Well, I've managed to add the Escalation classes to the mod roulette. let me fucking tell you, figuring out how to add the rocket launcher as an option and getting it working was a hassle, mostly because of how the Workshop throws shit into a folder of effectively random numbers.

Now I just have the rest of Grimy's classes, and all of the Long War Perk Pack to add.

The aliens won't know what hit them, because my soldiers won't even know what they're shooting.

Lt too, i feel like that's the point where they can survive through fuck ups, so the chances of my time being wasted customizing them are much lesser.

Then i usually leave them as they are until i unlock a new weapon tier, or if something happens to the guy like being seriously injured, or being kidnapped by Advent.

This guy was a happy guy, but he sacrificed himself to allow the A team to escape, Advent took him and after he was rescued he was never the same, now he is covered in scars and has his shit all fucked up.

I have no idea how to balance timers in ABA with Pods+. I've set them to 99 and tried playing as if I was rushed to see what the ideal numbers would be.

Early missions could be done with vanilla ones(although just scraping by). But then you reach late game and this is the shit you see. At the start of the mission I moved 3 tiles with the first soldier and already triggered a 6 man pod of MECs and ADVENT shit. Outside of what's in the picture, there's still another 6 man pod of ayys not far from these guys. This is horrendous

What's our play here, /xcg/? I can overwatch everyone and hit one of the groups with a rocket, but that underutilizes the Double Tap and Bullet Storm abilities we picked up. Definitely rocket one group, if they get close you will have trouble hitting with the sniper rifle. You're gonna be extremely close to the enemy, I would say don't overwatch since you can move close for range bonus, flank, and crit chance.

I do. Spider Suits give you a free action and vertical mobility. Exo suits give rockets which are cover removal and damage if you don't need an extra inventory slot on that soldier.

I usually build 1 Spider Suit (upgraded to Wraith later on, obv) and 1-2 EXO Suits (again, upgraded to WAR later on).

The Spider Suit usually goes on a Rogue or SpecOps, for scouting purposes. The EXO usually goes on a Grenadier, a Field Medic, or another soldier who is primarily there for support purposes as it gives them another support option.

Grappling is very useful for snipers and the like, because it DOESN'T USE AN ACTION, so you can grapple up and still have bluemoves and snipe a target better. Anarchy's Children is a hit or miss. Personally a miss for me and it only served to annoy me more(accidentally mousing over a torso from the pack removes any normal arms selected). Decent selection of stuff though if I ever decide to go for a wacky campaign. 4/10

Alien Hunters is a challenge DLC. New shit, new mission, and new magnificence in the way of three aliens designed solely to make your life as miserable as possible. There's a lot of interesting new loot and armor though, and the mission does have a bit of decent lore as to what a certain someone has been up to. 8/10

Shen's Last Gift? The mission is very long and a fun challenge to go through if you do it when you get it(very early in the campaign). SPARKs are neat, but their usefulness is very debated and in modded campaigns where the enemy gets buffed, they have little going for them. Fun to have around still. 7/10

I know this might seem like something minor, but...

Is there any mod/way to remove the alien target icons when a soldier is taking a shot? The ones with which you can mouse over to view an alien in your LOS with the %, as well as clicking on it to fire.

The reason I ask is because the game calculates everything beforehand. If you launch a grenade, the moment you click fire the game will know if cover will be removed or not. Subsequently, the icons are also displayed. So if you fire a grenade, and see an alien icon turns yellow, you know cover has been removed before the grenadier even gets a chance to begin his animation. It's worse with normal shots. If I fire with something, and see that there is one less alien icon in the list, I immediately know it's a kill before the soldier gets a chance to shoot.

It's really bugging me, because something that minor is really taking all the suspense out of your actions.

I didn't change any of my video options, only thing done was unsubscribing from the mod. I deleted my config files, and then used that Remove Missing Mods mod just now to clear its hooks from my save files. Not seeing it now in my new mission.

How did Firaxis seriously think 'Protect the Device' missions were possibly a good idea to add to release?

They're the worst mission type by far. It's not even remotely a contest. They're the most cancerous thing in this game, and you're basically doomed to fail them unless you're lucky, on a low difficulty, or have a lot of mods/ini tweaks going in your favor.

The enemies get an ass load of troops that all spawn around the device. Triggering their pods causes them to attack not your troops, but both your troops and the device. On top of this, even trying to trigger them all they're all in such small pods that one small untriggered pod is likely to still get yet another free shot on the objective during alien activity.

How the FUCK did this mission type make it past the QA phase? It should have been scrapped basically at the idea phase. Seeing it implemented just makes it painfully aware that the team sometimes has no idea at all how to balance this game.

