I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as "Faster Attacks", is in fact, Support/Faster Attacks, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Faster Attacks Support. Faster Attacks is not a Path of Exile element unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Support Gem system made useful by the Path of Exile corelibs, utilities and vital system components comprising a full game as defined by GGG.

Many gamers use our Support system every day, without realizing it. damn, great arpg fan here. why is it that these games is like this, i mean when the new season starts it gets hyped the shit out for about 2 weeks if even that. I'm talking about both Diablo 3 and PoE here, absolutely love 'em both! very nice, both of them, got theirs ups and downs. i was d3 guy at first then started playing poe and just now recently i've gotten the hang of the game and understand the mechanics little better and actually got a build which does soemthing. anyways. i hate the communities of both of them, so damn hard to find good guys to play with, at the start of season when every roleplayer in the world plays the game you might get lucky and get someone and if you're really lucky you can get one in the end of season too when it's filled with circle jerks and absolute shitters(same thing actually). but getting a full party of capable players with iq more than their shoe numbers, that's fucking impossible. damn, what i would give for a nice full party of nice friends that'll know their shit.

PoE is shit compared to Diablo LoD.

Trading runes > trading currency. It cost no more than six high runes to make some of the best items in the game, runewords. Any player could rush others for Forge high runes and trade up. Players could also save up Perfect Gems to trade up to high runes. Thus any player could reasonably create any build by collecting a few high runes and crafting. Many of the comparative items in PoE cost at least 10x as much or are 10x as difficult to obtain. An Exalted Orb rarely drops, the trade ratios constantly shift causing more frustration for new players. An Exalt can go for 20c -> 100c thanks to all the "market experts" in PoE. This is all thanks to the inane currency fragmentation and constant need to use currency to do everything. The only thing you needed currency for in Diablo 2 was repairs and gambling. The actual currency in Diablo 2, runes, produced you a build enabling item. Not a 1 in a million chance at one.

Shopping and gambling in Diablo 2 are a million times better than anything in PoE. You can shop for insanely valuable items in D2 from practically the moment you create your character until the end due to a far more robust economy where players highly value both low and high level items. Where shopping for a valuable item doesn't require you to autism grind masters to level 8. A player could shop for a White base wand, one of the best necro wands in the game, at level 18. A player could obtain the best Assassin item from shopping Claws. Barbs could shop Battle Orders prebuff sticks. You can do this as many times as you want by exiting the zone and entering it again, thus resetting all the shops. You can create a build designed specifically for farming Gold so you can gamble for the best rare and magic items in the game to your hearts content. All you do in PoE is check for Jewelers items once every time you level. That's it.

Crafting in Diablo 2 is simpler and more effective. You can roll affixes that are impossible to obtain through anything but crafting. This makes crafting niche and extremely useful. The difference is PoE places an extremely autistic barrier for entry but rewards knowledge. Diablo 2 doesn't place an autistic barrier while rewarding knowledge through better and more intricate game design.

Objectively wrong. Hellforge quest could only yield a Gul rune at best, officially the highest mid-rune. The next tier rune, Vex, is the first to be considered a high rune.

You would need 2 Guls to transmute into 1 Vex (the lowest high rune). 2^2 Guls for an Ohm, 2^3 Guls for a Lo, 2^4 for a Sur, 2^5 for a Ber, 2^6 for a Jah.

Enigma (Jah Ith Ber), one of the if not the most popular runeword, would therefore cost you 2^5+2^6 = 96 transmuted Gul Runes to craft from scratch.

This is akin to saying that because you only need 5 ex for a t1 unique in PoE, it's easy to buy them if you drop one chaos from time to time.

Now that we (and by we I mean you and thus we) have established Diablo 2 as the vastly superior game, let's talk about another way in which Diablo 2 shits all over PoE: Itemization.

In PoE, there are really only three valuable item types, which can be reduced further down to 2: Rare, Crafted and Unique. Crafted is just Rare. There are also Corrupted items of course. These are essentially rare items with an additional pool of affixes. And there are only a handful of item types in total. Additionally, there are White and Magic items for a total of four different kinds of item rarities. Of all these items, the only really high demand items are rares and uniques thus meaning that the vast majority of items you will use, trade and find are rare and unique. Most players will be too poor to craft from white items. Magic items are flat out worse than rare items. Corrupted items are more like a niche gamble than an item type. Crafted items are just rare items with another rare affix.

In Diablo 2, there are White, Magic, Rare, Unique, Set, Crafted, Runeword and Ethereal items. Each valuable in their own right and valuable to other players. Each irreplaceable by the other, highly desirable and very valuable. For example, a perfect superior white base is the absolute best item for rolling runewords in. Some white bases are better than others but suffice to say, players are always look for good white bases because they are high demand and extremely useful and valuable. Magic items can roll an affix range that rares cannot thus while Magics are generally beaten by rares, for some things, they cannot be beat. For example, Jewelers/Life armors with 4 sockets and 100 life only obtainable on Magic. Jewelers/Deflecting Shields only on Magic. +6 prebuff items only on Magic.

