so I love the look, but I'm always interested in seeing how they justify things.

Well, the wings themselves are suppose to be heat sinks/radiators. And the Vanguard's wings originally had mav thrusters on them and so they'd move based on it's flight mode. But as for why they move, fuck if I know. Because CIG's favorite planes are the A-10 and the F-14. So every ship has a big ass gun on it's chin, sweep wings, or both I guess.

I swear, if planetside is good we could spend days or weeks just fucking around on planets making settlements, riding around in rovers and hover bikes.

You could have a whole gang of raider pirate bikers hooping and hollering as they ride around raiding settlers and towns if enough players settle one planet.

It'd be like a scifi western/Mad Max shit on a desert western planet.

Kinda. Definitely an amazing subject, so I suppose you are right.

Space blog:
I did enjoy that Betelgeuse was a larger red giant. Was not expecting it. Got to check out the Pleiades up close. And my trip to California was interesting.
I think a little over 550 jumps in one day. Would have been more but I had to bypass a few dark sectors, and a couple locked ones.

This is an odd 'game'. So empty and little to do really, but it's captivating at the same time. There really is no end goal, only death if you mess it up.

Also, I never though plotting routes, looking ahead to avoid dangerous jumps, and the feeling of endless brown dwarfs could be so entertaining.
>>
Where do I go from here?

Just not sure what to do or even how to begin other ways of playing. I'm enjoying bounty hunting, at least.
>>
>>153819078
I don't understand what this video is trying to prove to me. So the stream cuts perspective a lot so it was all bullshit? I'm confused.
>>
>>153820886
Take part in the bounty hunting community goal?

You can slowly start getting into things. Get yourself introduced to the mechanics and see if you can get some nice RP going.

Do you have Horizons?
>>
Played ED for like 400 hours now, haven't touched either game in months.

Started playing star citizen with my free ship yesterday and after I got the control scheme working which was a total mess, it seems pretty cool. Looking forward to what comes in the future.
>>
>>153820886
You could do some bounty hunting for the current community goal, you'll make some extra money that way. Then you could move up to a Vulture. You can find it from the mission board or galaxy map.
>>
>>153820701
>Also, I never though plotting routes, looking ahead to avoid dangerous jumps, and the feeling of endless brown dwarfs could be so entertaining.
Well they're giving stars another art pass next patch. Which is nice since you see a fuckload of them as an explorer.
>>
>>153821040
>>153821186

Good idea, I'll check out the community goal.

Also no, I don't have Horizons, I decided to just get the base game to check it out. I've not really had any reason to need the Engineers or go down onto a planet yet, but I imagine I'll be missing out a lot when Fighters come out.
>>
>>153821370
Honestly fighters will be fun for a bit but probably not that great in the end.
>>
>>153821016
Haven't watched that video but desu I did find it fishy that they said approaching a planet was seamless and then proceeded to focus the camera on the front of the ship for so much of the descent. At best they were hiding pop-in.
>>
>>153821512
I figured I'd be losing out on damage regardless of fun-factor.
>>
>>153821637
I guess. Though only if you're flying one of the big three.
>>
>>153821825
So, overall Horizons isnt really worth it unless you wanna do planetary stuff? I'd love to go exploring on planet surfaces but not for 20 quid.
>>
>>153821990

I'm getting one and turning it into a mobile brothel. I'm going to have the armory and docking collars in the back and all the bedrooms in the front. I'll have someone sit out front where the opening is and solicit players when we land on planets or greet people at the docking collars and show them into the rooms where the "girls" will be.

And by girls I mean feminine sounding traps.

So beluga's going to be longer and thinner than an anaconda. And the panther clipper is going to be longer than the beluga while being as wide as a type-9. I'm guessing two panther clippers won't be able to use the docking entrance at the same time. Also afraid to ask how much a panther clipper is going to cost if it's size is MAXIMUM. The cutter already costs over a billion A rated and the panther's twice the size.

If this game has even half the shit he throws out there it'll be amazing.
>>
>>153823921
All they'd need to do is come up with some prefab settlement structures, maybe modular.

I doubt it would be as hands on as it would be in a game like Ark, Rust or Minecraft. Probably more like having a company come in and build it for you or something to your specifics.

