>If you have trouble following Narga, then you're just bad. It's as easy--easier--to follow than Tigrex, Shaggy, enraged Gore, Agnaktor, pretty much any monster.
I never indicated that I was having trouble keeping up with it at all; only that doing so wasn't fun and draws out the fight for longer than it needs. Every other monster you mentioned above largely stays in place if you're close enough to it, and can easily be punished after any move that results in a sizeable gap between it and you; you can punish a tigrex's charge, you can stun agnaktor or lavasioth by attacking them if they come out of the ground half submerged, you can knock over duramboros by getting in and hitting its legs when it starts spinning its tail. You can't do any real damage to a narga unless it's standing still after a particularly drawn out attack like a tail slam because it never stops jumping around. You don't have to worry about positioning or any sort of strategy since the process of fighting it consists mainly of running around and hitting it maybe once or twice unless it taunts.

It's a mind-numbing excercise in time wasting that demands no real skill on the part of the player since openings are few and its attacks aren't damaging enough to punish poor play. Tigrex is a monster that punishes poor positioning and inability to dodge but becomes easy to the point of triviality once you can recognise its openings and get good at dodging its attacks but for whatever reason you appear to dislike it.

The difference in kill times is within a minute, maybe two for Hypers, but probably less than that overall because I played better on my Striker time trial than my Guild. Axe mode is fucking fantastic, and nowhere near as poor as people are making it out to be.

I used it with the frail shaggy IG, that goes into green sharpness quickly but has a fuckton of it, and the Dreadking set while farming that very Deviant.

Sure there's better shit for endgame but it helps here and there so it's not as useless as people make it out to be just more of an opportunistic skill.
Also not every HR monster demands Minds Eye with green sharpness, something that is often overlooked for the sake of "muh ultimate set needs to kill everything with muh main weapon!".

I just dont get it. I dont understamd how to fight this monster. No matter how i approach him, i eat damage. Dodge his punch? Get hit by his tail. Finally get an opening? He does his aoe and i get fucked.

No other monster gives me trouble, i rarely cart to even elder dragons. But brachy? Its a miracle if i dont cart two times. I mean even getting close to this fucker is hard enough as is since he always has slime bombs around him.

i used ceanataur low rank for all of LR, and the HR set is pretty good as well. sharpness and 18 points in expert.

Personally i used, and am still using, Garuga S. Hearing, mind's eye, and i put in evasion +1 from my charm. Though i wanna get a new one soon now that im in HR6. Nargacuga S is good as well, evade extend, some points in evasion, and expert IIRC, Though it's defense is slightly lower than average.

I sat in a lobby for an hour waiting for even a single person to join for just normal hunts, nobody did.

As far as I can tell the only way to hunt non-hyper/deviant monsters is to join some key hunts lobby, and then you can only hunt the key monsters.

So I've already quit playing, soloing gets boring after you hunt the monster a couple times. There's a peak funness, where 5-15 minutes for a challenging fight is still fun, but past that you just want the fight over.

I think a big part of that is that, because they got away from the practice of having gear routinely require the really rare carves (until you want to upgrade to the max ranks, anyway), people really don't have to spend any remotely significant amount of time hunting most of the non-top-tier monsters for parts.

I can't really complain about that, because it wasn't like it was FUN to need plates and shit just to craft a mid-game armor set, but unfortunately, the devs used "you have to hunt this a million times looking for your one 2% drop" as a crutch to get people to do mid-tier hunts for literally like ten years of annualized games, so they were never really faced with the problem of needing to incentivize people to do any of that shit. So now that you don't HAVE to, very few people do.

And calling it right now, if and when they ever do address that issue, people are going to hate the shit out of it anyway, because another problem they've never had to face is finding a way to make mid-tier hunts fun for people who have top-tier gear.

I don't think making armor sets is as important in Gen as it was in previous games. As in, you usually make several sets for different situations and hunts. But I've used one set to make it through LR, then i made a set for HR, and i'm working through that now.

In 4U, for example, i had several sets in LR and HR before getting to G-rank. Having skills/resistances to suit the hunts felt necessary, but in Gen you can make a good all-around set and do fine for a large portion of the game. Not sure whether that's because the game is overall easier, or because a lot of armors aren't worth making. Probably both.

I can't help but feel like i'm missing out on a lot of the game since i'm making so little armor, but most of the time it's just not necessary or worth the time.

