It was 6 years ago, but I'll never forget. During the same week that the 3.55 CFW's were being released, MvC3 came out.

I try to keep everything 1:1 as much as possible. I use filesystem compression on my NAS only. Zips tend to not play well with all emulators.

WiiU is almost complete but finding .wud (wiiu isos) is near impossible. Everything people upload is done as folders because of loadiine.

3ds is complete. I have a separate set of games I actually care about that are decrypted.

My kids appreciate it more than I do I think. I enjoy collecting but its mostly for them. The classics are still new to them. Warms the heart seeing my 4 year old having a blast playing Final Fight.

Shit gets expensive though. I buy harddrives on sale at around the $100 price point so I can get the most bang for my buck without crying because I lost a drive (drives DO die). I have each array set up as 6+2 so I can lose two drives at any given time without losing data. Nothing worse than replacing a drive (which takes all day) only to have a second drive die thus losing everything.
>>

N3DS or Vita. If you want to believe the shills and buy some ugly ass Android powered device and waste your money, that's entirely up to you
>>
>>150665920
What would I need to doto aetup Brave Fencer Musashi and Sega CD emulation on a Vita since I assume it would take more work that android or Linux or Dingux based systems?
>>
>>150666237
On the Vita, as of right now on 3.60, you would run the HENkaku exploit which only involves you going to https://henkaku.xyz/ on your Vita and pressing the install button. At this point, you can install Genesis Plus GX-libretro to play Sega CD games.

As for Brave Fencer Musashi, well:

>>150664885

The exploit exists, it works, but it has a 5% boot rate and needs a bit more work before it can be reliably used.

>ugly ass Android powered device and waste your money, that's entirely up to you
1. who cares if they're ugly
2. they are usually cheaper
3. they can emulate more things better
>>
>>150666428
Hmm thanks!. Guessing Snes should be perfect at this point. How do you go about loading roms and such on this ARK? Can it be uaed to play psp isos?
>>
>>150648503
All this because he refuses to accept that Brunnis's patch reduces latency.
>>
>>150666765
>3. they can emulate more things better
N3DS can reliably emulate NES, SNES, Game Boy, Genesis, Sega CD, Game Gear, Master System, Neo-Geo Portable, Wonderswan, Final Burn Alpha, and MAME

It has full hardware based backwards compatibility with GBA and NDS titles. It can also natively run 3DS titles.

It also has a preliminary port that can kinda run PSX titles at full speed, and if anyone optimizes PCSX-ReARMed for it, it'll easily be able to run many titles at full speed with sound.

On the VIta side, when homebrew is more than little under a week old, it should be able to do everything the N3DS can do, minus NDS and 3DS titles, but plus PSP and Vita titles, along with maybe Dreamcast and the N64.

The N3DS has a 240p screen so the games scale perfectly on it, and the Vita has a beautiful OLED screen.

What Android device cheaper than a N3DS or Vita can do all that? I'm really interested in hearing from you.
>>
>>150666765
I saw only the gpd xd listed. I was wondering if there were a cheaper alternative.
>>
>>150667123
Damn. You I had no idea the N3DS had that much going for it. The screen resolution is a plus for me. Its one of the reasons i do like my GCW.
>>
>>150667642
>Damn. You I had no idea the N3DS had that much going for it.
If you have zero interest in modding it, the New 3DS is a monumental waste of your money. It only uses the enhanced CPU clock speed in Xenoblade Chronicles, Hyrule Warriors Legends, Monster Hunter 4/X, Smash 3DS, and the home menu. You can only play SNES VC titles on the New 3DS as well.

If you do have any intentions of modding it, the New 3DS is the PSP of 2016. All hail the New 3DS
>>
>>150668093
Yeah i'm gonna pick one up somwtime soon then. What size SD cards does it support?
>>
>>150668306
>What size SD cards does it support?
"Officially", it supports up to 32GB SDHC cards, and doesn't support 32GB+ SDXC cards.

