Emhyr married cirilla (fake, but who knows),which is perfectly fine if somewhat unwise in the political climate. Real ciri shows up and everybody already knows she's his daughter. Nobody knew that except him and geralt. Did he tell everyone real ciri was actually his daughter? Did he tell them he mistook fake ciri for the real deal and married her anyway? Or did he just admit he fooled everyone? Neither makes much sense. In fact, even if fake ciri never existed (as W3 seems to assume) admitting ciri as his real daughter raises questions on his real past AND is pretty much unprovable. Rend works great when you build for crit damage and build into euphoria with toxicity. Abuse northern wind bombs to freeze big enemies and fully charge that rend for big damage.

Rend is amazing. Get it, use it, love it. The only reason not to get it is it might make the game too easy.

The thing is, once you get used to timing it so you don't spend any time charging it, it's much faster than strong attacks. It's faster than those "fast" attacks where Geralt decides he needs to spin first even when he doesn't need to close any distance. It's a giant middle finger to shield and polearm fags since they can't block it. And Severance makes it so you can use it from a safe distance away.

As for Alchemy, the only skills you really need are Heightened Tolerance, Acquired Tolerance, and Synergy. Protective Oils is great if you're running Ursine Armor, for monster damage reduction over 90% with higher tier sets. Hunter's Instinct doesn't actually work. Combine all this with Euphoria from the Blood and Wine mutations, run around with Water Hag Decoction (+50% attack power while at full health), Troll, and Ekimmara Decoctions (to keep you at full health), and have enough toxicity left over for 3-4 potions.

This game is not so difficult that it really needs to be min/maxed, and in any case it's easy to respec.
