You do know that Bandai did a survey a few years ago, to learn why Gundam wasn't selling as well, and discovered that jp youth no longer cared about science, or space?
Its one of the reasons why shows like Gundam, or Horizon in the middle of nowhere, or other science fiction are replaced with idols and LN adaptations. And original sci fi have next to no budget, unless they have music, or model sales to fall back on, Gonzo's history as an example.
Yamato 2199 and such are surviving on brand names.
>>145758967

>>145771797
I scrapped the maze. It let me fit four plastic factories in the upper left instead of two, but it'd trade three in the area below for two, so it wasn't worth it even of it did work.
As for the (bug I guess?), intersect two belts and they cross each other, this works no mater how many belts you use, but only if all the belts are going in the same direction.
So:
_UUU
RXXX
RXXX
RXXX
works
But:
_UDU
RXDU
RXDU
RXDU
doesn't work.
The specific pattern I was trying was four belts coming up the middle, splitting off to feed the factories at the sides, interweaved with plastic output going down and waste going up. I really don't want to erase what i replaced it with and build it again to screenshot it. Here's an approximation of what i wanted, using numpad ordering:

I remember those threads. when the chaos engine was little more than an insane CLANG catalyst. Then gradually, /v/ tamed the beast, harnessed it to power horrifying creations. The creations were still fragile and prone to exploding, but horrifyingly brutal in the way they cut down hundreds of knights, peasant and sheep. What we saw during those threads was nothing short of a testament of the horrors of machinery. We saw realitywarping sawblades phasing in and out of the ground, a burning black orb spinning fast enough to power blenders the size of castles. exploding bombs that decimated armies, and released untamed chaos engines among the survivors.
Blood covered blades breakin the sound barrier before the stresses of a chaos engines sheared, snapped, and smashed the machine apart. And the soundless screams of the ueen's fodder, sent against an unending flow of contraptions, more often than not designed to bring a painful death to all living things.
And then there's that thing. A small, elegant way of safely and conveniently regulating the power of chaos engines.
Something so horrifying, made so tame. It's like genocide in a box.
It reminds me of the demon core, the atomic bombs, and the pretty mundane nuclear power plants scattered all over the world today.
All those knights though.
>>145706953
In SPD, we learned from that encounter and took the concept further.
Firstly, the warhead was delivered as an unmanned vehicle - a bomb if you will. Propelled by logic'd push effect, possibly also able to orient itself correctly.
Delivered by a cloak&jam vehicle, the bombs would effectively appear out of the aether at close range, where the armour would prevent interception.
Seeing as warheads don't care about shields, the bombs were intended as a weapon against player stations, mostly a last resort.
Not sure if we ever got them working, as development went on low burn once we considered the ramifications of widespread use.

Imagine you're a political dissident, a criminal, a heretic or just someone who pissed off the wrong people. You're drafted and sent to a lonely guardtower in the middle of nowhere. The guards there are gibbering messes, broken men. You wonder what has torn their minds in twain as you gaze into the empty dead eyes of the commander.
They instruct you to make your bed a certain way, eat a certain way. They're convinced these rituals keep the 'worst' ones at bay.
You consider them insane, but eat your porridge with a fork and sleep under your bed like all the others.
The next day you stand guard. It's all quiet, the chilly fog masking sound. The guards and knights around you are shivering, trembling.
You see something far above. A latticework of wrought iron, wood and spinning blades, beating the fog into submission for lift.
Nobody looks at it.
There are sawblades, and balls of fire. Thick black smoke billows from the orbs of flame.
Nobody says a word.
The object glares at you. You can feel it, a presence. Something ancient, something ever present. You've felt it before, when Pa's cart broke, when the windmill fell back home.
It hovers there for a few minutes, then it starts climbing until it's out of sight. Oily flakes of soot fall like snow.
The commander commends you on following the rituals, they serve porridge with blueberries to celebrate.
The next day there's another contraption. It is bound to the ground, wooden beams and thick ropes are fixed together in an intricate pattern resembling a gigantic slingshot. It takes a few awkward steps and flings a burning orb towards you, and then a wooden beam phases through another and it explodes, showering you with shrapnel.
Ten men are killed. Blueberry porridge is added to the list of items that provoke 'their' wrath.