But I own a 128GB SDXC card, and as long as you format them as FAT32, the New 3DS and even the regular 3DS will support anything.

Just remember, when you format it, format it so it has the biggest cluster size possible.
>>
>>150668093
If you mod it, you can use the CPU power for all games. It helps in a lot of games. I know Pokemon is one where it sometimes goes to like 15fps without it.
>>

don't seem to actually function at 100% stable game speed on a NTSC-U copy. 200% game speed obviously still forces the game to run at 2x speed, therefore 60fps, but with the undesirable speed increases/audio distortion.

Anyone know anything?

>>
>>150668540
Yeah, I use Skeith CFW and have 804mhz + the L2 cache enabled at all times. It's honestly like playing on an entirely different system now with how little frame drops there are. Hell, MGS3D, the joke port that can't stay above 12 FPS runs without any slowdowns on the N3DS, and it has full c-nub support for aiming.

But Konami will never release a patch that enables the clock speed because fuck Kojima, am I right?

>>150668806
>Cool.32 is enough for me on the emulation side.still use the biggest cluster size?
If you literally only care about emulation, then it doesn't matter. Still format it with the largest cluster size just incase you change your mind in the future and want to try out Pokemon Sun and Moon or some shit.

>Damn this just gets better. I beat Tales of the Abyss and Senran Kagura are even better on it now.
No slowdowns at all in Tales of the Abyss, Senran Kagura still has some slow downs though. Nowhere near as many as before at least.
>>
>>150668991
Yeah. I don't really have issue with buying the 3ds games or such. I'm really in it for older stuff. I really wanna play alundra 2 and dragon valor. Psp runs them but at least Musashi has its slowdowns which can be distracting. Dragon Valor has some pretty specific instructions to get it working last i checked. And I'm hoping Lunar 2 won't have the issues it has on PSP Sega CD games are a big plus. Always wanted to play popful mail.
And thats great news about both those games. Never bothered me really but now its going to be an even better experience.

Looking to buy a psp as an emulation machine. What version of the psp is the best for emulation and hacking
>>
So dolphin master or ishiruka?
>>
>>150680818
Get an N3DS or Vita instead. PSP's were great, but they are outdated now.
>>
>>150680818
I'd say the 2000 and 3000 are the best, especially since they're easier to hack. The 1000 has to be physically modified to hack. 2000 is better than the 3000 in that you don't need to rerun the exploit every time you reboot the system (though the process takes less than 10 seconds). I'd suggest against
>>150680928
suggestion though. The N3DS is easy to hack but noticeably more expensive and the emulation scene isn't as large. The Vita is great (since it also has PSP CFW boot) but you need buy a specific game off the PSN Store before it gets taken down to get the exploit and the process is a piece of shit.
>>
How easy is it to emulate on vitas?
>>
>>150680928

>>150680818
PSP doesn't make a good emulation machine at all, stop this meme. You have to run SNES games half busted with frameskipping out the ass. All the PSP should be used for are PSX games and maybe PSP games.
>>
So I'm a really big fan of the "hub" that's used for Sega Genesis & Megadrive Collections. The virtual CRT with scanlines and jazz in a virtual setting is really neat (at least according to be nostalgia). Is there anything like this except where I don't need to shell out $7 for a few 20 year old games?

The closest thing I've found is New Retro Arcade, but the TV is too big and flashy to be what I'm looking for (also it sucks performance).

What goes through the minds of people who write an emu for say Neogeo or some system not many people liked? Perhaps they liked it as a kid and want to help out the people who were like them and appreciated a niche product or maybe they want to make sure one more system is preserved for history. But it's something that is under the radar of excitement of the emulation of say a PS2 or a Wii. It's a "thankless job" or a "less thanks than high end project" job at least. They can't be doing it for adulation.

