I think it's less just the proportions and more the textures they used. They're a bit too flat/ slick for the environments we're seeing. The effects are very realistic but the character are very cartoony looking.

What I mean is that when you break it down the only real big baddy is eggman, the rest of them aren't on the same threat level for example breeze is probably the only "villain" on a similar scale as eggman, but she seems to just be content with being a greedy bitch (not complaining though I do like her) the only other villains not a part of the egg army are snivley (probably), nagus, and eclipse. First off while reboot snivley is a dick he doesn't seem to be quite the same level of scum he used to be now that he's working for gun. Second I've never really found nagus interesting he always came across as generic too me andd finally while I actually do really like eclipse, he doesn't have the resources too be a major villain though a proper return of the black arms could do that
On the other hand, Finitevus, Scourge, Mammoth Mogul (under Ian), and the iron queen all came across as more serious threats. Granted I understand The writers have been busy with unleashed but it probably the biggest thing I wanna see them work on

Ian is a horrible character writer. He inserts politics and beliefs into characters but instead of making those characters a voice of said thing he instead makes them an example of it and as such they come across as either shallow or the meaning behind the character and the events surrounding them is vague and lost.
Furthermore as far as Sonic is concerned, there are multiple characters (namely Tails and Chip since they are the biggest examples of this) that Ian refuses to write for. He has taken every step in the book to attempt to not write them. From trivializing any sort of character flaw that they may develop so that he can feign that they are hard to write for to outright writing them out of the story so that they don't screw with the narrative.
At this current state, Tails as as character in the comic may as well not exist since he is so trivial to everything else despite being Sonic's little brother figure. Chip has literally done jack shit and it's quite apparent that he's going to be the dues ex machina for the arc even without knowing Unleashed's story.
And none of this goes into the fact that other characters have the exact opposite problem that Tails and Chip has.
Sonic, Eggman, Shadow and Knuckles all have the character and personality traits cranked up to overdrive and it just feels awkward at times comparing them to other characters around them since Knuckles himself has multiple layers of personality meanwhile you have shit like Rouge who is defined by two traits: Her need for jewelry and the fact that she works for GUN.
Eggman is probably the worst of all though since no matter how you place him to another person he comes off as a much more complex than any other character besides Knuckles.
So at the end of the day it's not that Ian doesn't know how to write a character it's the fact that he's extremely biased to what characters he wants to write for

It seems like Sega is very much aware that the majority of Sonic's fanbase are the people who grew up with him, that a lot of the decisions that go into what Sonic does today are made out of some kind of self-aware consciousness, like "hey remember we did this? yeah you do". This in a way acknowledges that the majority of Sonic's fans aren't children so much as those who were kids back in the genesis days
So why those shitty "kid-safe" mandates for the Archie comics? A lot of them feel like they were made for children who wouldn't be able to understand something like Sonic being sad or losing a battle, as opposed to the older fans who're better capable of understanding why such things happen.

SA2 is memorable because it very strong structure and progression, but fucking awful and hilarious plot points, dialogue and voice acting.
The adventure increases in stakes naturally, from the city to a military base, while the locale makes a smooth transition from urban to industrial to natural. It then loops back around with the "ancient" feel of the desert which links into industrial with the pyramid base, escalating into the sci Fi space conflict.

In other words, the structure of SA2's plot is actually really strong. It's everything else that's shit.

On the dark side some more of the plot is revealed. The dark hedgehog is revealed to be a secret living weapon experiment created by Eggman's grandfather. Along the way, Rouge looks for Master Emerald shards. The end.
In the final story it's revealed that Shadow and the space colony were Gerald's final revenge against the world: the Chaos Emeralds triggered a contingency program that would cause the space station to create a class 4-6 apocalypse and this was Shadow's endgame all along. Everyone works to stop this, Shadow has a change of heart and beats up his prototype, and he sacrifices himself to stop the space station once and for all. The end.
The execution and some of the details were heavily flawed, but the plot is really standard if you ever watched Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. That could totally be an arc of Digimon or Power Rangers or something.

See, this is my problem.
You don't normally see the mantle when the Earth is put back together.
So when all the pieces go back together, there technically shouldn't be anywhere with mantle showing for Angel island to fall into.
Unless of course Gaia'n powere fails to take into account Angel Island and it just kinda plummets while all the other pieces float down gently.