I interdict npcs all the time to thwart other cmdrs trying to line me up
1. they can't interdict you if you're already in the middle of an interdiction
2. you instantly accelerate to your target's speed if you're pulling away from a mass so you get thrown forward no matter how slow your top speed would normally be where you are
3. interdiction ignores the effect of mass on your top speed so if you're approaching a mass and you interdict an npc he gets accelerated to your speed and you'll maintain that speed instead of slowing down as you pass the object
4. either way if another cmdr was tyring to line up to interdict you it'll now take them 2-3mins to reach your low wake

Aside from the fact that it's the natural axis of movement for many veterans of any kind of flight sim, that doesn't answer the question on why switching the two axis in the first place is a good idea. Also, pretty sure there's differences between yaw and pitch rate in all ships.

There is plans to have ships look more worn-in the longer you have them/the more the get damaged and repaired which shouldn't be too difficult to implement. If they want to have unique scratches, dents, and holes that aren't prefabs (different for each player's ship rather than all using the same textures) though it'll be much more difficult I would think.

You would need mechanical pumps all throughout your body to really negate the effect of G forces. The issue is based on fluid dynamics and how your heart is literally unable to create enough pressure to effectively pump blood to your head. I think it would be pretty unlikely to reduce the effects of G forces much and if anything, it would increase tolerances but wouldn't change the ratio of tolerance (i.e. pitch up having a higher tolerance than pitch down due to the different effects of both)

I just want realistic G force effects if they even bother having them in the first place.

You could also be assured that if someone took CIG to court to get their franklin back, a large subset of forum autists would pile on the death threats despite $100 or even $1000 not mattering in the slightest. If they're at the point that they can buy a 13 grand coffee maker it would take a million in backer money to leave before they would even take notice.

There's certainly no shortage of cybernetics and biomods to deal with that sort of thing. For instance the Fed military tends to make full body replacement borgs out of its soldiers while the Empire biomods theirs into supersoldiers.

>wouldn't change the ratio of tolerance

That's still in the game. Pilots in ED can withstand around 18G and 10G vertical before they start to black out and red out, respectively. It's unknown what the limit on lateral Gs is though, since that's a lot easier for a body to tolerate and ED ships aren't well equipped to pull lateral Gs in the first place.

Lateral Gs are easier to tolerate, however that isn't taking into account the stresses on the neck muscles which is the reason why people view lateral Gs as harder to tolerate. If you also have a helmet on and don't have anything that restricts your head's lateral movement (which you can't otherwise you vastly limit the range of movement/rotation of your head) then your neck will give out very quickly under high lateral Gs.

Roll+Pitch. Literally identical to how you would do it in SC but with less gravity involved. Hello, /compsci/. I have a question.

At what point does Star Citizen become alpha, instead of pre-alpha?

And further more, does the term "pre-alpha" allow a game's community to dismiss criticism?

I seem to notice many games being defended on this basis lately, as if the gaming community as a whole was taught to use the term pre-alpha. Even when there's obviously working gameplay on screen.
>>
>>153831824
>Why wouldn't I use the much more sensitive axis of the joystick
Then go right ahead, rebind it. However for 99% of those with joystick experience, yaw and roll should be switched, because it represents the actual axis of the aircraft. You know, like almost all other simulators do with joysticks?

The pre-alpha and alpha thing are pointless to argue about since both terms are use interchangeably for us specifically. We do know, however, that SC isn't Beta, which is a feature complete game that is in final testing and balancing.

And when it comes to dismissing criticism, for the most part a lot of it somewhat can be. The game is being made and they release game builds when they're ready for testing purposes. When that happens, bugs are obviously going to be there, and that's why the Evocati and PTU exists, to help CIG find those bugs, so saying "wow SC has bugs it's shitttt" is useless since they're expected of an incomplete product still in development.

Usually games are made, tested internally, and then shown off when they're in Beta phase, so people never see the game breaking bugs, shitty framerate, hitching etc. If you took any game made at a random build during development, bugs will exist since the code is still being designed and shit. It's not really fair to judge a WIP game the same as a feature complete game that is finished as a base product because of those reasons above. Mind you, there are still valid ways to criticize it, but most of it is due to the nature of an incomplete product being made day by day.

SC is currently missing a lot of its main features in the form of game careers, alien races, star systems, and other things so I'd consider it pre-alpha until the basics of those core game systems are made.

On the other hand, the issues SC currently has that people always seem to bring up can be essentially dismissed since the builds of the game are given out to us for testing. I couldn't say the wall paint looks retarded and nothing close to the other finished room when the painter isn't even close to done with it.

Additionally, will the criminals get to have more powerful weapons than the justice league? I say this because they will have access to illegal weapon mods. I think it might off-set the risk of being a criminal slightly.

