SC has a gamescom Idris booth being setup. Details about their event here:

if it doesn't have a general, come on in. just don't get upset about sharing.
Here's a pastebin with games you can play while waiting for SC to be finished or for E:D to be fun:

OK people. Do not get on the hype trains. Keep low expectations to not be dissapointed, as I'm sure SCfags know this well anyway. Also, expect many of the people from many months past to come back and shitpost. Avoid the bait so that we can stay /comfy/ although you guys seem to do a good job at that already. Keep it up bruvs.

So will the borders shift in Star Citizen? Like, will lawless space sometimes become lawful and vice-versa?

So, how would you all balance ships like the Reliant Kore or some of the cheap but shitty ED ships. Is there a way to balance them aside from price? Are they forever left to RP purposes? Or perhaps relegated to a non-scaling manner in which their main use is for newbies or in safe areas?

They just need to implement armour and the way ships fall apart better. Right now some ships are just at a hilarious advantage due to elements that were never intended in their design. As they develop locational damage and armour, they'll be able to fine tune shit like this, so ships with wackier designs don't just fall to pieces in the way they do.

the option to put anything there is gone and there's a couple bug reports made about it. Some are claiming it's just part of the 'random hard points disappearing' bug but seems odd that it's always the same wing and happening to multiple people and I've never seen that bug happen to a gun hard point on other ships, only missile pylons.
>>
>>151896748
No, I've gotten them from friendly.

Yes, I did every ascension from there to make a few extra mil each time (always long haul, hope you got cargo space).

If you're cycling to pop the mission, try donating for a while longer, mine never popped until I was 5% into the next rank, then they were always present.
>>
>>151896925
Just give me a hoverer thing, fdev clearly cannot into ground controls.
>>
>>151900106
>>151900027
Let me add onto what I'm asking. How would you balance a ship which is clearly outclassed by contemporaries? Especially those ships that aren't much different in price. For example, I never felt the need to fly ships such as the Adder in ED. Skipped over it entirely to get the Viper. I feel that certain ships follow that pokemon mantra, where it may not be great but you only use it because you like it a lot.

I can't think of any obvious examples in SC aside from the reliant.
>>
>>151896925
Yes. No idea when or what kinds, but they've said there will be more. I'd like a Wipeout style srv that hovers and it for racing/fast exploration. That and large, industrial style srvs that will only fit in size 4 and 6 slots, but can carry a lot and is equipped to mine/drill into a planet to get resources.

Bought a Type-6 with plenty of coin to spare. Comfy space trucking here I come.
Fit it out with a 4-A drive. Lots of cargo room.
However, whenever I set up a 'fastest' route to jump, it keeps telling me that while the jump should be in my range and the course is plotted, it's going to use more fuel than the jump limit (3T) when I spool up. How do I unfuck this? Or change the map to make smaller jumps?
>>
>>151900449
Well, again speaking about SC because I don't know anything about ED, these are the ships that will be filling the universe, some are cheaper than others, also availability will mean not all will be on sale at all vendors.

There are plenty of pros and cons in there, such as trading (how big is the cargo hold), how much damage a ship can take (shields etc), the signature system, if it has a bed, missiles vs conventional weapon hardpoints and so on.

Most players aren't min-maxers who just want the absolute best stats for pure dogfighting. See how popular the Mustang Beta is just for being NEET as fuck.

So yeah, its roleplaying.

A good friend just gave me $100 for my birthday, so I went and ordered a CH Fighter Stick for Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous. I will buy the throttle later and eventually some pedals. Any recommendations regarding control layouts in the aforementioned games, particularly since it might be a few weeks before I get a throttle?

I almost fell for the Saitek X-56 due to its extra analog stick, but thank God I watched and read reviews first. Saitek is pretty much trash these days apparently.
>>
>>151900642
Re-plot the route. If you change stuff in your ship after plotting a route it won't auto-update to the new mass of your ship. Remember the Type 6 is a nice trade ship but an Asp will easily outrun it and mass lock it, so if one chases you high-wake out and outmaneuver them while your drives charge up. If you just boost away and wait to jump you will get destroyed.

Are you routing single jumps? That's the only way I could see you getting that message. If you want to travel beyond your ship's immediate range you have to select to "plot" a route in the galaxy map.