That's sort of what I thought when completing the "Duke's Plea" level. Here are all these guys, not a weapon in sight, trying to not be jerks. They even have a cobbled-together mariachi band welcoming you to their realm.
Then a giant tank made of lumber crushes ten men into a fine paste, drives into the lighthouse in the middle of the compound, pauses, and explodes, taking out the remaining men and structures with a blast of burning lumber, iron spikes, and corpses.
Is anyone into the /egg/like game I'm making? It has building and flying and 6dof and everything.

And some days, the contraptions don't harm anyone. Somedays they don't even move, or break down before any harm can be done.
People try to figure out why some break. If there is a weakness, why the lumber that constitutes their form sometimes crumbles and sometimes resists immense force. But for every harmless contraption, there's two horrifying death dealers made from lumber, iron and fire. And they just don't stop coming.

The flayer relished her position, as a flesh-priestess of the white flayers she had the opportunity to inspect every morsel that would feed her bloodied god. When the marble white floors of her ship ran red with blood, she felt herself grow moist under her ceremonial robes, all that meat, all that muscle laid bare. The fatty breasts of captured guard pirates, the stocky men of the onyx watch. She admired them all, especially as they offered themselves to her blade.
So much red. They were all red on the inside, she thought it beautiful, how they were all interlinked and the same. Maybe it was all the encouragement drugs in their systems, but she thought that the offerings felt beautiful too, as their fluids and gore swirled into the sacrificial grinder.
As more offerings marched to the podium, she excused herself, the scent of iron, meat and incense ignited something inside her. As she had done several times before. The pale woman retreated to her chambers in the middle of the ceremony, excusing herself. No one dared question a priestess, lest they wished to meet the flayed god beyond the pit of blood.
She closed the door behind her and immediately heard the chanting penetrate through the walls, her heart beat in tune with the pounding of the drums. Her robes were sticky with blood, that lifegiving fluid that rendered her garments heavy and deep crimson.
She liked to think that all fluids, not only blood, were acceptable offerings to the skinless lord, and she never wore anything under the ceremonial robe. Her hands traveled down her white skin, her porcelain like breasts, the pale mound above her slit, moistened and dyed red.
She listened to the chanting, the whir of the grinder and thrust her fingers into herself in pace with the drums.
>>145794151
>Not using sorters :^)
I'm a shitter and i know it, but i couldn't stop until i had them unlocked
>>145794318
And here's the other part.
The heavy robe stuck to her skin, blood and sweat intermingled within the fabric. The drums increased in pace, she heard a screaming laugh, a shout to foreign gods, and the loving caress of the grinder's teeth on naked bone. She sighed and pinched her nipple, biting her lip till she drew blood.
Her nipples scraped against the garment, pale pink peaks covered in a slick red coat of blood. She used her other hand to pinch herself as her fingers darted in and out of her cavity, she thought of the busty women of the watch and the muscular men of the steel striders. How her hands had caressed their skinless flesh, how she had kissed lipless mouths as she fed them to the light beyond the grinder. One last pleasure before the final pain. How she envied those chosen few, to meet perfection. But she also took pleasure in being a cog in the flaying machine. The thought of all those souls enlightened by her hand aroused her further and she picked up the pace. outpacing the drums.
As the roaring crescendo of prayer and song penetrated through the walls, she climaxed. Mouthing the litany of sacrifice as she felt her fluids soak into the robe.

I either get lucky, and they don't throw a moray at me. Or while I'm about to make a push one creeps over that fucking mountain in the starting area.
Those CRAM shells are fucking bullshit, I think the Morays use Inertial fuses in theirs.
Because the fucking HE Blast is still enough to fuck up shielded turrets.
Maybe I just need to Git Gudder.

Jesus Christ man, grow a fucking spine and actually attack for once. Scrap the starting shitboat, trim down the starting shitfort, shit out a Rapier or something and go take over the RZ to your east. You should be heading out well before the 1h mark, maybe even before the first attack wave arrives.

This, especially considering that the campaign starts with a four-hour period where the enemy can only spawn extremely crappy designs. Make use of it, capture as many resource zones from them as possible before they can throw anything that could be considered even remotely scary against you. Not only it gives you more stuff to play around with, but it also hampers enemy reinforcement speed giving you more breathing room.