I don't want to look through 10,000 hours of blog updates on Youtube to find out if this has been asked already.

No you retard, the PTU gets a subscription only access for a few days sometimes to subscribers. Evocati are a subset of the most helpful backers that submit detailed descriptions on repeating bugs in the game with video evidence at times. Please inform yourself.

"Greetings Citizen!

We are cordially inviting you from to join Evocati Test Flight (ETF), a select group of volunteer testers who have previously demonstrated a knowledge and passion for finding and reporting Star Citizen bugs by actively participating on Issue Council or playing in our Public Test Universe (PTU) phases.
Evocati Test Flight testers will be invited to closed, NDA-controlled playtests held on PTU. Think of these sessions as a pre-PTU phase, comprised of builds with new, raw, and sometimes broken or unfinished content and features that could initially result in a degraded or even completely unplayable user experience.
As such, NO SCREENSHOTS OR LIVESTREAMING will be allowed during the Evocati phases. We’ll make sure to clearly notify everyone when we move out of an ETF phase and into a PTU phase where screenshots and livestreams are again allowed.
Once a build is stabilized and needs more concurrency testing, we’ll roll it out to our standard PTU waves for additional stress testing, and then to Live...."

I think it's a patient man's series. Just like TNG. It's more about the story and character interactions than easy pleasing action sequences. It requires more focus from the viewer, but if you can manage it, you get more out of it than, say, FarScape or Stargate SG1 (both of which I love, by the way, but they are much simpler and action oriented)

Terra = Earth (in Latin)
Terra Nova = New Earth (in Latin)

"New" Terra = New Earth (English + Latin) = stupid name
New Earth = (English) stupid name

CIG is at fault in this case, clearly. This needs to be changed to avoid confusion and spare them embarrassment.

Since 'Terra' means dirt/mud/earth i.e. the material of what the whole Earth is made from, any planet similar to Earth can be called some type of earth. Naming them after different things would avoid confusion, while reserving "Terra Nova" for a single planet which is 99%-100% like Earth's conditions, qualifying it to inherit the name.

TL;DR the 2nd system in the P.U. should either be called "New Earth", or the original Earth should be called "Terra" and the 2nd should be called "Terra Nova".
>>
So some quick background first.

I'm married, have 2 kids and a full time job. So for me what used to be the main part of my life, gaming, now is my off time, get to spend a few hours playing, maximum enjoyment or why bother....part of my life. So I tend to be very critical of any product I drop $60 down on. (yes dollars, I'm american lol) And monthly sub fees for any game is something I used to have multiples of, but now I limit myself to one.

In Nov 2014 I was playing EVE online and had been for a while and I got a little bored and didn't like the monthly fee, or the monthly scramble to make more and more isk, just to give it to someone else for a monthly fee. And a buddy told me I should check some videos of the game coming out called Elite: Dangerous. So I'm like ok sure. And I watched every damn video on youtube I swear it. And I even bought a cheap hotas, which btw for $50 still works just fine and was a good decision. I've even considered buying a better one,but we'll see about that. And at release I was not disappointed. It was exactly what I was expecting and even now I still find myself just staring at the insides of the stations, or binary stars orbiting each other in the middle of the vastness of a single galaxy in all of spacieness. But I had a personal issue with the game which was the mining. And at launch it was a chore, and it ruined the part of the game for me that I was really looking forward to. But they fixed it! The mining limpets are my best friends! So that really made the game phenomenal for me.

Expecting there to be enough concurrent players for planetside to not be a ghost town is silly.

and weirdly enough, we can expand the term "human" to mean all sentient "people".
While we keep Terran as the species designation in regards to origin, or Homo Sapiens as the species biological name.
That way you can call ayys people, too.

Humanoids = bipeds

Because SC is the game people have always dreamed of. Simple as that

>Expecting there to be enough concurrent players for planetside to not be a ghost town is silly.

Oh, so you're just an uneducated person. Well, SC will heavily rely on NPCs to drive the population of the game, that includes all normal game careers and the economy. Something like a 10:1 ratio, so planets will mostly be filled with NPCs. It's logical to do this because NPCs are easier for the server to deal than than actual player clients (at least that's what CIG said before) so if you can make them complex enough to do what players would need, then it'll all be alright, and that's where the Subsumption AI system comes in.

Somewhat, it's for the people who live in null, deep within friendly territory and just make bank.