Biggest problem with mid or low tier hunts (especially in G/High rank gear) has always been IMO how little time you spend hunting compared to how much time you spend prepping.

Even with item sets and not really needing to eat you still have to pick a quest, get everyone to ready up, and then go. If you're autistic like me and always pick up a fresh set of items then you've got that too, gunners have to get bullets or coatings or, god forbid, switch gear. And if you decide to eat then add a bit more time. Then the monster is dead inside of 2 minutes and you get to rinse and repeat because you just need some fucking astalos wingtalons or some shit.

MH is so old and bogged down in archaic shit that needs to go. Can't swap armor in the hub zone, can't send all rewards to box, still hitting an extra button to identify charms, hub eating animations, can't leave the hub zone unless you don't have a quest, all the important places in the hub zone (box, shop, food, quest counter, prep zone) are across the zone from eachother, can't sell box items at the shop, all the intentional lag on certain inputs, etc.

I've felt the same way since Portable 3rd. The last game where it made sense for me to sort of stop and smell the flowers in terms of making a variety of low-rank gear was Tri.

Personally I think that's down to a combination of the Low-Rank portion of the game taking a drastic nosedive in difficulty in between Tri and P3rd, and the Guild portion of the game moving from being driven by HR points to purely Key Quests.

Tri wasn't afraid to throw a wall at new player and make them work to overcome it; compare Tri's Barroth to the version in P3rd and 3U.

It made sense to me in Tri to make a bunch of low-rank weapons and gear sets, because if I'm stuck doing 20-30 Rathian-tier hunts to gain enough HR points to advance on to Rathalos-tier hunts, it actually improves my experience if I make gear to make life easier for those hunts. If I only have to clear every Key once to proceed, then I don't really care if I'm undergeared and it takes me 40 minutes to clear, because I only ever need to do that hunt once to proceed.

Low-Rank actually used to be my favourite part of Monster Hunter - I liked the rapid progression, and the feeling of not having much in the way of resources and so actually needing to make use of everything at your disposal, sometimes to the point of gathering some of your items on-site - but these days I speed through it as quickly as possible, making as little gear as I can (in Gen I just used the starter, unupgraded, 2 Defense Bherna gear right up until I beat the Village Glavenus), because it just isn't engaging anymore.

i went back and looked at my FU characters a day or two ago, after not playing the game for a few years. I noticed i had several sets from LR lying around, and 1 HR one since i had apparently just recently gotten to HR.
Man, i remember my days in FU. I must've been like 10 when Unite came out, meaning i was even younger when a friend introduced me to F1, and we eventually co-oped.

Shit was hard back then, probably even moreso because i was younger and a dumbass, but still (i remember cheering after beating an LR rathalos for the first time). I can't remember if i actually got into G. HR felt enough like G for me that it didn't matter.

I wonder how i'd handle FU difficulty today with the polish of current MH games. Probably much better, since i kinda know what i'm doing now, and multiplayer is actually an option.

I'm enough of a curmudgeon that my instinctual answer to that is "Well there shouldn't be any fucking 2-minute hunts", but that aside, I can't really disagree with that.

The series could really stand to make quest prep faster and more convenient, and some sort of overhaul to the game's quest structure seems like it's been a long time coming. It's kind of crazy that there hasn't been any meaningful change to how quests are designed, posted, joined, and completed since Monster Hunter 1, a PS2 game that was designed for long sit-down play sessions over the Internet, even though we're 12 years on now, playing it on handhelds, where the primary audience is primarily playing ad-hoc wireless multiplayer for 10-20 minutes, between portable devices. There has to be a better way to do things than that.

The main criticism is that it's functionally no different from High-Rank in the games that don't have G-Rank. Early G-Rank is no different from early High-Rank, late-game G-Rank is basically only distinct from late-game High-Rank in that some monsters and subspecies are arbitrarily locked to G-Rank, and in that monsters have miniscule differences to their movesets that you probably wouldn't even realize are differences unless someone points them out to you (wowee, Ukanlos can make slightly sharper turns!).

The only actual difference between games that end in G-Rank and games that end in High-Rank is that in the G-Rank games, there's a useless, vestigial middle tier that brings nothing to the table except a detrimental level of gear stat/power creep and a pointless timesink in between Low-Rank and the maximum rank.