Well for the article
>LCDs tend to have built-in scalers and other processing logic (like onscreen display overlays and image filters) that result in added latency.
You can usually turn all that shit off and turn resolution scaling to be done on your GPU in your driver settings.
>Good panels with scalers are even worse. Pretty much the only way to reduce this is to sacrifice quality and aim for grossly inferior TN panels full of terrible viewing angles, inconsistent colors, and dithering artifacts.
Which also seemed kinda silly because the only thing that combats a 1440p 8-bit TN panel is one of those fucking ridiculous $2000 CRTs that probably has worse image quality nowadays.
I also kinda wish he would've mentioned how desktop compositors introduce latency and frameskipping.
As for the Libretro dude he said some incorrect shit about how g-sync works in the thread. Not intentionally I'm sure, there's a ton of misinformation out about syncing technologies.

If you are talking about this type of scaling (pic related) GPU scaling is slower than Display scaling.
It was confirmed by a Nvidia engineer years ago in guru3d or overclocker.net forums can't remember exactly where, there were talks about writing a new faster scaling system but it was never mentioned ever again, also by using logic you can deduce the same since is an extra step in the GPU pipeline.
Now with 4K displays becoming more popular talks about changing the scaling mode(probably bilinear) to Integer Scaling Mode using Nearest Neighbor Re sampling are a thing and is being considering by the Nvidia driver team.

The latency is probably like 1ms anyway.

I use windows 8.1 currently and mednafen specifically shits itself on windowed mode. I know that exclusive fullscreen is always going to run better (it does perfectly) but isn't there any way I can somehow speed up things on the windowed side? I have Dolphin, RA, Snes9x, Higan, PCSX2, mGBA, etc. installed. I'm using a 60hz 1080p monitor (without g/freesync) connected to a 660 ti via DVI.

t b h input latency isn't noticeable. It's there, but for most it isn't a problem (unless you're playing fighting games competitively)
>>
>>150747693
If I play a game like CS:GO in windowed mode on Win10 I can feel input latency. I can't put a number to it but it's there and it's a huge problem.

But I can feel no such latency on emulators. People say it's a problem though so I'm wondering why my senses are so shit that I can't feel it.

retroinvader is for windows and has some sort of configuration for ra cores, but it doesn't work with other emulators.
>>
>>150777378
>why do people accuse me and my fanboys of being circlejerking idiots

>>
>>150779032
It basically just creates a retroarch.cfg file for each emulator and uses command line arguments to instruct RA to ignore the default config file and use the supplied one instead. Technically I think it actually supplies a global config file for most settings and then uses emulator-specific config files to overwrite certain settings as needed since RA supports that behavior.

Will take a look at RetroInvader, hadn't heard of it before.

Nvidia proprietary drivers are still king, but AMD is trying. In fact, if you want open source drivers, then AMD is the way to go. Nouveau is a shitfest, but that is more Nvidia's fault. On AMD, their AMDGPU is really good despite being a free driver. They also have a proprietary part that includes extended OGL support and Vulkan through a userland driver. That being said, not all of the cards have been doing fine. Tonga, Polaris, and Fiji somewhat are the most blessed. Even then, the performance still isn't what expected, the Fury X is beat by a 970 on Linux at some things. Phoronix should have some benches here and there if you want raw numbers. I'd love to have some input on AMDGPU with emulators however, I want to ditch the 970 in the future and hoping Vega gets the Polaris driver treatment on Linux. If someone her runs AMDGPU, then I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The AMD has no drivers meme has gone for far too long. They're completely fine on Windows with Linux being another story. Nvidia just has realy good DX11 drivers. Besides, Vulkan and proper DX12 runs great on AMD cards, it's like they don't even need optimized drivers for them.

The CFW installation process is one of the messier so far, so while I wouldn't call it easy it's at least pretty well documented. The emulation "scene" is currently alive and expanding, unlike the long-dead PSP with its absolute shit specs. There's a lot more potential in the N3DS hardware.

I own an AMD GPU and CPU. For software based emulation, no, it's not as bad as anyone says, but it's still inferior to Intel, and noticeable if you cheap out on the CPU or have an older one.