It's been very long since I've been in a lowrange ship. Are you carrying enough fuel?

also i am pretty drunk sorry
>>
>>151900896
In SC stick plus keyboard works well. I almost prefer it to HOTAS because on my keyboard I can control rolling and strafing much more easily than my throttle. In ED, I believe that KBM is superior to stick aside from immersion sake.

mostly just adding or upgrading hardpoints and tweaking speed/agility.

Aurora- delete all auroras but the LN

Mustang- Alpha is fine, Beta gets pylon mounts,
Delta gets S3 shields, Gamma gets a nose turret

Avenger- add a custom energy weapon option for nose mount

300i- fix the damn interior to be what it was advertised as. Make the hull a bit tougher.

Reliant- Make wings much more durable. Buff yaw movement. figure out way to allow seat exit in vertical mode.

Gladius-change wings to S3s

Cutlass- rebuild from scratch.

M50- double the number of missiles, add a pair of S1 guns

Hornet- Make turret-less Hornets a bit faster.

Freelancer- Fix fucking view. Slight speed increase.

Gladator- buff turret guns to S2, bump combat speed up to 200m/s

Retailator- buff speed/agility/hull strength Add a pair of s5 hard points controlled by pilot.

Vanguard- rebuild from scratch.

Khartu-Al- buff speed and agility. Add a pair of S2 hard points.

CH doesn't have a twist function.
Also I'd much rather have z axis mapped to roll for space games.
>>
>>151901012
Real military fighters do not have any twist function on their sticks. That is what pedals are for. Putting twist on the stick makes them too prone for accidental inputs which is why high end sticks do not have that feature (and anything made by Saitek is not going to be high end).

Being weighed down by cargo reduces your range, so yeah, what was a jump on the edge of your range while empty now requires more fuel than you can dump into the drive in a single go.

Only plot after you've loaded up, or use the cargo slider in the galaxy map course plotter if you know exactly how much you plan to carry.

Yeah, way too close together, and the deep foot wells on the pedals are obnoxious.

You could try modding them like that, the internal mechanisms are actually pretty simple.

I actually use http://www.kwikpit.com/ezemod.htm and the skid plate plus being able to rest my feet half off the pedals for a bit more leg room helps a lot.

But over all it's probably easier to just buy the basic saitek pedals.

I really don't want to put up with Saitek's quality if I can avoid it, and also the CH native compatability would be nice to have.

That kit looks cool and I might consider it given how cheap it is. I think I'd still be interested in finding a way to widen the stance on the pedals, though. I just can't see myself wanting my legs that close together for extended periods of play.

But I guess they didn't want the Vanguard to be too perfect.
>>
>>151903859
Yeah it really shouldn't be all that difficult to modify them. It's just a simple extension so how hard could it be?

It would be great if someone would just make a kit that came with machined metal fighter-style pedals that gave you a wider stance + the fighter jet style pedals. That existing kit for the CH pedals seems to give it similar function to fighter-style pedals although they are still a lot closer together than they should be.

Well, if you found a good design and a cheap source of metal replacement pedals you could start selling your own kits.

I was really disappointed when Thrust Masters' new pedals were even closer together than CH's. There's a real product gap for flight pedals if you don't want to use saitek or pay for the crazy high end stuff.

If I had access to a CNC machine I could try my hand at designing some replacement CH pedals in CAD, although I would need some kind of textured pipe to attach to the base where the foot pushes against. Even just having a 3D printer to prototype with would be a start.

Pedals are mechanically a very simple device, and unfortunately most of the third-party ones these days seem to be very over-engineered (pic related), and as such end up costing many times more than the actual sticks they're going to be paired with.

If there's one thing I have to hand it to CH for, it's that they managed to keep their pedals mechanically simple, while being durable and cheap even if they're not comfortable. Using that as a starting point for a third-party mod kit would be highly preferable to something made from scratch.

They could easy fit a small docking pad on the capitals ships somewhere so small ships acting as tenders could dock with them. Some kind of cargo hatch to cargo hatch docking might work as well. Cargo hatch seems pretty multipurpose after all.

These days the only major bottleneck on most gaming PCs is going to be the GPU. If you have at least an Ivybridge i7 with 16GB of of DDR3 RAM you should still be good for a few more years. My i7 3770k has been holding out remarkably well and I've got it overclocked to 4.5GHz on water.

