Real battleships had such a setup against torpedoes but with variable properties, namely more space and less metal towards the bottom. You may want to invert this though, since thick metal protects against HE and space protects against HEAT. Clipping the shields into the 'skin' may also work to save engine power, but I'm not positive it works against rounds that have already hit.

Do you even suspension geometrics?
The axis of the springs its linear, and the movement of the suspension parts are like a push rod, like the front most of the F1 cars.
when the suspensio goes down, the distance between the front wheel expands, wich contradic the linear movement from the springs.

Does this works??

After some time spent minmaxing, I'm not able to get more than 475min 500max power out of a 3x3x5 space with RTGs. My setup is a 3x3RTG and three 2m RTG, one electric engine, the rest 11 blocks of battery. Does anybody have a better setup?

At this point wouldn't it be simpler to use a big injector engine?
>>
>>143728990
I can get much better PPB out of a fuel engine for most reasonable runtimes, but I'm trying to git gud at RTGs.
>>
>>143729108
Here's a solution:
build bote
add as much RTGs at it can hold
add batteries
make it supply other botes with power
>>
>>143729335
I'm trying to optimize power output for the RTGs, I can already get bote boting on RTGs just fine. Outsourcing the RTGs also still doesn't solve the ratio problem. Which I really am just going to have to do calc on, I guess.
>>
For any given system of N blocks, where X blocks are electric engines, Y blocks are RTGs, and Z blocks are batteries, the equation for stable power output is given by:
f(x,y,z) = max(z/10,g(Y)) where g(Y) is the total electrical engine output Y blocks worth of RTG can support.
Now all I need to do is figure out what the flying fuck g(Y) is and it's simple math from there.
>>
>>143730136
Correction, z/20.
>>
>spengies soundtrack is actually good
>is in a strange file format that vlc cannot properly play unless it converts it
>batch converting things in vlc doesn't work properly because i'm retarded/lazy/it just doesn't work

>>
>>143731042
>vlc
>>
>>143730136
>>143730384
Correction again, Z*50. I care about battery blocks, not battery capacity.

A 2m RTG stabilizes at an output of 30.
2 2m RTGs stabilize at an output of 61.
A 4m RTG stabilizes at an output of 61.
g(Y) will be assumed to be Y*15.

This means that the total power output of a system is max(Z*50, Y*15)/(X+Y+Z). The only reason to not have X be 1 is redundancy, so I'll remove X from consideration. I'm only concerned with the battery:RTG ratio anyways.
Hence, I need to find the maxima of the piecewise function
f(Y,Z) = {
Y*15/(Y+Z) | Y*3<=Z*10
Z*50/(Y+Z) | Y*3>=Z*10
}
>>
>>143731232
what part of
>because i'm retarded/lazy/it just doesn't work
do you not understand?
i still use vlc because i can't be assed to learn anything more.
and because i've never really needed to convert things before.

And i'm not fucking learning ffmpeg commands.
>>
>>143731235
I get partials of
d/dy = 15*Z/((Y+Z)^2)
d/dz = -15*Y/((Y+Z)^2)
and
d/dy = -50*Z/((Y+Z)^2)
d/dz = 50*Y/((Y+Z)^2)
Neither of these sets ever equal, so I'm only concerned about my boundary points. The only valid boundary point I have is Y*3=Z*10, as Y or Z equaling 0 would mean no output.

Hence I conclude that the optimum ratio for RTG power is three blocks of battery for every ten blocks of RTG, and will output 150 power for every thirteen blocks thus committed. This results in a PPB (ignoring electric engines) of 11.53.

MATH!

>>
>>143731817
As an addendum, having a spare battery block or two is a good thing and is necessary to actually sustain peak output because RTGs don't output a constant stream.

So you dont have to worry like with saline/pumping about going out in public the next day with a huge obvious melon in your pants. Its also fucking amazing because when you pump up really tight, if even fills your dick up like a balloon. Suddenly EVERYTHING is filled up tight and is stimulated by the internal pressure pushing outwards. Its hard to describe, but it feels really fucking good.

No, thats the other fucking side of the coin, and even worse.
Newest cars are based on aesthetics desigs, when everyone try new and old shit to get an "identity" like the audi or alfa grill.

