I was playing ZoA the past couple weeks but I hit a dead end with my save file and might have to restart. Despite being a "dead" mod, I really like it, a couple bugs and some weird things I had to do the other day editing some files in the outfit.ltx that isnt hard with some instruction.

Besides that, AMK Autumn Edition is really only the latest thing for SoC.

Like at the moment I can do it in two different ways. I either find a squad and order them to the point by talking to them. Or I go to the point in question and use the "Request reinforcements from HQ" button on the radio.

Isn't there any way for me to just be able to radio a squad from anywhere and tell them to go to a specific point? The current way I'm doing things is a huge hassle.

Except you are never on equal ground with the AI. At the start of the game you're more squishy than the AI, assuming both you and an NPC wear the same suit, which leads to the typical "tedious early game, fucking boring lategame" situation that happens in almost every iteration of STALKER (and I don't get why a lot of mods do that and why vanilla seems to do the opposite, it's fucking retarded, just have both the player and the NPCs take the same amount of damage for christ's sake). IIRC the AI doesn't have to deal with staying still while in ADS for a few seconds for actually having resemblance of accuracy either.

Then there are mutants, in OGSE pseudodogs are more dangerous than everything else, and I'm not even memeing. Did I also mention how some NPCs can shrug off 10 headshots and the only reliable way of killing them is F1s, and even those don't kill them outright, but rather send them in the "pls gib medikit" state?

Honestly, i found the game unplayable without SRP because you will bleed a lot from minor scraps and get radiation poisoning all the time, you'll need a lot of bandages to stop the bleeding, i have died constantly because of bleeding even though i started the gunfight with 20+ bandages, its just very frustrating, it doesn't make the game hard, just frustrating, but thats up to you honestly, play without SRP first if you like, see if it bothers you.

TFW operated the same way and that's ultimately my inspiration for warfare, so that probably won't change a whole lot. You could do that now if you edited the settings to be primarily random patrols, high respawn times, and low expansion aggression. Diplomacy has been on my todo list for a while though. Definitely possible just gotta get it done.

As for BAP, I was under the impression that the stuff in that would be in the next coc release? If not I'll look into merging it entirely; I had a patch made at one point but I'm assuming you tried it and it didn't work or was for an older version. Radios Galore I had left up to the guy doing it; he just said he'd do a merge with the recent version though so that'll get done. The only thing my all.spawn does is shorten level distances and adds some trader smart covers. the radios galore guy did the smart covers for me originally and as for the coc all.spawn, I had let the devs of coc know that I found inconsistencies that my custom all.spawn fixed and I think they fixed everything over time (darkscape was positioned, on the game graph, above the cnpp for instance, dark valley was incredibly far away from garbage despite it being close on the map, etc). I'm going to try to remove warfares all.spawn dependency so its more compatible with other mods, though the only traders that should act weird are the ones on new levels that didn't originally have them (so even BAP might work if you just replace the all.spawn in warfare with theirs).

Your issues with the expansion system will then be addressed when I do the static expansion system. Things will progress more naturally in that version; at least, it'll play pretty much just like TFWs faction wars did. Its harder to control the factions when they are random, so they do kinda weird things.

As for the ownership, this is the first I've heard of an issue like that from someone and unfortunately can't fix something I haven't witnessed myself as easily. Were the squads staying there or were they still the lighter color with a target they are moving to?

That's wasn't really the goal of the mod, but I can make that happen as part of an option for people (MUCH more easily with the static expansion system). I'd have a lot of people complaining if I forced that behavior though. But my plan is to do a sort of lore friendly campaign type thing.

What's your opinion on hud overlays, /sg/?

I think if done right they can add a lot more immersion to the gameplay, it also offers a good balance for more heavily armored suits due to it obstructing your vision more.

It feels kind of dumb to have an extremely small viewport on your helmet yet have your entire view unobstructed for me.

I'm also a sucker for shit like breathing effects and condensation ever since metroid prime.

AMK is a large overhaul mod in its own right, new mechanics etc. Blowouts, Dynamic anomalies that decay and are regenerated by blowouts, transmutation, bunch of stuff. AA2 is also a lot more than just pretty graphics, it adds new mechanics too. AMK AE brings most of AA2 into AMK, other than detectors I think.

