I want to get some opinions for my DaS3 build
right now i have a 30 in dex and faith, but i've been thinking of respecing to take most of those points out of faith and put it into Dex and Str because i rarely use miracles and mostly use my faith for a lightning lothric knight sword.

Besides the LKS i also use the astora straight sword and the sunlight sword. both have faith requirments, but it doesn't seem like a higher faith stat benefits them in any way.

So, should I lower my faith and put those points back into str and dex since i never use miracles?
also, what infusion should I put on my astora sword? I think sharp, but i'd like to get a more informed opinion

I do characters based on builds, set 1 were these guys + my first character and last one being a sl1 build, the first set was stereotype based, in order:

i actually had another idea for a run. i did sl1 with Symbol of Avarice recently and it was very fun - you could probably do a similar run yourself and allow leveling if you want to and make a mimic character after you're done with this one

My suggestion would be to take the time to farm your Proof of Concord Kepts or Wolfblood Swordgrass now while you need levels. I ended up with 2.5m on NG+1 when I farmed. Yes you'll only have the Covetous Ring normal but it's still worth your time if you need souls too.

I think this will suck, buffs are better on faster weapons where you get more hits and the added damage is relatively a much bigger difference. Think 500 AR ugs gets another 100 from buff, compared to a 200 AR dagger getting another 100 while also hitting much faster. Because buffs add flat damage as far as I know and don't scale with your weapon type/damage in any way.

It's long but exceptionally thin. The only reason you wield it like an UGS is because the length makes it too poorly balanced to wield otherwise. It probably does have less total mass than most greatswords. This is also why the AGS only has barely more AR than most greatswords, and only achieves that AR through its exceptionally high scaling. People easily forget that the AGS' damage is quite pathetic compared to the rest of the UGS class, and the only thing that made it good was the rolling attack being bugged.

Washingpole is always unnaturally heavy for balance reasons. It's mainly just an abstraction because, unlike straight swords, there aren't classes of katana, so it can't have a moveset that accurately portrays the way that the weight balance changes the performance of the sword, and it's just represented by its weight stat instead.

BKS has the highest stability in class, but can't parry, which is a huge downside.

People tend to underestimate how valuable parrying is on a medium shield because it has poor frames compared to light shields, but being able to setup parry is one of the most powerful tools a medium shield can have because it effectively makes you unpressurable. Despite having high stability, BKS is vulnerable to sustained pressure from a small and fast weapon, because you can simply continue to step forward and swing as they backpedal or roll away. Lothric shield can deal with this because it has the ability to threaten setup parries against aggression, which effectively shuts down a lot of sustained pressure options. That easily makes up for the difference in stability, if you ask me. The only time I'd choose BKS over it is when an enemy has high fire damage on their weapon or when I'm using a weapon that benefits greatly from 1H WAs, like Lothric's Holy Sword.

I like the concept of the spell, and I loved Fire Snake in 2, but I think it desperately needs some fangs because right now the damage doesn't really match the risk. People only respect it because they don't realize how little damage it does.

Yes. The non-heavy soul arrows are really quite fast. Their problem is actually more to do with the fact that their projectile moves fairly slowly compared to dart and doesn't track as well, so they're still fairly easy to avoid.

IIRC, you can actually combo some spells into a Great soul arrow shot for true stunlock.

How do you go about your playthroughs to make sure you aren't overleveled for boss fights?

Leave vigor and end at base and invest just enough to use my weapon of choice for that playthrough, then pump vigor to 20 and don't touch it again until Lothric Castle. Same thing with END, except I limit it to 15 until Lothric.

I generally don't start to bother with scaling stats until Irithyll.

So I end up just carrying a tonne of souls around basically until Lothric castle, at which point I dump the whole load and go from like level 40 to level 80 all in one go. It has backfired a couple times as the game's buggy and rushed development has caused be to lose half a million souls no less than 3 times due to respawning at a bonfire and immediately falling through the world geometry to my death.

Because fromsoft doesn't care about duels and needs to make sure that there are weapons strong enough for singular invaders to win 4v1 invasions.

In other words, weapons that the average pve-player won't encounter, but the invader can min-max around to even the odds

There's always a few weapons in each of the "fast and extremely strong pve moveset" category that get way too much damage because they're intended to be tools for invaders to abuse to even the odds.

Same reason the Hornet ring still hasn't been nerfed.

The problem with trying to balance around both invasions and duels, is that imbalance is necessary to balance invasions, as an invader needs some way to be more powerful that their opposition to balance the numerical disadvantage. You can't balance imbalance for asymmetrical invasion pvp, and balance for symmetrical dueling pvp. DaS2 only got as much balance as it did because the inclusion of an arena obligated fromsoft to balance with dueling in mind. Clearly, the decision to exclude an arena in 3 despite its popularity in 2 is a very conscious gesture towards invasion-centric balance.

So stop being a smashfag in your pontiff hugbox and start abusing cardcaptors, rouge and glaives to crush squads in Lothric Castle.

The fact that they continue to make balance changes targeted explicitly at invasions and striking a balance between the power of the invader and the power of the host is a pretty clear indication that they care much more about balancing invasions than about your final destination tourneyfaggotry.

This is the same reason FGUGS got nerfed, by the way. It wasn't great for invaders to use because it couldn't 2shot most phantoms and couldn't prevent damaged phantoms from running off to heal, but jp release was filled to the brim with squads of 4 in which all 4 players were using FUGS, and the combination of constant HA and constant swinging from 4 different massive fuckpaddles made the squad not only completely unassailable, but also meant that a single mistake for an invader was an instantdeath 4-hit combo.

So they murdered FUGS and buffed invaders stronger as a result.

This makes me consider how weird the Finger works in DS3 in the first place. It's pretty much designed to encourage gank squads since the three phantoms will appear immediately but invaders will march one by one into a four-man pile up. At the very least it should summon reds and purples as quickly as possible to match the number of phantoms in the fingered world.
