>3DS
-11.0 Browserhax & Menuhax are out now! https://smealum.github.io/3ds/
-Install Menuhax ASAP if you're not already on CFW, because Nintendo can block Browserhax remotely without a workaround. https://twitter.com/smealum/status/758450605568372736
-You STILL can't downgrade, use CFW or install .cia files from 11.0 without hardware modifications or system transferring hacked DSiWare from a CFW'd 3DS. See the downgrade guide for info on these options. Better options aren't expected anytime soon.

And I guess the browser thing isn't working anymore for some reason so I can't get into rxtools anymore anyway.

I don't think SMW has any special chips on cartridge. However, due to the state of emulator development for a very long time, some SMW hacks may rely on emulation errors and won't properly play on other emulators. Chances are good most of them will work, but just keep that in mind.

From Nintendo? Only Flashcart users. .cia installs can't be detected or banned. eShop downloads via CIAngel or Freeshop, or the redownloads, can be detected but Nintendo hasn't done anything about it yet.

I haven't touched anything regarding 3DS hacking in months so I'm looking for some quick help here.

I downloaded the newest version of emunand9: EmuNAND9-20160606-224510. Upon opening the folder, I get these files in pic related.

Where do I place them? All I remember is that I placed emunand9 in the 3ds folder, but pic related has some extra things. Where do I place those? I'm trying to back everything up.

It IS true that we will very soon be able to have multiple accounts on one memory card though, so that should probably solve your problems anyways. Very soon though, in a few days we'll get it.

10.7 Anon from earlier here. Sorry for the stupid question but I really don't want to mess anything up. Like recommended I used the new Browserhax and followed the Plailect guide, I just reached part 2 and the first requirement lists "The Homebrew Launcher and an installed entrypoint (such as menuhax)" when in part 1 me and the guide used Browserhax which I thought was the entrypoint. So do I need to install menuhax as well (and it's not in the guide) or did I already take care of the entrypoint?

Dropped plot points, Mira has no reason to be there, Q has no reason to actually be the 10th player, the entirety of D-Team, Shifting is used intelligently a few times and then all of a sudden everyone forgets to use it during apocalypse ending, Alien Fax Machine, Q is You twist is inconsistent, the last dilemma is extremely forced, terrorist plot literally just tacked on, on top of shitty puzzles and most rooms requiring one to five pixel hunts. It's not a good game.

I do love Carlos though, and C-Team is pretty cool.

I'm currently following https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-1-(Homebrew) to try and get to the homebrew launcher.

Everything has seemed okay so far, but then when I try to hold down on dpad during system boot the screen sort of crashes and i get an error telling me to restart the console.
And then 3ds boots up just fine it i don't hold down.

Is there something I'm missing here?
I just need this to then continue on step 22 of this part https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-2-(9.2.0-Downgrade)

I had freezing when inserting my SD card after downgrading.
The reason is that the software on the SD card is incompatible with the older firmware I'd guess.
I can't remember the order I did it in but I believe I deleted the titles from the SD card temporarily to continue through the guide, then I later copied the titles back on, you should be making constant backups of your SD card throughout the process.

>>
>>150278372

PSP currently, for everything except SNES.

n3ds is catching up quickly and will surpass it, and already has better SNES emu via injection or blarg.

Vita is catching up slowly (it's the worst by far right now) and will blow them both away (especially with n64 emu).
>>
>>150278445

>>
>>150278372
I emulate on PSP and 3DS, and while the former is significantly easier to get working, the latter gives better performance.

128 works fine, you just have to format it with a tool that's linked in the guide.

As long as it's booting and only freezing after you insert the SD card you have the same problem I had and it can be solved.
Inside your SD card there will be a folder called "Nintendo 3DS"
Inside that is a folder named private, that's the folder with music and photos.
The other folder with a long name should be where games are stored.
If you have multiple folders with long names, check the filesize to try and check which would be the one with the games.
Try deleting this folder temporarily (MAKE A BACKUP IF YOU HAVEN'T" and then try continuing the guide.
By a certain point you will be updating your firmware again (after all the hacks are done) so this software will be able to be moved back onto your system.

If this does not work, you can always put the folder back where it was on the SD card and pretend I never said anything.