Never fought a real battle in their life, maybe they were part of a nullfleet at one point but that's hardly anything.
At one point in my EVE career, our low sec corp found a WH that led into a system that was home to some renters.
Equipped with stealth bombers and some cloaky T3s we just laid waste to these guys for 14 hours straight. They had no chance.

See, there are A LOT of systems in null, too many for one alliance to 100% maintain, so some alliances rent out these systems to corps who will then come in and mine/kill pirates and eventually 'level up' the system for high paying rewards. Paying out a share each month to the host alliance and sometimes help defending the space.

Either SC or S42 will be a 60 dollar full price game, with the other discounted to 40 or something if you want to buy both. In SC they may give you a starter ship, but it's also been suggested that maybe you start with no ship and you have to either earn the in-game money to buy one either by playing the S42 campaign or by working on a multicrew ship, which could be NPC or player-run.

I can't totally agree with this post; yes, people should be encouraged to look into the game and how it works, but wise of the website, its VERY unclear of the game's development cycle and what the developers want to make for the game. You HAVE to research or have a dedicated SC fan tell you all of it.

They need to seriously improve there website. I really like the new ATV, which makes things a lot more open wise of the development.

>>
>>153848245
Most of SC's ships are designed explicitly so you can't fit even smaller ships than the bucket into it. They've said multiple times they want ships able to launch full fledged fighters to be a rare thing.

Your current pocket carrier choices are:
A flying auto garage- can carry and launch one ship
A flying space hospital- can carry and launch two ships.
A decommissioned navy frigate- can carry and launch three ships.

Everything else will probably be restricted to limited function snub ships/dragonflies or can only carry the ship in a packed up condition.

what does that mean? can't you fill all your containers with materials?
>>
>>153848903
In what universe would solo mining ever make sense? Ore is a raw material, you need a lot of it to make money, and therefore you need a ship with a lot of cargo space to move any significant amount to market. Nor does it make any sense that a small mining ship could carry the equipment to process ore on-site into enough processed material to make a decent profit. You simply can't fit the entire production chain from extraction, processing, and transport into one small ship and it's idiotic to try.
>>
>>153849032
you're mum overdesigned you
>>
>>153849102

Keto and Atkins don't teach how to eat long-term after you reach your goal weight. That's the problem with those types of diets. Once people reach their goal, they go back to their old eating habit and gain the weight back.

A balanced diet with a 500 caloric deficit, while doing cardio every other day (walking or jogging) will help you lose weight and get into life-long habits that keep it off.
>>
>>153849209
Basically it has 4 containers (2 on each side, those externally mounted things) that fill up with mined material. Once they're full you can drop them and the ship carries 2 additional sets of empty containers, so you need someone to pick up your stuff.

Also a 140 dollar ship with weaker guns and shield than a starter Aurora is bullshit. No matter what it's role is. And the guns are forward facing so you can't even use them defensively while you mine.

It is a solo mining ship, you can fill up two loads or work with a small nearby cargo ship to save time and being able to stay right at the valuable ore source for extra loads. I liked the early idea of the external cargo box. It fit well with the concept. Ship flies in all fast and agile. Attacks cargo ship. Steals a crate. Then flies back to base.

They really did fuck the whole cutlass apology idea up.
>>
>>153850130
the actual amount of cargo it can hold is kind of a debated topic. CIG says 30 units. But people have done the math and claim there's no way the reliant can hold 30, if the Titan only hold 12 units.
>>

Yes. It would be one of those rare situations where sticking a manned turret on top of a small ship would actually make sense since the ship has to remain stationary for long periods of time. The idea is you shoot off a few shot to warn off passing ships not to fuck with you.

Sort of like how the Cutlass' turret was originally intended to defend the ship while the crew was boarding a target until CIG announced they were moving docking collar in the rework

not the anon you replied to, but the turret seat of most fighters are NPC spots. Put an NPC there so that you can have someone shooting behind you while you're shooting in front, but mainly I doubt these fighters are going anywhere alone. You'd probably be in a group of 4 or 5 of these headed by a Redeemer, or some kind of main ship that can carry a pair of soldiers and has cargo space that isn't shit like the Cutlass.

The cargo lift does seem stupid, the belly (docking) ring seems much smarter as it allows for docking with a cater, but if they could do a general revamp of the cutlass I'd be happy, make it a bit like the pirate version of the redeemer, lots of space for cargo or marines, more armor, make it an overall gunship.
That said I wouldn't mind if it had a cargo lift version for ground vehicles, like so:

Cargo version has docking ring, lots of room for cargo and a few fold away seats for marines.

