- Doing Village 6 shit right now before going into Guild just like I did with MHFU

- Right now it's probably the Axela Blade. Astalos has gorgeous equipment in general.

aesthetically, gore megala. the way he uses his wings to like gorilla run just looked so awesome the first time I saw him. gameplaywise, ludroth or lagiacrus. as a tribaby both of them felt super comfy when I came back with gen, and no underwater takes away the most tedious features of fighting them.

Should i play MH4U or MH:Generations first?

The only monhun i've played bearlier were 400+ hour of MH:FU and ~150 hours of MHP3rd.

There isn't any other pair of Monster Hunter games that are really analogous to MH4U and MHG.

FU to P3rd is about what you'd expect in terms of how the content compares, but that was second-generation to third-generation and all that that entails. 4U and Generations are both definitely fourth-generation games, and styles/HAs don't really change that.

It's also not really an expansion of 4U the way that Tri->P3rd->3U were, because it drops a ton of monsters that were in 4U and mostly adds back the ones that hadn't shown up since 3U or FU.


They're different enough, without either one making the other obsolete, that you could probably play them both in either order, and get equal enjoyment out of them either way.

You can either eat for explorer or not, its up to you. If you do eat for it you spawn in the secret area, jump down and mine the stuff near the lava, then run up to the remobras in the top area and mine everything then farcaster back. Deliver your coals and grab a farcaster from the box. Then go to area 2 and get the rest of the coals you need and then farcaster back a second time.

If you don't eat for explorer then just... I dunno run around like a headless chicken.

To an extent, they made it easier to farm materials and get gear in this iteration. Not needing to have plates to get a full Rathalos set, for example (although you still need one per piece to get max defense). Even charms, you never had such an exploit like Coal Hearted in previous entries, you had to work with what you had from normal mining (Melding in 4U).

The only thing they fucked up is Heavy Spheres and Hellblade Powders. Good fucking lord, why make them so rare and obnoxious to get?

Still playing 4U, I'm sitting at the start of G1. Is there any particularly good way to get "over the hump" and into G-rank if I'm going solo? The suits and weapons that let me spank high-rank monsters easily make me feel naked with a rusted weapon trying to get through these quests alone.

I don't really have a preferred weapon, guns included, the only one I don't use regularly is longsword, and I can still do ok with it if need be.

So I killed Great Jaggi for the first time, health never went below half so I felt kind of good about it. Then when I found out it would start spawning in the first area I figured I'd keep practising against it.

Got to the point where two spawned at once.
I managed to kill both but I don't feel like I deserved that win at all. I ate so much shit.
Was below one third health every time they ran and even had to run to get a moment to heal while actually fighting them. By all accounts I should be dead.

Basically I feel like a fraud. Is this just the monster hunter way or am I a huge scrub?

Is it weird that I find Gore Magala genuinely difficult. I've only fought it twice but holy shit it's actually a struggle. Part of the problem is that he loves to transform in Jurassic Frontier's area 2 which is too fucking tiny for him to have such huge attack ranges.

Most of them think that Monster Hunter is successful because of the item grind, and trying to give itself "longevity" through gearing up - but it isn't, and every dev who thinks that ends up churning out a halfassed action RPG that uses arena-like zones and is far too dependent on gear and stats.
Most of the ones that don't think that it's just about making a co-op action game with some customization, and they'll churn out some shit game that basically makes Dynasty Warriors look like Devil May Cry.

It's a lot more nuanced of a game than people give it credit for, even in the installments that seem underwhelming and dumb.

Kirin armor predates the idea of armor having skills on it, or the game having skills at all. It's been around since the first game, and at the time it was the only armor set in the game that showed skin (other than the newbie Bone Armor set, which I'm only half-sure was actually in the game).

Base defense, elemental resistances, and looking cool, yeah. You had no skills to help you survive stuff, weapons were missing a lot of features that are now considered key (Greatswords couldn't charge, SnS couldn't use items without sheathing, no Crouching Fire for HBG, countering with a Lance, etc). There were very, very few 'intermediate' monsters like Tetsucabra or Malfestio, so you basically went right from Kut-Kus and Gypceros to Raths, Gravios, and Diablos, and between not having armor skills to buff up your damage, and monsters naturally having a ton more HP than they've had since HP got nerfed in MHF2, monsters were pretty much 2-3x as hard to kill. And it was fucking great and I miss it a lot.

i've used exhaust quite a bit, but i'm gonna make a power one and use that. The effect doesn't always happen, unfortunately. The monster exhaustion is definitely noticeable, though. The tigrex one is pretty good, and has good raw/exhaust.