Natively?

Vita's native emulators are godawful right now. They'll get better, but it'll take months.

I don't know about the Vita "blowing away" the N3DS in terms of emulation. Their CPUs, which is what matters most for emulators, look to be roughly similar in terms of performance.

I appreciate you helping me but it sadly didn't work. I'm currently stuck on
>19. When you have booted, change your theme to anything else, then change it back to remove the old menuhax version
I'll try to elaborate a bit because now I'm really stuck and have no clue what to do as there is no such case in the troubleshooting. When I insert the SD card it doesn't freeze, the icons are still spinning and all, however when I click on the themes icon my 3ds freezes and refuses to respond from there on out. Admittedly I accidently clicked on settings after the first time I booted (after the blackscreen I mentioned earlier, for which there is a mention in the troubleshooting which I followed), with the same result of my 3ds freezing. Could that have broken something? Is it sensible to try changing the theme without the SD card inserted or would that break thing guaranteed? Alternatively is there any way to restart the whole process or am I too far in? Thanks for the help.

I downgraded from 10.7 (homebrew with the new browerhax/menuhax). Pretty much followed the guide step-by-step and everything went as it should have until the Part 2 - Step 18 blackscreen. Followed the troubleshooting guide and the 3ds turns on alright. When I insert the SD card and do something the 3ds freezes. I thought about booting with the SD cards inserted but as that is not mentioned in the guide I haven't tried it yet. I haven't tried doing anything without the SD card yet, that may not freeze my 3ds. I'll try to dig up another SD card like the other anon mentioned and see if it works but I really doubt it, will report back if it does. yeah sometimes 3DS CFW can be a little dodgy, which is why you're asked to make so many backups.
My second monitor's desktop is 1/4 full with ONLY 3DS related folders, I dated them and everything.

My first attempt softbricked my 3DS and I had to wait for 10.6 to be hackable to reattempt, where everything worked (although I had some roadbumps, like discovering having DSIware on the system could softbrick it during downgrade).

I'm glad it's working now my man, once the downgrades are all done the rest of the process is just kind of repetitive, you will be dumping NAND backups and formatting a lot.

Alright man.

>a9lh is completely optional and going without wouldn't restrict your ability to run homebrew.

True, however having al9h will allow you to do much much more, (including easy 3ds piracy, but it's ok if you're not interested in that) like having access to homebrew loader and hax on your 3ds home menu (not having to open browser every time), being able to update to any new firmware Nintendo releases without losing any hax capabilities, brick protection, easy CIA install through FBI on home menu, etc.

Getting a9lh is quite a long process (3+ hours), but very worth it imo.
This is the best and most complete guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki

If you're not interested in a9lh, then I would suggest that you install menuhax to be able to get into homebrew launcher on 3ds boot by holding a button (if you're not already using menuhax)
For a guide on installing menuhax I would still suggest the a9lh guide, but only completing the first part of the guide (Part 1)

I can't really help you with emulation as I use my Vita for that, but I've heard old 3ds runs many emulators very poorly.

If there's anything more you wanna know just ask me, and I'll try to answer.
>>
>>150285109
>being able to update to any new firmware Nintendo releases without losing any hax capabilities, brick protection

These are the only things. Not worth replacing your gateway NAND, backing up saves and doing installs all over again.
>>
So should I just bite the bullet and update to 3.60? I have eCFW on my Vita TV but rarely use it.
>>
>>150285257
Oh, you're using gateway? Well sorry I didn't think about that. Then yes don't mind me.

Now that I think about it, I'm pretty retarded for assuming you only have access to homebrew when you're talking about installing CIAs....

I'm sorry, I'm sleep deprived and just wanted to help.
>>
>>150285338
Yes, just do it. You can easily install VHBL anyway for homebrew, and PSP+PS1 features (and much more) might be coming very soon.
>>
>>150285109
There is LITERALLY nothing a9lh can do that accessing your emuNAND with menuhax cannot do once you are in userland (i.e. homemenu).

>(including easy 3ds piracy, but it's ok if you're not interested in that)
How is a9lh making it easier?
You mean not having to install DSiWare/GBA titles on sysNAND?
Because that's not making it "easier". Not having to do a step is not making it easier. It just takes less time.

