The Assault Rifle is way more powerful. The split damage basically makes that 21 energy damage worthless (i.e. the same reason the top tier power fist and shishkebab are shit).

The Assault Rifle gives you armor pen which is always worth it.

Although if the combat rifle's shots look really cool I'd go with the combat rifle

I have this 10mm pistol that was one of the first Legendaries I found, I've nicknamed it Dickpunch. It's the Kneecapper that has a chance to just cripple legs, I love it. Every with crippled legs look like their ball just got busted. Mirelurks and deathclaws left helplessly stumbling or crawling after a few quick shots with it, then leisurely killing them with whatever has the most ammo while Curie uses a shock baton or sledge. Priceless

Was my attempt at an old, "tough as nails" detective.
Plan is to only use Laser or Plasma weapons only. Preferably pistol or shotgun variations.

2. Secures grip in the arms with her hands

When the hype has faded, here is my opinion about Fallout 4:

I feel like FO4 wasn't that much of an improvement over Skyrim or Fallout: New Vegas though.
Let's not talk about technical stuff (outdated engine), and just focus on the game. It lacks soul, or anything that can differentiate it from other games. Most of the time I feel like I'm playing Metro Last Lights: Boston Edition (And Metro Last Lights looks and performs way better).
The side quests are a downgrade from Skyrim. They are uninspired and boring (and tedious).
Settlement building was fun at first, until I realized that no matter how strong you build your settlement, your settlers will die if you don't come help them (Like how the hell can I lose 10 settlers to a bunch of ghouls if my settlement has a wall and 50+ turrets ?).
I also think the game lacks RPG elements. NPCs are very forgettable, and they don't seem to have a lot of dialogues. The dialogues are boring, and feature a chance-base answer system rather than perk-check.
The world doesn't feel like a world anymore. It looks pretty, but that's it. There are not many interesting locations, and all raiders, mutants, creatures are just there so you have something to shoot at. I can't explain it, but FNV did a way better job of creating a believable post-apocalyptic world.
Even perks are not that interesting anymore (Did they remove some perks? Because I swear most of these perks are stat-based).
AI is better, I give them that, but, in turn, followers have less personality.
Overally, i feel like FO4 tries to be everything (follower affection like DA, conversation wheel like ME, gunplay with perk like any FPS right now) and, in the end, loses its focus on its core quality (the story telling, quests, characters). I really hope Obsidian will do one more Fallout game. Those guy knows how to make quality RPGs.

Skyrim was way shallower than Oblivion, but it has a soul and a vivid living world to back that up. Fallout 4 doesn't.