What im thinking is a way to do functionlal design, not put vents on a car because it looks cool, because they are needed. along with any design choice, The car would end up like an F1, and i like it because of that, not because it looks cool, because it is a piece of fine tech.

>Can someone please explain what on earth this guy is doing? Blowing himself up like a balloon?

Yeah, hes inflating his junk like a balloon. All the N20 side effects on Wiki seem to all be from inhaling too much of it. I have no idea what the side effects of injecting it straight into your ball sack are. But hell, they use N20 to "inflate" people in surgery. When they have people laying on the operating table and need to do work on their insides they sometimes pump N20 into their abdominal cavity to lift their skin up as they inflate so they can easily work on their insides using those skinny tools and cameras they stick in through small incisions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide

You can buy N20 at lots of stores in whip cream chargers. Dumb ass teenagers use them to inhale the gas and get high. But they usually over do it and cause permanent brain damage to themselves due to oxygen deprivation.

Ive got almost $150 in robocuck money because before the EBIG LOOD patch I had a fuck ton of GC saved up from selling robots on the shop.

I can either spend it on prem time, or buy like 350 crates. Ive already got like 180 days of prem time left tho, from all those times they offered deals and fucked themsleves over by people getting them for free.

I could get the crates because they come with golden donator flags, and then fly aorund in low tiers with a missile launcher stomping new players screaming PAY 2 WIN!!

Cosplaying nature, I'd say the basis of the game is survival and procreation.
Since engineering games rarely feature lewd, we will procreate by building robots and machinery like a good transhuman.
Then we proceed to remove the kebab of primitive survival aka hunger, retaining the need for oxygen, for both survival and glory to atmosia shenanigans.

Defining survival and procreation, we stumble into the territory of actual gameplay.
Now, to determine what game need to have to be fun, we follow the 4X strategy. To survive and procreate we need:
to be able to explore our surroundings for resources
to be able to expand our infrastructure
a way exploit found resources, extracting and processing them, and building more machines from them
and finally, we need to be able to exterminate our competitors, who also need to be able to defend themselves

Vague but gives at least some direction.

Unless they're written by newfriends that only begin to learn the ways of modding, but those aren't many and if newfriend already isn't present then the mod is ded anyway.

what was the coolest thing you built with lego, /egg/?
I remember rigging up a full auto belt fed gun.
I later added another barrel powered by the same motor.
needless to say it annoyed the everloving fuck out of my parents.
>>
>>143874208
I added in basically every design submitted, modified a few, got a bunch of unworking designs working (e.g. Fleur de Lys), and I made that abandoned mine at the top of the hill like anon requested.

By the way, to the person saying that stupid ass shit about "hurr how do you fix the move over allied HQ, declare war and crush faction durr" exploit, I came up with a few simple solutions.

1) Make Open Borders a diplomacy option, and make it require you to be at least at X relationship (i think 20 or 25 would be reasonable). When you have it in effect, you can go over allied territories. If you dip below X relationship, you lose Open Borders. Now what happens next could be decided by how punishing/lazy Nick wants to be. Either any forces in allied territory get shunted out to the nearest friendly board section (would require a bit of work), or more simply those forces could simply be destroyed and maybe that faction could even declare war on you for being a deceptive butthole (because really why in the world would you insult a faction you have Open Borders with other than to sneak attack, or, logically if you losing relations with faction x from attacking faction y, it would be rational for faction x to suspect you don't have their best interests in mind if you're willing to attack their ally)
I think I am running out of space so
Cont... in next post.

>>
2) You have to have all units in your own territory to declare war on any faction. That's it.
2b) You must not have any units in the territory of the faction you are declaring war on. Again super simple.

3) Only ban movement in allied territory in the same board section their capital is in.
3b) Only ban movement in allied board sections that are within x (probably just 1 honestly) board sections of the board section that ally's capital is in.
3c) Only ban movement in the 8 adjacent squares around the ally's capital-containing board section.

4) Get relationship hits with other factions for insulting your allies. If you declare war on a faction that used to be your ally, you take a massive hit to relations with all factions and you can never go above X relationship with any faction because they don't trust backstabbers. Would pair well with idea 1.