>like having access to homebrew loader and hax on your 3ds home menu
You mean, just like on a menuhax booted emuNAND? Because you can install the hblauncher.cia on emuNAND too.

>brick protection
Having an emuNAND (doesn't even matter if booted by menuhax or a9lh) also protects your sysNAND from bricking. And you can also easily restore the emuNAND.

>easy CIA install through FBI on home menu
You mean, just like on emuNAND?

I have an a9lh updated sysNAND myself but you clearly don't know what exactly a9lh. Or how exactly it's vastly superior to emuNAND.
>>

>If you're not interested in a9lh, then I would suggest that you install menuhax to be able to get into homebrew launcher on 3ds boot by holding a button (if you're not already using menuhax)
I've just remembered I entered through browserhax but also have menuhax anyway to booting to homebrew is easy. So that's something.

Another dumb question - I want to upgrade my SD card to a higher capacity; can I just copy-paste all the contents across, or would I have to re-hack?
>>
>>150285702
Dude I'm fucking sorry okay. I SAID I'M FUCKING SORRY.
Like I said here
>I'm sorry, I'm sleep deprived and just wanted to help.
I've been having a terrible last 40 hours and I assumed that anon only had access to homebrew and nothing else, so I was really happy to help someone and initiate him into the world of a9lh.

>nothing a9lh can do that accessing your emuNAND with menuhax cannot do once you are in userland
I know, but I explained the benefits for someone only running browserhax, which makes all my points true compared to browserhax.

AGAIN I'M FUCKING SORRY I KNOW I'M A FUCKING RETARDED WORTHLESS HUMAN I JUST WANTED TO HELP SOMEONE TO BE ABLE TO FEEL A LITTLE BIT GOOD ABOUT MYSELF
>>
>>150285109
I'm all for installing A9LH, but some of your claims are just not true.

These are the benefits one gets out of A9LH:

- 100% consistent boot rate
- 8 second "stock-speed" boots, unlike the 30-second menuhax boot that has a 75%ish chance of working
- Ability to unbrick sysnand, because you can run software immediately on boot
- Because of the previous bulletpoint, no need for emunand: saves some sd space
- Because of the previous bulletpoint, GBA/DSi installation is less confusing. Same goes for system updates
- Emphasizing on System Updates, no more accidentally updating sysnand and permanently losing hacks

Anything else can already be done through menuhax. I would recommend A9LH for anyone who sees the extra work worth any of the listed bulletpoints or if they're doing it for a less-tech-savvy friend, because A9LH is actually a lot more noob-friendly after it's installed.

Hello, I am the one who made the account sharing on Vita tutorial (xy2_). Since it is only on reddit and gbatemp at the moment, I will repost it here.

First off, note that this is glorified account sharing. If you want to do the much simpler method of simply playing the games of your friend, here's a comprehensive guide:

Step 1: ask friend for account.

Step 2: format your Vita.

Step 3: enjoy new account and free games.

The advantage of this method is that you can use multiple 'accounts' at a time on the same Vita. Do not do this if you have no idea what you are doing! The concept of this method is store files belonging to multiple accounts on a single memory card, hence allowing swap without formatting.

The first thing you want to do is backup these four files:

> vd0:registry/system.dreg
> vd0:registry/system.ireg
> ux0:id.dat
> tm0:npdrm/act.dat

You can do this over FTP. You might be puzzled at how some of those partitions don't show up; this is because molecularShell is sandboxed by default to only allow write to memcard partitions (as in, it hides the others). You can simply type the name of the partition you want to access in your FTP client, and it will show up.

The next thing you want to do is format the file id.dat in order to unslave the memory card: this is important in order to be able to use HENkaku later.

Now do a safe mode reboot (POWER + PS + R). Do a system format. Go through the initial setup inputting your extra account creditentials, then install HENkaku, activate the Vita and dump your new act.dat. Finally, restore the old act.dat and reboot your vita. Keep both act.dats in a safe place. For extra accounts, follow the same procedure, and reformat the secondary memcard each time.

