The obscene way I understood windows to work was that it created copies of DLLs for every time a product/project/program wanted to change them so it wouldn't disrupt the functioning of other programs/systems using them. Just weird for them to deviate from that paradigm.

I'm mostly annoyed that my free copy of VSC++ won't work for openxcom anymore.

Really can't agree. At least on Classic they were a strong addition to my mid to late game squads. Grenades for damage and cover removal, punch for good single target damage, the guns hit hard, and EMP blast is a life-saver in bad situations, namely when fighting sectopods. They brought unique utility, consistent damage, and some tanking capabilities.

They hit just fine with range bonues, and you can shoot twice if you aren't moving. Honestly my MECs usually spend more time blowing up cover and punching things then shooting. I also forgot to mention collateral damage.

Also there aim isn't that low if you MEC a high ranked sniper as this guy mentions >>149599367.

Its just that their aim progression is lower then snipers, assaults, and supports, but actually higher the Heavies.

Long war campaigns are tough to complete, not by difficulty but by mental strength. Once you get to late game things start getting tedious, end game is completely unbearable. Early game is easily the best, and mid game is really well done too. I've restarted more campaigns than I care to admit to experience the first 5-6 months.

My best soldiers all alternate between front line duty and backline, whatever their stats are best for. Often the Veterans are leading from the front. I posted that particular crew member because she holds the highest mission count (and is still alive), she actually doesn't have the most kills or highest stats.

I guess that rotates more people in and out for kills and missions due to wounds and sometimes deaths.

How reliable is flush to set off proxy mines? I've always been torn on how to detonate my own reliably over the course of a mission. I used to take engineers with nine alien grenades but that's not particularly appealing now that I look at it.

I was thinking of making a Valkyrie with:
LEU > Flush > RR > LNL > Opportunist > CD > RF/AF

To completely replace my grenade engineers. Only MEC to get LNL, CD and Flush, between RR overwatch and potentially RF I have a unit with basically every ammo sink known to man rolled into one that also happens to have LNL, which is a perk I am just in love with. (I made some HEAT Valkyries before and found the unit basically unplayable without LNL.)

I would put one or two grenade launchers on it to detonate mines on clusters of flying units, which neither care for flush nor would reliably trigger the proxy mines through movement anyway.

Problem is that I haven't used flush all that much so far so I don't know how reliable it is. Also in the back of my head I'm wondering how many instant kills I'm missing from not adding grenade damage into the mix. I have an ITZ sniper around but it's a scary thought nonetheless.

I'm half considering making one batch of archers for proxy mines with tandem warheads and one batch of archers purely for grenades with grenadier and just take two archers every mission but that seems a bit overkill.

This would be so easy to solve if CD could set off mines.

How did your squads cope with detonating 12 mines?

I never did need that many mines, you really underestimate the explosive potential of archers. I only had one archer, who was lugging two proxy mine launchers as well as a grenade launcher. With all the explosive perks taken(and the finisher being tandem warheads), everything died more or less in one go. Bringing along two is as you speculated, completely overkill. But this is long dong, so completely overkill might just be what you need a few missions down.

I'm very hesitant in your build. It's an ammo sink build, and I'm not sure if it'll work based how you want it to work. The advantages of Archers and Engineers is that you can get explosives out without a hassle, and do a lot of damage in them. You want to play around with Flush in it, and while it is reliable enough, you have a problem with the build. If you overwatch, drain your ammo with a few shots, then decide you need to launch a mine? It's very well likely you won't have enough ammo, and even with LnL, you'll only have one more action left to throw out the mine. You won't be able to follow up with flush unless you have an officer around who can command him.

I'd honestly just recommend sticking with Archers for explosives. No one handles them better.

I've been kicking around an idea for a mod that's a little more roleplay-intensive than "Squad Cohesion". The basic concept is that if a soldier spends time in battle with another, a relationship may develop between them, rolled after battle like AWC. These would come in many forms, each with unique passive benefits as well as some detriments. My best fleshed-out examples right now:

Mentor/Protege:
>Can only develop between soldiers at least two ranks apart
>Protege receives +5 Aim
>Mentor receives +5 Defense.
>If Mentor is killed, Protege receives permanent +5 Aim and Crit (Revenge).
>If Protege dies, Mentor gets permanent -10 Will ("I failed him").