Highest rank possible, doesn't matter if Vanilla or Long Dong. Their XP gain is slowed down, so sending them to Shen's chop shop at an early rank is going to work against you. If you're in Long Dong, you're at least going to get full xp from kills(mission xp still nerfed), but your soldiers drop a rank when they're MECd due to magnificence

Ghost armor. It is ethereal invisiblity and gives +50 reactions, +10 vodoo power, and +10 Vodoo skill. Good resistance to laser and plasma (though why would you get hit dumbo?) and base armor (20).

The only disadvantage is that you can only carry the ghost blade and ghost beam (not much of a disadvantage in terms of weapons, but no extra equipment).

Ghost blade ignores all armor, 7 TU per swing, with good stats (high reactions) you deal an average of 30-35 dmg. Since that ignore armor, it hits really hard. 90% accuracy. Deals plasma damage unfortunately (would have preferred cutting, not much as cutting resistance).

The Ghost Beam is nearly 100% accurate for most sort to medium ranges if your gal is psi proficient (50 vodoo power and up). It deals damage based soley on Voodoo mastery (Voodoo power * Voodoo Skill).015. So let's say they have 60 Power and 50 skill, that's a mastery score of 3,000, multiply that by .015 and you get 45 damage. This also ignores armor 100%

This means you are gonna be murdering everything pretty hard. Also did I mention you are invisible?

I don't think there is any way to improve voodoo power further. Maybe by using stuff in combat? I'm not sure.
However, different armors give bonuses. The Ghost armor give +10 to skill and power. Novice gives +12 to Power. I'm researching Witch armor right now which I suspect gives the largest bonuses.

Also it really is Christmas. This is the Laser that shall pierce the Sectopods.

By the way Sectopods have 150% resistance to lasers (meaning laser do 50% more damage). So 140*1.5=210 damage. The front section of Sectopods are have 145 armor. This is the first reliable ranged weapon that can consistantly get past the front armor, which is a pretty big deal.

Also just picked up Tornado Plasma Mortar rounds that deal 160 Concussive damage. That's with 100% accuracy to anywhere on the map as well.

I really fuckin love the Xcom1 titan armor. was the perfect bit of bodysuit armor with bulk and weight to it. Especially with the neck-protection that goes up to the lower back of their skull and jawline and the enlarged section at the back of the shoulders like a turtle shell.

The answer to that question is a resounding maybe

To be honest originally the metal parts were going to be shiny, you can see it in this vintage screenshot, but because of some strange glitch i tuned down the specularity by a lot which seemed to get rid of that problem, and then i figured "eh it looks fine as it is"

I might mess around with it a bit when i have the sniper ready.

Need some mod conflict help

I'm running ABA with Evac All and Additional Mission Types, and started getting the 0 aliens on missions(namely on those additional missions). Looked into it and Evac All seems to be the source of the conflict, as a bugfix they pushed out screwed things up. The option that was listed on the Evac All page was to get rid of the conflicting ini file(XComMissions.ini) and to live with the bug.

After scavenging through the workshop folder and finding the Evac All folder(that was just named some random string of numbers), I found that ini and deleted it. The problem is that I'm still seeing missions with 0 enemies in them. Is there another place I was supposed to delete that ini from?

That mod seems to me like a more complete overhaul experience. In other words, it's meant to be used just by itself with regards to gameplay mods. That's an advantage in the sense that everything is going to be more balanced and you don't have to fiddle around the workshop.

ABA however is more or less compatible with other gameplay mods, and its mod suite allows for a much wider range of gameplay mods to be added. It doesn't change things on the level of Spectrum, but the sheer enemy variety is completely amazing.

Get Spectrum for a more balanced/controlled experience all around. Get ABA with the appropriate sub mods if you want a framework to work off of to build your own overhaul experience. Try combining both Spectrum, ABA, and ABA All the Enemies, maybe that'll work

Is using A Better Advent a bad idea for a first proper playthrough? I got up to around month 3-4 on Commander and the tactical game is sort of fairly easy. The exception being the terror missions since well, aliens kill the civilians pretty fast. Those I struggle on rescuing everyone.

I'm not really using any mods either or using psi ops. I'm not looking for a Long War overhaul but just more... "Aliens aren't dumb as fuck" and ideally maybe one or two aliens more per pod. Since unless I activate two pods, I can usually handle them just fine.

Yet when I go to cover, instead of a new icon, it changes the grenade icon (I put one on my psi op) to a hunker down icon and the grenade icon disappears.
I only used those three mods. I have no DLC and made no changes to the game files.