To switch accounts, use molecularShell to move the act.dat, registry.dreg and .ireg, and id.dat of the account you wish to use (I recommend using a non-sandboxed mS build for this as you won't be dependant on FTP this way) and reboot your vita.

I don't really shitpost that much. I'm pretty moderate regarding that actually. Only once in a while about the tranny CFW (which I haven't done for several weeks) being inferior to CakesFW.
But I still help people who come to ask some things (except if it's about the guide because people need to learn how to read first before asking here).
>>
>>150285861
Like the other people mentioned you can do most of these things with only emunand, so if you're not up to the whole lengthy process of a9lh then look into that instead.

And you should probably wait until this thread is more active to get help, as there will be other people than me here to help.

>Another dumb question - I want to upgrade my SD card to a higher capacity; can I just copy-paste all the contents across, or would I have to re-hack?
Yes! In fact I did this myself just a few hours ago. Just make sure it's formatted as FAT32 and then just copy everything across. If anything goes wrong and your 3ds doesn't recognize the SD or something, then you'll still have your old SD with everything on it, and you can diagnose what went wrong with the new one will still being able to use your 3ds

>Thanks a lot man, will look into that.

On an unrelated note, I plan to update my old catch-all guide https://www.reddit.com/r/vitahacks/comments/4r3wbc/the_vita_handbook_comprehensive_vita_offline/ for the new possibilities of HENkaku, this way I can have a much more flexible format (offline and text+archive based) and easier to post to more sites. IMO (this is with experience from my TV which might not be the best) it's not as great as a device which was made to be used with a TV.
The resolution seems a bit weird, at least on my TV, and something about the colors just seem off unless you configure them.

Also very easy to set up so you can just sit down and browse your games/emulators easily with your controller, without having to set up some program with an interface for that.

It is more than possible. Porting it is not easy but not incredibly hard, and the only reason nobody ported it to 3.57/60 is that it was believed there was no way to get TN-V on here in the first place.(unless extra security measures were added.. nobody knows yet.)

Hmm ok I understand the why now thanks

Now all that's left is asking the when. I'm hoping its soon but I can wait a few weeks or a month. I've already waited for three years for something like this to happen. I'm still kicking myself for updating when that psp thing happened a few firmware back
>>
>>150287723

A few weeks to a month is exactly the timescale I'd give. Same for PS1 bubbles.
>>
>>150287409
Even more so, in regards to PSP exploits, I believe the entire sandbox is exposed (if it wasn't already, but only THROUGH the sandbox).

It should be a lot easier poking around to see what it's doing instead of finding a way in and then finding something.

I actually just thought of another implementation thanks to the subreddit.

PSTV supports pairing multiple PS3/4 controllers (I believe up to 4) so multiplayer consoles/games can be emulated as such, like PS1/N64/etc.

A mini-Mario Party machine?
>>
>>150291995

PS1 games on the PSTV already support multiplayer (was surprised to discover it)

Does Vita homebrew understand multiple controllers?

Actually NPDRM still exists. I am the one who looked into it in-depth (xy2_) even if my main objective was simply easier account sharing; even if you manage to break the entire restriction thing and straight up manage to run a game as another, it -still- won't run because of NPDRM. Each file is specially encrypted via a license, and it won't even run at all even if you managed to reencrypt the game. Licenses are console and account specific too, good luck.

If I wanted to use homebrew on my Gamecube (mostly Gameboy Interface) would I need one of those SD card adaptors that go into the memory card slot? Or is it possible to put the homebrew onto the memory card itself?

monk is pretty broken in FFEx. You will do fine. I find the game to be worst than MH desu. Endgame is simply kill this boss, loot/crafting is simply and boring, and playing multiply classes isn't user friendly. For instance, If I want to play Hunting Horn, I can craft a HH and have access to everything HH can do. If I want to use idk Dagger in ffex, I have to buy the skills (the easy part) and then farm all the nessesary links/mutations for each skill which can be tedious and boring for each class you want to try out.

Seems like mGBA's audio on the Vita is piss poor. I tried plugging in headphones thinking maybe it was the speakers, but the artifacts are still there. Tested with Golden Sun. Other than that, seems to be pretty much flawless, full speed with 0 frameskip.
>>
>>150300690
Had no issues doing any of that via the FTP client.