>>145846605
Why the fuck havent you made turrets able to have all their weapon blocks stored in the turret base, so the turret barrel can be relativley small, and use "turret barrel" blocks to fire the shots out of.
Turrets as they are now are fucking retarded because you have to make HUGE barrels that contain all the weapon/weapon/effect blocks.
Also you are killing your own game by making it so complicated. Every update adds more and more autismo things to do in the game, that only alienates average players more and more. Just making a normal ship now is a nightmare because theres so much shit to do and balance.
Energy/power, weapons, Turrets, docking drones, mining arrays, rails/jointed parts, storage blocks, logic blocks, home bases, shipyards, etc, etc, is overkill for 99% of people, and even for autismo people like me that love to build shit find lots of things in the game very annoying to deal with.
Your games already double digit playerbase will only continue to shrink.

So is raw HE the best all-round Nu-cannon shell type for DWG?
Or is there something better?
I'm using a 230m/s 4xHE Composite Tipped round now.
>>145859739
I think you should try with one or two high rpm low caliber gatling acc instead of a big one. A rain of 53mm sabot will eat alive every wooden bote you will find and they are fast and precise too.
>>145860360
>>145860360
I'm rolling around in the Dullahan atm it's sporting a pair of high RPM 120mm Gatling guns atm.
Why Sabot? because of the raw pierce?
>>145859739
HE does rather piddly damage without a shaped charge head, but should be enough to kill DWG trash. I used to recommend frags against them but then I realized that their armor is so trash that the damn stuff just perforated them.
IIRC the damage starts getting diminishing returns at over 3 same warheads, so throwing a flak or frag round to replace the fourth HE might result in optimal pirate rape.
>>145860457
>>145860457
Also I pretty much get the same RPM whither it's 120mm or 53mm (I've been under the impression a lower calibre for Coolers setup for a higher calibre would allow the lower calibre to fire faster?)
>>145860732
Ahah. Does that also apply to Missiles? No point in stacking more then 3 Warheads?
>>145860457
Sabot is generally the best all-purpose round out there due to combination of raw damage and speed, and hands down the best option for hunting fast flying stuff as even the dumb AI is smart enough to hit fast things with it. It sucks against heavily shielded targets compared to stuff like inertia HEAT or frags or disruptor EMP though, and has to be spammed to reliably pierce them. It also has the bonus point of not blowing the hell up when the ammo clips are damaged, unlike the other ones.
>>145860457
Pierce, kinetic and speed. Particularly speed since it makes cannons almost hitscan and thus a lot more precise. I usually go for s.head-sabot-solid and fiddle a little to get the highest kinetic damage and speed.
>>145860831
It might've been four with missiles, but don't quote me on that. If you have a fuckhuge missile it's generally always better to mix frags and EMP for the same reason.
>>145860831
Missiles are not that good right now, CRAMs put them to shame when it comes to raw HE power, there are a lot of countermeasures and they take a lot of resources to match the effectivness of cannons. There is a missile overhaul in development though, if i'm not mistaken, so they may return useful again.

The arena, which we have no reason to make small. If players want it, we could make literally planet sized arenas.
>Compared to the vehicles shown, how large can one build things?
Currently, as large as you damn well please. The issue is part count. Long struts take the same amount of physics calculation as small struts.
>How many players would at most be supported in these duels?
Eight, probably. Again, the issue is part count. If people want it, we can bake in player ships down to larger segments instead of all individual parts so we can increase the apparent part count by an order of magnitude. Currently EVERYTHING is physically simulated exactly the way you see it.

The issue with destructible environments isn't going to be making them, thats easy. Making it so that the level doesn't lag out the players and make everything awful for physics is the hard part. If it does happen, it won't be quite as detailed as ship damage.

Have you read about design patterns? Flyweight and some others might be helpful there
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_design_pattern
>>145891081
We're actually in the process of having a system to bake in smaller struts into larger ones so it reduces the part count and makes more sense structurally speaking.
>>145891850
The issue isn't memory, its a cpu bottleneck in the physics system that has nothing to do with total potential of the cpu, but instead more to do with tickrate of the physics engine itself. I think that's what Flyweight fixes anyway. Good reading though, I'll look into it further.
It'd be nice if we could spread the physics over multiple cores, but that might fuck with multiplayer if a player doesn't have as good of a processor. Idunno.rendering these fucking webms takes the longest

I didn't realize that you could link the areas together until I was in the middle of figuring out steel production. I've yet to try harnessing the power of that mechanic.
Is it worth considering a Factorio-esque design, where you have one area full of oil production, one area full of gas/coal production, and you route each of those areas into a third area full of plastic production? The conveyor mechanics seem almost identical to Factorio so I feel like it should work, but the risk of jammed up belts are a much worse problem here.

