Since I'm thinking about those three classes, I can agree with you.
Chaplain is the safest path for me (decent solo and pretty easy to find/get in a party), but Cataphract3/Dragoon can be really fun with his two-handed spear, nice costume and trot. Musk probably even more, except for the most hardest/boring leveling between these options.

Funny you say that because there are fighting games that allow for different move choices at the start. Even sf had it similar with groove select.

The philosophy of being permanently locked to your first choice you make in the game is just very intimidating. I don't want to make a new character and grind the theme park again sometime down the line but stay with my one character throughout my lifetime with the mmo.

I took Serpentine over Dragon Soar for the piercing damage. Gae Bulg was not so great I heard, so I left it at 1. Double Pay Earn was a toss up. I'm not really sure if the other 2 Doppel skills do any decent damage so I just went for the buff.

I don't mind having to commit but ToS's class system doesn't really promote class pride because of how everyone will have multiple classes at once.

There's a real danger of them nerfing a class too hard and that class and everyone who chose to invest heavily in it becoming useless. It would be less of a problem if the classes had more skills so you'd more likely have an option to respec your points inside the class to the skills that weren't nerfed and still be useful but this isn't the case.

I also somewhat have a problem having to remake a character because a class I used got nerfed but that has more to do with the fact how boring the journey of leveling is in the game. If there wasn't a set track of questing I have to do to level up then I might even be excited to make a new character.

I agree with everything you said, and lot's of people including myself have just come to accept the game isn't finished, even after 7 years of development they got sort of rushed to release because they were too slow. There's a massive imbalance problem and even with weekly patches they're introducing new problems with every rank they add, and then with every new content they keep making shit unviable to clear said content and you end up with a subpar character that isn't desired for the high end dungeons and what not.

We can't really do anything about it, we can only hope the game survives long enough to see rank 10, and then proceed to balance everything accordingly, including the leveling process and the myriad of possible builds that can be achieved with their system.

I think their biggest flaw will be balancing for pvp instead of pve, if they start gimping classes because they're OP in the fucking minigame arena or gvg, no one will be happy, you need to have separate effects, or simply ignore the pvp aspect and let it be unbalanced forever to avoid fucking your entire game.

The good thing is you have a wide selection of classes, so even if your rank 3 and 4 got nerfed, your 5+ ranks should be solid. They said they want you to stay viable as long as your highest rank is dedicated to the role you want to perform, as picking a damage class@r8 should help you be a good damage dealer all around, if you pick a support your spells should be strong enough to fight in the r8 content and desired by groups.

There won't be 1 build to rule them all, and yet people want that, I'm sure the community is going to shill certain classes and claim the rest is crap but it will be mostly exaggeration and ignorance from not having experienced neither the content or the classes themselves.

I still don't know what the hell I do on release. Can someone help me... with youtube videos? Most of them have the archive filename on title, so its fucking shit to search specific classes. I already done a research using korean class names, so I'm looking for those "TOS 2016 03 21 XXX" videos. I have interest in Dragoon, Fencer, Musketeer and Warlock on grind.

Also, why does anyone talks about Cannoneer? Are they shit? Saw on archives that they're gimped Musketeers, just want a second opinion or videos. I don't care THAT much for min-max on PVE and/or PVP, just something that doesn't suck on parties and can do a decent/proper solo.

You can do a youtube search with that and arrange it based on the upload date and start looking through the videos. Keep an eye out for the channel names so you can filter sort of keep track who posts what class.

Levels extend the duration of the debuff (though very slightly), so it's not completely a waste.

With Gae Bulg level 1 for example it's kinda hard to even make any use of the debuff yourself as by the time you moved and picked your spear back up the debuff was almost gone.

Afaik they haven't done this, but yeah they should allow you to at least reset skills if they overhaul a certain class, at least that's what they make on other games. I think they will be very greedy about skill resets since they want you to buy the scrolls from the cash shop, but at the same time they don't want the community hating them for being assholes.

I guess there will be some degree of compensation for their mistakes during the process of balancing the game, but the only advice I can give is to avoid the fotms, if they sound too good they're probably going to get gutted in a few months or so (or maybe not, like wiz3 being the same since forever).

Pass is pretty ridiculous, cutting off 25s from every CD in your group is huge. You can almost look at it as basically doubling the raid damage any CD that's under a minute will contribute. Look at memetalist CDs, Electrocute is 33s, Hail is 45s, Frost Cloud is 30s, Theurge is 33s, a single use of Pass basically means those will all instantly be ready again.
Quicken is pretty awesome as well, so is Haste. Reincarnate has its uses, Stop and Slow are niche as fuck and not worth the points, Backmasking is neat but Dimensional Pieces are way too expensive to use it much.

I did the same build in kToS >>135945965, it's way better in boosting party damage and dungeon runs than Cryo3, which is for ET.

I'd advise lowering Reincarnate and Backmasking to 1, they don't get much with higher levels.
Just move the points to Slow or Stop, your choice, even Stop 1 is good utility.

I strongly advice against it if it's your first character, you need to farm to make money, there are no pardoner buffs available, and you won't have any decent equipment for a long time.

I'd suggest to go pyro2>linker>chrono 3 at least, the difference from linker 1 to linker 2 isn't that great once you geat a joint pentalty gem.

3 weeks or so after release there will be pardoner shops everywhere that will help you level much more easily shit builds with no damage. Unless you have someone who is dead over heels for you and is willing to carry you push for the pyro 2 thing, if you have a reliable team or social skills then go for cryo 3, a lot of the classes already provide damage but the CC from cryo 3 is invaluable and chonor 3 just makes it better.