If you're talking about mShell, I just tried and can't seem to do it either. If you mean the build-bot, then stop posting. The last two nightly builds have been completely empty, not even with .velf files, and neither Frangar, Maister, SquarePusher, or the Libretro twitter have said anything about the Vita port since Frangar posted the Genesis Plus GX core two days ago.

I don't even know what I'm expecting anyways since the Genesis Plus GX core randomly lags and produces screeching noises during Sonic 3, or corrupts sprites.

>>
>>150309086
Ah I see now. Never looked into how blackfin worked.
So it just kinda streams the games and they patched it by detecting if the verifying process is not local
>>
>>150309024

They don't have an exploit. Like the Sky3DS, it just feeds the Vita exactly what it expects from a regular cartridge.
Except in this case, it is getting it from a regular cartridge.
The only difference is the network delay, and since it's so big that's something very easy to patch.
>>
>>150309352
Seems like the easiest fix is before actually starting to cache the license data.

Boom, fixed.
>>
>>150309472

There's a very specific handshake protocol.

I don't know the specifics of it, but generally speaking such an authentication system works like this;

The console generates a random "challenge" for the cartridge. Only legitimate cartridges know what the correct response that will satisfy a Vita's challenge is.

The Blackfin can't wait to get the proper response from the cartridge to give to the Vita, because it takes too long. The Blackfin can't cache responses, because the challenge is different every single time.

All that stuff you mention is just Sony being typical Sony, they have been pulling this shit since the betamax days and still haven't learned their lesson so why should we care if they go down again?
I even own a ps4 because they clearly have this gen sewn up, home console-wise, but if they weren't the only decent manufacturer I would have just gone with MS and not cared a fuck.
And they only got this gen sewn up because they stopped behaving like typical Sony because they got such a beating in the 7th gen. So maybe they just do need to get their ass beat down hard every couple of years.

I think godmode9 might have an indicator for whether its running under emuNAND/sysNAND, I'm not sure, but otherwise, just make sure you're in emuNAND before opening it. Do something to differentiate your emuNAND from sysNAND, make some folders on the home menu or something.
>Then a9lh allows me to restore from backup by going into hourglass9 before boot right?
Yeah, if you have a9lhax installed, it allows you to run ARM9 homebrew like hourglass9 even if you fuck up sysNAND. The only way you can really fuck it up beyond that is by overwriting the NATIVE_FIRM install, which Luma and most of the relevant apps should have protection against.

Should be. For the most part, the only things you might change are the AGB and TWL FIRMs for GBA and DSi titles respectively (and I believe Luma just patches those in memory now), and if you're going to play around with region changing that'll involve changing some files too. Yeah I know. I just wanted to know if things changed the sysnand just from using the console, I wanna learn you know. So now I know that if I fuck up my sysnand and restore it, basically nothing will change, it will be exactly the same.

Okay one more question if you're up to answer. If I restore my sysnand from a backup from during the a9lh install process, for example the one that's made on 9.20, will it work and get me to 9.20 and will a9lh still be there?

That is correct.

Hourglass9 can tell there is a9lh in your sysnand, so it will never touch that installation. It will overwrite the entire rest of the NAND around a9lh, but it won't overwrite a9lh.

Other programs may not make this consideration.

That's basically the idea of the a9lh guide, however first you need to downgrade the emunand to 2.1.0 to be able to dump some files that allow a9lh to even be a thing in the first place, and then after that you copy over to sysnand, then install a9lh, then update console to latest version.

It shouldn't be rocket science but when you have tons of applications and terminology being thrown around it gets pretty stupid.

I'd prefer to free up the arbitrarily reserved 1GB of space on my card but it's not that simple, apparently.

It goes from somehow swapping my emunand over (which itself I just learned Hourglass9 is pretty much for), to now updating A9LH.

ShadowNAND is called something different because it's a fork of a9lh. Worked on by a different dev.

If I plan on dumping and installing games from my cartridges to two different 3DSs both with A9LH, is it better for me to decrypt or not to decrypt? Same with trim or not to trim?
>>
>>150317390
I have both OTP files but this page makes no mention of them or where they go, if they're needed.
>>
>>150317678

>both
You should only have a single OTP.bin. And it should be where it always has been, in SD:/a9lh/
>>
>>150317569
>being a europoor
>>
>>150317818
They were never on my SD after I dumped them.

