Thought I'd see if I can build my forklift even better.

Using electric motors instead of controllers now. It's an ass as anything that needs to reverse needs the joints doubled, and where the speed has to double relative, it needs another joint per direction. So between the upper and lower arm has 4 joints in it.

Why not just make it look more like a small tank turret instead of a big gun on a swivel joint.

I'm talking about the rear, it's just so weird for a big gun. Make it an oscillating turret or something, a nice rear structure instead of that pen cap on the back. Or make it a fully detailed breech, you already have shell casings.

been working on the power, and now it can lift my old forklifts. A happy side effect is as I'm using more joints to do this set in one direction only, it's acting like a brake for the single downward joint, making it a lot more controlled.

Small things like a 0.50cal machine gun (ha!) could be belt fed rather easily, correct. However, the larger the thing, the slower we generally want it to reload.

Everything is going to be balanced around cost. You can have a ship that is a cockpit welded to a machine gun with some maneuvering thrusters, or a massive box with thirty thousand redundant engines and thrusters, but really shitty armor because you spent all your money on spinners for your thrusters or some shit.

The cockpit and minigun is going to have a massive maneuvering and dodging advantage, so I'd put my money on him.

Everything you add makes you heavier and more expensive, so its a slipery slope of

You could have chemical lasers that vent gas and replace the cartridge or just have electrical lasers that vent coolant. Maybe both.

It would be cool to see heat as a balancing factor for certain weapons and systems. I also could see it being a good way to balance between larger and smaller ships naturally since the square cube law would come into play if heat dissipation was related to the surface area of a radiator part.

Heat really is an overlooked balancing factor for /egg/ games. Starmade could have solved a ton of the gigantism balance problems it had if there was a heat system that required external surface area to radiate it. It also would give large ships very obvious and exposed weak points instead of just being a solid block of ship.

I've started making a carabelle for early game CotE. The main issue is that the wind is too strong and makes it fly like a kite. I'll probably have to switch the sails for uglier tinier ones.

Gimballed stuff will be heavier, larger, more expensive, turrets more so. They will also have slower reloading because you need to reset orientation of the gun every time you want to reload it.

I've been around for forever. Since early star made iirc. Weapons like missiles, lasers, and whatever else makes sense will be added eventually. Technically we could already do missiles with PID controllers.

Most of the systems for running the ships are ironed out in concept, but we'd be open for suggestions of utility modules.

That means that either you have vertical force being applied somewhere, or your center of drag is above your center of thrust. I don't see anything that'd be shoving in the vertical, so it's likely the latter.

Before you rip anything off, try just prefabbing both masts and throwing them on spinblocks.
I'm 99% certain the giant flat face of the sail blocks and wood beams is throwing your center of drag way too high, and that's making you do loops.

Also, mast on a spinblock is necessary for the sailing AI to make best use of the sails.

The problem is you have to have multiplayer in mind during the earliest parts of designing the engine pipeline. If you don't, you might as well try to multithread a 32-bit game from 2006 because it'll be just as hard and work just as poorly. An engine that was never developed to play multiplayer very likely never ever will.

We knew this about besiege very early on and understood it meant multiplayer never. Sucks, but nothing can be done about it by anyone. Only a Besiege 2 can fix it and that requires a new engine.

It's not a shoehornable thing. It's got to be written into the entire damn pipeline. Shoehorning something like this is how you get studdering from hell and CLANG like we've never seen. Forget any kind of moving parts. The problem with multiplayer isn't that you have to squeeze every optimization you can out of it and push the rendering limits as far as you can get them to work, a multiplayer system has to be tied to the engine at every level, including the physics system, rendering pipeline, you've also got lag prediction and mitigation to work out, it's a complete nightmare.

Both, actually. We've already internally demonstrated both working alone, we just need to combine them.

