He's also a beast so serrated weapons and fire are extra effective.

Honestly I feel like Souls combat would be better for a WW1 inspired horror/fantasy. Slower, heavier combat to denote the relative primitiveness of the technology, every attack having to matter due to insanely high lethality, shitty improvised weapons, upgrade materials come in the form of military-grade metals and not just shit from blasted up farmer's houses.

I say start taking cues from the British movie Deathwatch, where a group of soldiers have to survive a seemingly living trench possessed by evil. All kinds of great WW1 imagery, bodies nearly unrecognizable rising from mud, stepping into liquefying corpses, barbed wire snaking around the place, omnipresent fog and purgatorial feel, good movie if you haven't seen it.

What's the best END for the saw-cleaver?

So I just got Bloodborne for £15 with no DLC and basically I suck at it. I am up to the Forbidden Woods and I just keep dying, I kill one group of enemies then move on to the second group and die. Progress is slow to say the least. I just came here because I browse a few generals and remembered this one, I have limited experience with the souls games (although I am loving the atmosphere and the lore of BB its fucking brilliant) So have we any advice on how I can go about getting good? A way to practice that is not just trial and error?

Don't jump into groups, try to lure them one by one. Or just run past them. Level Vitality to at least 20 for the beginning, you'll aim for 40-50 end game. You can live with base End if you're good enough. If you want more then don't go higher than 20 with a Stamina Rune or two.

First playthrough should start with Military Veteran. Go 50/25 or 25/50 Strength/Skill. Disregard Bloodtinge and Arcane, those should be reserved for another playthrough as they can be frustrating for new players. 40-50 Vitality is where you should stop. You can try to live without leveling Endurance but if you feel that you need more stay at 15-20. Stamina runes help compensate for the "low" Endurance.

Leave so you don't get spoiled and try to solo every boss at least once. If you need help you can ask here for someone. Most Old Hunter summons are shitty and better serve as distraction than actual help.

His second phase is pretty much a fuck you to anyone that cant use a fast weapon or get good damage on viscerals.

Having parry damage be tied to skill is probably the biggest problem I have with this game. Its just dumb.

Military Vet is a good start since it has good STR and SKL. For your first run, I'd get STR and SKL to 25 so you can play with all the weapons and find out what you like. Don't worry about Bloodtinge or Arcane (though you can get Arcane to 15 to play with some of the Hunter's Tools).

Main Gameplay Advice: Git Gud at viscerals. Just as an enemy starts its swing, you can shoot it and get a parry for tons of damage. Threaded Cane is a good beginner weapon since it's fast and staggers, but any will do. Choose whichever you like.

Bloodletter and Simon's Bowblade are the two Bloodtinge weapons they introduced. 28 Strength allows you to use the Gatling Gun and Church Cannon. Madaras' Whistle is a Bloodtinge Hunter Tool. There's also a Piercing Rifle gun but not many people use it cuz it's slow.

After getting murdered by Paarl with 20,000 echoes after a lifetime of getting raped up and down the halls by the Blood-starved Beast and the fucking Hemwick Witches inside the gaol, I quit pretty much immediately, and a month later when I reload I'm here. A similar thing happened with the Dancer in DaS3, except that was caused by being teleported into her bossroom after I had aggro'd her.

I can't decide if I like the game more online or offline. Offline has the superior lonely and forlorn atmosphere while Online is fun to co-op.

I find that having 1 phantom/NPC makes things easier because most bosses can't handle splitting their attention, and the health boost isn't so huge that it outweighs that. At 2 summons the health boost is significant and can make it hard to get them down, especially if they have attacks or combos that one shot you

Blade of Mercy is my absolute favorite weapon so I'm probably biased. If you like speed, BoM. If you like heavy hits, HMGS. BoM is still my personal choice, but I haven't really given the other two a chance as I haven't built for them.

That way you'll have tried out all 3 of them and can do NG+ with your favorite.

Hate to break it to you, but Burial Blade and Blade of Mercy are both off the table as far as arc builds are concerned. Since they have the little bit of arcane damage, you can't convert them to elemental damage, and they do so little of it that nourishing gems won't get you any real benefits.

I'd suggest statting anywhere from 16/12 str/skl to 20/12, and then pumping arc to 50.

BoM and Burial Blade are both skill based weapons. The arc scaling is trash on them and exists for lore/preventing elemental gems being used. Go with HMS if you're after an arcane character.
