Haven't played Stellaris yet, but I'm wondering about factions; I understand you can't indirectly support foreign factions before they revolt and become a proper player on the map? Such a shame. Would totally want to go full CIA mode on my neighbors like south America, having spies find a list of notable factions, choose the one that would destabilize the empire the most, heavily fund and arm them with covert smuggling, invest in a faction leader and give him a "charismatic" and "blackmailed/puppet" trait to better push things. Then after the revolutionists start a war, fund the loyalists as well and enjoy a private Syria war as an empire is brought to its knees and torn to shreds via nothing but spies, funding, and plausible deniability.

The problem I have with the base game and your mod is that I don't want abstract shit. I want species-related things. Lions for lion people. Foxes/Wolves for the Fox/Dog people. Bugs for bug people. etc.

Unless you play on some weird settings all your minerals should go towards mining stations, colony ship and few corvettes early game. Mining network on home planet is also alright. Once your colony ship is on the way you can also pick up some energy to support it. If you have exceptional science deposits consider picking those up too but otherwise just ignore science stations.

I tried an easy map with automatons, got like half the galaxy colonized (medium size, boxed AIs in their starting zone while I colonized the shared middle), then tried to take out one AI and the other two quickly declared war on me and destroyed all my best fleets like nothing, even trying to build ships tailored to theirs didn't work.
Where could I have fucked up? Too few military researches? Should I have kept a defensive style with automatons since they have fleet disadvantage? I went from being first in score to getting fucked to bits basically in the space of 20 turns

Endless Space combat is basically long range kinetics on small ships with fleet-wide bonuses chewing through everyone else like so much wet paper. Long-range weapons in general are the best because they let you destroy people in the first phase of combat, and kinetics fire on every round of a phase, unlike beams that fire on 2 and 4 or missiles that salvo on round 1 and do nothing until the next phase.

The fleet-wide bonuses just make every ship stronger than they should be.

Late-game you can mix in 3 larger ships with only fleet bonuses and defenses that stay in front and prevent the enemy focusing down your smaller ships because of the combat options.

There is a hero trait that gives +100 to damage per weapon's salvo. The hero that has it is adventurer I think.
to put this in perspective, short range kinetic does 1 damage per salvo. You literally can not wage wars without that trait.

Military researches are not extremely important. Putting all three defense modules, about 3-4 of each on every ship is crucial.

I always go with all short range kinetics, just to be efficient.

That's why you build nothing but mining stations on homeworld after building your first colony ship. Take the society research edict to pump out colony ship faster, you don't need influence in the first ten years anyway.
You can (should) replace all the buildings on starting planets with research labs eventually anyway.
20-30 minerals should be fine for early game, so after that make nothing but farms till you have about 20 pops. Then more mining. Get rid of majority surplus food so you don't outgrow science development.

After 15 years you should have 4 or more planets depending on borders of enemy empires. You only need 200 mil power fleet to kill pirates and crystals.

I'm playing Civ V GOTY edition. I had an unhappiness problem.

I was at 15 unhappiness because my dumbass citizens decided FREEDOM wasn't a good idealogy. I saw that I had 40 unhappiness from specialists. So I took out a bunch to reduce it to 28 but my unhappiness stayed at 15. I tried moving a turn forward to help it recalculate and no change.

Than I built the eiffel tower which gives 5 happiness. Instead my unhappinesss only dropped to 14.

What the fuck is happening and how does this shit mechanic work?

Autocannons exist and are pretty good if you get in range with them, but especially at end game the most important thing is range: ships don't close all that fast and engage at range 60. Early to mid or any time FTL traps kick in that'd be fine, though.

So I hadn't actually done the math, but the difference between lasers and kinetics is pretty fucking nothing. At tier 1, basic kinetics do about 10% more damage than lasers while lasers ignore 50% armor. At tier 5, though, kinetics do 2% more damage while having 5 more range and slightly worse accuracy. So you can have a battleship 'A", "B","C". Just not rename them. Then you can upgrade ships by upgrade fleet button and they upgrade to their respective models(say you make new "A" and "C" and upgrade fleet then old "A" and "C" designs are upgraded to new but 'B" are not touched.

With the change to tech speed, I think having pops to fill science labs faster is going to be the better bet, especially early game. I haven't really considered the math on that though.

The only thing I dislike about sectors is that the UI sucks for making build orders to starports unless they are on core planets. I wish there was some sort of system that would allow you to just give a specific sector a build order for ships and the sector would automatically see to it that they're built.

Also, managing all the planets would be a pain in the ass. These sectors hardly make the game more casual. They add depth by enabling the civil war mechanics which I'm certain they will improve on a lot to make the late game more interesting.

Sectors should have a political system where you'd have to deal different sectors demands to keep them happy and maybe even enable the sectors to have a sort of rivalry between each other.