My GPU is a different story. I've still got a 4GB GTX 680 and while it still gets good framerates in most games, really demanding shit like Star Citizen is kind of choppy. I wouldn't upgrade my GPU just for Star Citizen, but once I can afford a GTX 1080 I am going for it and slapping a water block on that thing.

Some of the most annoying faggots on plebbit/frontier dadvelopment forums like Empire for whatever reason. Christ, Core Dynamics runs the fucking combat ship game, and it's canon that the federation is very strict about code and conduct regarding alien life. (In both protecting it and blowing it the fuck out when it poses a threat) Whenever the inevitable thargoid invasion happens, I'm siding with the faction deploying the murder fridges built for fucking shit up rather than the faction shitting out flying iphones while having its own longass episode of space Game of Thrones.

I haven't checked back on star citizen news in a while, have they fixed the insane amount of clipping issues or at least figured out how they're planning on fixing it?
You don't need to worry about crimestat respawn penalties since you can run through the closed door.
You don't need a suit since you can clip out through the floor and EVA around space just holding your breath(Which is actually pretty interesting that lack of air isn't really modelled and its just the depressure that kills you)
Getting back in the Mustang Alpha in space is nearly impossible since you'll clip through the ceiling.

17 Draconis is the quickest way. Donations out the ass. Luckily you only need rank 5 for the FAS, so it shouldn't take too long or cost you too much. Bring a ship with at least 40 cargo. The rank up missions offered at the station there are only smuggling/hauling missions and they require about that much space.
>>
>>151913801

I like Elite: Dangerous. I like that it simulates the “boring” parts of the space pirate fantasy. You spent a ton of time driving from place to place and requesting permission to dock and docking and being worried about fuel and saving up for a better ship and HOLY SHIT A FUCKING PIRATE THIS IS NOW THE SCARIEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME WHAT IF I LOSE EVERYTHING

Boredom is a big part of what makes that experience work. Boredom makes the intense moments that much more intense. You also feel way more like Malcolm Reynolds when you’re sighing and going “WHEN are we going to GET THERE” than when you’re doing big epic space fights.

But! Boredom is boredom, and you have to do something to alleviate the boredom. So you may do exercises, or you may get a beer and a trucker hat and listen to country music so you feel like those rednecks who get killed at the beginning of Starcraft.

Me? I break out my Surface and watch The Good Wife. I roleplay as a feminist space trucker who really likes legal procedurals.

With enough engineer fuckery, probably. If you plan on using it for pvp at all, you'll get fucking dunked by the first person using any thermal shock mods though.
>>
>>151913562
and how the hell would they model 'lack of air'?
>>
>>151915832
Maybe if I turned the Engines to resisting thermals, I could negate the repercussions of firing 4 PAs at once, and resist shock
>>
>>151915920
If you go somewhere without oxygen and don't have a suit you die.
>>
>>151915945
The only good way to combat thermal shock is by putting integrity mods on everything you can and stacking heat sinks. Four medium PAs are going to generate a massive amount of heat no matter how you mod them, and the first thing to go when you start overheating will be your heatsinks. I don't know why they go so quickly, but they do. There's a reason a lot of people are bitching about thermal shock, and that's because it is literally the meta. I can't fucking figure out why they didn't make it work like corrosive shell/scramble spectrum where it needs to actually hit the hull for the effect to work. Gaining heat from lazers hitting fucking shields makes no goddamn sense.

But what makes Elite so compelling isn’t so much about the game as the experience. It’s the tinkering with and the taking out of a performance car for a Sunday drive, not to rack up more miles, nor to break any speed limits, but to just feel the growl of the engine and the wind comb through what’s left of your hair. To remember those carefree days arched over a BBC Micro or blinking angrily into a Lenslok and to forget for a short while that you have to make 357 people redundant in the morning. Elite is a hermetically-sealed escape capsule and it’s the best there is. Hell, you could fire the game up and just sit there on a launch pad and the sounds are enough to carry you away, so strong is your ship’s presence and so absorbing are the station surroundings.

Taking off, tearing through the station entrance a little too fast and just missing a Python, angling for the next jump, scooping fuel from a blazing sun, spinning the camera around your ship to catch its best profile, starting a fight just for the hell of it, seeing smok rise from the command console, hearing the screen crack and precious oxygen escaping into space and landing back at base with seconds to spare – these are the moments that make Elite essential. Trading, missions, mining – not so much. But it’s ok, we’re not going anywhere.