There is literally no defense for all movement being banned in allied territories. It just serves to make the already barebones diplomacy seem even more unfinished and pointless.

From what i can see from my turret's triple 400mm cannons, they have gained 0.4 accuracy (from 1.0 to 0.6) and the cooldown has been shortened from 26 to 14 seconds.
Also, the damage buff is clear to see, 3 heat bullets that used to do 1k kinetic 4k explosive damage now do 4k kinetic 14k explosive without hitting anything important

No, Nick has made it so that you are not able to move any units into the territory of a faction you are allied with. At all. Not even to move through them to attack another enemy. "I think it's better if it's just left like this " -t. Nick Smart

A few threads ago I posted that this was stupid and someone rather passionately tried to defend the move, stating that it was the only way to stop an exploit in which players move their entire fleet atop an allied faction's HQ and declare war on them, basically a free victory. This anon asked if I had a better way to stop such a thing, and this was my reply.

You could also allow them to move through allied territory but be taking constant relationship hits, but that still leaves room for sneak attacking.

I am not asking any one to do shit or play by any made up rules. These are my suggestions to that anon and to Nick and N3X15.

Unless you are saying that 2b) has always been a thing, in which case I refer you to the pastebin RE: I am retarded.
>>
>>143891296
I rather meant that 2) by its own very nature makes 2b) redundant.
>>
>>143891579
Oh yeah, I gotcha. I guess it might not be conveyed well, but 2b) is more like an alternate ruleset to 2), not an addition.

Same for 3b) and 3c), they are just alternate but similar solutions but not additions to 3).
>>
>>143891913
So they are alternate rules.
That's what I was asking in beginning.
2b) is better

Pretty close to wrapping up some stuff Nick asked me to work on. The problem is that it's sort of snowballed since I had to refactor a bunch of things, which requires fixing references to those things. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, though, and I'm pretty much just fixing compile errors at this point. Once that's done, I should be able to finish off Helium and get it shipped.

Here's a hint at some new additions to Clover Island on /egg/heim. This lil' guy is Ol Trusty and he will help you stabilize new vehicles/designs and also help build/repair old designs. It is amphibious and capable of towing resources and designs across the island and map. Careful when driving at full speeds, the slightest bump or turbulent waters may cause it to flip

>>143894293
You are wonderful N3X15. I hope I didn't come off as demeaning or rude or anything. I understand that coding is a lot of hard work and nothing is easy, I just also really like this game and want the best for it, and the allied movement ban really confused me. Thanks for relaying my suggestion to Nick. I know you guys are working on a lot of big stuff and you can't think of everything/don't have the time to work on small stuff, but I think this is important and makes the game look overall worse as it is. DESU I didn't even know about the exploit until somebody brought it to my attention, but I just see so many better fixes to it than just banning all movement, you know? I could understand it as a temporary fix, but Nick's language made it seem like a permanent feature, which I am strongly against.

Because I like the idea of having complicated boundaries for my custom campaign, as well as factional alliances.

It also speaks to a pending issue whenever (ifever?) inter-faction warfare kicks off. Just because the WF decided to cut DWG territory in half shouldn't mean you have to go to war with the WF just to attack their enemy.

Finally, because there's no reason to believe anybody is anyone without proof, so my tripcodeless ships should be totally anonymous in enemy territory.

In any game I have ever played against human or AI I would never allow any of my allies to move through my borders. Griefing a faction by moving a friendly fleet up to its HQ (albeit losing relationship all the way) before declaring war is an exploit and if there no actual campaign map where the player needs to move through one friendly faction to reach another faction then I don't see an argument against the current system. Which is why I asked for a specif example of when Dr Eggman wants to enter a friend's territory

DWG territory is not cut in half by WF territory but WF is saying to you "go around me or go to war with me".

You can put a fleet move order in DWG territory and the fleet will move THROUGH WF but you will lose reputation with them for doing this.

