Rolling is easy and just superior to blocking, with very generous i frames, and you're forced to parry n shit

You can get first two before you leave the High wall.
Get longbow (there's one lying around somewhere so you don't even need to buy it) and 99 arrows (5souls each, you only need around 60 but buy more just to be sure). Go where the fire breathing dragon is. Climb stairs to him, there's a wooden plank platform where you can stand without getting roasted. Then you fire at the tip of his left wing for 38 damage for 5 minutes. Once the dragon get bored of the acupuncture he'll fly away an you get 1 large shard.
Other one you get from crow for normal firebomb. You can use tree jump so you don't have to farm 20K for key.

Sans Ludex/Vordt I'm not having fun with the bosses in this game, Greatwood, Crystal Sage, and the first half of Abyssal Watchers have so much shit going on its a pain in the ass to keep up with. In each of those 3 fights I've rolled away from the main bosses attacks only to get hit during roll recovery from some shit offscreen. I wouldn't find it so bad if at 20 vit that I lose 60% of my bar per hit.

I imagine I would have better luck if I moved away from my whip because of its shitslow attack speed, but I enjoy it's moveset too much and how it destroys NPCs. But then again maybe I'm just not gud enough.

Do parries need to be activated at the moment the enemy activates their attack or does it need to be started early so that the animation connects with the enemy's attack mid-swing?

You can get Covetus Ring, which increases souls gain by 10%, plus you come across a birds nest, a lizard, and maybe some other stuff.

Depends really on where you are in the game, but I don't regret using 20k souls for it. If you're still at the start then you should save the souls and level up instead.

My biggest issue with most boss fights so far has been that the FoV is goddamn claustrophobic. When I'm close enough to hit a boss their ass texture fills the entire screen and I can't see incoming attacks from limbs/adds that are off-camera. Makes fighting ganks a pain in the ass too and applies a layer of nausea and headache over the whole experience

Did you fight him in the swamp water or around that hill leading down to it? I just fought him on the hill and backstepped out of his range and whaled on him after his last attack. He didn't seem to have infinite poise to me. Just a bullshit amount of health and estus.

Bloodborne is my least favourite of the series. Specifically I didn't like the level design where you just ran from lamp A to lamb B and killed enemies standing around between them. It felt very videogamey and didn't make me believe it was a real location. For similar reasons I didn't like it graphically - it was very pretty, but it reused the same assets (that fucking coffin wrapped in chains for example) constantly and made every room feel very samey. Everywhere in central yarnham felt like the same corridor to me.

I liked DaS1 and DeS best because the difficulty came from being really unfair, and levels often threw stuff other than enemies at you. Like those fucking spear mantas. Or anything in sen's fortress or blightown. I also loved the bonfire placement - again, really unfair (that fucking bonfire at the end of sen's fortress, or having to beat bosses to get ANY bonfires in DeS). It all made the locations feel real, like reality wouldn't conform to being fair and balanced like in a videogame.

I don't know if you need to but that's what I did and what everyone I was summoned for did. Have a summon, it makes it easier as the fight becomes a case of you two dividing up to find the real sage.

Greatwood at the first stage is shitty in that regard. Second stage is good. Abyssals actually fight eachother if you pull back somewhat. So it pays to be strategic and cautious, it's not a race to the finish

Now that I think about it except for the black depths at the end of the world in DS2 Farron's swamp is the worst poison zone of dark souls.

The bottom of the well before the black depths with the poison statues in DS2 was a little challenging in navigation and fighting.
Quelaag's place has the latticework of woods. Farron's swam pis basically remove that and just have the very bottom of Quelaag's place.

Unless you have a good bow or projectiles I'd think it would take forever. I saw a video of someone going pro and dodge-rolling while swiping at the giant whenever their arm lay on the 'cliffside'. The annoying thing is there are two gates you can raise. For no fucking reason - you cannot bait the giants into attacking you on the bottom of the pool. If you do (by wading into the sludge then running when they proc) they just swipe up sludge and throw it at you then go back to where they stood.

It's even more irritating because their purpose is so obvious I have to think it is bugged - you clearly are supposed to bait the giant(s) into following you, pull up the gate, dodge them on the way out and use one of the man sized holes in the gate. Then you block them. But their AI must be fucked because they refuse to move beyond just going "REEEE GET OUT OF MY OGRE SHITS DONKEY" if you stand in the muck.