Lovers:
>+5 Will each if within X tiles
>-5 Aim each if outside of Y tiles (Distracted)
>If one panics, the other is guaranteed to panic
>If one is killed, the other receives -50 Will, halved each in-game month (Mourning)
>Maybe a bonus after will is restored to normal?

The primary goal would be to make relationships interesting from a storytelling perspective and let more stories emerge from every day gameplay. But it would be nice to have it somewhat balanced.

-1 guerilla op occurs at a time, you can refuse to do it without direct punishment but they are much harder.
-Choose starting location and Resistance HQ bonus a'la LW1
-Complete change of continent bonuses (and possibly mini country bonuses that are weaker than the HQ bonus).
-Have to build each weapon/each armor but it's not as expensive for 1 gun or 1 armor as the Xcom2 "buy it once and you're good to go but it costs an arm and a leg on legendary"
-LW balanced/approach to larger enemy pods and harder enemies overall
-Changes to the doomclock. Maybe it happens much much MUCH slower (like maybe 75% slower to legendary's fill rate) but there is almost no way to take a box away once it occurs. Maybe 1 highly expensive and difficult method - think less alien facility 'done in 10 turns' and more LW1 style alien base "get ready for a slugfest"

Grenadier saved my ass, even with grenades being nerfed with me using grenade fall off damage. The ones in LW get an ability to have a flashbang on them, and another ability that makes them into Sting Grenades(standard flashbangs but with a chance to stun). Their radius is fucking humongous with the grenade launchers, so you can launch it at groups of shit and not only disorient, but potentially knock out a large chunk of them.

The best pure tanking armor in the entire PirateZ game. At least I'm like 99% certain it is. The problem with most heavy armors is that they don't add to your psi defense, and some even lower it. This leaves you susceptible to psi attack, and considering the Star Gods are who you're shooting to beat, that's pretty bad.

This suit gives you +60 health, meaning most of your soldiers now have 150 health, and regens 10% of your health per turn, so you can keep tanking for an extended mission. Even better, it adds 20% of your total health to psi defense. This means that a soldier with 50 psi strength and 40 skill will have 88 psi defense. Compare this to a soldier wearing armor that adds +12 psi power and they will only have 70.

The key disadvantages is that this armor is for pure tanking and nothing else. -30 TU, -10 Stamina, -30 Reactions, -30 Firing accuracy, -30 throwing, -30 Melee. So yeah, horrible combat stats, but at least they are nigh invulnerable. I think I'll be equipping them with either with chainsaws and shotguns, or maybe a minigun, since you can't really miss with those.

Oh, my version doesn't require gemstones. Lucky for me I guess. Yeah the resistances are amazing. Also has 70% cutting resistance, and complete immunity to Acid and Choking. So yeah, it has good resistance to every single damage type in the game, you won't get blind sided.

The other Ultimate Power armor has 130 armor and gives bonuses to combat stats, but it doesn't have any big resistances and is weak to lasers. Also it has no bonuses to psi protection. So basically all it helps me do is stomp other factions harder, which is not very useful.

I have to say, if I have one complaint its the general uselessness of a good chunk of the lategame tech. Now I could be wrong about some of this, but I'll cover it anyway.

So at the very end of the tech tree you get plasma weapons, which is cool I guess, but once again, all they help you do is stomp other factions harder that you've been wrecking for about 2 years straight now. All Star God units have good to insane plasma and laser resistance, meaning that cutting, explosive, and piercing damage is always going to be you're best bet. Also they all have really good psionic strength, so using psi against them also feels like a waste of time. Obviously I already noted how the supposedly ultimate armor also doesn't seem that useful. Idk, maybe there's some late game tech that focuses more on piercing and cutting weapons, but it seems to me that the guass weapons I've been using for along time are still the ultimate weapons for that category, which feels kinda lame. I want to build some handheld rail-guns, not just the ship variants. I did get the nuclear powered chainsaw though (100 cutting, 5% armor damage, auto shot).

The annihilator suit? Don't know about your version, but this one takes 80% laser and 90% plasma damage, with 130 front armour. Not as tough as the bio suit, but its still pretty tough.

I agree in general though, once you get good guns there's nothing in the way of great ones to look forward to. Mostly the end game is just far too long.

