I am so fucking good at this game. I am the fucking king. I once tried to die pressing the dpad up to deplete my life but when I was about to die the game fucking exploded and my tv told me that I am the fucking best player in the world and cannot die no matter how much I woukd try to be bad. Is the saw spear a strength or skill weapon, or both? What I'm looking at says Str 7 D and skill 8 D. I get that the number is the minimum to wield but what's up with the letters? Kind of a weird way to represent a stat.

The letter represents how well the weapon scales with that stat. They'll usually go up when you upgrade the weapon as well. The Saw Spear is a skill/quality weapon, the counterpart to the Saw Cleaver, which is a strength/quality weapon.

You really need to learn his attacks and dodge most of them.

Also, make sure to only attack once or twice during his recovery, a third time he'll catch you and combo you.

Witches is pretty easy. If you let the Mad Things pile up they can get you, and the Witches have a stun bolt that opens you up for a near or total instakill, but if you avoid those it's the easiest fight in the game.

Easiest boss in Dark Souls 1. He's actually kinda difficult if you face him at a lower level, but the area before him is pretty tough for the beginning of the game, so almost all first time players come back way later, and end up completely destroying him.

The runes are all interchangeable and free to use and change whenever you want, honestly just mess around with them, slot new ones in, see what you like. I always take two stamina and one +4 vial runes. There's runes that do all kinds of stuff, but you need to search every nook and cranny for them, they can be easily overlooked. Someone are even only available in chalice dungeons.

They're pretty self-explanatory. You may find yourself switching them out based on the situation, but you'll probably find the ones that work best for your build and run with them. There are ones more obviously beneficial than others, and some that only apply for specific playstyles, so find the best ones for you.

The song "Sacred Perish" has some elements which i think reference the character creation theme from Demon's Souls (Alex Roe is a big 'souls' fan).

In general his tracks are more immediate and dense than the game's ost so they're a bit more listenable outside the game imo. His song 'Mergo Reborn' (not on the new album) is one of my favorites from him, legit wish it was in the game.

It's good so far, but I'm waiting for more of a tune than just cacophonous orchestra and wailing chorus. That's one of my issues with Souls games, some themes are just so bland, DaS3 had that problem BIG time. Wolnir's theme had an atmosphere to it and Dancer's theme was very different to the usual 'epic chorus' shit.

Really, anywhere from 40-50 is fine. I like to aim for 45 because that leaves you at 1800 health, but my main build ended up having 41 vit with 1700 health because I needed points in other stats. I never feel like I don't have enough health though.

I'd suggest you level your other shit before putting anything else into vit and then seeing where your build is. If you still need more levels to hit your preferred or wanted meta, then you put it into vit to pad it out.

Every time I fight Paarl he's a nigger until I change my strategy. You need to get under his chin. I forget how but if you get up in his face and make him do the swipe attack, you can dodge into him and come up under his chin almost every time. Which makes you safe from everything but the explosions. Wail on his head a little but to stun and break the electricity and then he's your bitch. If you're lucky, you can keep on his head, keep pounding him, and basically keep combo stunning him as he tries to reignite the electricity.

Haven't used rifle spear but I think a saw R1 has enough vertical to fuck his face up.

The trick is I know this and going back in on another NG run he still dilated my asshole a LOT before I relearned that trick. It's a night and day thing.

But everything good from this fight comes from getting in and under him and beating on his head. You can't easily skirmish with him.

If you have been doing birdgirl's route you can wear the yellow man's suit for lightning def.

At what point does skill falloff really start to happen? I have a +6 threaded cane and 25 skill. Assuming I consider upgrading the cane, at what point would I be wasting my time pumping skill?

It's really easy if you stick to one Stat for scale damage in the beginning and up to 25, everything else goes to VIT and whatever END you need

I use 13 END, 50 VIT, 25 (SCALE ATK stat) and the rest is usually whatever default stat it is

Note that Arcane and Bloodtinge is going to be hard as fuck to do damage unless you farm for gems giving you those types of damage boost

Ah so these are your stats currently? Well you're either gonna go 50/25 Str/Skl for Strength Quality or 25/50 for Skill Quality. End is good there but if you want more then don't go any higher than 20, with a Stamina rune or two you should have enough. Vit should be 40-50 with 1 or 2 HP Runes. You can leave Bloodtinge and Arcane alone for another playthrough. If you're gonna go 25/50 for Skill Quality then 10 Bloodtinge for the Reiterpallasch is good. 10 Arcane for the Logarius Wheel if 50/25 Strength Quality, 15 Arcane for a couple of Hunter Tools.