>>145944892
>REM

Define "complex". Existing factorio mods are more complex than actual steam power plant design if actual steam plant design were translated into what factorio is capable of representing.
The reason I'd argue for more complexity in steam plants is because they're currently nearly as simple as solar, and nowhere near as good. It's wasted game design opportunity.
The picture I posted in Factorio would just be two new buildings, extra boiler inputs, and different function (not tech levels, *function*) turbines, then add temperature drop per pipe length.
It's really just a tradeoff between
>cost
>output/size
>efficiency
All you need are the temperature and pressure, which Factorio already tracks.

>What do people want
OK, speaking of game "complexity" first since you asked, I'm more of a "balancing it with fun" kind of guy. More "complex" and "realism" just for the sake of it, and applied to extremes, is just dumb. Eg, killed IC2 in minecraft ded because they didn't know when to stop. There's always a sweetspot between boring simple (Eg steam and solar in Factorio now), and Maximum Autism.
So to answer your question, do I want "this kind of complexity" in your game is actually relative to what's already in there. The real question is can you make it engaging or interesting without being a chore.
ACTUAL game feedback I want to shoehorn in here if you're willing to listen since you're pretty early in development:
There's a market opening in Spess games since Corneroids was abandoned. You might have to try it to see what I'm talking about, but specifically:
>Manual thruster controls in 6DOF+Inertia
Flying ships took *skill*, with thrusters manually mapped/grouped to your keyboard. Every design handled differently w/ thruster placement and strength around the center of gravity and thruster layouts actually required thought which was complicated by how vunerable they were in combat. Lose a thruster in combat and often have to 'relearn' the 'feel' of it on the spot.
>No 3rd person camera
Only view through destroyable cameras mounted on the ship.
>Combat-capable ships required at LEAST two people working together
You couldn't control thrusters AND turrets at the same time. Anything bigger than a motorcycle required teamwork.
TL;DR, *function* dictated spaceship design, not form.
You know what every spess game on the market is doing right now?
>"Press W to thrust forward" simple flight model
>3rd person camera
>Dreadnaughts controller by 1 guy
>everybody just builds "that ship from ___"
>>145946564

>>145946684
>>145946564
>Machinecraft
>The game where everybody just builds Gundams and replica tanks/ships
>the TL;DR going over your head completely
TL;DR again, if you can actually make function dictate spaceship design like Corneroids did, you'd have that entire market to yourself.
>>145945627
Finished watching the first video, not the linked one, as well.
REM's ship designer is nice, and a change from voxels is refreshing. Otherwise I'm not seeing anything new or different yet. Looks like it will be a simple arena shooter. Spess Engineers has the asteroid mining and advanced detail voxels down, and tried to complicate "crafting" to be "realistic". Starmade has the "build whatever you want and fly it however" down, and has arena maps.
Overall I think it needs something to actually stand-out, more than just the non-voxel design though prior non-voxel indie projects like this fell through.
Not necessarily the exact ideas I'm shoehorning ( I've been blue-balled by Corneroids for YEARS now ) but just something.
Will keep an eye on REM's development, it could be promising.
>>145938478
10/10, thank you for sucking dicklitterally the only good thing I've heard this week. I'm abandoning all mortal threads for gaemdev.
>>145947507
Machinecraft does have function dictate design though, thruster placement matters, you can control thrusters with keybinds, the volume and mass of blocks matter - it's just that there's a lot of ways to control them like making invisible thrusters, invisible blocks, heavy blocks and more.
will /egg/ turn to /remg/?

>>145948638
>Machinecraft has actual design considerations!
Yes, but the difference is, as you said
>it's just that there's a lot of ways to control the limitations
and so everyone makes Gundams. Because they can.
Corneroids you couldn't just tweak settings to make stuff work. I remember people put original research into ship design because the game presented limitations and challenges to work around.
Copying ships from shows, movies, etc really weren't that great. Probably the first and last time that ever happened in an /egg/ game.