Rare items can roll higher damage ranges than anything in the game, making them the best pvp items and unlike PoE, Diablo 2 actually had a lively pvp scene. Rare rings, amulets and circlets could roll better affixes for certain builds. Sets were generally best kept for their bonuses rather than complete sets. One of the most used sets in the game, Tals, was kept partially on MF builds for the highest MF total possible. MF'ing was one of the most useful ways to play the game. Runewords are all some of the most build enabling items in the game and often most powerful. Crafted contained totally unique affixes allowing impossible builds. By way of direct comparison, PoE gets BTFO by Diablo 2 with 8 irreplaceable different item "rarity" types to PoE's 4 with only 2 of those being truly irreplaceable.

Supply and demand. Runewords made runes Gul and up be seen as equally valuable. Ists in particular were extremely easy to move. While you may have slight trouble moving a Gul = 1hr, generally speaking, most players didn't care because they could exchange it to others at the rate of 1hr, regardless of your personal opinion of what they should be worth. Um was also extremely valuable because players were always trying to cap their resists and slotting an Um in was an easy shortcut without sacrificing gear slots.

You could also save up 40pgems and due to crafters constantly needing them you could easily trade them for a high rune.

I have extensively botted in d2 so I know from experience how rare LEGIT high runes are, that is those that were found naturally and not duped. The bot could run Countess, all bosses, and superchests. Even running 4 to 5 bots 24/7, it would be a rare occurrence to see a high rune drop after a week of botting.

Now compare a legit player (who has no access to any mobility without Enigma or being a sorceress) farming on his own maybe 6 hours a day with an extremely efficient bot with built-in maphack, that runs 24/7.

The legit player:
- is about 2 or 3 times less efficient (no maphack, even if he does, it takes time to travel, can not open every (super)chest automatically)

40 perfect gemss would net you a Pul rune last time I played. Half of an Um Rune. You would need 40*2^9 = 20480 perfect gems for a Ber rune. Since flawless gems were the highest tier that dropped (exception of Hellforge quest), and you needed 3 flawless for a perfect, that would be 123k flawless gems to trade for an Enigma. In, short, no, not by a mile. The "concept of imbuing" exists in PoE but the important gameplay elements that make it desirable are missing and homogeneous. In Diablo 2, Imbuing is a quest. This allowed players to create a service out of imbuing. Also, because of the way Character Level works in Diablo 2, players could level a character to, "xx" level and have the best chance at rolling specific affixes. This was great for rolling LLD items. PoE you just find the base and alch the item. Nothing else matters.

Prophecy started in early June 2016 and introduced the new NPC Navali, as well as the Silver Coins she would accept in exchange for quests. These quests introduced new goals and rewards in the world of Wraeclast. Prophecy was released without an accompanying expansion and was the main feature of the 2.3.0 release. Prophecy contained a lot of content, as well as having a fully-voiced NPC with nearly six thousand words of voice acting.

Prophecy worked well as a league, with high player engagement. Players enjoyed having new things to do during the levelling process, as well as some of the new rewards, such as the very popular fated uniques.

When players reached maps, we found the Prophecy content wasn't pitched as well as we would have liked. Players did not like backtracking, and felt compelled to do prophecies in areas they did not want to revisit. We made adjustments as the league went on which improved it for endgame play.

Players were very quick to ask about keeping Prophecy in the main game. The fated uniques were particularly desired items. We were asked if these could be gained in alternative ways in the event that Prophecy as a whole did not carry over.

Several factors - the access to specific uniques and the fated uniques, the levelling benefits, the varied gameplay early, late and for second (and third, etc) character, and the amount of content and effort devoted to making the expansion - all led to the decision to roll Prophecy into the core game.

You won't see Navali immediately when you get to the first town. Since Navali adds an extra layer of tasks for players to complete, we did not want her competing with (and potentially disrupting) the integral early portions of the questing experience. We pushed it a little as we wanted it to be used, but knew if it went out too high it would only be temporary. As part of the core game, this unique heavily distorts bow use. We know we will be changing this item, and we'll need to assess all the Prophecy content for going into the live game.


We are also excited for Prophecy being in the core game for another reason. We want to make more content for it. When you add a new game element, it isn't always clear how much stuff you will get to make for it. We call this design space. Some games elements feel like they should offer a lot, but are limited in what you can make for it, others are deep wells of content. Prophecy had far more designed for it than we could have made in the time we had to make it. It is a deep well of interesting stories, fights and rewards.

One of the worst mistakes you can do as a new player is to overthink defenses and mechanics. Stack life (~140-150%+ by level 60) because you don't need damage to level and try a build, see what works, that's about your entire job as a noob. Knowledge will come along the way.

Don't worry about keystones, defenses, defensive layers, uniques, ascendancies. You don't know what you're looking for so there's no easy way or definite answer to help you and your build.

Note that he talks very little about game mechanics or defensive layers, that's because you don't need much to know. He takes MoM and Templar gets a fairly straightforward tanky tree so if you don't skip life clusters you should be fine.
