I haven't heard of redpower, but I always used to play with an airship mod that would let you move and rotate your grid. I tried looking it up, I think it might be called 'Archimedes Airships' now.
As a kid I read this book series about a land where rocks rose when heated, and people would use them to control airships. Bringing that to live with the airship mod was incredibly satisfying, it was fun to build a docking tower and tether a bunch of ships to it.

There's no turret, so it's clearly an SPG or TD. Either that or some retard thinks tanks don't need turrets to be effective and has no concept of how a tank fights.
It's fuckhuge, so it can't serve as a TD or take hits because the armor will be paper. Either that or it'll sink through concrete.
The secondary cannons make no sense, given that something that big can't turn worth shit and they have a godawful field of fire.
The cannons in the track skirts make even less sense since they have literally no field of fire and can't possibly be manned.
There's basically no ground clearance for the undercarriage.
All in all the only possible usage for it is an amazingly well prepared ambush or as artillery. In both cases, it'd be infinitely more effective and cheaper as a bunch of SPGs or field guns.

0/10 would not hail the creators.

a few patches ago the forums had a development thread for small mechs. i downloaded them and they were all enjoyable but they mostly no longer function.

the AC's are good. Better when piloted by the player but are functional with AI. They have shields that are effective against similar powered units. The Twin guard have two mechs of similar size, one in drones and one in thrustercraft. Both work like Macross Valkyries. The weaker, drone category one manages parity with the AC, though fares poorer with shields activated and would be merely a nuisance if the AI used the missiles. The thrustercraft version tears them to bits.

Fun as fuck and worth tinkering with.

Sensors are what I'm using right now, but it's a really shitty way because on my contraption, detected small debris can literally mean 4 different types of damage, and differentiating between them is a huge problem, the only solutions for which that I can think of are completely ridiculous.

It depends. Large vessels get better defenses because they have better volume to surface area ratios, and better offense because they have less surface area per volume.

But they're generally slower and easier to hit.

It also REALLY depends on the type and armament. A bunch of CRAM microbombers will wreck a big CRAM airship, a bunch of laser microfighters will die to a laser megaship.

Trying to make a mechanical calculator

Kinda wish for a modular system where you have turret mounts of different sizes that can accommodate different sets of weapons.

In the present day, surface warships are extremely vulnerable to attacks from fighters, drones and long range missiles on account of being relatively slow targets on a plain background. It makes sense that a modern boat's defenses should focus on knocking these weapons out of the sky before they hit. Take your pick: LAMS, CIWS, maybe even pinpoint jamming. All are active defenses that can be projected at least a short distance away to ships in the same fleet.

Let's suppose that in the near future, even large warships are unmanned. Their national operators manage to lawyer existing conventions on military robots such that the ships can maneuver and protect themselves without human intervention (e.g. argue that fighter jets are just "manned multi-missiles", and the SAM array is like a really big slow Arena system). The ships only need fleshbag control to attack a large radar blip without provocation, as well as teams of remote engineers control onboard ROVs to make any repairs that are needed.

This lets you maintain large standing fleets without spending much on crew maintenance and training. On the other hand you need to develop an AI to put the ships in formation and aim their APS in the appropriate direction. Suppose you have so many cheap drone boats fighting so many wars that you can afford to use a genetic algorithm or some other form of in-the-loop tuning.

When two drone boats cover one another with their fields of fire, this is called "handholding", because if you draw lines from all of the CIWS barrels it looks like two dykes lacing their fingers together. The engineers decide that this is an undesirable situation because it causes the ships to pair off and disregard battle hierarchy (AEGIS destroyers should circle around drone carriers, and so on). They adjust the fitness function to prevent handholding, but due to a misplaced hyphen, their drone fleets begin to behave exclusively in this way. Military observers christen this phenomenon "forbidden love".

Yeah I had a feeling that with every patch the game just got more and more and more broken.

Like in the very beginning when it first hit steam, I was super hyped and I enjoyed it a lot. The biggest issue back then for me was that when making a FUCKHUEG ship the FPS would cry like an anime fan on promnight, but now almost everything seems fucked, it's wonky and clunky as hell and seems to be full of half baked ideas.

I think the most retarded one is the need for different thrusters in space and on planets. That's one of those things that SEEMS like a good idea initially but in practice you just end up having to put double the thrusters on your fucking hull.

The weekly updates were greatish way back when because the game had no features and they kept adding them. Every update would still break something, but we'd usually get something decent added.

Now what the game needs isn't basic building features, it's a commerce or trade system, bug fixes, optimization, NPCs and AI, optimization, less fucked up windows, but fixes, maybe even some optimization or bug fixes.

But we get exploding dogs, fucked up windows, shitty particle effects, and exploding dogs. They had to fucking disable one of their own 'key features' because of how bad it was. Their solution for moving bits exploding horrendously was to make them not move.
I will never not be salty as fuck about all of that. Gas the Marek and his ilk.

NASA, and or SpaceX will launch fully assembled modules up to said dry dock for final fabrication.

Depending on how far our skill with rocketry advanced in the next couple of years would help determine the time-frame for final construction, having to wait for "Launch Windows" is a pain in the fucking ass.

Not really worth it until you have refining in space as well, which would mean automated craft bringing asteroids to a refinery either around the moon or a geosynchronous earth orbit.

This way you also get fuel and plenty of fairly cheap building materials as well as rare and heavy metal to send back to earth.

Construction yards would probably be giant inflatable docks, at least in the beginning, bigelow aerospace are making inflatable modules for the ISS right now.

Dr.Eggman, i've made another boat for the Stranded Bots, i wanted to make a boat able to shoot bursts of three bullets from it's naval gun, and since i had extra space, i've added 4 AA guns and 4 frontal torpedo launchers. It can go at 12kph and it's just 1400 blocks and... 500k RP because alloy is expensive as fuck. It's AI controlled and it's only missing the paintjob.