Sectors could also be enabled to have a small force of military or militia of their own and you'd have to be wary of your sectors growing too strong if they aren't loyal.

Guys do your custom empires get their right starting locations or did I break my game with 15 mods?
I just started a new game in 1000 star map, used console to get communications with other nations and only thing correct about their starting system was name and type of their home planet. Also sure human system was called Sol but there was no star called that in there.

Mix to some extent. I'll only build energy plants on energy tiles and research labs on research tiles. However frequently minerals and food I'll ignore and put labs or power plants depending on what I need more of. Food I'll only replace once the planets full and I don't need the extra food.

For empty tiles I'll usually load them up with research labs or save them for extra buildings like Monument to Purity or the special ethics buildings.

What do I do? I can surrender (their goal is just to humilliate my vassal), but they kill my ruler if I do that.

Take your armada and single out individual FE fleets and destroy them one by one. Get a leader with the autorepair if you can, and build up heavy hitters in any planets you have where the FE ships aren't hitting you, and merge them into the main fleet to reinforce it.

Every FE ship you destroy is one permanently gone, they can't build more ships. Force a white peace if possible; if you kill all of their fleets you can easily eat them later.

Try to kill their troop transports if you can, FE Gene Warriors are expensive as fuck to replace and will devastate any planets they can land on.

Well, if we ignore food and such, let's do some calculations.

two size 25 planets (so 24 pops working, we're excluding the planetary admin), each focusing on energy and minerals equally, vs two size 25 planets, one focusing on energy, one on minerals.

First two planets each have 11 IV mines, 11 IV power planets, 1 II mineral processor, and 1 II power hub.
Second two planets have, respectively, 23 IV mines, 1 II mineral processor, and 23 IV power plants, 1 II power hub.

(we're assuming no terrain bonuses)
Of the first two planets, each will be producing:
((11*6) + 6) *1.15 power each = 82.8
((11*5) + 3) *1.15 minerals each = 66.7

For a total 165.6 power and 133.4 minerals between the two of them.

Of the second two planets, the first will be producing:
((23 *6) + 6) *1.15 power = 165.6

And the second will be producing:
((23 *5) +3) *1.15 minerals = 135.7

As we can see, there is literally no difference between the two except in the case of minerals, where there is a SLIGHT increase.

TL;DR: Don't worry about having energy or mineral focused worlds unless they have a lot of terrain bonuses. Build what you need, and always make sure to build power hubs and mineral processors.

You can just land troops and invade, you own the planet if you win. They can't fight very well either, though industeral age can fight some.

They do get a huge penalty to research and energy production for a while because they don't know how to work space stuff.

What's tedious about GalCiv?
I know I kinda loathe the ship builder in GalCiv2, it just overwhelms you with the options for looks, and I feel like I can never be satisfied with what I build, either from an efficiency or aesthetics pov. GalCiv3 seems more of the same.
Meanwhile I feel like the Stellaris ship design tool has just enough depth to satisfy me.

If you ignored lasers and meet enemies with superhigh armor (hint:the AI never builds this kind of ships) AND you somehow looted enough crystals that you got the tech for free, you can use them as extra shitty placeholder for lasers.

- vs high shields, use disruptors if you got them, if not the case can be made for either kinetics with higher range and damage, lasers with high accuracy or autocannons with decent accuracy and high damage but low range
- vs high armor, plasma or energy lances are perfect, lasers are good

Iirc total fleet power caps at 10k at 1 planet and 50k at 8, so it's between 1-4 reinforcement fleets. It also only fires below that threshold, obviously.

I also question any trade where you give up energy creds. I found that while I can get +300-400 minerals/month mid game, I can rarely get over +50-60 energy/month, with ALL my fleets parked in crew quarter+engineering bay starbases. When fleets move I generally go into negative energy.
Meanwhile minerals are plentifull and you can always trick the AI, getting for example 500 minerals instantly for 300 minerals over 10 years. Or even better get 400-500 or more minerals from faraway empires, as trade for civilian border access that they won't be able to use.

I decide to fight FE and bring like 50k Fleet with 20k vassals but they have like two fleets only(9k and 6k).
I was really surprised by their weakness but then I remembered that they fight before like 4 times against one of the biggest empire and that probably weak them enough.
They only have three planets but if you say its true they should have more.
Unless the reinforce process is bugged.

Indeed, one of the patches might have changed the files. I distinctly recall them reinforcing up to 50k with 8 planets or more, but 1.1 doesn't have that part.
They still reinforce, but only if they're below 5k and at peace, and they get a single fleet. Composition seems the same so it should still be 15k in power.

Found out I had a backup with 1.0.3 files.
It's not in the changelog, but they indeed changed how much they can reinforce. 1.0.3 has the mechanics I remembered that are no longer valid.
Also it was 40k at 8 planets, not 50k.