Yeah mine has no plasma resistance and takes 10% extra damage from lasers. Nice to see they buffed it in that version, sounds alot more viable. They really should add some endgame content that can be used against the Star Gods. Afterall, with them being the primary enemy you are trying to defeat, it would make sense to spend your time trying to tech against them once you get to the end of the tech tree. Literally there should be end game projects for "god killer" weapons.

I disagree, Heavy Plasma in OG x-com made most weapons redundant, but didn't feel lame. Toxiguns also had extra mechanics gunning for them like the fact that they didn't destroy the alien shields. Even then when fighting the Cult you still had to use other weapons, but toxiguns still managed to feel opressive and lame. I really don't think an extra top tier of piercing damage weapons would be an issue. You would still be using other weapons for other factions, and still bringing along you're complementary explosives and other weapons that are easier to manufacture ammo for. The fact that the tier can have pistol, shotgun, rifle, minigun, sniper rifle, heavy rifle, and smg variants already puts it miles ahead of toxiguns.

I am in love with this armor. Also, the stat penalties really aren't even that bad. What I didn't notice is that unlike other heavy armors I've been using, the bio suit doesn't have energy recover penalties (due to it being powered armor) so you can still sprint alot to maximize you're time units. Definitely the pinnacle of Combat armor.

Honestly most of the 8 MEC classes were useful at one point in time. They just kept getting gradually butchered in the name of MAGNIFICENT DESIGN. Even then, I notice that while most people agree most MECs ended up worthless, they don't actually agree on which ones are worth using.

MECs also seem to have a lot more variation from person to person build-wise compared to the basic classes. Though sometimes that's just caused by some MEC perk trees being all over the fucking place.

They also really dropped the ball on the suits. Who even builds anything other than a MEC-7? If heavy suits had damage control instead of body shield to match titan armors then we'd be in business but as it stands very few MECs can actually tank like a bulky assault in titan armor can. Hell body shield arguably makes you worse at tanking. It's arguably worse than no perk at all. That's bananastown.

Just a base defense mate, have'nt you had one? I'm so late in the game the enemy factions just spam crackdown missions so even with me shooting down ships left and right some still slip through.

Doesn't matter though, I'm so late in the game I crush them even in my Auxiliary Bases with little effort, and I have my strategy down pat. The only ones I would be worried about are Star Gods attacks, but they are rare so I put special focus on shooting down all their ships.

Well that didn't take too long.

So at this point I can launch the final mission whenever I want. Up to this point I have been purely doing an Ironman playthrough, and I want it to be a pure Ironman campaing. So before I launch the final mission I'll be farming some key equipment (primarily synthmuscle to make Bio Suits since that's the best armor in the game).

Congratulations!

Since you responded to my last post, I want to pitch another OXC mod idea to you: programmable loadouts/templates. It would work similarly to Statstrings: describe the attribute(s) and its range you want this inventory rule to apply to, and it will try to equip the soldier with the specified gear (or class of gear? or template?). Priority would be in descending order; rules would be applied across all soldiers first, then move onto the second rule, etc.

Basically my goal is to not ever spend time equipping my soldiers again. Am I the only one who hates this part of the game? I mean, I like to optimize as much as the next guy, but I just want to get to the action, and often I don't have enough weapons of x type to make a good template.

Do you have any other ideas?

The template sounds interesting, but also very difficult for something like PirateZ. It will all come down to execution, and I have to be honest, I quite enjoy equipping my entire squad. If you want to pursue it go for it, but maybe start with something easier like og xcom loadouts? Just seems like PirateZ would be a ordeal with all the guns and stats and different stat adjustments for weapons, not to mention many weapons are more effective or less against different factions. And then there's armor considerations as well. Seems like a pretty big headache.

As for other mod ideas, couldn't really think of anything off the top of my head. So I thought about one of the more annoying parts of PirateZ and I settled on factions seeming to disappear for years at a time. Maybe some sort of trigger that tells the game to start spawning missions for that faction? In-game explanation could be bait, or kicking the hornets nest somehow, or finding new ways to track them down. Most likely implemented as some sort of research project? It would take a decent amount of time to research compared to most projects, so you would only be really motivated to use it if you currently had no research, or key research was locked behind faction related tech/hostages.