>>
>>151916854
Actually, if thermal shock were fixed in the manner I described, many builds would become viable for pvp. A lot of the effects are pretty damn nice and powerful. Thermal venting is spectacular for beam lasers, corrosive shell/incendiary are great upgrades for MC heavy builds, dispersal field for cannons is really amazing when fighting larger ships, all the shield restoring mods for lasers are really cool and useful for wings, drag munition for missiles are fantastic for chasing down faster ships, plasma slug allows railguns to be used effectively in CZs/RESs, I could go on.

The problem is that the best thing to use, bar none, is thermal shock with only a little room for variation. The meta fucking sucks right now all because thermal shock works way too well. Making it only work on hull strikes is the only real way to fix this problem. This way it would be good for finishing off targets and taking down silent running hull tank builds, not for fucking every engagement.

Fuck I get mad every time I think about how stupid FD was with this shit.

I'm playing Elite: Dangerous and I need a bit of help.

I thought of participating in a conflict as a mercenary. I found this mission here that said to help the Empire in the Pleiades system C2-16.

The marker on the galaxy map sends me in the Gunnovale system. I go there, the marker indicates that I need to land in the Clauss City space station.

And then what? I looked at the mission board and there's nothing there except for some courier jobs.

I looked at the galaxy map and there is no War or Civil War state anywhere to be seen.

What is this? Where's the conflict?

Today this little bit of in-game news dropped:

https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/57ada8c69657baeb6e876c6d

Now I have to ask, what exactly is it the ship builders of the galaxy are working on? A new inter-system jump drive? A new super-long-range jump drive? New ships with specialized FSDs? I guess we will know next Thursday!
>>
>>151926526
Neither is an interesting prospect.

A little gem is that atmospheric friction is also a thing.

Go planetside in something big and fast like a clipper, boost, and when you turn at max speed you'll heat up.
>>
>>151928778
>A little gem is that atmospheric friction is also a thing.
But every planet we land on has no atmosphere. The heat is how FDev explains away the fact that any ship can land anywhere (even Cutters on 9.0 g planets). Our thrusters work superhard and generate heaps of heat. Why we can't do this in normal space? Quick look over there! Ship-launched fighters!

What kind of weapon is good for the vulture?

I kinda hate using ammo consuming weapons since sooner or later i manage to jump into a fight having forgot to restock.

But my burst lasers are getting long in the tooth. Or should i just get horizons and get some engineers to poke my guns?
>>
>>151928932
Twin pulse is the boring but efficient answer. I used 1 beam and 1 cannon back before C3 and 4 multicannons were a thing.
>>
>>151929025

Pulse? Have to admit i was thinking those did too little damage. Is it the sustainability of them that pays off?
>>
>>151929139
Pulses have the best damage per energy of the lasers so you can keep shooting forever. But it's really boring and led me to sell my Vulture.

Later I tried it again I found 1 C3 beam keeps the capacitor busy and then 1 C3 cannon can splat anything it hits. And this setup is a little more interesting than twin pulse.

A little of both. CIG loves to intentionally make ships with glaring design flaws, but the current flight behavior isn't final.

CIG will probably tinker with it to get it fly better after a few patches and they might buff the hp of the wings a bit, but the rest of the issues will stick around.

For the short-range fighters and bombers it will probably end up as
>jump, fly through system, jump, fly to refuel station, fly to jump point, repeat
while the long range ships will be able to go through four or five jumps and systems without caring about fuel.

In the old CR games, the difference between torpedoes and other missiles usually was that torps were dedicated capship killers, able to bypass shields.

Differences in ship handling from 2.4 to 2.5 if anyone cares
>>
>>151938507
The gladiator will be able to use S2 torpedoes, which apparently 2.5 recognizes them as now.

