I had terrible luck in my 2-8 placement matches though. Players leaving in literally half the matches I already went up to 43 from 40.

FtH is literally worthless. There's NEVER any reason to FtH when you can just headshot shit. The only reason you'd ever use FtH is that you literally can't aim for shit with McCree.

If you need a finisher you can use m1+punch instead. That's at least a hundred damage, and you don't have to empty your whole clip and put you in a reload situation. For FtH to deal over a hundred damage you need hit half your fan (wow such value, much finisher).

On the bright side of having had terrible placement matches. I now get at least 3 golden medals every game when I'm not support and it's pretty satisfying killing enemies over and over again.

You don't. You fucking learn every other character's playstyle so that it can maximize your ability to both help your allies by knowing what shit they need and your ability to know what shit your opponents are likely to do, so that you can get the fuck out of dodge before they do it to you.

This means you have to learn how to play every single character. Even if you're not the best, it's important to have a pretty good understanding of shit outside your usual comfort box.

Which of course brings me to another related point: Your "mains" should always just be "shit you fall back on when you find yourself in a corner because you excel at it", not "THE ONLY THING I PLAY EVER".

I can headshot someone twice for 280 damage. McCree's fire rate is 0.5. A full fan the hammer is six seconds, deals 270 (implying all the bullets will hit) and puts you in reload.

If a tank pushes on you, you should be headshotting them (this isn't hard, their heads are massive). Using fan the hammer gets you killed.

But what I don't understand is how this applies to KOTH maps when they're symmetrical. 6 people will win, 6 people will lose, there are no stacks or anything, general population trend will be 50% winrate. As a relatively new player that just really really likes getting deep into mechanics and tactics, I can safely say that the following things are things I wish other people at my level knew:

Widow and Hanzo require good aim to a degree, make sure you change widows scope sensitivity to 38 that gives you 1:1 speed in and out of scope.

The kicked here is of course that since McCree can start shoot a bullet as soon as he can react, he can shoot three shots at the same time as one fan the hammer (since you'll shoot at 0->0.5>1). This means you have a minimum of 210 damage deal (assuming no shots missed) at the same time as FtH fires off its load.

So you are losing out at 60 damage at worst if you don't headshot (and we assume FtH somehow miraculously manages to hit all its bullets), you still got three shots left in your chamber and you have the potential of headshotting, for a maximum of 420 damage if you score three headshots within the 18 units range.

tl;dr if you think using fan the hammer is a good idea, think again. But don't take my word for it! Go watch Taimou, the last McCree in ranked, if you don't believe me.
