FyberOptic ported the modloader "Meddle" to 1.10 snapshots.

Thaumcraft and addons have some solid options. Thaumium is piss easy to make, and a decent material. The shock(lightning) and fire focus are good ranged weapons, especially with the chain upgrade on the shock focus. Runic Shielding is expensive to upgrade, but a very solid defensive investment. If you have Thaumic Exploration in, the amber wand core is excellent for casting and keeping your shields up, as it auto-regens vis, but has a low capacity as its drawback.

Witchery, I haven't used much personally, but know it has things like death protection poppets and such, as well as a bunch of potions.

id recommend a wildlife mod to add variety but i am not experienced with creature mods (they dont interest me)

I can confirm DD, RD and RC do work with RTG, but most of the time RC just seemed to generate those shitty meteor craters and those big-ass gear things in deserts. I never got those fancy buildings, or anything I added to it.

ChocoQuest kept crashing for me, but if it works, keep it. It's pretty dank.

That's the 1.8.9 Charset, it's just that the FML package name was changed so 1.8+ Forge won't detect 1.7.10- Forge mods and vice versa. Hobo threw it in there 2 months ago on user request and never noticed it's missing which clearly proves Charset adds nothing useful

1.8 doesn't really have a "killer mod", but that's similar to how 1.3.2 didn't really have a "killer mod" - BuildCraft 3.x became officially SMP on 1.3, but even then people were losing interest in the mod already. It only took until 1.4.6 and RedPower 2 becoming available for the version to take off outside of I *think* the IC2 community. If we don't see a killer mod, that probably means the peak creative era of modding might be over, which would - indeed - make 1.7.10 the most varied version of all time. We shall see.

From my own perspective, BTM16 2.0 will showcase a lot of varied mods for 1.9.4... Hopefully. Eh. I'm losing faith in modding myself, but then I have nowhere else to go so I'm just going to stay with the Titanic until it sinks and leave the lifeboats to ones in need.

unless you are a modder, and prefer forge's new render code or just like some of the of the other goodies that the newer versions offer, like TC5, chisels and bits, or intangible, there isn't much reason to play past 1.7. But that's personal taste, and that's fine if you prefer a few new mods over a lot of boring old mods.
i myself will probably update soon as there are a few waifu mods for one of the newer versions, or at least start maintaining multiple saves.

So I'm building a pack based around Dokucraft for a rather comfy low-tech playthrough. No Applied Energistics, no EnderIO, I've disabled Tesseracts, EnderStorage is a 3x3 storage, chickenchunks are capped at 25 chunks per (5x5 square), doubled the power requirement for the digital miner, and will probably be messing with the values of the Big Reactor to not be as overpowered.

Anything I'm missing? I'm wanting a zero-magic playthrough, bear in mind. All tech.

Ok lads I have a question about a problem I'm having trouble solving.
I have a toaster ,which only has 4 gb of ram, and on my toaster the current version of MC 1.9.4 runs better than any other version, but since I don't want to play vanilla, I'm trying to mod it. The only problem is that I installed Forge and it crashes my game automatically every time because it's incompatible with my current updated version of Java. I looked online and people say to downgrade however Java doesn't offer downgrades on their website anymore. So is there any way I can get Forge working at all or am I basically fucked when it comes to modding?

Grimoire of Gaia adds mimics and drider-like enemies. The mimics are just normally mobs though, they don't fool you into thinking they're real chests. Aether II has ones that do but they only appear in the mod's own dimension.

I'm not going to disagree with you either, and I remember perfectly how bad 1.7.2 was, but even early 1.7.10 was fine enough with Fastcraft and after the chunk fix was implemented it got even better. Next friday (june 10th) We're launching our historical RP minecraft server based around 1900 AD.

It is a historical rp server with plugins to help with immersion. Players make nations and these nations can trade, make treaties or alliances, and go to war with one another for land and glory. We're paying for our own board which we use for discussions regarding our server.

There will be a set amount of historic nations that can be claimed by groups of players prior to launch. All nations will have their historic borders already claimed. You can not make your own nation, you can either claim a pre-existing nation or join one. You can however get your own nation later by diplomacy or revolution.

We play on an accurate map of Europe, including parts of northern africa which will be unclaimed at the start and will be open for colonization.

We have created an original content resource pack with crackshot and custom weapons. You can use many different types of rifles along with flamethrowers, grenades, and artillery. Dyed leather armor will be re-skinned to military uniforms. There will also be brewcraft and you can sit in chairs (obviously the most important part). THIS IS NOT MODDED IN ANY WAY! This is vanilla.

When I enchant something and it says it costs 30 levels, it only uses about 3 or 4 levels of actual xp. Why is that?
For example, I just enchanted a diamond helmet with a cost of 30, yet my remaing xp is 27. Is that a bug?

The reason it costs so little is because it takes a long ass time to grind EXP anyway, it'd be stupid for people to have to spend a ridiculously long time just to prot III their armor.
