Barbarian AI is now smart and sends out scouts of their own and will defend their little bases of operation.
Other Civ AI's now have certain prerogatives that they'll always have and clearly define for you how they'll work rather than the previous ones where you just kinda had to guess. Some of these are even unique, like Egypt who'll always buddy up with people with strong Militarys.
Civics is now a tech tree like science and unlocks other things with it too.
There's more than a single "war" button for you to press now. You can launch a surprise war which paints you as a kind of cutthroat bastard or a justified war where the opposing side is clearly in the wrong and you declaring war on them isn't unreasonable.

This golem talk reminds me of the nanomachine colony girl. I think I might have an idea of how maybe it could work.

Basically a human body created specifically to house countless magic microcrystals that circulate through her body, controlled by a powerful main magic crystal placed within the central nervous system.

How it works is that the main crystal is attached to the central nervous system and brain stem, thus allowing control of the main crystal.
The main crystal, being permanently attached to the brain stem, is able to mend and alter parts of the body at the colonys will. Then the microcrystals come in. They circulate through the body and follow the main crystals actions, acting as many tiny proxy crystals and drastically accelerating the process.

Upside of this is the colony can regenerate almost instantly from any sort of damage or near instantly change shape.

The downside is this sort of thing requires something that doesn't have a soul, because being able to rapidly transform your body like that would do some serious shit to you if you had a soul. Not to mention your body might try to reject the crystals being placed in you, and that's just asking for problems.
So it only really works on things who've lost their soul or had none in the first place, like a homunculus.

So not only is it taboo in both the crazy magic user with potentially no soul side of things and the "jesus christ you made a human body to do weird shit with that's fucked up" side of things, but also in the "You put what inside of WHO?!" sort of thing going on too.

Also very resource and time demanding. A crystal that powerful yet small enough to put in a body isn't easy for just any mage to do, nor is making it control countless tiny crystals. A body made specifically not to reject it isn't easy either. The only other alternative is put it in somebody who's lost their soul, which is dangerous as you don't know what they'd do, or experiment on people till you find one; also dangerous.

The first issue will be a retweak of the fortress in general. The intro equipment was unbalanced, the way rooms are discovered is convoluted, and the fortress doesn't work as a proper starter area.

The third issue will be the crafting system. It needs to be expanded and improved.