When significant effort is put into the diplomatic and strategic side of the campaign game this may be looked at again.

we could keep one side of the planet in permanent light and fuck over whoever is on the other side

what would happen if we sped up the planet?

how fast could it go before either we notice or it rips itself apart?

how would we notice? would everything just start sliding east or west?
that would be some crazy shit
>>
>>143904691
There are relativity effects for rotation, desu.
And there's really no linear or rotating shit on quantum level.
>>
>>143905617
Things would have force applied parallel to the surface of the Earth. At lower levels of force this would be east and west, but at greater levels it would throw things into the air, orbit, or even out into space.
>>
>>143905617
Earth precess just like a gyro, (If you press a gyro down/up on the border it will start to rotate). Earth's orbit precesses too, the funny thing is that the orbit of mercury also precesses but it also does because of relativity. A nigger called milankovich studied how earth's orbit affect the climate and ice ages and that is all about interplanetary tugs, pulls and their relation to angular momentum.

>>143901383
Howdy Nick :). I've honestly never stabbed peeps in the back. I never even knew about this exploit or considered the possibility of it. But yeah I have a ton of reasons to move troops into the territory of my allies. Scouting the map so I can get a better idea of who is where without having to build massive satellites and radar dishes, placing mining platforms (which you could also make into diplomacy option, with a relationship requirement above open borders, which would make building resource gatherers and oil drills be until you are granted Mining Rights or some shit), but most importantly, attacking enemies who are on the other side of an allies territory. Thats a major thing. I don't want to have to go all the way around an allies territory. Not to mention exploration and shit. Even with the planet editor being a little limited, there are still cool locales to see.

On the map I am currently working on this is especially going to be an issue, as there are many factions scattered around the map. Not to mention, I planned on putting secret huts around the map that have tips, rewards, and even posters pointing out weakspots on certain enemy ships and such.

>>143904324
Ah, just saw this after typing my whole thing. I didn't know you could still move through allied territory. I thought you meant any ship from previous saves in friendly territory would cause relationship loss.

Thanks, some interesting thoughts there.

I'm afraid for every 1 person wanting to explore Neter (you can see it all in the designer) there are 10 moving a space ship above a HQ and declaring war hence why drastic action was taken. In the future special alliegences might be formable allowing movement- or it could be a "CampaignInstance setting" accessible in the world editor. I appreciate that it is more of use for custom campaigns than the FtD core campaigns.

I need to work out exactly what diplomacy the game will have. Before I do that I want to rework the strategic level decisions completely. This will take some considerable time and won't begin for probably another few months.

Have we embraced the M theory after all??

If you think that effect dosent exist, ask ww2 pilots how they have to adapt the movements of the stick because the gyroscopic force of the engine pulled the plane in other direction when they shoot nitro.

Now, its not and it will never be enough power to even rise its own weight, you will need to reach very fast speeds wich take the quality of the materials regarding vibration among other details to not clang.

After White Flayers you can point to a lot of ships above a few thousand blocks or so that fall into that category. I couldn't name any specific ones since I honestly stopped playing when I got that far in the campaign, but the later factions are particuarly guilty of making memeships that are good at everything and require your own memeships to beat them without any particular nuance aside from shoving as much crap in a big laggy mess as possible. But I think you already know about that.

Once I'm done with helium and the workshop, I'd like to work on modular AI, one that actually uses the targetfinding tools like radar, lasers, etc and has pluggable rules and procedures.

For instance, patrolling AI with a minimum altitude restrictor, a radar altimeter would drive your plane in a patrolling path while a seperate AI with a rangefinder, a radar, and an LWC hooked up to a missile turret would handle the shooty bits.

Ideally, each of these would be a Lua script that you can load into a block similar to WireMod's E2, with predefined scripts as well as custom ones. I still need to figure out the communications, but probably events sent through the AI connectors or wireless system with priorities and whatnot. Would be fun seeing the AI flip out while parts are damaged or destroyed.

Obviously, subject to change, delays, etc.

Block count bloat on the other hand...
How about CRAM fuse-like system where you cobble together your AI in a single block? Maybe with memory/whatever extender to allow more simultaneous options active.
>>
>>143913793
So the usual problems with scripting in any game? I don't see the problem.

>>143913910
Okay, I was hoping more complex AIs would lead to bigger machines, though. Maybe a limited number of scripts per block?