Dropship version has a lift with chairs for marines and a service station/something for dragonflies and power armor.

I don't care if was just a lazy Millennium Falcon proxy. I really loved the Ebon Hawk

Well, we need to discuss something in the meantime while we wait for 2.6.

I think that the Herald is one of the few ships that looks better in 3D than it did in the concept.
>>
>>153852972

I love that they've smooved the cockpit out while keeping it glass-panel style, it matches the Dragonfly style. I hate the boxy cockpit of the Cutlass and hope they update that too.
>>
>>153852489
>The Cutlass needs a rework, not a cargo lift.

How is the rework coming along? The Cutlass looks like a great discount Constellation pack. Drake stuff sounds like it'll be easy to repair/replace.
>>
>>153853078
>How is the rework coming along?

It's not. Don't expect any movement on the Cutlass front till after the Caterpillar is out.
>>
>>153852709

I already know about that. I've become familiar with the /scg/ and RSI community. Wish I could purge my mind of such things.

I'm not complaining but how did I miss this

This was the last time they officially acknowledged the rework.

>wanting your ship to be "easy to replace"

You seem to forget that you'll be flying that damned thing if you own it. It's not a good trait when your ship dies quickly but can be replaced in not time, because you're going to explode and lose a limb or something along with it since Drake ships don't have escape pods or ejection seats.

Would you really want to fly a fragile coffin?
>>
>>153853235
You've watched the Gamescom presentation, right? Herald is COSY.
>>
>>153852857
The Hawk looked really good and distinct enough from the Falcon to work.

The upside is that all the assets and design docs from the cater can be applied to the cutlass when they are done.

Anyone know what is good with the hoplite? what are the pros and cons of it as opposed to the Redeemer?
>>
>>153853539
I'm really looking forward to the Corvette in this game. Not necessarily to be a blockade runner since I can probably do that better in a smaller ship, but I love military vessels of that size with various uses.

>>153853496
I'm glad they at least took feedback.

You can usually find an album of the slides on reddit right after any CIG presentation. For future reference.

Just got to wave 10 in Arena Commander for the first time. Whatever they are doing to the engine, it's working. I could never get past wave 3 without lagging and jittering and getting killed or ragequitting. Much more smooth and higher FPS now.

The Redeemer has been thrown into the trash where it belongs.
>>
>>153854025
Pro: It's actually done while the Rememer is on hold forever
Con: It's a Vanguard
>>
>>153854025
I think the only reason they did it was because the Redeemer wouldn't be even close to ready for S42 because it needs to be remade completely.

I... I kinda liked the redeemer... But ok, I also liked the Vanguard series so I understand having one and not the other.

I guess I am hoping they'll have a small Aegis ship that can actually carry vehicles, be it the Tali or the Redeemer at some point.

>>

does the bottom turret mean we'll be able to put a size 5 fixed weapon on the bottom?
>>
>>153854873
No. S4 fixed or single S3/dual S2 gimbal.
>>
>>153854357
Here's what it boils down to:

Vanguard
+Speed
+Range
-Weapons
-Less Modularity (Redeemer has a ground vehicle and recon module)

Redeemer
+Weapons (Outguns all bellow starfarer in size)
+Modularity
+Cargo (exactly same space as avenger, with crane)
-Speed
-Range

Scroll down to Redeemer section.

Reclaimer
Tali
Orion
Hull E
Super Hornet

So many ships I want to buy but not going to spend that much on this game, it's ridiculous.

>>153854025
pro- probably faster and more agile than the redeemer. doesn't look like a whale with curling irons for fins

con- less guns, less shields, less options to trade the drop ship module out for.
>>
>>153854987
Just get the Super Hornet and kill your way to more expensive ships.

>>153854873
Hell no. That's the only thing that makes the Vanguard special right now.

>>153854647
OwTheEdge.jpg

Turrets, for NPCs to use for firing backwards with dual S3 guns, will be good as hell.
>>
>>153855140
But the ships I buy won't have LTI on them, that's why I want to get them from CIG instead of in-game.
>>
>>153855232
You could just buy an Argo now I think the sale is until tomorrow and up it to a Super Bug later.

Then again allegedly LTI doesn't matter anymore. Suppose we'll see how that turns out.
>>
>>153855232
hull insurance will likely be dirt cheap. it's the cargo and aftermarket gear insurance that will be price gouging.
>>
>>153855232
I don't think insurance is going to be a huge enough deal. The SH or Sabre are really good dogfighters.
