Take note that the damage area, in both big and small are 1 block only, so the center block facing the thruster will take damage, the rest wont, or at least it was like that not so long ago, its better to hide the thrusters because they get damaged very easy.

I made a cheap stealth bote, it costs around 14k

It goes up to 22 m/s, it's armed with 12x 8 long radar guided missiles, the launcher is flush with the hull once retracted. It also have shields set to reflect at strenght 3 that cover all the hull. Finally it has 8k materials to convert into ammo and 40k fuel with a mid-high efficency engine (around 330 ppf). The only thing that it doesn't have is a countermeasure system for missiles but with all the stealthiness it has i don't think it really needs one.

This intersection might give you a general idea how to use Chain Signals easily.
You place Normal Signals on EXITS, and you place Chain Signals on EVERYTHING ELSE.
(that's for crossings, stations, intersections etc. You ofc still use normal signals for long straight stretches).

This crossing lets 1-4 trains to pass through the intersection at the same time without having to wait for intersection to clear, or crashing into each other.
Ofc, I am using a one-way train system, from what I see, you have train engines on both ends, so you might have to troubleshoot your stuff if you see problems.

The simplest way is to spawn them in on different teams. Press x, then select what team they're on (upper right as I recall, might not be right).

I tried flying around with three connected to one another and the other two just detached casually and floated away.

Missiles and aircraft. I'd like to be able to have frontline bases that deploy their own units on their own upon detection. I still require unit-to-unit Lua communication to make it work though. Otherwise you'd completely be able to just throw down airbases with fighters and a garrison and it'd hold the place by itself while you focus elsewhere.

But we can't really do that.

Regarding your "full stop" problem, I usually have buttons dedicated to reverse, full stop, full speed and, in some cases, flank speed. Those would use ACBs to change water drive to -1 or 1 or whatever, and flank speed usually uses dedi helis to lift my prow out of the water for another few m/s at the cost of stability and ability to turn.

If you confused it with the NGE, which actually changed professions so JTL was affected a little bit, NGE was publish 25.

In any case, they should be goddamn faster, especially since JTL was virtually unchanged in most things that matter in CU/NGE and the entire leaked server code for post-NGE JTL is available now.

The most tragic thing is how many additions to the base game were made after NGE, they were adding so many features right until the game shut down, those storyteller RP NPCs, and fucking ATMOSPHERIC GODDAMN FLIGHT, they added that a month or two before the game was shut down.

Making progress. Now if both the long-range and short-range laser hit something it marks that direction as invalid (for wall detection). If just the long-range laser hits something it thinks it's food and moves to consume it. If 2+ directions contain food it picks the direction in priority of down/left/up/right

Next task is to try make some way for it to pick a random direction if there's no food in the adjacent squares.

It was about a quarter done (bridge, engine room, captain and crew quarters and medbay), and didnt even have the outer hull, or engines or anything attached yet.

It was brought to my attention that nearly a fifth of all the blocks on the server were currently in my small frigate.

I discovered that mainframes can't be placed on spin blocks, also unlike turret blocks placing a LWC next to a spin block deosn't make it take control of the weapons so the only way to connect a weapon or detection equipment on a spin block to the mainframe is by using wireless transmitters/recievers. Needless to say, said bullets can achieve damages of 130k explosive damage per shot. A single medieval cannon can do, what? 800 per shot? 130000/800 means that you'd need more than a hundred shots do do the same damage

I just don't know anymore. I spent most of the day trying to turn the Wanderlust with its cannon into something that can fucking hit an enemy ship, and I'm seriously getting fucking frustrated at this game.

I have the largest coincidence viewfinder, active radar, camera, laser rangefinder, all pointing towards the enemy ship, all hooked up correctly to the mainframe, enough processing power to operate at 100%, clear line of sight, if I look at the detectors they say they are correctly tracking the enemy ship etc, etc. I'm 100% sure that this should be working correctly.

Yet it feels like every single shot is made at an offset to fall into the water 1 fucking meter in front of the enemy ship. It's just a tiny little short every single time. No matter where I attack from, which direction the ship is moving, how close or far to the target my ship is. Every. Single. Shell. falls into the water at surgical accuracy, just missing the enemy ship.
It's like the computer is not targeting the middle of the ship, but the water just centimeters from where the hull beings. And it hits it perfectly every time.