I really disagree, when you get ABA, Pods +, and ABA All the Enemies (with everything in there except maybe Corrupted Avatar those are just pure concentrated bullshit) and combine them with increased squad size thanks to LW Toolbox and the LW Perks you have a challenging but still very doable campaign.

I agree that it's really just more luck than actual design that 2-3 more max soldiers and the LW Perks are so balanced with that other stuff but it is a more enjoyable experience than LW was for me since I am facing diverse enemies that for the most part are challenging due to their skills instead of "Let's just give this chrysallid lightning reflexes and 50 hp and spawn in 3 sectopods at once because LOL MAGNIFICIENT DESIGN!"

Why are there no music mods for XCOM 2? I look through the workshop and all I can find is voice packs.

Alright, finally have a satisfactory load-out for my entire squad. I've been on auto-pilot for so long because my research had completely stagnated, that I hadn't actually been putting much time to consider different ways to approach a fight. Because of this (my recent tech break-through) I have to actually weigh the pros and cons all the different armors, weapons, and equipment. There are so many different things to consider.
For weapons there's damage, accuracy, TU efficiency, fire modes, range penalties, weight, ammo, damage type, special properties, and the question of what kind of equipment I can bring to every mission or just for special occasions due to scarcity (unable to manufacture, or requires specialized materials for manufacturing).

For armor there's damage resistance, flat armor values (and directional armor), stat bonuses, stat maluses, flying, weight, inventory slots, and specialized armor that full-fills niche purposes.

All in all, once you weed out the subpar equipment, you still are juggling around 20 different weapons that are all equally competitive and 10 different armors that are also all up for consideration. Mixing and matching everything to fully equip a 22 man squad can be quite time consuming.

First contact is a Tank. These things have much more beefed up armor relative to their vanilla counterparts, with 110 armor for their front plating. This one however is exposing the much weaker back plates and is weak to lasers. It goes down after taking multiple laser rifle shots.

Looks like this large ramp is the only way in and out. I'm going to camp the ramp while securing the rest of the map to make sure I don't get hit from the flank. Is a poor turn of events, the enemy Siren manages to mind control one of my troops. I forget to consider this possibility. The armor she is wearing is amazing for tanking, but suppresses the users psi power, and therefore psi defense, leaving them vulnerable.

I've cleared the back half of the first floor, stunning two and killing one. Scary Sheena is disarmed for the safety of the rest of the crew. She's still a tank though, so I'll send here in with my assault team.

I spot what looks like the bulk of the ships crew at the front of ship - 5 in all. One of them is the enemy Siren (psi soldier) as well. Time to move in an beat everyone senseless.

Already managed to recover the Siren. Also looks like there are actually 7 enemies, but I've already stunned three. Two of them are in power armor, so they may be a bit more tricky.

Mission successful. Only two light wounds, and I recovered 11 hostages along with 3 fusion rifles which are weapons I have yet to recover and the Siren. The score screen might be berating me, but I know the truth. Better not tick the local governments off next month though. I'm sure they aren't happy that I shot down and raided one of their fancy new fusion cruisers and killed or took the entire crew hostage. Even if I did negotiate the deal that got them their ships in the first place.

I've generally stopped playing XCOM 2 until someone makes a mod that removes the HP mountains and turns the game into a more sane table-top style game of HP tiers and dice rolls, or use the original XCOM/TFTD damage /HP /armor model.
Trying to chew into 100+ hitpoint pods of enemies without AOE effects is just fucking torture.

A Cardinal and two chryssalids. For anyone who hasn't played PirateZ, or hasn't gotten far, a Cardinal is the equivalent of an alien commander, the guy at the very top of the command chain.
So yea, if you ever need to capture some head honchos, get a ship that can hit at least 5000, pack some serious beating sticks, and enjoy your easy VIP capture without having to take on an entire base or a very large ship.

Hmmm yea, guess that is about it, though it feels like more. Probably felt like it was more because for a long time we had nothing and then relatively quickly new Tier 3 and laser weapons came out.

Actually none of them are using psionic gear right now. Unless you're referring to the Novice robe outfits they have. Honestly everyone is psionically trained at this point, but for defense more then offense.

No unfortunately they can't. As for the Novice robes, I use those because they actually have great stats. +60% energy recovery, +10 stamina, +10 bravery, +12 reactions, +12 Voodoo Power, and 70% plasma resistance.

Its not that expensive and you can buy it straight off the black market. Great for psi defense and faster backline troops who can sprint almost continuously.

The biggest disadvantage is they have no protection from piercing weapons and have smaller inventory spaces (no backpack).
