Nagato has shit for armor but hits hard and goes fast. Always WASD hack to avoid getting keked by BBs, and don't rush in first. Your guns are most accurate at ~15km and closer, so take shots at things farther away but don't count on them to hit.

I cleared Nagato before I figured any of this out, but I made it work.

I used to play Jap DDs way back, and they were pretty alright. Now it seems like they have too many predators, with any other DD and cruisers rekking them if they get spotted.

I have a Mutsuki, the upgrades for it involve removing your guns in favour of AA, which is still completely useless if a CV decides he wants to go for you. The only advantage it seems to have is long range torps, which seems to be completely about luck.

Are Jap DDs now useless?
Is it just the Mutsuki that's useless?
Am I just useless?

Siemakaze can launch 15 torps, and is invisible again.

All in all, we told everyone after the alpha: IJN DDs after Minekaze are relatively shit.
Since they nerfed Minekaze to shit, you can now just as well bring an Isokaze for more invisibility (or kamikaze if you want to generate more shekels).

Fubuki and Shima work as torpedosluts because they have enough launhers and tubes.
The other Jap DDs do not have enough launchers and tubes.
Jap torps were nerfed to uselessness and the ships with only two launchers actually work better if you use a gunboat captain and modules.

You can really influence how much luck you need with long range torp spreads as long as you use good judgement. Dont launch torps on the lead ship of a group if you can help it (Hes expecting them). Go for the guy in the rear of the group closest to you since most shitters will expect you to torp the shit ahead of them. Dont torp anything thats looks like it will need to change course in the near future as well.

This is a problem that all DDs have to deal with, though. In the past, it was only from tier 8 on that you really saw HE railguns. but the Soviet Cruisers are fucking good at murdering DDs with their low-arc railguns, starting from tier 6.

I used the 10km torps because they gave a lot more flexibility. The Minekaze's main advantage is how fast its torps reload while still being able to stealth torp, but with 7km torps much of that reload time is spent making your approach to that thin 1-1.6km stealth torp band, and it isn't always successful. If a Nicholas or Clemson is nearby you have to turn away, because all but the most brain-dead shitters will know to go into evasive if they see a Minekaze within 8 km.

With 10km torps you could still get within 6-7km normally, but if there's a cruiser or DD that's too close for comfort, you can launch your torps and immediately break off at a distance and still have reasonably good odds of hitting your target. Taking into account all the runs you don't have to abort or don't have to close in for with the 10km torps, you simply had more opportunities to drop torps on a target, and it makes the best use of you reload.

Aim for the waterline.
Never show your broadsides.
Don't rush alone into blobs of enemies.
The most effective range is below 15km, so try to close the distance whenever there is a chance (that is, allies are helping out, you're not pushing into a blob of enemies).
Using your range is fine while you wait for a chance to get close, but be constantly on the lookout for chances.
Play for objectives. Don't stay sniping at max range all the time. Push caps, which will force you to get into the sub-15km range.
Plan ahead, take the shortest route to an objective, but make sure it won't kill you in the process. This is specially true for USN BB's, which are slower than IJN's.
Don't get caught in a turn by enemy BB's. Execute it after they've fired.
Don't shoot angled cruisers or cruisers commencing a turn. Time it so your shells hit them when they're entirely perpendicular to you, for maximum chances of hitting a citadel.

Also, as a general rule shoot AP at cruisers/other BB's. Shoot HE at destroyers, but use AP if you already have it loaded.
Constantly change course, specially if there are enemy destroyers unspotted. Assume there's always somebody stalking you, and turn into their probable location (without exposing your broadside to another enemy BB targetting you) from time to time to throw off their torps.
When getting torped, turn into the torps, not away from them. Works for both plane and ship torpedoes.
Save your repair for floodings or triple fires. Let single/double fires run their course, you'll repair them up with your healpot.


And don't forget Hotel is literally bestbote, the QTest and lewdest.

Also remember to line up PARALLEL to the course of torpedo bombers, while you line up PERPENDICULAR to the course of dive bombers.

Apart from the citadel, there aren't that many modules you can specifically target, and you don't need to make snap decisions on where to hit them either. This season of ranked gave Doubloons for reaching ranks 2 and 1. If/when clam wars are implemented those will probably give doubloons. There are regularly WG competitions for top xp that will automatically reward players that have the highest xp in a certain class/ship in a given time period, so you can randomly get doubloons from those too.

Overall, yes you can get doubloons from just playing, but it'd be sporadic and unreliable.
