IG question: I'm using the Azure Bayonet with lvl10. Dreadking armor (Blunt gem'd in) The DPS is there but I sometimes have trouble with my attacks bouncing off. Should I forfeit good damage for better sharpness by using a different IG? Or do I stick with the 230 raw + AtkUp L? Kind of torn.

Rathalos is inexcusable game design

If this pile of shit isn't instant charging back and forth between targets it's flying, and boy does it love to instant charge into flying. If you don't have Flash Bombs and mats to make more Flash Bombs Rathalos is probably the most artificially inflated hunt in the game.

Hopefully, since that sounds pretty good, and it would makes following/tracking a monster more interesting. Hardware limitations could prevent that, though. I'd also like them to remove some of the tedium that comes with the game. Things like chip damage, the sheer amount of gathering quests early/mid-game etc.

Maybe even a way to make the combat a bit more fast-paced, if that makes sense. In all honesty i don't know how that would be done, but i'd like to see it.

I think gathering quests early game are kind of a necessity to make sure that a new player can get acquainted with the maps easier and know how/where to get certain items. Of course most people just wanna rush in and get to the big dragons/monkeys/bugs so they probably shouldn't make them mandatory at the very least. Maybe it would work better if they just let you roam around the maps freely like with D. Island in Tri/3U and your first quest is some basic "kill shitty raptors" deal

It would be really difficult to design single, contiguous maps that both allow for monsters to treat specific zones as standalone arenas, the way that they treat areas now, and disallow people from finding weird map exploits that let them kill monsters inside their favourie zones in total safety. And even if they did, the map would look so unnatural and weird by the end of the process that loading screens are probably the more immersive and less jarring solution.

It's more of a design decision than a technical limitation.

I swear I saw a developer interview or something a long time ago that explained why they stick to individual zones. All I remember is that the main reason they don't change it is that they'd have to redesign practically everything about the game to make it work.

I personally don't mind zones because it allows for a greater variety of areas within a single map. My only problem with them is when they don't make sense, such as jumping into a river of lava and ending up falling on Ingle Isle.

That's a concept video. It's not "this is actually what the game is supposed to be like", it's "here's a scenario that strings together all the variations we've come up with on the new features/focus that we want to highlight".

All that video is supposed to do is show you, all in a row, how the MH4 engine is more supportive of elevation differences, how elevation 'corners' can work as a ledge to jump off, and how much smoother the recovery animations are when you land, how much more quickly and easily players can climb and vault over small and medium-sized ledges (compared to how stuff it was in gens 1-3), being able to jump off of one ledge and catch a handhold on a wall to begin climbing up, how you can 'dodge' up a climbable surface now instead of having to climb like a ladder the whole way through. Then it mixes in some of the terrain destruction/deformation (the floor tilting and making you slide downward, like they eventually put into Heaven's Mount), how you could climb horizontally, attack with your knife while climbing on a wall, and then finally ends by showing off the mounting system.

The game was never going to be anything like that. They just needed to show all of that stuff off in the space of about two minutes.

It wouldn't be a better game (because there's value to the customization and people have fun with it), but it WOULD be a better game if they dialed back how much of a difference gear makes and focused more on the action-based side of it.

The arena loadouts specifically are criminally underused, particularly in Gen's limp-dick arena. Ideally, every single quest in the game would have an associated set of arena-like gear/item loadouts, and you could choose to use one of the pre-made sets instead of your own gear, so that people would have viable options even if they didn't want to grind out gearsets. I think it would be a pretty fun challenge mode (and really easy to implement, on the devs' side) if one of the game's challenge modes was to just do regular Guild quests, but everybody has to use a pre-selected arena-style loadout instead of their actual gear.

I think that's the ideal case, but I don't know if I think it's essential. Part of the reason that the arena is often my favourite part of the game is really because of those encounters where it's like, "Well, fuck, none of the weapons I use are available here," and you get pushed into expanding your horizons and learning a new weapon, or even just a new style of play for a weapon you're familiar with (say, if you're used to playing HBG as a straight turret/cannon and just shooting things to death, but the setup they give you is highly dependent on status effects and heavy item use, or vice versa). I think if "arena rules" were extended to the rest of the game, there might be more value in making sure that you have to leave your comfort zone than in making sure that everybody's bases are covered.