Yes, as good as Linker is, even maxed JP with 11 targets (only 8 with Chrono3) isn't much in ET, there's just too many mobs.
Frost Pillar is one of the best CC skills in ET, since it doesn't care how many targets there are.

Cryo3 is a lot better in GvG too, until the enemy PD shows up and your CC is useless.
Then again, there's not a lot of CC skills that bypass Bloodletting, until they nerf it/rework the system.

1. The real trinity is tank, heal, cc, not dps. Thats a casual WoW thing

2. As far as the meaning of your question, in a way, but not really.

Basically, making a full tank build is useless. Many times its advisable for a swordsman build to take a rank of peltasta for the aoe taunt though, for the purpose of grouping mobs togeather to aoe down for the team. This ability is considered desirable, and having this ability in your swordsman build will make you more popular.

Likewise, all cleric builds will have at least cleric1, and many fit in cleric2, which is considered the optimal healing point. having 'clerics' is required*, but having dedicated healers is, like a dedicated tank, something that will just slow the party down.

*you could probably do with out in some cases but its a hassle


so to summarize. Everyone should be a dps, aoe taunting and decent healing ability in swordie/cleric dps builds, is a popular thing because having these things in your group is nice/required. Pure support tends to fall around a different axis such as the popular cryo3-chrono3 wizard build, that gives you great cc and amazing buffs, and not around 'healer' or 'tank'.

I think the tanking comes shit like safety zone, barrier, sterea tofh, stone skin, counter spell and such. Having buttloads of con isn't really the way to go when you still go down in 8 hits instead of 3, while full inmunity abilities negate a shitload of damage or prevent it.

The "tanks" are more like pullers, concentrating mobs in one place and running with them behind, unless they give "tanks" a way to mitigate damage by a huge % including magical shit they're not really meant to stand still and just take hits.

Everything in ET is just whatever your highest party memeber's level is, so usually 280. The problem is that the trash in it is very aggressive and can one shot even full on tank builds over range, you either manage to kill them before you run out of safety zone/etc and they kill you, which you won't after the first couple floors, or you have to CC them. That's why Cryo3 is so popular in there, your Ice Tree has no target limitations unlike most other CC and after putting it down you can just spam all your other Cryo skills on the stack to freeze enemies, rendering them unable to attack.

i've never had the opportunity to use iron hook but i'm hopeful for its applications so can anyone answer a few questions about the detailed mechanics behind it?

2. if i use keelhaul, will the target be able to act again?
3. if i keelhaul the target right to me, will iron hook disappear automatically?
4. can i keelhaul a target through a wall?

It's straight up impossible to tank any meaningful damage endgame. Magic will still absolutely destroy you in a matter of seconds and it's everywhere. The best defense is to just not take damage in the first place, be it through CC or enough DPS to kill things before they can even respond.

Squire is nearly pointless. Armor maintenance gives flat defense (effectively flat damage reduction of 15 per piece. Wheee, you reduced the damage you took by 60, that'll show those 1k crits who's boss!). Weapon Maintenance is less terrible but even so, it maxes out at 120 attack on an 8 star weapon. Refreshment Table is actually sort of good, but it's not worth the suffering, even moreso if you want to go Pelt C3 for whatever reason.

I would suggest not taking more than 1-2 circles of Peltasta and picking some other classes that are actually enjoyable.

Armor Maintenance is shit, you can only apply it to 3(?) pieces of equipment for 15 flat def each.
Likewise you're maxing Pelt skills that raise flat values, like Guardian and High Guard.
That extra def and block are pitiful compared to the drawbacks and the skill points used.

I wouldn't recommend Pelt3 at all, if you're dead set on suffering to Squire3, you NEED offensive classes.
'Pure tanks" are worthless in this game.
Pelt1 is still a good idea just for swashbuckling, but get Hop2 or some other attack class instead.

Max Swash, Finestra, Hexen, Iron Hook (if you're really focused on PvP), Kunai.
Make sure to get Spear Lunge 1, and the stealth skills/attributes on Shinobi.

With lvl10 Finestra you won't need a lot of DEX, aim for ~230 crit rate by 200+, green gems included.

Diev will be suffering a bit until you get C2 for the Owls, but it's far from the worst.

I say drop Druid1, it doesn't offer much with just 1 circle, you can take Krivis at rank2, then Cleric2 at rank6 instead for easier leveling.
Or Oracle, if you're into PvP/GvG/slutting it up with the costume.

I don't think they'll nerf Wizard. Taking extra circles in the 4 basic jobs should be very rewarding, since you're giving away some of the best circles in each of the classes. Priest, Krivis, Peltasta, Highlander, Hoplite, Hunter, Ranger, Quarrelshooter, Pyro, Cryo, Kino, etc.

The kind of people you mention probably won't get to rank 7 anyways, regardless of explosions and damage they'll probably get stuck because they wasted their leveling cards or fucked their build and don't want to buy resets.

Surprisingly there's a buttload of people that want to be 0 damage full support characters, even if they have no idea what this game is like. Mostly because they come from other games where you are expected to specc like that to be the bitch healer character, or you're a subpar scrub that couldn't stomach the suffering of a no damage class.

It's that stubborn people the one that will stomach the grind no matter what, and usually become drama whores crying no one helps them, eventually getting someone to help them and spreading the idea full support characters are needed and if you help them now they'll help you later.

Most cleric classes still have some sort of damage tied to their support branches, or maybe it's the other way around, but to be a wet noodle faggot you'd really need to try to specc with no damage. While chrono has literally 0 damaging skills, it's more akin to the full support meme from other games, and it's even in high demand like a FS char is usually expected to be like.
