I say keep it one of both, more variety the better.
For area, I suggest either desert or upcoming Erebus/undead continent. So maybe zombies/skeletons/fennec foxes/snakepeople/vampires/demons/etc.
And a quest template: someone gives you a cursed BLANK to transport (what the PC's supposed to do at the end, up to you. transport and destroy, transport and give to someone else, transport and place on hidden altar whatev). The curse in some way makes transporting it harder because it makes the object/PC/anyone they come across/the area around them BLANK. While transporting it, the PC is approached by BLANK who wants them to give the object to them/attacks them for the object/seduces them for the object/wants them to destroy the object (if not already doing so)/etc. If the PC fulfills the quest they are rewarded with BLANK, but miss out on BLANK (ie destroying gets them gold but not permanent stat buff from using up the object or vice versa).
Just fill in the blanks with little details and you're good.

I really like that quest idea. Perhaps a precious and powerful stone that was stolen from a temple a long time ago. Without it the temple disintegrated into ruins over time and the religion was slowly forgotten. However the high priestess cursed the stone, and its owners have befallen terrible deaths. Now the eldest daughter has just inherited it and wants to prevent the deaths of the rest of her family.

If you return it to the temple, she rewards with a hefty sum, and the descendants of the temple guardians give you rare artifacts, enchanted weapons, and protection amulets.

If you sell it you get the money from the daughter as well as a hefty sum of money. The downside is that upon selling it the descendants of the temple guardians attack you, and become a recurring mob in the desert.

If you destroy it, you get the money plus a sum and items from a third group which believes the gem only causes conflict.

When you return, both the sister and her younger brother are so thankful for you saving their lives and entranced by your cool hero antics that you can fuck either of them.

I feel like the last part of that is nonsense/biased. Getting a headache

I need to discuss something.
Since the fortress room discovery was streamlined I pondered about adding a "map" item that reveals the whole fortress to speed up the upgrades of the fortress and allow access to waifus in general.
However, putting a map on the library just because doesn't seems to be a good option, because I want to reward exploration.
I have two options. The first is adding encounters in the library and trigger the map drop randomly. But that seems redundant since you can just explore the fortress.
The second is adding a questline in the fortress that ends with you discovering the map. But that also seems redundant since you can still just explore the fortress.
The third is just adding the map and calling it a day.
What do you think?

I kinda dig it personally. I actually think the entire game still holds up if you ignore the jank character models. Stylization makes sense (and the concept art loading screens help reinforce it), script's surprisingly decent, you get to beat up rich assholes, and it's surprisingly progressive compared to other games at the time. Or at least as far as I can tell from replaying it, been a while since I beat it so it's basically completely new experience again. In fact if they just updated the character models a bit (or made them match the concept art more. Gary in loading screen art = cute. Gary in game cutscenes = fishlip monster) and added more current cliques or dialogue, it could come off as a decent current gen game. Plus love that the environment looks decent without inflating load times like current games have.