I'll make it optional. It's only one line to add or remove from the random weapon script. Though I tweaked the script and it is much better now. I'm playing with warfare so of course there are npcs that are high ranking and even then I think I only found a g3a3 with iron sights early on. Everything else has been vz61s, one svd with a 1p78, shit like that. But warfare always kinda let you get better stuff fast. Spawned with an m16a1 which was fun (though thats the first time I spawned with a rifle; most I had gotten in tests before that were shotguns or just pistols).

I did a lot of graphics programming in OpenGL before starting modding with stalker, and one thing I did was write a deferred rendering engine (which is the system stalker uses; I was actually reading the gpu gems chapter on stalkers deferred rendering before I played the game).

Copy / paste that into warfare_options.ini, overwriting everything.

Factions have lower expansion aggression so they won't invade as frequently (you may want to lower them to 1 or so if its still too much), max active squads is set to 10 (so you'll probably only have factions send out one squad + patrols I believe), respawns are increased (7.5 minute respawn time for factions just starting out, two minute respawn time for powerful factions), mutants I increased spawn rates for; they respawn once every two minutes or so and only if there are less than 4 mutants in that level (mutants will travel from level to level though). max random patrol count is decreased, respawn time for them is increased, 75% chance for mutants to spawn in lairs in the initial population, 5% chance for random squads to spawn initially (meaning they will be pretty rare unless at the factions main base), and I think thats pretty much it.

I'm the type that if I see another human NPC running around in an outfit (custom NPC models aside) I expect to be able to get my mitts on it somewhere, somehow. CoC does a great job of branching things out like that, but its not quite complete either.

Most of my vitriol is saved for mods that basically go Jacket->Sunrise Suit->Exoskeleton and anything in between is either almost pointless or outright missing.

The problem is that if they wanted things to be realistic in that sense, they need to make the gameplay match the lore.

In a certain mod that shall not be named, for example, Noah and his dog will almost always die long before you meet them since their stats, equipment, and AI are sorely unprepared for a real fight, despite the NPC in question being a veteran hermit who has lived alone for years in the wilderness of the Zone.

Your options as a dev are to either make Noah a badass who can easily fight off any threat he could conceivably run into, thus making his in-game abilities match his lore, or slap a band-aid on the problem and just make him invincible unless the player themselves choose to kill him.

I don't doubt that its difficult, I was just under the impression that xray being a 32bit single-core POS was the biggest obstacle to doing anything genuinely interesting with the engine, so improving it would theoretically be top priority.

What do you guys think of purely economic artefacts? Like you can't use them for anything but they sell for a good chunk of money.

I was thinking about some useless artefacts spawning in this mod and sometimes being found outside of anomaly fields, ranging from extremely valuable to just a few hundreds on the side.

Might be cool BUT, price/weight ratios aside, there really should be some downsides in carrying artifacts. Artifacts giving you radiation if you didn't put them in lead containers is one of the few things I like about Misery I think that more mods should have it.

Maybe a ramp up in difficulty, like 500 rubles may not be a lot now but if even stepping a toe out of safety was like walking into a glass hurricane and money was scarce risking your life to crawl over 20 yards and shovel some worthless warped jewelry into a heavy lead container and then sneak back to sell it for enough money to cover the cost of eating for a few days the player might see it as worth it over just sprinting at max speed at it and emptying their double barrel into any dogs that may be around.

I think Misery has a lot of good ideas that are ruined by the bad ideas that get shoved in with it.

You'd have to pretty much remake the spawns from the ground up if you were to go that way. I'd play a mod like that - few humans, just the right amount of mutants, not many guns and most of them are shitty.

I would've already made my own Misery with blackjack and hookers if I had more free time and I knew how to program (and I'd probably know how to program by now if most of the documentation on the internet wouldn't assume that you're already familiar with coding, which I find mildly amusing).

Well that's a given.

But really, isn't programming and being able to figure how shit works while having zero documentation the most important skill if you want to see your ideas actually get implemented? You can always find some people willing to do the graphical part for you, or hell you could just "borrow" it. Same applies with plot if that's what you mean with writing.

A lot of the time this costs money, and when it doesn't they're usually either very lazy or very bad at it.
An artist or modeller willing to do it for free and also of decent quality is a golden goose.
