Sometimes they're as short as 45 seconds and get cut to 41, sometimes they're 2 minutes long (from a different source) and don't cut at all. (Even with the same filesize limit)

I think it's in a pretty good state right now, damage model needs work but that advantages the Mirage until that's fixed.

The major thing it's missing so far as air to air combat goes is the MWS and D2M, which can alert the Mirage of incoming IR missiles. The 2000C didn't actually have it so far as I know, but I think RAZBAM said they'd model it because all the hardware and switches were present on the 2000C even if not in use.

I think you're overestimating the complexity of 4th gen aircraft, the Mirage is definitely a 4th gen jet, as are plenty of aircraft older & less sophisticated than it F-14A, F-15A, F-16A are all 4th gen too you know.

4th generation fighters are typically characterized by a pulse-doppler radar with look down shoot down capability and a focus on high maneuverability over raw speed.

A few months ago I would have said wait for the guesswork meme to die down as they continue to work on it, but nowadays I think it's finished enough and with no signs of updated slowing down, making it a solid purchase.

Took a while for the plane to grow on me personally because it's so easy to fly it practically flies itself, but stuff is getting functional enough that I'm having fun with it. Getting the close air combat modes working right was what pushed it over the line for me. It's a quality (if still WIP) plane.

I recently got DCS and some of the planes for it.
Should I start with the P-51D or the A-10C?

F-15C, one of the hardest modules yet most rewarding to play.

P-51D is a WW2 piston engine prop aircraft which goes fast (for a prop aircraft).

A-10C is a close air support survival machine flying 30mm gatling gun and AGM-65 Maverick platform with a modern avionics suite which allows you to use a targetting pod and precision guided munitions.

Learn whichever aircraft tickles your fancy more. But I'd go for the A-10C since it's used more often in ops.

A-10C is a more forgiving aircraft but the modernities attached to it make it a tad more complex to learn/longer learning curve, however that's easily solved by the interactive tutorials and the systems are pretty intuitive.

The easiest aircraft to get started with is probably the included free SU-25T though.
It may not be DCS level but it's still good enough to get a hang of what you're doing flying an aircraft.

But for real, do you want modern sim or piston era sim? Falcon BMS is a markedly different experience to DCS, Rise of Flight and Cliffs of Dover with the Fusion mod are great, the more recent IL2 games are rocky and the timezones are EU/RUS but they aren't bad either.

the WW2 stuff even in DCS is pretty fun. It's nice to have to actually maneuver and manage energy every time instead of just fire missile -> evasive. Engine management is a factor that takes some getting used to as well.

4 missiles has never not been enough to score at least one kill, but I'm a bit trigger happy with the s530s. Since their effective range is so shit and is lower than AIM-7/R-27R at the altitudes 90% of engagements in DCS happen at, I've gotten in the habit of firing one off early to scare the enemy into going defensive early and another to force them to turn away again as I keep trying to crank around and drive in for the merge.

Magic IIs are pretty decent IR missiles. R-73 and HMS still way better, but they have good aerodynamic properties and a decent warhead.

Also the double cannons and radar gunsight are fun. Flying this thing has got me pretty hyped for F-5's fun guns even if they'll almost never get used due to AIM-120 spam.
