Is there a decent guide on how to build an RS NOR latch in Factorio? I've tried two different methods, one with a blueprint, even. None of them work properly.

What I'm trying to do is build a gapper:

1. Steel passes over a logic belt, set to on initially. (entry gate)
2. Immediately, passes over counter belt ("load sensor")
3. 8 belts later, runs into another logic belt (exit gate)
4. Another 8 belts later is the reset counter belt.

The idea is that until the load sensor detects 8 steel on top of it, the entry gate is open and the exit gate is closed, piling up steel. Once there's a good slug of steel on the belt, the exit gate opens and the entry gate closes and allows the steel to exit. Once the slug is safely out of the device, it hits the reset sensor, which should reset the device.

What I've noticed is that the latches I use either don't work or oscillate wildly.

What do you nerds use? Most of the guides I see don't include how to set up the deciders.

You can always exit ship as drone with mining beams.
Apart from salvaging wrecks and blasting enemies there is no other way to acquire turrets.

On Aki's serb, however, there is a turret merchant, but you have to replace a file.

factorio is a sandbox puzzle game, there's no reason why there should be an endgame to it. being able to go into space and do the exact same thing some place else isn't an endgame, it's a senseless grind.
a proper endgame would be a physical test of your factory to see if you can ship finished products off-planet as a goal and be time/resource efficient about it.

If you lose or get rid of all of your turrets, you are automatically resupplied with a set of basic turrets, 2 chain guns, 2 laser guns, 2 mining lasers. Bottom of the barrel starter trash, but you get all of them.

And as others said, you can always deconstruct your ship or just leave your ship and take the mining drone out for a spin, I think the default key for that is T.

Basically done. I added two dimensional butterfly shields to all sides (that means that there are 4 different shields all at 45 degree angles close to the same spot. bounces everything, bulwark never touches it.).

Do you like the look?

Need to add smoke, flares, and resources. Maybe some torpedoes for when my railgun wings a sub and it dives and gets stuck really really deep.

I did some digging.

Back in 2013-ish, Intel owned Havok and offered up a free binary-only release of it called PCXS. I remember downloading it, and found a copy on my external HDD dating from 2014.

Here's the kicker:

Microsoft killed the program recently, so that's probably why shit is broken.

I can't verify that they're using a PCXS build, but that's my suspicion based on the build date of Havok and the existence of a time limit.

As for kinetic damage, shell design is all trial and error, but for my 8x0.5m railgun I've found 6 modules of gunpowder and 4 of railgun casings optimal, with the rest being solid and hollow point.
It's not as powerful or efficient a railgun as it could be: draw is 89410 at 10% accuracy boost (total draw 99344) and kinetic damage is 61694.

The gist of it is that the game is a seriously unfinished buggy mess, the developers switched the game into early access mode two days before release citing "problems due to recent updates to unity plugins". Should have been a huge red flag i guess.
Check the discussions on steam for more.

Mine aren't railguns.

More rails increases maximum charge, but you might be having issues with spending too much and dipping below your permitted charge. Increasing max charge and holding charge usage constant results in a "buffer" of charge that fills back up during lulls.

You can adjust the railgun settings by entering the APS's Q menue and hitting the railgun settings button in the bottom right corner. If you haven't dicked with the overclock setting, increasing it is an easy to get better performance at the cost of using way more energy.

1. installed the missing steam engines

6. almost ready to tech up to automated railway transportation

in new hope 1, i actually built assembling machine pathways to autocraft science packs 1 and 2, but that map already had working iron, copper and coal production. in this map i just flat out skipped building pathways becuase it seemed super autistic to do. it seems like manually crafting low tier stuff is much better than using assembling machines. idk if im doing shit unoptimally.

Well there's nothing stopping a sub from doing all three in return, except it's usually not even necessary because most ships don't have shields on their bottoms. Sub v Ship, the sub will always have an absurd advantage. I think sub v plane, the plane will usually have the advantage, but because you have all the space in the world as a sub, you can build to be extremely efficient and durable as I have and just wait for your enemy to run out of fuel. 334 pff bluelines are no joke when your enemies are all running 100% fuel injector engines that burn through 500 fuel per second.

We have been ignoring PAC's though, which are also absurdly strong right now. Pretty much takes every bit of defense out of the equation.

I'm level 270 and using the fuck out of those skill points. Suddenly coming toe to toe with a ship five times your size doesn't really faze you when you can just dump everything into Armor Smiths and take 6% damage. And since the Mining skill increases the amount of resources you get instead of how fast you get them, I had 41k of each resource to build my boat instead of just 10k.
I have no goddamn clue how you'd survive with just 10k of each resource, I can barely make a functional boat that carries reasonable amounts of resources with that much, let alone one that can fight worth shit.

As it turns out, the OW campaign is AMAZING for gathering experience. I can max out all settings other than the damage factor and get 5.66x experience. Add in my 2.77x experience from leaderboard position and I'm getting half a dozen levels PER FIGHT. Anyways:

Sabot head, 2x sabot body, 4x solid body and then a base bleeder.

A combination of powder/rails that give you the max Kdamage, and a total of 12 ammo customizers.

I find the best results happen from tuning your railgun charge to have just under .5 second rate of fire.

Avorion just has the benefit of being Voxel Freelancer until the population gets big enough for it to slide towards Voxel EVE.

What people need to forget about is doing that sort of thing with physics simulations involved for the ship's systems. The spengies model will never work, starmade's execution was just flawed and shit. Not him but I grew up using toasters, and I own a toaster now. Getting 20 FPS is 100% fine with me and I never understood the 30fps or 60fps debate because I never went to 30. In online games, fps's and such, it gives you a sixth sense when coupled with lag due to geographic distace.

Haha, I wish.

The actual problem with colonizing space is that it's not profitable. The expense of lifting colonists and infrastructure out of Earth's gravity well is insane, and there's not much return. The new technologies developed to live on Mars might improve the standard of living everywhere, further down the line, but that won't pay for the rockets.

Seattle, WA bro here. I came across someone who told me they were developing a game in Unity.

The guy was unkempt, his breath smelled bad, and he was pretty unprofessional. He displayed characteristics similar to an individual with autism. Even by my standards, me a guy that is socially inept in most situations.

Coupled with the fact that C# is not exactly hard to pick up so a lot people go to these coding bootcamps to learn it along with CSS and Python.

If I see a game created in Unity, I just don't buy it. Heck, I played Kerbal for over three years and I still get the game by illegitimate means.

There is no mineral worth going to space for. All the elements you can expect to find out there are already present on Earth, and since Earth is a habitable planet you need less infrastructure to exploit them, and since you're already on Earth you don't need to lift that infrastructure out of a gravity well.

If you find some valuable industrial resource on Pluto or whatever that simply doesn't exist on Earth, this will of course all change, but what we currently know about chemistry and star formation suggests that this isn't going to be the case.

Sure, but that's a pretty big "if". The elements that are rare on Earth are likely to be rare in the rest of the solar system.
If we did find something out there worth bringing back home, that'd also make other kinds of space industry more tempting, since that first asteroid mine is going to need materials, and shipping them from Earth will be ludicrously expensive.