Remember, I used an old version of the guide.

From that version, it was:
>downgrade and get both (otp.bin and otp0x108.bin)
>get back to 9.x
>get into homebrew
>throw OTP.bin (not 0x108) into some website to package the installer
>run it via HBL
>Done

At no point did I need to keep them on the SD.
>>
>>150317964

>being an amerifat
>>
>>150317991

Nowadays you don't need to package it, SafeA9LHInstaller just reads the OTP.bin and a9lh files off the SD card and knows what to do.

So I would do some bastardized way of Part 5?
I'm not understanding how either Part 5 or the updating page on the wiki will actually work given my situation, specifically starting after having completed a previous revision of the guide and cleaned up.

I finally installed A9LH onto my 3DS, but I just don't get it. Why did we have to go through a longass process that takes screwing around with homebrew, Emunands, two downgrades and many hours just to be able to have our software boot before the built-in boot software?
>>
>>150318617

Then you can just do
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Updating-arm9loaderhax
It assumes you have OTP.bin in the a9lh folder on your SD card. You don't, so just put it in there beforehand and proceed with the guide.
>>
>>150318784

The 3DS has two CPUs. The arm9 and the arm11. Gaining control of the system typically goes like this.
arm11 userspace > arm11 kernel > arm9

arm11 userspace is just kickass homebrew. arm11 kernel lets you request that the arm9 installs approved packages. arm9 kernel lets you do anything, including installing and loading unapproved software.

Firmwares up to 10.7 have exploits that let you take control of the arm11 kernel but no further. That's bad because you're not allowed to do any of the fun CFW stuff without controlling the arm9. You can only ask the arm9 to install stuff, and it'll only install software that's approved by Nintendo and approved for your console.

Well, firmware 9.2 is approved by Nintendo. And you can gain control of the arm9 on firmware 9.2!
So that's the reason for the first downgrade.

>>150318896
Okay, got that done quick.

Moving onto Hourglass9, cheers.

Yo, i started playing monster hunter US version but now got the EU version. It doesnt find my save tho, any fix? Please?

Let the EU version make an extData for MHG.
Backup your NA extData with JKSM.
Import your NA extData in EU.

>>
>>150321005

literally everything in the guide has a reason to be there

if you ask, you'll get an answer
>>
>>150317569
I got one of those for my nephew from Tesco. It was on 10.3. Perfect for doing a9lh on.
That kid can now play all the Kirby he wants. Assuming he's being good that is.
>>
>>150321082
There are two possibilities on how to solve this.
- Take a look at FBI and note down the Product code (P = Europe, E = NA) and extract then
or
- Extract both extData and delete the NA version, refresh the list and inject again (reinstall if you wanted to keep the NA version)

Approximately how long does it take to hack your 3DS? A few hours? 20 minutes? Give me an estimate.

>>150331872
Under 4 hours with experience, if you do the best hack. Over if it's your first try. But so worth it, I promise.

>>
>>150331872

From scratch to a9lh + Luma is about 3 hours I'd say.
Significantly faster if your firmware is in the 9.0 to 9.2 range.

>>150332008

You mean VHBL, ARK, TN-V? If so yes.
>>
>>150331854
i don't know what any of that means but i'm glad the process went smoothly and is a load off, not that the 1GB was crowding my SD card and it's a load off to have it removed. but like i said I don't know anything so if that's what you meant in the first place then the gravity of your words is lost on me.
>>
>>150332008

If you're still here:

I played the EU e-shop version and still got the glitch. When possible try to save in AB rooms since these seem to be the least bugged (you can just warp back and save, then skip to where you were). There's also a VLR safe launcher which backs the game up when you boot it. In my case I was almost finished so I downloaded a 100%'d save and read through the rest of it.

It's a real shame about the glitch because it's a fantastic game otherwise

I've heard you lose pirated DLC if you enter the eShop, especially if you have legitimate DLC downloaded as well. Does this also apply if a game makes you connect to the internet to view installed DLC? Does .cia installed DLC even show up in those menus?