A dilemma I see with Operational range is the escort. Retaliators will obviously have more range than smaller ships, but it gets escorted by those smaller ships like SHs, Gladii, Sabres, or whathaveyou. You're going to need to stop just as frequently since fighters can't keep up in the long distance. I guess the real difference would be the damage. They could very easily make the S3s 4x stronger than the S2s so that people don't just use S2s with Gladiators swarms, but then that's OP, kind of. Also the Gladiator can sort of be a fighter while Retaliators must run as soon as they drop bombs
>>
>>151939287
Holy christ the constellation is whale tier now
>>
>>151939198
Glad swarms for short range, multiple vanguard harbingers for long range hits.

Course they could always just buff the retailator to suck less instead.
>>

The starfarer gemni's entire purpose is to refuel military ships mid flight and the larger Hulls are suppose to be able to equip refueling equipment for their escorts as well.

>>151940941
maybe they'll let you re-purpose the explorer ships that have expanded fuel tanks for small scale refueling. There can't be that much actual call for exploration itself

We can already do all of those things, well other than SQ42. Star Marine is a pointless fake Counterstrike game that also happens to use the FPS. But everything the studio who made it originally did has been redone now by les incompetent people, meaning it was 100% a waste of time. Those features are vital, but Star Marine is a waste of time.
>>
>>151943405
A bad excuse.

Systems being in doesn't explain why they keep on making extremely minor tweaks then making massive systemic changes that make those tweaks irrelevant.

Nor does it explain why it takes multiple patches to work out "Yup, Tarantulas are going straight through people's shields and destroying them before they can react, maybe we should just make a quick and dirty change to that"

The point of 2.6 is the introduction of reworked fps gameplay + animations. Star Marine is secondary.

But AC has been a horrible way to balance ship gameplay, because it is nothing like a normal battle at all, trying to balance things AROUND it has wasted a huge amount of time.

The point of AC was never that, it was to give people a chance to test pilot their ships and keep interest in the game and funding going along until the game proper is out. Considering we already have the things that Star Marine was meant to be a preview for, it's now irrelevant.

If you mean what >>151943936 said then fair enough, obviously that is something to look forward to. But Star Marine itself is a waste of time. Updates to animations and FPS in general won't all be in 2.6, they are ongoing and won't stop until release.
>>
>>151942910

I know. But G5 thruster man won't even tell you where he lives before you get out to 5K ly from "spawn", and THEN he wants you to bring 25 unknown fragments before talking to you.
>>
>>151944328
AC is a tiny sphere.

Meta for larger ships fighting smaller is to go as fast as you can and decouple then turn around while flying backwards, so the smaller ship has to fly toward you making it easier to hit. In AC you can do this for a very short period of time before you get blown the fuck out by the simulation boundary.

Secondly, there are flight modes (cruise) that aren't even active in AC.

Perhaps the AC analogy was wrong, but the same can't be said of SM. Because of the nature of the thing, it should emulate actual battles quite well.
>>
>>151942828

see >>151942431

Unknown Artefacts disrupt station services when sold at a station, and that's what's happened here. Try Robigo, it's not far from Sothis.
>>
>>151944328

because it's a deathmatch and not a scenario where you can peace out and run away if you're outgunned so you can reengage later or similar strategies such as that

actual fights are rarely to the death nor do they play out in similar ways to AC, some ships benefit heavily from being able to shift into cruise mode which you cannot do in AC
>>
>>151944345
>They've explictly stated they use AC as a testbed.

I know, and it's been a horrible way to balance gameplay. It was a stop gap until we had the babby PU, great for testing features like customising loadouts, etc, but for actual combat balance, horrible. Now we have the PU, it isn't as useful anyway.

It helped us get to this stage as an early testbed, but for actual balance itself, we can forget everything we learned from AC. Fuck, for most of its life there was an entirely different flightmodel.
>>
>>151944328
AC lacks important limiters like running out of ballistic ammo, having to actually pay for each missile, worrying about being too damaged to get to a station for repairs.
>>
>>151944632
The PU is terrible for that in and of itself, though.

You get way less players and way less engagements to draw data from.

Because arena commander is a vacuum of dogfighting, no variables of energy reading, ambushes, outrunning come into play at all. And if you just keep buffing fighters mobility, speed, and firepower and leave everything else not changing, it's going to be a pretty awful start if you're not a arena commander junkie.

Has anyone ever formalized what's so weird about the Python's flight model? Sometimes I swear that dogfighting in the Corvette is easier despite the Python being objectively faster and more agile. It seems to severely punish getting out of the blue zone even a little bit. I also find it refuses to drift unless you drag it kicking and screaming.

