Now, this applies more to jump maps because no worthwhile TF2 map is going to have a long, perfectly-straight section like this; there's little ramps and inclines and ledges to bounce around on. 20 second respawn is important so that the objectives are actually possible. With instant respawns the entire balance of the map is thrown to bits. 2fort in particular melts down as every path to the intel goes past one of two spawns. Enemy teleporters in the sewers are an unstoppable killing machine that fills your base with enemy troops. Spies with the Dead Ringer can tap the intelligence all the way from the basement to the bridge allowing an unstoppable torrent of scouts to carry it in for a win. Snipers out of bullets, anybody in the water, and anybody being charged by a katana wielding demoknight just press their kill bind instead of trying to fight or get back into position.

Instant respawn is a 4-year-old's idea of balance.