Going 25/25 Str/Skl for the rest of the game is good enough. Strength builds have the luck of turning almost any Skill weapon to Strength weapons with Heavy Abyssal gems, but those require finishing Chalice Dungeons and doing some grinding in FRC dungeons which will sound like a nightmare once you've reached to that point. Bagmen are brutal, but there are definitely worse things.

Bagmen can easily be cheesed with poison throwing knifes. A single throw starts the damage tick, two complete ticks kills them.
I always use this tactic in hypogean gaol at lower levels.

I personally think they aren't great ones themselves, but rather work for them, as kind of "worldly agents" for the overworldy great ones. They bleed red so they aren't kin, and seem to carry out specific tasks of transporting people with specific features (blood shot eyes) or items (tonsil stones) to designated areas, of defending places.
It seems they don't really interact with people, maybe they aren't even able to understand us, but are worshipped as gods anyway by the church, hence the guide stating them as 'false gods'

You can convert the Beast Claw but I would'nt recommend it due to the Beasthood only affecting physical damage and you'll take more damage without benefit as the bar goes up. Amygdala Arm is split damage so it can't convert, plus it's more of a Strength weapon than Str/Arc.

Gem farming can be pretty boring solo but it really helps if you co-op. If you want a specific gem you should find some glyphs online, there's a link in the OP for that stuff. Your Isz glyph was a pretty good one for layer 3 Elder if you can rush through Cannon Giant and Maneater Boar.

You can't really luck-win easily, you have to not be where he attacks and take advantage of your openings. Anything less is rapehorse. I have a 500GB PS4, it serves me well enough, but the games do eat up space, it's true. It's more than 3-4 games, but you will end up deleting stuff to clear up space sometimes.

Apparently 1TB use older technology or something for actual space regulation or something, I'd check that out before you go buy.

Alright, I keep seeing others bring this up. What does /bbg/ think of the NPCs in Bloodborne? I found them all to be more interesting than the other Souls games, even though their stories are shorter and more obscure to actually find. DaS1 and DeS both had a handful that I found interesting, but I enjoyed almost all of Bloodborne's NPCs for one reason or another.

Up on the highest part of the rafters is a large oil urn hanging above the crucified beast. Hit it and you'll set the corpse ablaze taking out most of the beasts in the explosion. Be warned, you can only do this once and the beasts respawn.

Alternatively you can just slowly walk down the stairs and when you reach the main room sprint to the other side. It takes a moment for the beasts to realize your there and they don't run too fast.

Host is a misleading title. I believe in Japanese he's called Master of the Nightmare.

The first thing to understand is Nightmare is not a literal title, it isn't an actual dream in someone's head. It's a reference to H.P. Lovecraft's Dreamlands stories set in a fantastic realm humans can reach via sleep, but other creatures get there in different ways. The Nightmare in Bloodborne is an alien dimension where the Great Ones come from.

Memeolash is heading the Mensis ritual in the Nightmare, he's the manager, he's hosting the party, basically. He was actually bi-locating, he was in the Nightmare and the 'waking world' at once, but died here and kept existing there.

I find Mensis easier than Yahrhar.

Mensis' shittiness lies in its beginning area with the frenzy, after that, once you get past Edgar, it's a fairly standard area. Post-Memelord is some bird-dogs and Shadows and Pigs, all of which are easy enough to take out and fun if you're careful about it. And that's it, Wet Nurse are you're done.

Yahar'gul is a fucking deathtrap however because the first thing you're faced with is a stairs full of dudes and an Amy trap. It gets even better, the whole run to the second lamp is absolutely horrible because of the laser Amy which wouldn't be half as bad if it weren't for the addition of the fucking women, too. THEN you get past the second lamp and are faced with the three hunters, then the main street with the corpse pile things that can sometimes just OHK or stunlock you to death by themselves, and you can end up fighting about five at the same time. Then the run to Advent Plaza is a projectile nightmare because it's a long fucking boss run if you happen to die to One Reborn.

Hemwick is actually totally optional, you can do it pretty much any time but it's worth it to do it early to just have the rune tool.

And yes, it is! Once you beat Amelia, when you go back to the Dream, there'll be an item at the bottom of he stairs, right in front of you. Grab it and then go to the Cathedral Ward and go to where you find the Hunter Set. You may have noticed something happen there before, this time, don't dodge it.

Be warned, the DLC is bastard hard at your level and late game material, but by God is it fantastic. You can go to it whenever you want.

Just get good at viscerals. The game gets much, much easier when you learn how to parry. This is my second time through, of course, but I couldn't parry on my first run and it was a bitch. I've gotten good at it now and don't have much issue. Just be cautious, learn to parry, and go for the side of the legs and you'll be fine. If you have trouble with the Vicar (who kicked the SHIT out of me my first play), you can summon Old Hunter Henriet, or a player if you have +.

