I'm new to this game, playing warband, running around with my band of 10 or so soldiers who keep getting completely slaughtered by forest bandits and leaving me to fight 20 people on my own (and win thanks to how OP just stabbing fuckers with a spear from horseback is).

But I have a question in regards to the arena: How the hell are you supposed to do anything when the game just spawns 4 people who all cluster around you and beat the shit out of you? One on one I can fight forever, and I generally get up to around 10 fighters left before the game decides to spawn three people behind me who then proceed to all charge me at once and beat me down.

Is there something I should be doing here? Because I can't back away fast enough to get away from them and even with a shield its almost impossible to get a hit in when 4 dudes are beating you with wooden swords and quarter staffs.

The most basic native+ module out there is diplomacy. There are other fixes and tweaks that make the game better without changing too much, and this is basically a combination of the two.

Basically Floris adds a bunch of armors that in my and seemingly some other people's opinions are not only quite ugly but very anachronistic. You have the Nords wearing mail that is literally ripped from Brytenwalda which is an early dark age mod and the Rhodoks/Swadians have plate armor that belong in like the 14th to 15th century.

It also adds an ugly dark filter to everything and a bunch of features that aren't objective improvements to native (like bandit hordes), but I'm not entirely learned on what all the different editions of Floris can enable/disable.

Well technically, but it's more than one domain. Make so they start allied in two factions but make it so the Shogun or the Emperor can try to get other factions on their side/defect.

Why fucking even? Floris has so much jank shit, it's a bloated mess, no quality control, just fuck it my man. Have you seen Balanli? It's a village down the coast from Praven. They tried to redesign the town with new assets and it looks like an absolute joke.
Try visiting the nearby castle too, it uses similar assets. Soldiers were getting stuck under the ladder in a moat, and if they weren't going up the ladder were trying to charge through a closed gate that had no way to be opened (enemy soldiers too, they were basically running at each other at this gate pointlessly).
And for some reason whenever I used the flag designation function to tell troops to hold position on the castle walls, it'd crash. I don't need to tell you how infuriating it is to have the game crash in the middle of a siege not once, but twice.

Finally, thank Illuvatar, someone got out of their elven/dwarven/human asses after being way stronger than Dol Guldur and did this. I've been waiting to end the war in the north forever and I've been in the south for 200 days hunting orcs, haradrin and pirates tot he point I single-handledly brought down mordor some 4K points in poer from "unmatched" to average.

I remember having lots of fun with this game years ago i just recently installed it again and wanted to sink many hours in it, I decided to go with the floris mod, i gathered my small party and went to kick some looters ass, when i got to the tournament i was completely destroyed by everything. It's a clusterfuck and the AI felt fucking stupid just running around in the arena, It was frustrating and i quit the game. I want to give it a new try, i'm pretty bad with the two handers but i want to use them, archer is too easy mode and antifun. Any tips how to get good with two handed swords?

With just 3 days of the fall of Dol Guldur, the army of the north swept south that caught Saruman off guard. The King of Dale was defeated in battle by Saruman's army combined, but Lord Elrond's host defeated that army and we shattered their main fighting force. The few uruk parties who survived ran to Fangorn in fear.

In these 3 days lord Elrond razed an outpost and the King of Rohan was able to gather is strength and raze another camp.

I get lost in leveling my guy and companions and upgrading equipment and tailoring my army and stuff and next thing I know it's a year or more in and I'm still just bashing bandits and meddling in lords' battles
really that's my favorite part of the game, just being a roving band of mercenaries

For Vanilla, not sure. I never really got as far as owning a few fiefs under a liege before quitting.
If we count Floris though, around day 420 I started a kingdom with decent relations with the lords of the realm and a high right to rule. Fucked up though and recruited too many lords and didn't really feel like going further when the Nord's army was fuck huge, plus filling garrisons is boring as fuck even if it's just hundreds of peasants.

Nah, Diplomacy is good and it's a staple for many mods for good reason, it's just near-native Warband is so damn lackluster.
Floris has a lot of questionable shit in my opinion, I don't really want to go back to playing it. And unfortunately for me, other complete overhaul mods don't really appeal.

Danmark now encompasses the former territories of Northvegr, Friese and half of Northumbria. We've made some progress down into Mercia and up in Alban, but I'm wary of storming into Scotland, the picts are fucking assholes to lay siege too.

Helped Theoden to siege and razer the Dunlender camp, sending them back to Dunland. Theoden seems to be the most aggressive of the allied factions.

in warband, the horse archers are less accurate and are more prone to charge in with their 0 power strike melee weapons (suicide) instead of using ranged weapons
in addition, in warband, if you don't give your horse archers any commands and just charge, they will go head first in with melee weapons

as a result, steppe bandits and desert bandits just suicide charge every battle