It's weird because basic docking and landing is much quicker than in larger ships, but in combat the Python can feel terribly unforgiving in certain situations.
>>

It's a corvette dude, not a fighter, for legit heavy military ship it's kinda nippy.
>>
>>151946850
There is literally no reason to get a ship without LTI with real money, having a guaranteed ship always there for you no matter how long in the future is the appeal, that and supporting the game. Now that's not to say you can't just keep renewing in game insurance once the one you bought runs out, but seriously if that is your goal, why spend real shekels in the first place? All you just did was deprive yourself of the early game to GET to the point where you can afford the big ship you want. Paying money to remove fun objectives from the game.

>>
>>151948374
Right, I get you.

Insurance won't be that expensive, no, which is why it doesn't really make sense to buy NORMAL insurance with real life money, unless you are just rich and want to help support the game. LTI is that one special thing that I can kinda see why people might invest in, but even then it should only be seen as a donation, as you can get EVERYTHING in game, and the reward of working your way up to them will be one of the key enjoyments of the game itself.

Even when you have a big ship like an Orion, you will still want a smaller, multi purpose ship to get around in like an Avenger btw.

People are making a mistake with downvoting ED, especially on Steam. Instead of shooing people away, we should be shilling it to as many people as possible (that we don't know or care about). Those people will form a new cadre that can be used as a catalyst for change.

I wouldn't have recommended this before NMS but clearly there are a gigantic number of people who are buying in with their Steam refund bux. We need this number to grow as large as possible so that they outnumber the current playerbase. Right now most of them probably see the "Mixed" rating and welp off.

Yes and this current strategy has worked so well so far.
Anyone who could be a moderating influence has fucked off and left Ftroop to the incestuous loop of RIGHT ON CMDRs feeding them bad data.
They obviously care about future sales because they have the whole season system going on, so dangling a cash cow of several thousand new players in front of them is going to have an effect.

Until now nobody who wasn't a huge nerd or born before 1970 had heard of Elite, but now I think a lot more people are going to. Many of them are finding it for themselves anyway, so at the very least we should get out of the way. Short of buying a controlling share in Ftroop I can't think of any way to change things.

Well giving them more money won't work because they'll think they're being rewarded for the retarded shit they do. "People are buying our game? Well, we must be doing something right, keep it up". FDev are one of the devs that there's nothing you can do to change their way of thinking. You cut off income and they blame this for lack of content, you give them income and they keep up their pace because "it's clearly working". There would need to be an ax in management to turn the game around.

Maybe it would only be delaying the problem, but I think having a giant revenue spike and then an equally catastrophic drop would be more effective than the current trickle, spike, trickle that we currently have.
At the very least it would give them many more players to potentially alienate, and I think they are at least business-savvy enough to understand the consequences of that.

You're over thinking this.

There's no silver bullet. There's nothing we can do to secure the future of this game. It's in the hands of the developers and you just gotta hope they'll make the right calls.

>>
>>151952706
Yeah, but there's no "crafting".
It's all basically hauling from one place to another.
You don't use the ore you mined from asteroids and refine it into minerals and use blueprints to produce modules and ships and then sell them personally on the market.
You're just a cog in their economic simulation that adds materials to the system which affects certain production values.

I bought E:D after taking advice from my mates last night. So I have to ask

Why the fuck does anyone play this shitty game, how is travelling 2 hours just to meet up with your friends through boring looking areas supposed to be fun? Quests are just gather, kill or talk to NPC ( station ) just like in old school MMO's. Is this supposed to be a shitty space grind mmo? How can anyone enjoy this garbage.
>>

Is that really it? I could have sworn I tried every button on my keyboard.

Thanks anon

About the only way you can "enjoy" ED is if you have, for instance, played something even worse (a game recently released that somehow broke even more development promises than ED did), or are so mindblowingly depressed that you need anything possible to just distract yourself from wanting to murder yourself.

I guess there's the third option that you're so delusional you can't see the flaws of a product. I mean, just because something has numerous bad parts doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, but you tell a dad his game sucks and he'll fuckin' tell you that you're just awful at it. I really don't understand modern people.

Saitek is like Razer except worse. Razer is overpriced and LED-ridden Gamer-bait, but it's generally of acceptable quality with some exceptions (the disaster with their fightsitck at EVO being the ur example).