Also speaking of bosses I honestly found Father Gascoigne almost a tiny bit easy once I kinda "got it". He's the one so many players apparently give up on but in my opinion BSB was a lot worse. I guess it is all about approach.

Consider bringing numbing mist and fire paper, all the same. The Father is easy if you think to use the music box (and get good at parries). BB is a mix of caution, preparation, and measured aggression.

I actually never found the music box. Didn't parry him either because I hadn't figured out how yet, at the time. I just kinda figured out his routine I guess. If I fought him again now I'd parry all day long though. Would've made it much easier.

Got another question, on leveling. My current attributes are Vit 25, End 16, Str 25, Skill 18, Blood 7 and Arc 7. I have been told I can ignore the last two on my first character but what would you recommend focusing on for now? I'm mainly using the axe but I recently started putting points in skill so I'd be able to dick around with other weapons too. I was also told the attributes soft cap at 25 so that's why I stopped my Str and Vit there for now. Not sure the best way to go forward at this point.

A good rule of thumb is if you're building for pure STR or SKL weapons, you want 50 in the appropriate category. That doesn't mean you should forget VIT and END of course. 25 is a good place to get and pause if you want to experiment with skill weapons, and there are weapons that scale pretty evenly with both so it's not wasted. However, if you really like pure scale weapons like Threaded Cane and Hunter Axe, keep pumping their corresponding stats.

The way I normally do it is get Vit and End to 25, which you have, and then start pumping my main weapon stat. I wouldn't worry about Bloodtinge or Arcane the first run. Just find a good niche for yourself in STR, SKI, or balance, and pump accordingly.

Sidenote: It won't hurt to pick up 30 Vit or End, however, but focus on your weapon stats after 25.

For your first character, I wouldn't worry too bad about stats. Just pump what you feel you should pump.

Most people actually go for the Vit hardcap at 50. The most End you will ever need is 20, absolutely no more, you can even find runes that increase your stamina. If you wanna dicka round with all the weapons, go for 50 Strength (since I personally think Strength is great for a first playthrough) and 25 Skill, this is called a quality build and allows you to play with all the weapons, barring maybe three specialized Bloodtinge/Arc weapons.

I would recommend, at least on the first playthrough, maybe pump up Arc to about 18 or even 20. That way, you get access to some fun little items like Beast Roar.

Once you've played through and feel comfortable, go back and start a new character with a planned build. For now, try it all out and have fun.

I think it depends on the weapon you use. Most bosses and what not, it's safe to hit three times before running away, so some people don't think you need the extra End. However, as a Skill user, my weapons go really fast and stagger so I can keep up a combo and like the extra End. It's all subjective, I think.

Keep leveling Vit, you want to end up with 40-50 for endgame (DLC is tough and Chalice dungeons are a bitch).

Stats softcap at 25 and again at 50. What this means is that at 99 you have 100% of the bonus you will ever get from STR (duh), at 50 you will have 85% of the bonus you will have at 99 (meaning those last 49 points give about 1/6 of the bonus first 50 did). At 25 you have 50% of the bonus you get at 99.

Moral of the story is if you are using STR weapons lots, it's worth while taking it to 50. But easing SKL is also good because most weapons have at least some SKL scaling and since its your first playthrough trying everything is nice. Skill also improves Visceral damage, which is great.

I personally have no problem running with base END since there are runes that add a bunch of stamina to your pool, but a buddy of mine went up to 25 because he couldn't stand having less. It's entirely preference I think, but running less END is definitely for more experienced players.

Each point of Endurance gives you 2 extra stamina. Meanwhile a single Anti-Clockwise rune will give you 20% (or 15%/10% if you havnt done dungeons yet).

At 16 end you have 102 Stamina, using the 15% rune you get 117 stamina. You'd have to level END up to 23 to get that. Now imagine with the 20% Rune, or a combination of 20% and 15% if you really want to attack 12 times without stopping.

15 END should be the stopping point unless you are doing a pure STR or SKL build and have extra points laying around.

Visceral damage is not based on weapon damage, your fist works just as well. It's a weird formula that scales off overal level increasing the base damage and then has S scaling in Skill.

It also counts as Thrust damage, which means that even though it's damage is seperate to your weapon, if you have Physical or Thrust gems slotted into it, your Visceral damage will increase.

It's Litterally thrust damage.

Go check it for yourself. Do a Visceral with no gems, then do another one with 3 thrust gems. Then just for good measure use Blunt gems and you will see they don't do anything.

Cainhurst has a few lying around and the Gargoyles drop them (abiet very rarely), Nightmare frontier also has a couple from the large Wandering Madness's in the second half. You could also sucicide run through the first DLC area and pick some up. Or if you are REALLY dedicated you can make it to Lower Loran Chalice dungeon and farm chunks from an easy layer 1 boss.