For Dolphin and PCSX2 using a hardware renderer?

GPU doesn't matter as much as people think when emulating games. Most of the time its CPU that is gonna be the bottleneck.

>>
>>150855880
They should, but they won't, because basically the only one working on the graphics plugins for PCSX2 is a Frenchman who runs Linux and gives 0 fucks about Windows. It's a miracle the OGL plugin even works on Windows.
>>
>>150855457
OGL hw or software?
>>
>>150856231
HW. Since SW doesn't use the GPU I assume it'd work as normal, being dependent entirely on your CPU. But then your games will run at PS2 native res, and not many people can tolerate that in 2016. Depending on your current CPU you might be able to do that right now.

Also just in case don't even think about an AMD CPU. That WILL screw you on PS2 and Dolphin on all modes.

The Nvidia Shield Portable. It's been discontinued so it's cheap as fuck now (about $150 used, along the same lines as that shitty knock-off Chinese shit). It can play just about everything up to Dolphin with enhancements turned all the way up. The micro SD slot can read up to 128GB of games. Battery life is good, and the controls are a pleasure to use, although a bit too "clicky" for my taste. Plus, they finally released the final firmware update for it last month, which basically fixed all the bugs. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

That I don't know. Try asking on the PCSX2 forums about just how much worse it is as probably there are a few people there who have AMD GPUs
>>
>>150859946
I wouldn't call even the SW renderer accurate. There are still a lot of bugs in it. Mainly though people bashing gabest are talking about the fact that to get much more accurate, PCSX2 needs a 60% or so rewrite according to its devs, and no one wants to do it. So it's stuck where it is with OGL getting gains around the edges but not enough
>>
>>150860143

RetroArch Yabause core doesn't have the dynarec because the dynarec in Yabause is not PIC-compatible, which you'd need to get this to run as a dynamic library. Also, nobody in Team Yabause knows how the dynarec works since that was written by an outside guy called Ari64.

For most systems yes but not all. Computer emulation like C64/MSX/Amiga you will still need to use standalone emulators.
PPSSPP standalone is better than the RA version.
SNES cores have input lag that aren't in the standalone emulators, a guy fixed it but the RA team removed the update because it isn't compatible with a tiny amount of rom hacks. *slow clap*
You don't need a setup guide really, just grab the bios pack off the wiki and extract it in the "system" folder or you're going to have a bad time.

>SNES cores have input lag that aren't in the standalone emulators

Last I heard, higan had more lag than RA+bsnes_mercury (pre-lagfix). Only ZMZ and ZSNES were significantly lower.

>a guy fixed it but the RA team removed the update because it isn't compatible with a tiny amount of rom hacks

It was reinstated after a bug in the save state serialization inside RA itself was fixed. The lagfix involved the internal core code only so it would benefit standalone versions as well if they backported it...

why would ZMZ have less input lag?

how exactly do you get cheats to work on retroarch?

tried it with metroid fusion sicne i have the rom already downlaoded. this is pretty much what i did
>downloaded the cheat database
>start rom
>get to gameplay
>load up the cheat file
>activate a random cheat that notriceably affects gameplay (i used super speed)
>set it to on
>menu says "apply cheats" but i don't get any indication that tells me if i actually did it or not.
>return to game
>nothing happened

tired resetting but nothing changed on my end, tried it with mgba and vba-m and got no results on both.

i know the cheats work since i got them to work on the standalone emulators, but i am apparently too dumb to figure it out on RA

It's such shit, because:

-Windows 10 shits the bed with windowed mode retroarch
-Windows 7 doesn't support DX12
-Linux doesn't do well with some AMD GPUs
-OSX... nigga. C'mon.

>Windows 10 shits the bed with windowed mode retroarch

>Windows 7 doesn't support DX12

>Linux doesn't do well with some AMD GPUs

>OSX

Will probably die like DX10 did. If not, Vulkan seems like it's here to stay.