The idea being that you build your craft exactly how you want your armor angled, then you can choose the specific thickness equivalent of the panels individually. Touching, smaller panels are then 'casted' into larger panels to avoid eating through the physics part count too much.

Projectiles have different attributes based on what, how and how well you're firing. Pic related is a really early pass of this idea. We'll be talking about this in the next REMcast.

Good luck, we're behind seven contingencies. SABOT, AP, HE, HEAT, Slugs, HEF, HE Proximity Fragmentation for the projectiles, then all the different missile types and lasers and masers, and a fucking morning star on a chain.

You're going to have to have some pretty amazingly hardcore thruster setup to not have problems moving around, given you have to have a thruster actually outside of your armor in order to move.

Also, you'll need a very good shock absorption design. Someone can and will rip you in half like pic related if you're lazy and they hit you with something hard enough.

How viable are anti-missile defences when nukes are involved? Dropping nukes via bombers is clearly out of the option, especially in the center of the country. Nuke the invading forces and their deployment bases. Knock out any suspicious satellites.
Nuke other nearby bases, like nato's bases in EU and their anti-missiles.

Nuke targets like bigger powerplants/chemical plants/etc, secondary military targets
Nuke the biggest cities.

All armor levels with different colors were scrapped and replaced with a single tier of armor. Honestly its better this way, and everything can be balanced around the one type of armor, instead of 12 fucking kinds.

Tiering has been changed multiple times. As of right now, tiering is based soley on CPU level of your robot. If you build a robot thats only 500 CPU, youll be put into matches with players in the 300-700 CPU range most of the time. If you use a 1000CPU bot youll be mostly put in with the big boys in the 1000-1700CPU range.

It hasnt changed much really, but the new UI they added int he recent patch is annoying as fuck with how it needs a load screen to transition between the garage bays and the editing/build mode.

Yeah, EBIC LOOT is hated by pretty much all the players. It was a retarded choice. You have to scrap all the garbage items you win through matches, to get "robits", and then spend those "robits" on parts you actually want in the "Forge" which is just the fucking parts shop from before. Having an actual funny money currency as a payout after matches was better in every way.

The auto healing is nice to have, but it really needs to take longer to kick in, and take longer to heal you back to 100%. Right now it only takes 10seconds to kick in, and heals you in about 3 seconds. Thats enough time for some faggot to fall behind a hill as a worthless lump because you blew him the fuck out, and then he comes back at 100% in around 12 seconds and rapes you because you are busy fighting somebody else.

Some of us play now and then, but hardly ever anymore. The game is unbalanced as fuck, and seems to get more and more fucked up and casualized as time goes on. Freejam also still has a hardon for fucking over planes as much as they possibly can.

Flak is OP as fuck against flyers and tears planes apart. A single flak player can usually ground almost all the flyer son the enemy team. And now you have MULTIPLE players on each team carrying flak almost all the time. Planes get ass fucked and are worthless, but copters can at least easily drop behind cover and hide easily with their easy mode auto balancing controls.

And theres lockon missiles now which also tear planes apart. And rails.

Flak Cannon, and a power module to boost your power regen. Youll be fucking up flyers for days. Just take some SMGs/plasma as well for fighting other people on the ground.

Also the new mech legs are OP as fuck, and better than pretty much all other movement types. They go sort of slow, but they are tanky as fuck, never fall over or lose balance, and have built in electroshielding. Take 2 legs and laugh at all the fags trying to get by on 8 wheels/hovers who cant even compete with you.

The jump charge proceeds at a known rate if the warp drive setup is known, so it'd be fairly easy to write lua to accept warp drive settings as constants and charge for just the right amount of time.

The tricky part would be making sure you were pointed 100% on-target, since even a degree or two off at long range would mean appearing next to instead of inside the target.

You might also encounter granularity issues with the charge, though.

The lifeboat deploys automatically (well, it spins out over the water) when health is below 30%, and un-deploys when health is above 70%. It's pretty qt.
