I generally prefer interpretations of him being a scheming asshole rather than a twitchy psychopath or "lolpedo". It adds an interesting detail onto the character, and would explain why the restaurants keep failing. I like purples that murder because it helps them seek revenge/get something they want from the company, since it feels more grounded as a character, as opposed to "the crazy guy who kills kids because you didn't let him borrow your stapler". I don't see people interpret the character that way very often, and I wish I saw more of it.

OCs are often looked down for having god-awful character design and worked off of a template of an already-existing character. The OCs in question tend to be poorly-written with qualities like Mary/Gary Sue, dindu nuffin, so on so forth. They are also shoehorned into the original works oftentimes and clash with the overall story, rendering the entire thing about them and what they do and not enough about what others are doing. They make for boring stories with no real conflict and would probably be better off serving as the butt-end of a joke in a slice of life.

There's a whole laundry list to why OCs tend to be shit so coming up with likeable reasons for them is much easier and efficient.
Grapefruit's were rather unique and weren't just fapbait. However there wasn't too much of a story revolving around their uniqueness except for maybe the one write-up Rootcellar did, and that wasn't even the original creator. So I would say that they're neat concepts I would like to see more done with.

While we're at it, Beamz is okay. They're often the butt-end of a joke since that is usually the weird personality they're given. I don't think they're something that can be taken seriously due to the goofy 3d glasses in their design.

Oh yeah, Grapefruit was always one of those all show and no tell kind of guess. He was great for one-offs but never could but out any kind of lore related stuff. Working with Root that one time was a great way to get a lot of his ideas across, but it really would have been nice if more came of his AU than just the little bits he would draw for kicks.
Then again, that criticism can be made for a lot of people here.