>americans really think that spinning disks or magnets simply make force out of nowhere and make shit fly using internal torques/forces/changes in momentum without touching anything
ok.
>>
>>143914028
Okay, now I'm losing it.
Are we talking about actually writing scripts for AI or just picking procedures and likes for it?

If latter is the case, just have AI core have small capacity for those "programs", needing memory/CPU/whatever extenders that don't add too much capacity.
Maybe additional module to fine-tune some procedures.
And I really like the need for sonar/radar.
So, with sonar, radar, AI core, extenders, tuners, connectors and transmitters/receivers it can get pretty complex, I think. At least this way we will be able to shape the AI system as we see fit.
>>
>>143912636
My big concern is that properly fine-tuning an array like that sounds like a lot of work, which would result in the copy/paste syndrome we have with engines and existing LUA scripts where people make a 1-size-fits-all design and use it everywhere with minor modifications.

>>
>>143914945
The idea is that you'd have like a CPU that runs the scripts. You'd select the script from a dropdown, which has premade scripts provided by the game, the workshop, and your own private stash.

My original idea was to have each CPU capable of only running one of these scripts, with the default AIs providing simple tasks like patrolling or following a target, with addon scripts (attached via adjacent CPU blocks) that add rules, inputs and outputs. Think of it like voxel wiremod: You can choose from stock components, or you can just write an E2 script that does everything for you if you're good with E2 or know where to get them. You're still going to need other peripheral blocks for stuff like radar, LWCs, comms, etc.

With the limits on script memory size, we can reduce the amount of "one-in-all" designs. I was hoping that bigger, more complex AIs would require more blocks, and the memory limits suggested would help with that.

I GUARANTEE you that once campaign leaderboards become a thing, the top spots are instantly going to be taken by people who scrap the starting stuff into a single supermeta design and sprint to the HQ. You'd put a plasma barrel in your vehicle, (I'm assuming it's a 3x3x3 block) that boosts your weapon power: Explosive damage gets a 10% boost in damage and radius, laser weapons do 10% more damage with the same power, etc. at the cost of the plasma barrel exploding like a nuke at the first hit.

Wow I never got far enough to know there was a flipflop symbol. I always want to restart playing this butthen I think of the level I'm on and how I'd have to design 4 complex reactors and it would take hours, so I end up not

Spengies used to be engineering when we were building drones robbits. And then Keen just kept breaking the game instead of making what worked work better and everyone gave up.

Gorillas have 80~ IQ.

That's actually higher than "humans" in Africa.

they should really consider putting better railings/nets around the edges of these enclosures, children seem to fall into them more often than they ought to

They should have shot the niglet instead.

If you fail the most apparent natural selection filter that is "DO NOT FALL INTO A BIG HOLE", you deserve to die.

I'd suggest starting with dying bleach and putting it in colorful cans

<samsim> I heard about this guy who broke into a lion's den at the zoo
<samsim> and got mauled
<samsim> and people were talking about how there should have been better defences put up to prevent people getting into the cage
<samsim> a friend of mine suggested setting up some kind of deterrent
<samsim> for example, putting some sort of fierce animal in the cage, which would attack anybody who climbed in

I think a large part of Neter's problems with broken ships stems from campaign points.
Currently, campaign points are arbitrarily assigned by whoever designed the ship, and are currently a very weak indicator of fleet strength.
Further, there's the issue how several vessels of low point value can merge together and form a several times stronger vessel - caused by above.

I'd suggest changing this, so that campaign points are instead calculated on the basis of a vessel's total RP cost (including materials in onboard storage).
This way, campaign points would be a nearly direct indicator of how many resources are invested into a given fleet, and by extension how much of a threat it poses.
Doing so would also get rid of the issue of low-value ships merging into a ship far beyond their combined value, as the total RP cost would remain constant - fleet would only transmute between setups of equivalent cost.

For a baseline, I'd suggest 1 campaign point = 50k RP. If it's necessary to keep as integers, I'd suggest rounding up.
What say you?

Some ships like onyx watch ships would have inflated RP costs compared to their difficulty since they use so much metal.