I never got anywhere on Apocalypse as a kid and I can see why, I am only playing on medium difficulty in it is insanely tedious.

I am only in week 4 and yet there are dozens of missions in-between each piece of research. All the enemies are shielded and now they have weapons that melt all my armour!

UFOs are overwhelmingly powerful and if I wasn't save scumming I would have lost all my ships. And they just keep getting more powerfull, they are now all shiled as well and I am only just starting to get advance labs etc. to research and build larger things.

But with the way things are going I don't even know if I will make it to building new ships. With all my armour melting and with the game not giving me any way yo make it I am sure I am soon going run out of supplies.

I just have to re-load so much it is making the game not fun at all.

This is why I had to abandon my XCOM 2 Legend (Non-Ironman, just Legend) run recently. I told myself I wouldn't savescum mid mission, and I didn't. A few deaths and injuries per missions, well, okay. But I would reload complete squad wipes, because that would basically kill off my campaign entirely.

It just became a chore, and I couldn't go on with it. I'm now on another Ironman Commander run, and having fun again.

It rankles me that there's just such a power gap between the two difficulties. Commander is starting to feel a bit easy, beyond the first month and a half. Legend was just nightmarish even though I had a pretty good start though.

Well, despite a minor interruption from some work stuff, the base defense turned out quite well.

The one casualty was from a gal unwisely running up to an Academy Provost and attempting to slice it in half with a chainsaw. Needless to say, the "Impossible" in her name proved to be a bad omen.

In x-com in general, not just PirateZ. Because the projectiles are actual objects that hit when they intersect with the tile the enemy and it seems the projectile at least always go through the tile directly in front of you before its direction varies enough to take it other tiles. Even someone with 0% could hit with a projectile. As soon as you hit two tiles, all bets are off. Unlike other "Melee" weapons, chainsaws "shoot" projectiles, so at one tile range they never miss. Doesn't mean you still can't roll for zero damage though.

There's something funky with how projectiles travel and when you have 100% chance to hit, so you can still miss even with something like 140% accuracy.

Back to PirateZ, Melee does a dice roll for whether it hits or not, dependent on you're melee accuracy (sometime other things) and your enemies dodge. Enemies have less dodge when you are behind them

Due to the way the game engine is coded, both OpenXCom AND original XCOM:UFO/TFTD will only ever use "snap shot" mode during reaction fire.

If a weapon doesn't have a "snap shot" mode, you can *not* reaction fire with it.
So that fancy weapon with 200% accuracy on aimed mode for 1TU and 200 damage will never, ever shoot even if the soldier has 120 reaction skill and full time units.

Incidentally, due to the way "auto shot" works, it won't be interrupted by reaction fire; this means if you ever see a weapon with identical accuracy on auto/snap, and the same TU:shot ratio, USE AUTOSHOT. Reason being:
Enemy has 100% of their TU and 100% reaction skill, meaning they WILL get a reaction on you. After every shot, the game checks for a reaction, which after a snap/aimed WILL happen in this scenario.
If however you use autoshot, the game processes however many autoshots there are (default XCOM is 3, modded could be ALL the ammo) and then lets the enemy react... if it's still alive

Sleep paralysis is actually a regular physiological response that happens to everyone- when you fall asleep part of your brain intercepts and blocks signals going out to your limbs so if you have a dream where you're moving you don't actually move in your sleep. It's just that in some people it will activate either before they fully lose consciousness or won't deactivate quickly after they wake up, which can be rather disconcerting as you find you can't move your limbs.

Phew! Finally researched Personal Cloaking and Shielding in Apocalypse.

I also switched from real-time to turn-based. That seemed to solve the problems with those acid missiles, shame it has made Head Crabs deadly.

Are the Toxiguns worthwhile? Right now I am using the Heavy Plasma type gun.

Now I just need my ship tech to catch up. Currently researching the medium beam type weapon, once that is done I will have access to the shield research. Hopefully the will give me a boost, then I can focus on new ship designs.

Repeat with all the new soldiers we got over the course of the campaign and now my A-team is 4 MEC-1s, a MEC-3, and a sniper. Jesus fuck MECs break the game almost as hard as mimetic skin.

would recommend you go through the mod list we have going on but cosmetics are a good start if you are afraid to change much of the game a better ai is a good one though highly recommend you get that