I believe it's 25 ammo per block (2 missile parts).

Say you have a small missile with 1 thruster, 1 seeker, 2 fins, 2 fuel tanks, a one turn and a warhead. That's 4 blocks, so 100 ammo for a single warhead.
Now if you added one more fuel tank and one more warhead, that's 125 ammo for 2 warheads, or 62.5 per warhead.

That said, I build missiles to achieve a role, not for cost/warhead. I have a ship that's roughly the size of a corvette/frigate, but packs the firepower of a light destroyer through laser-guided telephone poles and a fuck off 120mm railgun that can happily nail a sea viper size target from 2km away. The range finder has 10 times better angular accuracy, which is important for gun shots.
Also I believe the laser can give away your position if the enemy ship has laser detectors.

You can use both, the mainframe should be able to pick the most accurate data.
You can use a range finder for accurate angular readings, and a laser for accurate range.
The camera is almost as good, though.

you create a platform on small blocks for medium-large operations, but this one also split it into: wheeled, atmospheric, ION or mixed.

But make the platform unchanged despite wich path will take, the same with the energy source, or the cargo it self.
The platform could be with the same idea as the ford T chassis, to later put shit on it.

Pic related is an example, you can unmerge the wheels section and replace it with ION for space, so you can carry this into another planet and be usefull in on the road.

What i ment to say is, you have to imagine a tech tree line like it is in RTS, but adapt it into the roles you do on spungos.

This are what im thinking so far on the civil branch.

Its not that much in civilian stuff, but it keeps a logic order and purpose, not just cool looking shit.

It's fairly cheap to craft a new bike once you get mining.
You can expect heavier enemy resistance on other planets, more fortresses and more drone spam once you land.

Alright so now apart from the cannon turret being inaccurate despite having like 5 different trackers on it, I have a problem with the naval AI, it constantly turns in such a way that it keeps way too much distance from the enemy ship and turns the wrong way for the turret to maintain lock on the enemy (the turret isn't 360 degrees, it can't turn all the way back to the back of the ship). 60mm at 900-1200RPM is entirely feasible in a surprisingly small package, and it's so fast the sound breaks. Also has the desired effect because you can build a kinetic shell that does 500 damage at 10ap, which is enough to hurt metal beams, and absolutely shreds alloy.

One of my cruisers has two fixed racks of 25 short-range missiles that fire off in a huge swarm. The covers do a fantastic job of protecting the missiles while it closes range, and they are set to open 50m before the missiles are in range using an ACB.

Larger hull and more open volume. There probably is an ideal ratio for hull shape but that depends on the specific variables of FtD (drag coefficient etc) but a general rule is long and skinny is fast but unstable, wide and square is stable but slow. That may also factor into your 'straight line' problem. Use wood or alloy in less exposed areas. Real warships have a relatively thin hull with belts of armour around key areas. Helium pumps in cabins above the waterline can help but that's a desperate measure.

Lead ballast, turn down your air pumps.

This only really affects light hulls but you need to check your center of mass is balanced between your props. Props partially in the water produce less thrust. Use lead to nudge your CoM around if need be.

If your ship 'wiggles' under AI control that means it has plenty of maneuvering power and is a good thing because it also screws with enemy gunnery trying to lay your bearing. Now that AI averages several readings it's less effective but it used to give them hell.

If you are listing left or right and travel in a curve, your center of mass is above your center of buoyancy, and the ship is rolling over so they are balanced. Widening the upper parts of the hull raises your CoB and resists rolling. A lead keel lowers your CoM and also acts as a counterweight to roll, and if on a wood/alloy extension will further lower your CoM without excessive weight increase. Downside is it increases drag, increases your minimum depth, and a torpedo can blow it off and capsize your ship. I've only needed such extreme measures on narrow hulls built for speed, anything more traditionally 'warship' shaped should be fine with a row of lead beams along the middle of the bottom-most layer.

Not on its own. There is a trick to make a rotating sensor pod by building a turret with a missile controller block. That's enough to be considered 'armed' and an LWC will point it at the enemy.

Fire missil with rocket launcher does less damage then if you fire it with a connector and gravity.
Rock is still a better weapon then warheads.
Ramming still better then any weapon.
