There aren't enough examples to even gauge predictions. There's only one game that didn't receive an 18+ version when the original Japanese version had one (G-Senjou), and one where the 18+ version came later than the steam version (Grisaia games). And it's not like both of these developers tried to pull the same crap when they teamed up to localize Sharin no Kuni (only decided they'd do an 18+ version once they realized the kickstarter was doomed to fail without it).
I mean, if things like this keep happening, then go ahead and blame them, I don't think it's fair to make one section of fans wait months longer to play something either, but until then I think you should at least give them the benefit of the doubt.

The reason it didn't was because Akabeisoft didn't want one, this has been said before. I've heard a few things regarding it myself, but it mostly just seemed like baseless paranoia on Akabei's part. The game also kind of flopped, so I doubt anyone wants to return to it anymore.

What is bad about it? For Sekai, it gives them more partners they wouldn't have had if not for us. Without us they likely wouldn't have partnered with Pallette or Favorite, and in addition it also gives us access to work on some other titles that we likely wouldn't have done for free. For myself, being paid means I don't have to find a job while I go to school, which means I can focus more of my time towards translation projects, and do multiple at once.

Eh that's not accurate either unless you study only like 1 hour a week. You can finish a "book" like Tae Kim in your first month and then you just do your anki reps and read stuff. I'm not even half a year in and reading in Japanese every day for 2+ hours at least. 2 years is a gross overestimation, it's fun much earlier.

You misread, I said "by the second year", i.e. after one year.
Anyway, even if you start reading in a month, that will be less reading and more like swinging a pickaxe at a wall. I know, I was there. Basically, think of all the JOPs posting 10-20 hour long VNs for over a month due to reading so slowly and therefore inaccurately, that's pretty much what happens at that level. It takes at least a year at least for the speed and comprehension to raise to what I consider acceptable reading-for-pleasure levels.

Is just kind of misleading. Someone who sees that might think "Wow 12 months before I can even attempt a VN?" might get turned away. I can agree with 1 year before it feels somewhat smooth, but really no matter when you start your first few reads are gonna be painful.

I just got done reading through Muv-Luv Extra a bunch of times and Unlimited once. That new Steam version is pretty fucking great desu.
I played both games back when Alternative was done being translated in 2011 I think?
I remember hearing that the guy translating Extra didn't care much for it and that it showed in the script.
I don't remember much about my original Extra playthrough, but I do know it felt like a stiff read. That new script feels much better. My memory might be off though.