With Saitek, they're just as expensive and LED-ridden as Razer, except being shit quality is the expectation and not the exception.

You'd think they would learn by now that skimping on quality control is bad business. Mad Catz's profits have been down in recent years and I'm almost certain that it's because of all of the returns and repairs that they have to process, particularly from the Rock Band 4 instruments and their Saitek line. This is one of the most common reason that electronics companies go under and Mad Catz seems to think they're immune just because they put out something decent once in a while like their Sanwa fightsticks, which is mostly because they used real Sanwa parts.

They seem to have it in their heads that cutting corners will increase profit margins, even though it costs them more money to process, repair and ship all the returned defective products people keep sending back to them than if these people weren't buying their product at all.

They had plenty of opportunity to fix the X-55 design before they launched the X-56, but all they did was change the aesthetics, add LEDs and dual analog thumbsticks while slapping another $50 on the pricetag. The internals are exactly the same and people are getting just as many dead buttons and out of alignment joystick calibrations.

Are they as RNG-dependent as the meme would have me believe?

What's the point of adding engineers to give you some magic module to your ships when ED has no goal or point?

>what do you do in this game?

the upgrades can get seriously good, e.g. giving a corvette FDL-tier agility and actual usable jump range

yes, the RNG is terrible; For example a rank 5 FSD roll can have worse outcome than a rank 3

My X52 at least still works, six years later.

Granted, by "works" I mean "occasionally stops working and have to unplug and plug", but still...
>>
Since E:D uses height maps for planetary generation, the only way to have overhangs or caves and stuff would be to place them on/inside the PG terrain as objects.

Its not difficult to do technically, but FDEV have a lot of other priorities, especially regarding authored content (like new space stations and bases for example). They won't go in hand-placing NMS caves anytime soon...

>>
>>151955595
a recent bugsmashers addressed something similar that may apply in the same way. the ground vehicle camera (buggy for now) applied in much the same way, always tied to the Y axis and would operate on it even if you were on a zone that was at an angle to it, causing all kinds of camera fuckery when you were offline. Abent fixed it so that there was a modifier added to the Y axis calculation at all times, allowing the camera to change it's level with the terrain. I'd imagine they could do something like that with the generation of water.

Aiming isn't garbage, pilots are garbage. Nearly every pilot of a multicrew ship fly's like their in a Merlin....which completely cock-blocks any offensive power having gunners affords them.

No, the materials that make them up. Roberts described being able to scrap materials from componants, like say platinum or some kind of specialized wiring.

Nah. Not with the new item port system.

A "Size 4 shield" doesn't exist anymore. Ships can choose to take many small generators or a larger one, so not impossible you could find a small one.

Only good decision FDev has made so far. That said the X52 used to be the default ED HOTAS since that's what the ingame HOTAS model is based on.

Strictly speaking it doesn't matter, twist-sticks are going to be inherently mediocre even if you can "lock" them, just because of what they have to do in the gimbal for that to work.

I do wonder why they even bothered with the twist when they cap yaw so hard, though.

Fair enough. I don't have a big problem with twist but are there any good non-twist HOTAS around?

Eve model apparently. Saw a comment about it being an MMO and decided to look further and found this in an FAQ on their site.

>We are still currently looking at several options. One of the ideas we like are game time coupons. You can buy these coupons to extend your game time (more or less like a monthly subscription), or trade them with the in-game currency. Very active players who are able to gather enough in-game money to afford the game coupons will essentially play for free. This is their rewards for contributing to the in-game economy. reliant issues:
*You can't leave the seat while in vertical mode
*switching to horizontal mode auto deploys landing gear and dumps you into precision flight mode
*One wing is currently missing it's hard point. May or may be a bug.
*extremely poor yaw moment in vertical mode. Far worse than any ship it's size.
*extremely poor pitch moment in horizontal mode. Far worse than any ship it's size.
*Wings are extremely fragile. And when they're destroyed you lose half of your fire power and half of your maneuvering thrusters rendering the ship nearly unflyable.
*UI panels sometimes fail to deploy correctly.
*sometimes the ship tries to transforms during landing, causing ship to crash into landing pad.
*By measurements taken by players the ship should not be able hold the stated amount of cargo.
*extremely wide placement of guns causes convergence issue at close ranges.
*transformation gimmick has no purpose besides to make the ship more awkward to use.
>>
>>151994346
Nope. Capital ship battles in this game are pointless. They jump in with eachother, sit there doing nothing, and then leave when their stuff gets hurt. They literally just sit there and shoot turrets for no reason. It's stupid.
>>
So Reliant is shit now?

