So I want to make my own weeb themes but from what I'm understanding if I want a music for the theme I need some extra files those nerds at gbatemp won't link (soundfoundation.dll, soundfoundation.LegacyFormats.dll, soundfoundationCtr.dll, ToolDevelopmentKit.dll and WaveCodecCtr.dll)

So I'm following the Github guide. On Part 3, step 27. When it says "Update your RedNAND to the latest version using system settings", do I actually go into Other Settings and click System Update? The guide's a little vague about that.

Repostan (the short version):

Switched from cakes to luma, MHX won't boot (nintendo loading screen hang) whereas it worked/works fine when going through cakes. PSMD and MH4U (cart) both boot fine. Lumas is launching through the provided menuhax boot file in the 5.5 download.

I've tried using the language setting thing, the clock settings, NTR, bringing in the cia's from one of the troubleshooting steps on the wiki. None of these work. I'm at a total loss for what the fuck is causing it not to boot when I'm in lumas.

Yep, that's why I'm bitching about it here instead of trawling gbatemp or whatever. From what little I did find I got the same as you, it should be crapping out when I try to boot MH4U as well, but it loads just fine. The only thing I can think of is that somehow in some way the eng patch for MHX is interfering with something.

If I can't solve it I'll just leave it, get a9lh done and grab MHG when it properly comes out. I sorta don't want to leave it though incase it's indicative of problems in the future.

Does it make the game list update in CIAngel with new releases and stuff? How often is it updated?

Does freeshop do the same thing?

So I'm following the Plailect guide right now. I'm on the 3rd section.

I'm starting to think none of this is really worth it. It seems like a lot of work and upkeep. I wasn't planning on doing much with this other than get Kirby and Smash so I can co-op with friends who don't have a 3DS. I was going to continue purchasing games on my N3DS either way.

My question is, is there a point of no return on this? Can I just stop doing all this and update to the latest firmware or will I get fucked?

The "point of no return" is when you format your SysNAND to unlink (part 3, step 21). You can still return with the sysnand.bin backup you made at the end of part 2, but it'll be a bit harder, and if you just randomly decide to update before restoring it then you'll be screwed out of your old data.

Yeah, pretty much. If you get to the end of part 4 then you have to finish part 5 to get a properly usable 3DS. At any point before the end of part 4 (before your SysNAND is 2.1), you can update to the latest version with nothing other than lost data, lost opportunities for hacking and an SD card with 1GB of space gone (which you can clean off with a partition manager on your PC).

If I already have stuff set up I can just skip to section 4 in the a9lh guide yeah? Or are there special considerations to make, my sysNAND and emuNAND are still sitting on 9.2 but the end of the section previous to that mentions updating emuNAND through system settings, will that break anything I have set up or are tools etc. mostly version independant?

Everything improves over time. Eventually something will come along which will make you want to fiddle with your 3DS some more to set up but since you've already got a CFW, changing it isn't a problem (especially with a backup in case you fuck up). Luma is now the 3rd CFW I've set up on my 3DS and though setting up A9LH when I was already using a working EmuNand with Cakes was a pain, it was perfectly doable. I just had to start over, basically.

What exactly do you think they're gonna ban? They can't ban the IP because dynamic IPs, they can't ban the console ID because they're not getting any, and they can't ban the NNID because it's not required. After I set up Cakes, which was the best option alongside ReiNand at the time, A9LH suddenly came out and he revamped the guide for setting up that instead. A lot changed so to play it safe I started from the beginning. The first 3 or so sections were a breeze because I had already done most of it but those were the easy steps anyway. Parts 4+ were the longest ones and those are what changed the most so I had to redo most of it. He had written that if you were upgrading you only had to follow a few of the steps but that left out a bunch of essential stuff so I did everything as if I was setting it up fresh to make sure.

So it wasn't terrible or anything, but you're gonna have to put in another shift to get it all done just like when you originally set your CFW up. It just takes a while.

Every time I try to launch eShop, I get error code: 005-4222. Am I banned or something?

Is there a reason flashcarts run slow on CFW? I used to have an 8.1 sysnand and a separate emunand, and when I ran my Supercard ds2 on my sysnand it loaded up DS games right away, but now I'm on a9lh and my flashcart still works, latest fw on it and and my cfw nand but when I launch a ds game it take a while to actually load it. Games run fine though when actually playing them.

Trying to get an emuNAND backup to work, but every time I inject it using emuNAND9 (clone emuNAND.bin to emuNAND) cfw no longer boots and just gives a black screen.

Is my backup just fucked or should I use another method? It's ~1.2GB and a 9.2 n3DS.

The OGSE is actually dumped, it's been dumped for a long time (cart only albeit, I don't think there's any eShop download codes for it at all). What we're missing is the bonus game thing that came with it, which came via an eShop download code only. I think it's first prints only too. I'm not sure what it's even called.

Fucking hell. Went to continue work on my 3ds after doing the first 3 parts of the tutorial. Noticed my circle pad was sticking a little (haven't touched this thing in over a year) so I went to pop it off to clean under it because I could've SWORN the circle pad came off and you could even get 3rd party versions with different feels. Well the thing broke off even though I barely pulled on it. The plastic nubbin under it still works fine so I should be able to repair it with a small dab of superglue.
