Yes, that's how it works. Sharin no Kuni is alright. Let's say 8/10 or so with average being a 7. Maybe an 8.5 if you're feeling generous.

Your choice of heroine is largely irrelevant, likely because the game is written around main heroine Natsumi. Who is trash. Only token acknowledgement is given to the other two heroines you can date before her once you've gotten past their arcs. If you haven't picked either of them you're faced with a last minute choice between Natsumi and two other endings which I guess I shouldn't spoil.

I should note that if you're going in expecting something built around romance you're going into it for the wrong reasons. There is love and sex, but they're honestly not that important to the main plot.

I'm trying to install the Kikokugai remake translation patch, and I've followed the readme carefully a few times now, but what is meant to happen isn't happening.The readme says:

3. Click on Extract cg.npa.bat. Wait for it to finish
4. Drag the cg folder from the patch into the Kikokugai folder and overwrite what the bat file extracted

However, this is impossible because the extracting bat file doesn't create a cg folder that I can overwrite. The bat file doesn't seem to extract anything. I've tried doing it via cmd too and the same thing happens. Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this? I just want to play the game properly :(

That's just not how Conjueror operates. His philosophy is to convey the author's original intent and the original work's experience, not be a literal 1:1 for everything. If he had left the original name, the vast majority of readers would have not gotten a comparable experience to the original, and the author's intent would be lost. I would disagree in the first place that most people would have wanted the original name - the only people who would are those who see an English name in a Japanese VN and assume something's being censored or whatever.

This is why I don't see many plotge being brought over after this year. Root Double didn't sell as well as other projects, Kara no Shoujo 2 sold poorly until it was revealed that its sales were so low that it wouldn't get a hardcopy, and Fata Morgana that people have been heralding doesn't seem to be picking up many sales either.