>>151994975

Flight characteristics and wing HP could be fixed later I suppose. And the cargo problem impossible to know till cargo system is in. But the no getting out your seat thing is probably here to stay.

>>151996954

Problem was that they went about implementing Walking in Stations in the worst way possible.

They just went "Oh, for the next 18 months we wont be doing anything but work on our WiS project. See you then."

Then they had a pretty severe leak where their internal memos got leaked and several of the devs eagerly championed "lets monetize the everything" point of view.

There was also a second disaster that i dont quite remember, but it was pretty bad.

And then they released the WIS and it turned out to be a small room the size of a constipated Chihuahua`s rectum. And they were talking about how this was a nice first step and now they looked forward to really put down dev time on WiS.

All this happened in under two months and the players went berserk. A massive amount of players unsubscribed and things only calmed down when the CEO wrote a groveling apology.

But from then on any mention of WiS is radioactive.

Such a missed opportunity. If player were using them in a way which broke their design intentions, by breaking base assaults, then add new mechanics to combat it.
Like letting point defense turrets (that are already in the game) target mines that are in gravity fields or lowering their explosive power under a certain altitude.
Or finding a way to make accuracy harder by forcing the player to fly higher with other mechanics that threaten them, make it worthwhile but a challenge.

This is something the should have gotten fdevs excited.

PD would have been enough. "bomber" mines were easy pickings for point defense on any nearby player because it took them a bit of time to get up to speed under gravity with basically zero launch velocity.

What they could have done was add PD turrets to bases that can only be taken out easily from the ground, like by putting a slitted plate over top of them to stop incoming starship fire but leaving the base right on the ground exposed.

That way you'd take those out from an SRV before you can effectively bombard the base.

Hope so. Mostly because I'll probably be out of the loop again later. But doesn't that start today anyhow? Or are they waiting until friday?
>>
>>152017024
That'd suck. What's with the sporadic availability of those ships anyhow?
>>
>>152017215
The devs want to make certain ships limited on launch
>>
>>152017048
They need to use PD more in this game. It looks so cool attacking a planetary base and seeing the Goliath's missiles getting shot down by your PD.

Guys, I've been away for a few years (very ill)

I was curious to know what im able to do in S.C right now (I go the game way before the hanger was even added and have a basic bitch ship)

No mans sky fucking failed so I refunded that shit like a pair of used boxer shorts.

I've read the patch notes but due to my works internet I cannot see them.. (currently on a oil rig)

In short Can I fly and warp about in space? Can I land on a planet?
>>
>>152017682
You can fly and warp around in the mini persistent universe and do some missions at glorious 15fps. No clue about planets or how much there actually is though.

>park ship nearby
>sneak in, take out generator
>oh shit goliaths
>haul ass back to the ship
>warning incoming missile
>a stream of green bolts streaks by overhead
>missile destroyed
>what
>the PD turret on top of the ship still works while it's parked

Planets are later this year coming in patch 2.7.

If you haven't booted up the game in more than a year would recommend doing so now or when the new patch 2.5 is out of testing which should be less than two weeks or maby even this week.

You'll get a few hours of fun out of it.
>>
>>152017815
there was a list a few threads back of the upcoming patches and features planned
>>
>>152017858
Attacking bases made me realise it can be pretty important where you put your PD. Which is annoying cause the outfitting view is so close in it can be hard to see where the utility hardpoint actually is on the ship.
>>
Someone make a new thread. I can't I'm on mobile.
>>
>>152018441

Yeah I just install the thing and check in debug cam
>>
>>152018514
Yeah I did that to double-check. I was flying a FAS and discovered that all the utility points are on the bottom and the 2 back ones can't fire PD forward cause they're blocked by the ship structure.

Does any sort of High-Tech Systems exist near Sothis that sells High-End Fuel Scoops for the Type-7? I made the mistake of longrange hauling with a shitty scoop and now I'm stuck recharging with 18.3/s