I don't like the smoothness of the struts, I like the like of Besieges brace for example because they're low-poly rectangles that look more 'rigid' instead of what would be more appropriate for an elastic cord - unless you want to do something like wire rope, you should make the struts look more like steel bars welded together instead of rubber.
The overall dark grey color of the ship isn't very appealing if you're going for a Tron look as well, might as well make the struts colourful and when you add armor plates make those look black or have camo/designs
Is the adventure mode in FtD any good? Looks kinda comfy building a singular bote you have to survive in.
>>145949937
How's armor, damage, etc, going to work?
I see skeletal beam framework for the body, and the only thing with volume were pre-fab functional parts.
What happens if I ram one ship into another?
Can someone help me do the math on a hypothetical Factorio generator?
I'm trying to figure out what the net-energy cost of producing Solid Fuel is, (with and without upgrade modules + beacons). Basically, I want to know if it's possible to have net energy production once you've hit peak oil (0.1 oil/s from pump) since at that point the oil is unlimited.

Well for starters you only get 50% of the fuel's energy out of a boiler anyway, so solid fuel is only worth 12.5 MJ, and before modules at 0.1/s at 90kW draw simply producing 10 units of crude oil for the refinery and onwards (more power lost there), is already 9 MJ upfront out of the 12.5 MJ.
With efficiency modules capping out at 20%, it might be possible but your power generation would be limited to how many oil patches you have, very spread out. Then power production would choke the other oil product productions.
>>145774378
i remember the terror of realizing what NT would do to us poor coppers if they got their hands on unstoppable guided bombs and subsequently scrapping use of the idea while keeping it as a MAD option. good timesif anyone is curious how the bomb worked, it was basically a push module hooked up to a clock, a blast shield cover hooked up to an area detector with zone blocks in a line directly in front of the blast shield to detect an impending collision, and a bobby AI and basic 2 block laser beam weapon to keep the bomb pointed at the enemy
everything would be toggled on via a wireless block that you would hook up to your ship, along with an activation module you would press to "arm" the bomb for proper safety management. once the bomb gets close to the target, the blast shield covering the warheads retract, making the warheads what collide with the enemy (triggering the warheads manually was kind of unreliable due to latency, better to let the server decide when the warheads are close enough)

>before modules at 0.1/s at 90kW draw simply producing 10 units of crude oil for the refinery and onwards (more power lost there), is already 9 MJ upfront out of the 12.5 MJ.
You make the assumption that 10 crude oil only results in 1 solid fuel, which is awfully wrong.
Without modules, you should end up with 7.25 solid fuel per 10 crude oil.
>>145950614
If you manage to have net energy loss from oil-based power production, then you've fucked up something bad.
A depleted oil well produces 2 MW (raw burn value) of solid fuel, even without modules. Adding more speed modules is wholly worthwhile.
Adjusting for boiler inefficiency and energy used for manufacture (and assuming perfect ratios), a setup without modules should yield 844 kW per depleted oil well.
Adding T3 pink modules in refineries and plants bumps this value up to 1096 kW.

Docking station, but guess what, even that is limited for basically ZERO FUCKING REASON. You can't, for some reason, use a docking station on something that is already docked, even though it should have zero issues.

Something also *might* happen when making a huge fucking 10MW engine in real life, too. Never stopped anyone, because they aren't getting restricted like some lobotomized fucking toddlers on a nuke sub.

>>145959251
Theoretically, yes
>>145959251
No, eventually if you mix the materials you can expect a jam.

true. if you're getting to the belt limit 10 items per second you can expect jams, even if you're not exceeding 10 per second.

As long as the plastic doesn't fill up it will be consistent, splitting from a belt instead solves that problem though

>>145967121

That means your steel foundries can't use that much coal. Probably you could use a single coal buyer to feed two foundries.
>>145967328
>>145967454
Found the problem after posting, the problem was in the iron ore belt. The refinery was working at strange intervals, less than half the optimal output.
I tried the single coal for two before but then the iron would clog.

>>145971793
Most things when are being built by someone are displayed in a isometric view, projections and as many sections as required to understand them. Most objects can be described with 3 views (although with only three there is space for ambiguity depending on the object). I'm into EE so it's no my area but metal working, civil construction, plastic shit use them constantly.
